Dunduzu Chisiza was a Malawian who contributed towards the nationalistic cause in Zimbabwe. Chisiza worked with the likes of James Chikerema in the fight against colonialism.


Background

Chisiza was born in Nyasaland (now Malawi). Dunduza played for a short time a leading role in the development of African nationalism in Southern Rhodesia during the 1950s.


Education

He was educated at the Livingstonia Mission and Aggrey Memorial College, Uganda.


Career

He worked during 1949 as a clerk in the Police Records Department in Dar-es-Salaam. He moved to Salisbury in 1953 and worked for the Indian High Commissioner.


Political Career

Chisiza was one of the founders, in 1955, of the ANYL. He was a close associate of James Chikerema and George Nyandoro. In September 1956 he was deported from Southern Rhodesia to Nyasaland where he soon became prominent in the Nyasaland African Congress.
