William Mugeyi is one of the greatest footballers to ever come out of Zimbabwe. William together with his twin brother Wilfred Mugeyi was a hot sensation in the early 90s when he played for the national soccer team The Dream Team
Background
William was born and raised in Harare Zimbabwe. His Brother Wilfred is also a celebrated footballer in the 90s. The brothers moved to SA where they have recently open a football academy.
Career
William started playing soccer for Black Aces Football Club as a left-back[1].together with his twin. They won the league championship in 1992 just before they migrated to neighbouring South Africa where he played for Umtata Bush Bucks in Durban.
William also appeared several times for the Zimbabwe National Team. He appeared in 12 World Cup Qualifiers and was part of the team that won the COSAFA Cup of 2000, he scored twice in the final.
Opening A Football Academy In South Africa
In February 2019, William and his brother opened an academy in East London, South Africa where they are based. Named the Mugeyi Sports Academy, located at Kidds Beach and Willow Park in East London, the academy opened its doors for young, aspiring South African male and female footballers. [2]
Trivia
The Mugeyis were so identical, referees would confuse them and sometimes penalise the wrong twin for the other twin's mistakes. The twins were used to playing and staying together that in 1995 when William's brother was loaned to an Israeli team he confessed he missed his twin so much he would call him every day.
