Sungura music legend Alick Macheso on Saturday reminded Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Minister Tino Machakaire about a haulage truck that the minister had promised the musician almost two years ago.
According to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200030531/where-is-my-truck-macheso-asks-machakaire">NewsDay</a>, in December 2022, when Machakaire was the deputy minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, he had promised Macheso a haulage truck after the musician’s performance at the Hwedza Arts Festival.
On Saturday, August 3, at the launch of Macheso’s 13th album “Kupa Kuturika” at the Alex Sports Club in Harare, the sungura star reminded Machakaire about the unfulfilled promise.
Macheso raised the issue just after Machakaire had gifted the musician with $10,000 – half for Macheso himself and the other half for his band.
Before handing over the wad of US dollar notes to Macheso’s management, Machakaire said:

I have come from far promoting him. I am a businessman. He is my best man, I love you. Mai Shero, Baba Shero, I love you.
So all Baba Shero fans, let us show everyone that we are a team. Let us switch on our [mobile phone] torches and salute Baba Shero.

The minister then held the microphone close to Macheso, allowing the musician to directly remind Machakaire about the promised haulage truck. Said Macheso:

Pano apa ndangopiwa mathousand asi vakandivimbisa kuti rori riri munzira ririkuuya [Here I have just been given thousands [of US dollars], but he promised me a [haulage] truck?]
</blockquote>
Machakaire rushed to cover up the issue, saying he was committed to fulfilling the promise. He said:

Vanonyora musanyore zvekunyepa, Baba Shero ishamwari yangu. Rori ravo ririkuuya asi handisi kutaura pano apa. [Journalists, don’t write lies. Baba Shero is my friend. His truck is on its way, but I don’t mean right here.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has cleared renowned Zimbabwean musician Alick Macheso to hold the launch of his new album “Kupa Kuturika” at the Alexander Sports Club in Harare on Friday, August 2, 2024.
Initially, there were concerns that the police could potentially ban the event due to fears of potential unrest during the SADC Industrialisation Week, which is scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 2.
However, Chief Superintendent Godfrey Moyo, the Officer Commanding Harare District, has advised Macheso’s team that the police will closely monitor the album launch event to ensure it proceeds without incident. He said:

Please confine your event to the above-stated venue and times outlined. Make sure that no Zimbabwean laws are violated. The police will monitor.

Speaking to <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/new-police-clear-machesos-album-launch">The Sunday Mail</a>, Orchestra Mberikwazvo band manager Tich Makahamadze pledged to adhere to the conditions of the clearance. He said:

Macheso’s 13th studio album, “Kupa Kuturika”, features six tracks: “Kuverengera”, “Undiregererewo”, “Zvichada Hama”, “Murangarire”, “Kunditaya”, and “Hunhu Hwakashata”.

The album was produced at Macheso’s Alema Music Studios in Chitungwiza by Bothwell Nyamhodera, with Aaron Tomu serving as the audio engineer.
Macheso’s publicist, Tichaona Makahamadze, confirmed that preparations for the album launch are well underway.

Alick Macheso Unveils Tracklist For 13th Album "Kupa Kuturika"

American stand-up comedienne and actress Tiffany Haddish, who is half-Eritrean, says her TikTok video showcasing a supermarket visit in Zimbabwe was intended to challenge some of the negative stereotypes about Africa.
Haddish’s video, in which she expresses apparent disbelief while scanning the aisles stocked with soft drinks, frozen meat, and fresh produce, drew backlash from some Zimbabwean social media users.
In the video, Haddish can be heard saying, “Look at this grocery store. It’s humungous, in Africa,” seemingly surprised by the variety and availability of goods on the supermarket shelves.
However, a user on the X social media platform said the comedian should travel more. Wrote the user:
How ignorant could she be? Did she think that Africans shop from rocks? She needs to travel more and unclog her sadly colonized view of the world. Yikes.
Another person said: “They think we’re chasing lions and zebras.”
Yet another critic said that Americans have a “misguided perception of Africa, believing that its inhabitants live in primitive conditions, residing in mud huts, lacking access to clean water, and being devoid of modern amenities like electricity and internet”.
In response to the criticism on X, Haddishsaid she had previously been fed misinformation and false narratives about Africa, which prompted her to share the supermarket video as a way to challenge those negative perceptions. She said:

Multichoice, the media conglomerate behind the popular DStv satellite television service, has announced an upward review of its subscription fees effective August 1, 2024.
In a notice sent to its customer base, Multichoice cited the rising operational costs as the primary driver behind this decision to adjust its pricing structure. It said:

