In 2016, Tinaye Mbavari was elected to President of Junior Pariament, the first female so elected in five years. She said the 24th cabinet of Junior Parliament will engage in campaigns on stopping child marriages, imparting knowledge about these children’s rights across all age groups and working to see they are effectively practiced in Zimbabwe. STEM is there to help students who do sciences, if there are similar initiatives which cater for the other two departments (commerce and arts) it will be very appreciated. She said, “Girls should invest in themselves and pursue their dreams in a bid to have value in life.” ^[1]

The inaugural Junior Cabinet met in Harare in September 2016. Acting President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Minister Patrick Zhuwao accompanied Junior President Tinaye Mbavari and her team comprising other junior parliamentarians. Issues on their Junior Cabinet agenda included child marriages, drug use and abuse, patriotism and discovering and nurturing talents. Additional issues were unemployment, peaceful engagement between youths and political leaders, discrimination, child labour, sanitation, kids and young people in contact or conflict with the law, recreational facilities, and land redistribution to the youths and silent problems affecting the children like marital divorce. Emmerson Mnangagwa said the Government was elated that the current junior parliamentarians were active compared to previous ones. ^[2]
