A 47-year-old police officer has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for the rape and sexual assault of his own daughter.
The abuse took place at the family’s home in Zvishavane, with the court hearing how the officer, who was stationed at the local Support Unit, repeatedly abused his Grade 7 daughter over an extended period.
The abuse began in August 2024 when the officer, returning home drunk one night, forced himself on his young daughter. He then threatened her, warning the terrified child not to report the matter.
The sexual assault continued into the new year, with another incident in January 2025 where the officer fondled his daughter and expressed further desires to have sex with her.
This time, the attack was interrupted by the arrival of the girl’s stepmother, but the officer once again intimidated his daughter into staying silent.
The young victim eventually found the courage to confide in her friends and a teacher at school, who helped her report the abuse.
A medical examination confirmed what had happened, leading to the arrest and conviction of her father.

Heart &amp; Soul TV (HStv) head of news, Blessed Mhlanga, will remain in remand prison for at least two more days after his bail hearing was postponed at the High Court on Monday. The hearing has been rescheduled for Wednesday.
High Court Judge Justice Gibson Mandaza said he needed more time to review the case and denied a request by the State to move the case to a specialised anti-corruption court.
The National Prosecuting Authority had argued for the move since the original case was heard in a Regional Court (anti-corruption court) last week.
Mhlanga’s lawyer, Chris Mhike, opposed the idea, arguing that the case has nothing to do with corruption.
Mhlanga was arrested on February 24 after covering press conferences held by Blessed “Bombshell” Geza, a former ZANU PF central committee member who had publicly criticized President Emmerson Mnangagwa, accusing him of corruption and mismanagement.
Mhlanga faces charges of inciting violence, with authorities claiming his broadcasts could encourage unrest.

Blessed Mhlanga’s Bail Hearing Postponed To Wednesday

The High Court of Zimbabwe, sitting in Harare, has convicted Hugh Tinashe Sibanda and Centenary Tobacco Company (Pvt) Ltd of fraud after they used forged documents to import 4.47 million litres of duty-free diesel between October 2022 and February 2023, resulting in a revenue loss of US$2.8 million to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA).
The brief facts of the case according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) are that Sibanda deceived CMED (Pvt) Ltd by falsely claiming that his company had government authorisation to import duty-free fuel for agricultural purposes. He presented counterfeit letters from the Ministry of Agriculture and ZIMRA, enabling his company to evade duty payments.
The fraud was uncovered in January 2023 when ZIMRA discovered the documents were forged and sought payment from CMED. 
After a trial, Sibanda was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison, with 5 years suspended for good behaviour, leaving him with an effective 15-year sentence.
Furthermore, Centenary Tobacco Company (Pvt) Ltd has been ordered to pay ZIMRA US$ 2.1 million, and the Sheriff of the High Court has been instructed to seize the company’s property to recover the outstanding funds.

The High Court in Zimbabwe found a man and a company guilty of fraud for using fake documents to import fuel without paying taxes, causing a loss of $2.8 million to the government. High Court Orders Centenary Tobacco Company To Pay ZIMRA US$2.1 Million

The Harare High Court will hear an appeal on Monday, 10 March, filed by Alpha Media Holdings senior journalist, Blessed Mhlanga, against the denial of his bail by Harare Magistrate Farai Gwitima.
Mhlanga, represented by Chris Mhike of Atherstone &amp; Cook, is challenging the lower court’s decision to deny him bail. 
He argues that the magistrate erred by refusing him bail without compelling reasons to justify his continued detention.
In his appeal, Mhlanga contends that the court “a quo” wrongly concluded that, as a senior political reporter, he would interfere with potential witnesses simply because some of his juniors might be called to testify.
 He also argues that the magistrate misdirected herself by assuming that consent to remand equates to an admission of guilt or reasonable suspicion.
Mhlanga further submitted that the magistrate’s decision ignored his denial of transmitting the controversial messages in question during the bail proceedings.
Mhlanga was arrested on 24 February 2025 after voluntarily presenting himself to the police. He faces charges of allegedly inciting violence and transmitting data messages that could cause property damage. 
These accusations stem from his reporting on press conferences held by Blessed “Bombshell” Geza, a war veteran and critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, where Geza called for the President’s resignation over allegations of corruption, incompetence, and misgovernance.

