Mick Pearce is an award winning Zimbabwean born architect known mostly for his have designed one of Zimbabwe's most iconic buildings, Eastgate Centre. He won the Environment 2000, Award of Excellence, in 1999, for the Eastgate design. Pearce has also done a lot of work in Zambia, England, Australia and Belgium. He has been referred to as "among the most ingenious critical tropicalist architects practising today"[1]
Eastgate
Pearce designed and supervised the Eastgate Centre building with the assistance of Arup engineers. He modeled the building on a termite mound which are common in Zimbabwe. The building is ventilated, cooled and heated mostly through natural means only using 10% of what other similarly sized buildings would use on temperature control. This effectively lowers the cost of temperature control for the building.
Other Designs in Zimbabwe
In the early 1980s, Mick Pearce produced a series of buildings: five major commercial office blocks, university buildings, a major hospital, a Hindu temple and an international school.
- Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital (1990-1995), Chinhoyi. In charge of inception, briefing and design for this new hospital including site planning, housing and the Training School.
- Land Management Building, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zimbabwe (1986). Project Architect for all stages of work on a mixed-use campus building: including laboratories, lecture halls and offices.

- Awarded the 2003 Prince Claus Award for Culture and Development. This award covers participants in Africa, South and Central America, and Asia
