Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company Is a parastatal wholly owned by the government of Zimbabwe established by the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation.
Backgroung
Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Corporation was established by ZMDC in 2015 after the Government consolidated all the diamond mining concessions in Chiadzwa. The sole purpose of the company is to:
- Conduct extensive exploration and evaluation of diamonds across Zimbabwe
- Search of Kimberlite pipes which can be mined economically.
- Processing and recovery of diamonds.
Operations Portfolio
ZCDC has a portfolio that consists of 8 mining concessions of which 3 are operating and 5 are under resource evaluation.
Signing A Deal With Russian Diamond Miner
In June 2019, It was reported that Alrosa has entered into a joint venture (JV) agreement with Zimbabwe national diamond miner Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) to develop diamond deposits in Zimbabwe.[1]. It also emerged at the same signing ceremony that Alrosa will hold a 70% controlling stake for the development of greenfield projects, while ZCDC will own the balance..
Low Diamond Production Report 2019
In September 2019, it was reported that production had fallen by 78.9% at the Diamond Company due to may reasons which include but not limited to international diamond market prices dropping by 30 to 40% and lack of adequate leadership at the parastatal. [2]