We have tried our best to keep our expenses low but our operating costs continue to rise. We have thus reviewed our subscription fees with effect from 1 August 2024.
</blockquote>
The subscription fees for the Premium and Compact Plus packages have remained unchanged at US$75 and US$45 per month, respectively, providing stability for the high-end tier of DStv subscribers.
However, the company has implemented modest increases for some of its more affordable packages:

<li>Compact package: The monthly fee has increased by US$1, from US$29 to US$30.</li>
<li>Family package: The monthly fee has increased by US$1, from US$19 to US$20.</li>
</ul>
For the entry-level packages, the increases are slightly more significant:

Monica “Nicca Kats” Katsiga, a poetess and organizer, recently hosted a lively poetry show dubbed “Lustful Whisper” at the Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre.
The event featured a fusion of poetry, comedy, and music, with performers such as Priv, The Boy, Nicca, Mwana waGidza, and Great Chuma.
Katsiga, also known as Nicca Kats, shared her inspiration for creating the “Lustful Whispers” event in 
an interview with journalist Shingirai Manyengavana.
She explained that she writes a lot of erotic poetry, but has never had the opportunity to perform it for a live audience, as most people perceive it as unacceptable.
She felt the need to create a platform for herself and others who write similar types of poetry but lack the opportunity to showcase their work due to societal judgment.

Katsiga highlighted that events like “Lustful Whispers” play a vital role in the Harare arts and culture scene. She noted that people are tired of the usual themes and are seeking more fun and engaging experiences.
The event was designed to cater to this demand and provide a platform for a different type of artistic expression.
Katsiga expressed that she has something bigger planned for the future. Her goal is to continue creating platforms that support the local arts community and provide opportunities for artists to showcase their work, particularly those who explore unconventional or underrepresented themes.

Priviledge Manyandure known as Priv, who was part of the performing lineup expressed that performing at “Lustful Whispers” was meaningful because it provided a platform to share this kind of intimate, unconventional work.
She further highlighted that events like this play a vital role in creating space for artists to authentically express themselves, without societal judgment and she was grateful to have had the opportunity to connect with the audience in that way.
Joash T Makwenje, who attended the event, shared that while he wasn’t particularly interested in poetry beforehand, he ended up thoroughly enjoying the performances. He especially highlighted the act by Mwana waGidza, which he thought was excellent.

Poetess Nicca Kats Hosts "Lustful Whispers" Poetry Event In Harare

Veteran actress Susan Chenjerai, renowned for her role as <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Susan_Chenjerai">Mai Rwizi</a> in the popular comedy series “Mhuri yavaMukadota” on Zimbabwe Television (ZTV), has passed away. She was 83 years old.
Chenjerai grew up in the Mbare suburb of Harare and joined Mukadota’s band, Safe Brothers, in 1969. Prior to that, she was part of the Bantu Actors group in 1951 and the Marandellas Bush Babies in 1958.
Over the course of her illustrious career, Chenjerai had the opportunity to work with several prominent Zimbabwean musical acts, including the Wagon Wheels, where she met the legendary Oliver Mtukudzi before eventually collaborating with Mukadota.
Chenjerai has also recorded music with Jordan Chataika. She was still in school when Mukadota approached her after hearing her singing at Majubeki.
When she started singing with Mukadota, Chenjerai was working at Willards before eventually quitting to pursue her musical career.
She then got a job at OK Zimbabwe and stopped touring with Mukadota, whom she said in an interview was moving around with other female performers such as Katarina.
Chenjerai also revealed in the interview that although they used to earn money from the performances, she never made much personally because Mukadota would only give her a portion of the earnings. This prompted her decision to seek employment at OK Zimbabwe.
Chenjerai was married to the late cleric Lovemore Mobate, and at the time of her death, she was a pastor at the New Gospel Church of God.
She is survived by five children, more than 30 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren.
Chenjerai was the recipient of three prestigious awards: the Zimbabwe Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award, the Silver Jubilee Award, and the NAMA Legend Award.

Blessing Shumba To Launch New Album "Christos"

Sungura music legend Nicholas “Madzibaba” Zakaria has continued to perform live shows abroad, despite reports suggesting he has been unwell.
In a recent interview with <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/standard-style/article/200028642/im-fit-as-a-fiddle-says-madzibaba">The Standard</a>, Zakaria acknowledged he had been experiencing health issues, but stated he was now feeling much better and planned to proceed with scheduled live performances in Mozambique. He said:

Yes, I have not been well, but I am in a much better state and departing for weekend shows in Mozambique this evening [last Thursday].
About the media reports concerning my health, it’s only natural that anything relating to a person of my stature would attract widespread coverage.
I welcome the outpouring of love from music fans, journalists, fellow musicians, industry stakeholders and the general populace.

