Professor Tawana Kupe is a Zimbabwean academic, Associate Professor of Media Studies and the Vice-Chancellor and Principal for the University of Pretoria.[1]
Background
Kupe holds Bachelor of Arts Honours and Masters degrees in Literature Studies from the University of Zimbabwe and a Doctorate Philosophy degree in Media Studies from the University of Oslo in Norway. Professor Kupe has published books, book chapters and journal articles, written for newspapers and a commentated on radio and television. He is also active in the media space as a judge of journalism awards and also Chairman of boards of media NGOs.[2]
University of Pretoria Vice Chancellor Appointment
Kupe made the news in November 2018 when he was appointed as the first black Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria (UP) in over 100 years.[3]
