Gwanda Bus Disaster
The Gwanda Bus accident, 15 November 2018, happened in Gwanda district,near West Nicholson area on the 56 KM peg from Gwanda . The accident claimed more than 40 people and injured at least 20 people ,[1] when a Brooklyn Express bus was reduced to ashes after catching fire .[2]
Causes
Police spokeswoman Charity Charamba said she did not have details about the cause of the accident.
It was suspected that a gas tank belonging to one of the passengers exploded on the bus which was bound for South Africa.[3]
Death toll
The ZRP confirmed that at least 42 passengers were confirmed dead in the accident.[3]
Injuries
27 people sustained injuries- with five being referred to Bulawayo after sustaining severe burns.[2]