Zakaria kicked off his Mozambican tour with a show at the Predio Zeka Aolado Da Bomba last Friday, followed by another performance at the Cine UNIAO (SONGO).
He will conclude his tour in Mozambique with a show at the Mutarara Nhambayamwe on Tuesday (tomorrow).
Zakaria revealed he intends to showcase songs from his upcoming album during the Mozambique performances, offering concertgoers a preview ahead of the album’s scheduled release later this year.
Addressing reports about Zakaria’s health concerns and financial difficulties, fellow musician Baba Harare lamented the challenges faced by local artists who have worked tirelessly for years yet have little to show for their efforts. He wrote on Facebook:

State media reports last week indicated Zakaria was struggling to make ends meet amid battles with diabetes, hypertension, and cramps that were making it difficult for him to walk.
Zakaria is credited for nurturing musicians such as Alick Macheso, System Tazvida, Amon Mvula, Cephas Karushanga and Simon Mutambi, among others.
He has been in the music industry for close to 48 years with Mabvi Nemagokora and Ndine Mubvunzo being his most popular albums among his 29 albums.

Ailing Sungura Star Nicholas Zakaria Presses On with International Performances

Sungura music legend Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria is appealing for help as he battles diabetes, hypertension, and cramps that have made it difficult for him to walk.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/watch-madzibaba-zakaria-appeals-for-help-amidst-struggles-with-diabetes/">State media</a>, the 69-year-old Zakaria revealed he has shelved plans to record his 30th album due to poor health. He said:

I am dying slowly due to an illness that has jeopardised my plans. Sometimes I struggle to walk when I come under attack. I have battled this condition for years, but it’s now getting worse.
I don’t know where I will get help because I am struggling to make ends meet like most singers out there.
Live shows are no longer rewarding since people are also struggling to raise money to attend shows.
I have opened up about my illness because I don’t want to die in silence like most artistes out there.
In my life, I have never suffered like this because my condition keeps on deteriorating with each passing day.

Speaking at their home in Chitungwiza recently, Zakaria’s wife, Margaret Gweshe, also appealed for Good Samaritans’ help, saying they are failing to raise money for food. She said:

My husband’s health deteriorated two years ago, he is no longer the same due to poor health.
Sometimes he complains of dizziness and he struggles to appear on stage on time during his live performances.
We are appealing for help from well-wishers because we are failing to cater for his needs. He is on a special diet.
The band told me that my husband sometimes appears on stage late since he is sick.
When he is under attack, he forces himself to perform for the sake of his fans. On Thursday, he is going to Mozambique for some shows because he doesn’t have a choice since music remains his only source of income.

Nicholas Zakaria Appeals For Help As He Battles Diabetes And Hypertension

The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) recently unveiled the ZimDigital set-top boxes (decoders) that allow Zimbabweans to access local content freely across seven HD television stations namely 3KTV, ZTN Prime, NRTV, Kumba TV, Ke Yona TV, and Channel D, and ZBCtv.
With these decoders, viewers can access seven TV stations and six national radio stations, without any monthly subscriptions.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/baz-introduces-set-top-boxes-for-free-access-to-local-tv-channels-in-zimbabwe/">State media</a>, BAZ’s technical director, Mathias Chakanyuka, said the launch of the ZimDigital decoders could help promote Zimbabwean talent and content creation within the country. He said:

We have prioritised installing transmission infrastructure across the country, starting with border areas.
With the essential transmission structures in place, the focus shifted to enabling the public to access these digital services via set-top boxes or decoders.
These set-top boxes are critical in receiving the digital signals, allowing viewers to access a wide variety of local content across the seven television channels.
These devices play a crucial role in accessing the diverse local content programming transmitted by our seven television channels, marking a significant step towards realising our goal of providing free entertainment galore to the public.
This move could help promote Zimbabwean talent and content creation within the country, potentially boosting the local entertainment industry.
This is a positive step towards enriching the viewing experience for Zimbabwean audiences.

