Vlei
In Zimbabwe, a vlei is a low lying marshy area which is seasonally covered with water. They are also generally referred to as wetlands. The word vlei is Afrikaans and has generally been adopted in Zimbabwe and is officially used. It is derived from the Dutch word "valeye" which stands for "Valley". In essence therefore, a vlei is a valley.
