Pentecostal
Pentecostal Christianity is a form of Christianity that emphasises direct personal experience of God through the Holy Spirit. Globally, it is considered part of Protestant Christianity. In Zimbabwe, Pentecostalism increased from the late 80s when leaders such as Ezekiel Guti broke away from AFM (the biggest Pentecostal church in Zimbabwe) to 90s and spread much more in the 2000s with the arrival of religious leaders who proclaimed to be Prophets. These include Emmanuel Makandiwa, Uebert Angel, Walter Magaya, Passion Java, Tapiwa Freddy and many others.
Name Origin
The term Pentecostal is derived from Pentecost, an event commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the followers of Jesus Christ, as described in the second chapter of the Acts of the Apostles.
Like other forms of evangelical Protestantism, Pentecostalism adheres to the inerrancy of the Bible and the necessity of accepting Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior.