ZimDigital Decoders To Promote Local Talent And Content Creation - BAZ

State-owned broadcaster, Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), has lifted the “ban” on Winky D’s music on its radio stations.
The Zimdancehall chanter’s songs were banned from ZBC radio stations following the release of his album “Eureka Eureka.”
Released on January 1, 2023, the album angered Zimbabwe’s ruling establishment leading to the censorship of Winky D’s music.
One of the songs from the album, “Ibotso”, talks about corruption, mismanagement and abuse of public resources by a greedy elite few.
<a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/state-media-unfreeze-ban-on-winky-d-move-a-strategy-to-woo-audience/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> reported a source as saying the decision to lift the ban on Winky D’s music was influenced by the new leadership at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC).
However, some songs from Winky D’s “Eureka Eureka” album, such as “Ibotso” and “Dzimba dzemabwe,” remain banned. Said the source:

There is a new board which is bringing the new strategy. Of course, we will not play all of his songs but his coming back on the radio is a strategy by the new board. The old board took things more personally and was rigid.

ZANU PF youth leader Charles Munganasa, who was recently appointed acting ZBC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), is reportedly spearheading a new strategy at the state broadcaster.
Winky D’s newly released song, Love Quartet, has been receiving a fair share of airplay on local radio stations.
On 04 March 2023, police officers stormed the stage during Winky D’s live performance and shut down his show to intimidate him for his critical commentary.

State Media Unfreeze "Ban" On Winky D's Music

The Founder of a Christian-based community organisation, “Spoken Unto Me 2021” (SUM2021), has launched a book aimed at bringing up well-grounded children exposed to language while cultivating deep faith in God for them.
Tinotenda Tawha, who studied International Business, majoring in E-commerce, launched the book, ABC’s Activity Book Level 1, over the weekend at a ceremony in Harare.
As the title aptly says, the book uses the foundation of ABCs to instil biblical principles in children.
The book has a double impact of giving children a concrete foundation for learning language while helping them to grow with a strong footing in Christ by learning the alphabet through bible scriptures.
Tawha said the book was God-inspired and seeks to expose kids to the alphabet which is the foundation of language and help children grow through development.
Speaking at the launch, Tinotenda said the alphabet is a fitting vehicle to ensure that children grow up with a strong foundation in Christ while also learning to recognize letters and sounds to form words. Said Tinotenda:

At SpokenUnto Me 2021, we believe that it is important for each child to grow up with a strong foundation in Christ. Through this book, each child will not only learn the alphabet but they will also be taught different bible principles. All of these principles will help them in their daily lives to live a life guided and centred in Christ.

She said in addition to learning the alphabet, children will be able to colour in the book adding that this assists them to learn to read, write and be creative.
Tinotenda says children are a blessing from God, and adults have a responsibility to bring them up in the Lord. She said:

ABCs are the foundation on which children learn a language, and they internalise it even as they get older. The book is helping a child not only learn but also to then have the understanding of biblical principles as this helps them grow in their faith.
</blockquote>
The book is spiced with prayers and bible verses with every letter of the alphabet matched with an appropriate scripture reading.
The letter A was matched with the word Adoration. The book highlights what adoration is about. Readers get to learn the importance and benefits of showering God with praise and adoration. “You are God almighty! All praise and glory belong to you.”
The book then gives Psalm 95:6 as the supporting verse for Adoration. “Come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before the Lord our maker.”
The letter B was matched to the word Blessing with the children exposed to the need for everyone to be blessed. 
Readers get to commit their loved ones through prayer. “Bless my family, friends and all those in need around the world.”
The book then quotes Numbers 6: 24-26 “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
In addition to learning the alphabet, the book offers the children an opportunity to be creative, by colouring in the provided illustrations, including insects, human beings, animal accessories, and clothes among many others.
The book winds up by quoting Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all this through Christ who strengthens me.”
Tinotenda said this verse is meant to encourage the children that they can achieve anything that they set their mind to, depending on God for wisdom, strength and guidance.
She said Spoken Unto Me2021 has a passion for spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ to everyone in different places that God sends them out to. Said Tinotenda:

We would also want to share God’s love and mercy for us all cognizant of the fact that we are here because God has been and will always be gracious to us.
This is inspired by Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are God’s handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do”.

Spoken Unto Me uses the book to develop God-centred families and friendships, encouraging family time that is centred around God’s word.

