Chanakira (early Rhodesia Entreprbeneur)

Chanakira was an entrepreneur and farmer in the Seke area (south of Salisbury, (now called Harare) in Rhodesia roughly between 1910 and 1920. Chanakira plied a successful haulage business ferrying grain produced by African farmers for sale to Salisbury using a donkey carts. [1]

He has been recognised by some historians as the forerunner of business people in his family. Other members of the Chanakira family who also became entrepreneurs include Telephone Chanakira, Lionel Chanakira, and Kupara Chanakira who were well known business people in Rhodesia in 1940s and 1950s. [1]
