Ishmael Kadungure was a Zimbabwean radio personality. He was a radio announcer for the Rhodesia Broadcasting Corporation and the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation.
Background
Kadungure was born in Chivhu on July 1, 1944, and was the fifth born in a family of 10. He was the brother of politician Ernest Kadungure. Kadungure was married and had five children and several grand children. [1]
Education
He did his primary education at St Thomas and St Augustine’s Mission before proceeding to Bernard Mzeki College for his secondary education.[2]
Career
He joined the then Rhodesia Broadcasting Corporation in the late 1960s as a radio announcer. Kadungure was appointed head of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio Three now Power FM at its inception in 1981.
He left ZBC to join the now defunct Joy TV after which he ventured into farming when the television channel ceased operations.[3]
Whilst as an announcer for the African Service at Harare Studios, Kadungure presented the programmes Nyore Nyore Show which was the third most popular musical show after Lever Brothers Hit Parade and The Ruredzo Show
Death
Kadungure died on 7 October 2014. According to a family spokesperson who spoke to The Herald Kadungure was not feeling well and had suffered a stroke. He was buried at Kadungure Village in Chivhu.[4]