SUM2021 Founder Writes Scripture-based Christian Book For Children

Zimbabwean author Faith Mudiwa Chipangura has reached an impressive milestone in her literary career with the release of her 16th book, “Beneath the Shadows of Loss.”
The book’s launch event, held at Joina City in Harare, was met with a sizeable and engaged audience.
As reported by Shingirai Manyengavana, “Beneath the Shadows of Loss” draws from Chipangura’s experience with the shadow of loss and offers the assurance of overcoming, finding hope, and footing following the loss of loved ones. 
In the book, Chipangura examines her personal experiences that inspired its creation. She said:

My latest book is titled “Beneath the Shadows of Loss.” It draws from my personal experiences with the profound shadow of loss.
</blockquote>
The work offers “assurance and guidance to readers on overcoming grief, finding hope, and regaining their footing after the loss of loved ones.”
Through this book, Chipangura aims to let others know that “they are not alone in navigating the complex emotions and challenges that come with such profound life events.”
At its core, she says, “‘Beneath the Shadows of Loss’ is about the power of resilience and the journey towards healing, even when the path is not linear.”
Chipangura expressed her excitement over this accomplishment. “It feels like the first time but with higher stakes now. It’s always fulfilling to reach a certain milestone, so yeah I am thrilled and humbled concerning how far I have come in writing.”
Her latest work grapples with the “messy nature of grief” that she has experienced firsthand. Through this book, she aims to bring people who are navigating similar challenges, providing them with guidance and assurance that they are not alone.
“Readers can be rest assured that they will see themselves between the lines of my story,” Chipangura explained.
The foundation of the book is to offer a path forward, helping readers find their healing and overcome the profound grief of losing loved ones.

The writing process for “Beneath the Shadows of Loss” proved to be Chipangura’s “most challenging book” she has ever written, due to the personal and emotional nature of the subject matter.
“The biggest challenge was stopping the tears from falling every time I opened it to keep working,” she said.
However, Chipangura had to extend grace to herself, recognizing that this was a “sore point” that required time and care to navigate.
With the support of her therapist, who gave her the “freedom to express” herself, Chipangura was able to work through the “emotional attachments and complexities” and ultimately complete the manuscript, despite the nonlinear process of healing.
Chipangura hopes readers will find the “power of process and the importance of trusting the process” to be the book’s most impactful and memorable takeaways.
She wants readers to see themselves reflected in her story, finding comfort and strength in the shared experience of profound loss and love for those who have passed.  She said:

Our losses may be different, but the one common denominator is the love we have for those we lost, and I hope that brings them comfort and strength to draw from my experience and keep going.

Afro-fusion singer and Mbira player <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Hope_Masike">Hope Masike</a> has been appointed to the board of directors for the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA).
Masike will oversee events management and planning activities.
In a statement, ZIMURA director of Information, Media, and Publicity Alexio Gwenzi said Masike’s appointment follows the departure of Phillip Chipfumbu. Said Gwenzi:

Hope Masike Appointed To ZIMURA Board Of Directors

The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) Board has appointed Napoleon Nyanhi as its new director, taking over from Nicholas Moyo, who was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture in October 2023.
In a statement, NACZ Board Chairperson Jacqueline Nozipo Maraire expressed confidence that Nyanhi’s leadership will allow the organisation to realise its restructuring vision, strategic goals, and stakeholder needs. She said:

Napoleon Nyanhi Appointed National Arts Council Director

Self-exiled Zimbabwean musician Thomas Mapfumo has rejected claims that he is considering returning home after he was offered various gifts by Wicknell Chivayo, an ex-convict and alleged tenderpreneur.
Mapfumo, who has been living in self-imposed exile for many years, is an outspoken critic of the government and has accused the governing ZANU PF party of corruption.
Chivayo offered Mapfumo a US$700,000 package which included a furnished house, a Toyota Landcruiser SUV and US$100,000 in cash to entice him to return to Zimbabwe, which the latter rejected.
Mapfumo’s manager, Sam Mataure, was recently quoted by The NewsHawks as saying he was expecting to meet with Chivayo to discuss the offer.
However, in an audio sent to <a href="https://nehandaradio.com/2024/05/17/please-stop-soiling-my-name-thomas-mapfumo-tells-wicknell-chivayo/">Nehanda Radio</a> and Chivayo, Mapfumo made his feelings clear. He said:

Hello Wicknell, let me tell you, please stop soiling my name. If what you think you doing is good, go ahead without involving my name, don’t soil my name by talking nonsense about me. I don’t know you and I have never met you.
I just heard about you on the news. I don’t hate you, just leave my name alone. Don’t play with my name. Don’t involve me in your dealings.
I don’t want to be exchanging insults with you Wicknell. You are too young for me to be dealing with you, I am 78 years old now and cannot be seen trading insults with you. I ask you again to leave my name alone.
I hear you love my music, let it end there. Don’t talk about other things. If what you think you are doing is okay, that’s okay, but leave my name alone. I don’t want to be involved in your issues. Please respect me.

Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Ministry permanent secretary Ndavaningi “Nick” Mangwana was cited as saying Mapfumo is free to return home. Said Mangwana:
<blockquote>
We have had conversations with Mr Thomas Mapfumo’s handlers, including Mukanya himself on the phone.
He wants to hold his swan song in Zimbabwe but he is scared that he will be arrested. For what?
Nobody is interested in him. At the culmination of the Second Republic, President ED did not declare a single Zimbabwean a persona non grata (PNG).
On the contrary, he asserted every Zimbabwean’s cardinal right to come home (including during COVID-19 lockdowns).
“Mr Mapfumo and many other Zimbabweans did come home without any restrictions. Some continued their activities within and without the country afterwards.
We are a democratic State and we don’t arrest people for free speech that doesn’t break our laws.
Mr Mapfumo is a soon-to-be octogenarian, and we wish him well in his remaining years.

The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), Transmedia and local Television broadcasters are selling the ZimDigital decoder which offers Zimbabweans access to all local TV channels in full HD.
The decoder includes a cable, remote, cables, indoor, and outdoor antenna.
The channels available on the decoder are 3Ktv, Keyona TV, NRTV, Jive TV, ZBC News, ZBCtv and ZTN Prime. 
Unlike PayTV services such as DStv and Azam, ZimDigital decoder does not require subscription fees.

Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono said all the TV channels on the ZimDigital decoder are linked to the government and ZANU PF system. He wrote on X:

3KTV is owned by the Daily News, which competes with The Herald as the propaganda mouthpiece for the Government.
Keyona TV is owned by Fairtalk Communications (Private) Limited, a radio broadcasting company that is also the parent company of Skyz Metro FM and Breeze FM.
Interestingly, Fairtalk is partly owned by the Zimbabwe National Army.
NRTV is owned by Rusununguko Media (Pvt) Ltd, which is reportedly affiliated with the Zimbabwe National Army.
Jive TV is a youth-oriented television channel that was launched by the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) in 2022. It is a ZBC channel!
The other two, ZBC News and ZBC-TV, are owned by the Zimbabwean Government.
ZTN is also run by the Government through Zimpapers, the holding company for the Herald newspaper, which is the Zim Government’s biggest propaganda megaphone.
So, all these TV stations are run by propaganda companies for the regime!
Zimbabwe only has ONE terrestrial TV station, the rest can only be watched via decoders, and they are all regime creations!

The Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre recently premiered “The Aftermath,” a powerful play that explores the topic of safe abortion.
The production was created by a team of writers, including Jasen Mphepo, Munashe Goromonzi, Farirai Clarence Borerwe, Shingirai Manyengavana, and Tapiwa Mutekede, with Norbert Makoche directing.
The play delves into societal issues surrounding sexual reproductive health rights, crime, family disintegration, and youth concerns in a way that resonates with people of different ages.
In an interview with journalist Shingirai Manyengavana, Jasen Mphepo shared how he was inspired to create the play.
He explained that his aim was to create work in the theatre that speaks to diverse groups of people, regardless of gender or religion.
He hoped to explore the challenges that arise within marriages and families when faced with difficult choices and to encourage thought-provoking discussions and the consideration of different choices.

Munashe Rachael Goromonzi, who played the lead role and contributed to the script, shared her experience working with the cast and crew.
Being the only female member in an all-male ensemble proved to be a unique and reflective journey for her.
She praised the collaboration with the cast, which created a safe and inclusive environment for exploration and creativity.
The team’s commitment to fostering such an environment allowed for a deep dive into the world of the play and its characters, encouraging the sharing of ideas and perspectives.
Through this collaborative process, the story was brought to life on stage, drawing upon the collective creativity and insights of the entire team.
The play addresses universal themes of grief and loss, which resonate with contemporary audiences. By authentically exploring these emotions, “The Aftermath” connects with audiences emotionally, prompting them to reflect on their own experiences of loss and find solace in shared struggles.

