Tichaona Chiminya was a Zimbabwean driver and supporter of the MDC-T. He died on 15 April 2000 when he was killed in a petrol bomb attack by Zanu-PF supporters.
Background
Chiminya was married to Adella Chiminya and they had two children Faith and Blessed.[1]
Death
Chiminya and Talent Mabika were killed by a petrol bomb attack on April 15 2000 by Zanu-PF supporters. The two victims had left a meeting in Murambinda when the road along which they were driving was blocked by a Zanu-PF car.
A passenger travelling with Mr Chiminya said that men carrying AK-47 rifles and iron bars began attacking their car with Molotov cocktails. Several passengers managed to get out, but Chiminya and Mbika had locked their doors and were unable to escape. They were burned to death.
Police said they had opened an investigation into the killings, which came on the same day that a white farmer, David Stevens, was shot dead over a land dispute.[2] However, Joseph Mwale and his fellow accomplice, war vet Kainos ‘Kitsiyatota’ Zimunya, who were identified as having petrol bombed the vehicle were never arrested and prosecuted despite a High Court judge having recommended he be brought to book.[3] Mwale died in October 2016.