Munashe emphasized that the play tackles the topic of abortion rights, specifically examining their presence or absence in Zimbabwe.
This subject matter holds great significance in contemporary society, as it remains a contentious issue worldwide.
By shedding light on this social and political issue, the play sparks important conversations and challenges societal norms, encouraging audiences to reflect on reproductive rights and access to healthcare critically.
The play’s exploration of illegal abortion sheds light on the challenges and risks faced by women in accessing safe and legal reproductive healthcare. By raising awareness of this issue, “The Aftermath” serves as a catalyst for advocacy and social change.
It prompts audiences to confront the realities of illegal abortion and emphasizes the urgent need for improved reproductive rights and access to healthcare.
Through engaging with the play’s narrative, audiences were encouraged to actively consider and potentially take action towards addressing these societal issues.
“The Aftermath” premiered on May 7, 2024, at the Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre, with a red-carpet event attended by notable figures such as Mr. Nicholas Moyo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Elvis Mari, the Board Chair of Patsime Trust, embassy attachés, renowned theatre practitioners.
The play is also set to go on a nationwide tour to Mutare, Masvingo and Bulawayo respectively.

"The Aftermath" Premieres At Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has denied earlier reports that it had allocated US$300,000 for this year’s Bulawayo Arts Festival (BAF), saying the actual cost of the event will be US$30,000.
This came after the local authority was criticised by residents for funding an arts festival at a time when it was struggling to provide water for ratepayers.
In a statement on Friday, BCC Corporate Communications Manager, Nesisa Mpofu, said the BAF budget caters for various activities. She said:

The Bulawayo Arts Festival is budgeted for in the City of Bulawayo 2024 Budget under the Festivals and Recreational Activities line item which caters for various activities which also include the Youth Festival, youth training programmes under recreational services, participation at exhibitions (for example participation and training of Drum majorettes for the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair among other aspects amounting to US$300,000 for all the programmes).
The Budget for the 2024 Bulawayo Day and Bulawayo Arts Festival is US$30,000 instead of US$300,000 alluded to in some media reports and this budget includes the cost of venues as Council’s contribution and cross charges across various Municipal Departments.

The City of Bulawayo commemorates Bulawayo Day on the 1st of June and Bulawayo Festival (BAF) week from the 2 to 5 June annually since 2020 following the resolution of Council on 02 October 2019.
1 June was declared Bulawayo Day because it is the anniversary day of the declaration of Bulawayo as a town.
The declaration of Bulawayo Day and Festival Week by the Council was followed by lobbying by stakeholders in the creative industries.

Bulawayo City Council Denies Allocating US$300K To Arts Festival

<a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Alick_Macheso">Alick Macheso</a>, the veteran Sungura musician, has postponed the release of his album at Alex Sports Club in Harare.
Originally planned for 7 June, the album launch will now take place on August 2, 2024, coinciding with warmer outdoor temperatures.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Macheso explained that the decision to postpone was due to the chilly weather typically experienced in June. 
Despite the change in timing, the venue for the album launch remains Alex Sports Club. Reads the statement:

Alick Macheso Postpones Album Launch

Award-winning Gospel musician <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Dorcas_Moyo">Dorcas Moyo</a> is set to launch her tenth album titled “Mvere Dzabvepi” in Mutare, this Saturday, 27 April 2024.
The album is a Christian production extracted from the book of Genesis 27 verses 21 to 27 and has 10 tracks including the title track Mvere Dzabvepi, Muroyi and Nhai Moses.
Speaking in an interview with <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/life-amp-style/article/200022364/societal-immoralities-prompt-me-into-action-moyo">NewsDay</a> early this year, Moyo said problems that arise in people’s daily lives prompted her to use music as a tool to fight societal immoralities. She said:

Issues that vary from infidelity, ritual killings, immorality and drug abuse are a concoction that prompts me into action.
My desire to influence positive change among humanity and to multiply the population of heaven catapults me to go on preaching the gospel through music.
</blockquote>
She urged fellow artistes not to take fans or their followers for granted and to have respect for the art of other artistes.
Moyo revealed that her ascendency to stardom was not plain sailing as at one point, she was expelled from a worship team because she was deemed not good enough.
She said her success in the music industry was indeed a testimony to challenging stereotypes and barriers imposed against individuals. Said Moyo:

At one time I was ejected from the praise and worship team having been deemed a misfit. It ate me up as I was literally jettisoned from my passion. I find it difficult to forget the incident and it remains one of my top testimonies.

She said the theme of the album “Mvere Dzabvepi” is centred on righteousness and spiritual introspection.
Dorcas has nine albums namely Ndinokutungamirira, Ndokusheedzai Jesu, Zvininipise, Ndibatsirei Mwari, Pamarah Tapfuura, Bvisai Marara, Bvudzi Rangu Ramera, and Mhanza Haisekwe.
She also has more than 14 singles under her belt which include Wakabuda Sei, Anomira Nesu, Munyaradzi, Zvamakatirongera, and Muri Mutsvene, among others.

<a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Wicknell_Chivayo">Wicknell Chivayo</a> has continued his spending spree on cars for artistes after he gave away four Toyota Aquas to Butisi, Khedha, Ma Very Very and Kapfupi.
In a post on Facebook, Chivayo, however, showed he doesn’t know some of the recipients of his cars. He wrote:

In a post on social media on 28 March this year, Bhutisi told Chivayo that he worked with other artistes in the run-up to the August 2023 general elections to create content promoting ZANU PF. He said:

Bhutisi, Kapfupi, Kedha, MaVery Very Gifted Toyota Aquas By Chivayo

Veteran musician <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Hosiah_Chipanga">Hosiah Chipanga</a> has expressed his disappointment after the organisers of the Independence Gala in Murambinda excluded him from the list of performing artists for tomorrow’s event.
Ironically, the highly anticipated Uhuru Gala is taking place in Chipanga’s home province of Manicaland.
In a social media post, Chipanga claimed that the organisers informed him that he had been excluded from performing at the event for criticising the government. Wrote Chipanga:

I am deeply hurt, my family, friends and fans that even though I am a citizen and musician of Zimbabwe I will not be able to perform and celebrate the 44 years of independence in Murambinda, Manicaland which is also my hometown. Organisers from the Information Ministry said I criticise the government.

The gala is set for Murambinda B High School as part of the country’s 44th independence celebrations and admission is free.
Some of the musicians expected to grace the occasion are Sulumani Chimbetu, Nicholas Zacharia, Sandra Ndebele, Diana Samkange, Mark Ngwazi, Simon Mutambi, Shantel Sithole, Chillspot Family, and Jah Master.
Zimbabwe celebrates its independence from Great Britain on April 18, which came about in 1980 after 16 years of a protracted bush war that claimed the lives of thousands of people.
This year’s independence celebrations will be running under the theme Zim@44: Unity, Peace and Development Towards Vision 2030.

Chivayo Gifts Jah Master Mercedes Benz C200

“Haywire” a provocative play centred around mental health, recently drew audiences at the Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre during the 3-day ACCEL ZW theatre festival.
Created by Chipo Chikara-Nyoni and Tafadzwa Bob Mutumbi, and directed by Everson Ndlovu, the play looks 
into the complexities of anxiety and depression, shedding light on the struggles faced by individuals dealing with these conditions.
With a talented cast, including Lisa Gutu, the production generated conversations about mental health.
In an interview with journalist Shingirai Manyengavana, Chipo Chikara-Nyoni, one of the creators, shared her unique perspective as a woman contributing to the exploration of mental health in “Haywire”.
She emphasized that her female energy and perspective brought depth to the main character, a man navigating the world while grappling with mental health issues.
Chipo’s involvement lent a nurturing and empathetic lens to the character’s journey, challenging societal expectations and fostering dialogue.

Motivated by the global surge in mental health challenges, Chipo, Tafadzwa, and Everson recognized the urgency to address these issues within the Zimbabwean context.
They observed how cultural, traditional, and religious factors, coupled with limited resources, created additional complexities in tackling mental health.
Drawing from their experiences abroad, the creative team aimed to initiate open conversations and promote local 
understanding of mental health struggles.
Everson Ndlovu, the director of “Haywire”, expressed his belief in the power of theatre to convey the inexpressible. Through physicality and immersive storytelling, the production aimed to engage audiences deeply emotionally.
Everson emphasized that theatre serves as a mirror to society, allowing individuals to recognize familiar experiences and fostering conversations about mental health.
Tafadzwa Bob Mutumbi, a theatremaker and actor in the play, discussed his attraction to the character of Morris, who grapples with anxiety.
Tafadzwa underscored the importance of addressing mental health openly and breaking the stigma surrounding it, particularly in Zimbabwe, where discussions on this topic are often shrouded in spiritual beliefs.
Lisa Gutu, another talented performer in “Haywire” spoke about her role in portraying the main character’s inner thoughts.
She highlighted the fulfilment of being part of a project that initiates dialogue and brings awareness to mental health issues.
Lisa emphasized that the play was crucial in starting conversations and creating a movement toward a more understanding and empathetic society.
“Haywire” was amongst the many plays which were showcased at the Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre during the ACCEL ZW theatre festival organized by Savanna Trust.