High Court To Hear Blessed Mhlanga’s Appeal Against Denial Of Bail

The Police General Headquarters has initiated an investigation into Superintendent Elizabeth Chipfakacha, who is accused of demanding bribes and extorting businesspeople in Masvingo under the guise of charging protection fees.
Chipfakacha is alleged to have used her connections to intimidate her targets, reportedly claiming ties to former Masvingo Officer Commanding, Commissioner Crispen Charumbira, and Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba.
Chipfakacha has been stationed at the same police station for nearly three decades—an unusually long tenure in the force, which has raised questions.
She is also accused of bullying junior officers and orchestrating the transfers of high-ranking officials based on her influence and gossip.
On October 4, 2024, the local business community submitted a formal complaint to then Commissioner General of Police, Godwin Matanga.
In the letter, they called for a lifestyle audit of Chipfakacha and her husband, Eddie Chipfakacha, both senior officers at Masvingo Central Police Station.
The business community contended that the couple lives a lavish lifestyle far beyond the means of civil servants, pointing to two large houses they have built—one in Rujeko and another in Target Kopje. They suspect these assets may be funded by proceeds from bribes.
There are allegations that Chipfakacha is involved in illegal gold panning, and the business community has urged for further investigation into these claims.
Chipfakacha, who oversees operations at Masvingo Central Police District, and her husband, who serves as Officer-in-Charge of CID at the same station, are said to have disrupted the business community, tarnishing the police force’s reputation. The business leaders are also calling for Chipfakacha’s immediate transfer.
ZRP spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the ongoing investigation in an exclusive statement to The Mirror. Said Nyathi:

In a written response to The Mirror dated March 5, 2025, Nyathi said the investigations are being carried out from Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba’s office. He said:

Police Superintendent Under Investigation For Extorting Masvingo Business Community

Two siblings from Zvishavane, Midlands Province, have been handed 12-month jail sentences for orchestrating a staged armed robbery at a local service station.
Biana Madzudzu (26) and her brother Givemore Madzudzu (37) were convicted of theft after they stole US$18,200 in cash and fuel coupons from DA Motors Service Station on February 23, 2025.
In an elaborate scheme, Biana, who worked as a supervisor at DA Motors, pretended to be attacked at knifepoint.
She then handed over the money to her brother, before reporting the fake robbery to the ZRP Zvishavane.
However, the police investigation revealed that the entire incident had been staged. The siblings were subsequently arrested, and police recovered US$12,258 in cash, the stolen fuel coupons, and other items that had been hidden in the Kandodo and Zuderberg mountains.
The court sentenced each of the siblings to 36 months in prison, with 12 months suspended for good behavior and another 12 months suspended on the condition that they pay US$3,500 in restitution. As a result, Biana and Givemore Madzudzu will each serve an effective 12-month jail term.

A brother and sister from Zvishavane staged a fake armed robbery at a service station. The sister worked there and pretended to be attacked, giving money to her brother. They were caught, arrested, and sentenced to jail for stealing money and fuel coupons. The court gave them a 36-month sentence but suspended some of it if they behave well and pay back some of the stolen money. In the end, they will each serve a 12-month jail term for their crime.

Service Station Supervisor And Her Brother Convicted Of Staging Armed Robbery

A 36-year-old Chinese national, Yang Zhian, a mining supervisor at Long Fortune Mine in Collen Bawn, has been remanded in custody for the murder of 31-year-old Pardon Gumbo, an artisanal miner.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), on March 5, 2025, Gumbo and a group of artisanal miners entered the Long Fortune Mine to prospect for gold using metal detectors and a mattock.
They were confronted by a 22-year-old security guard, Gift Tashinga Mandeya, who denied them access, but the miners continued prospecting near the slime dam.
Mandeya then alerted Yang Zhian via radio. Zhian allegedly armed himself with a firearm and proceeded to the scene, where he opened fire on the group of artisanal miners.
Gumbo was later found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the forehead. His colleagues called the police, who rushed him to Gwanda Provincial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Yang Zhian appeared in court on Friday, March 07, 2025, and was remanded in custody until March 21, 2025, as the investigation into the incident continues.

A Chinese man named Yang Zhian killed a miner named Pardon Gumbo at a mine in Gwanda. Gumbo and other miners were looking for gold when they were stopped by a security guard. The guard called Zhian who shot at the miners, killing Gumbo. Zhian has been arrested and will be in custody until the investigation is finished. This happened on March 5, 2025. Zhian will go to court on March 21, 2025.

Chinese National Kills Artisanal Miner In Gwanda

Alpha Media Holdings senior journalist Blessed Mhlanga has filed an appeal at the High Court, challenging the magistrate’s decision to deny him bail.
Mhlanga has been locked up in remand prison for close to two weeks on allegations of transmitting information that incites violence.
Mhlanga’s arrest followed interviews he allegedly conducted with Blessed Geza, a war veteran who is currently being sought by the police to answer to charges of incitement, undermining the authority of the President, and theft.
In denying Mhlanga bail, Magistrate Farai Gwitima ruled that the journalist was likely to interfere with witnesses who are his subordinates.
The magistrate also cited the potential for Mhlanga’s release to spark unrest in Zimbabwe.
Through his lawyer, Chris Mhike, Mhlanga has now appealed the magistrate’s decision at the High Court, arguing that Gwitima was wrong in denying him bail.
The journalist’s incarceration comes amid concerns over press freedom and the treatment of media practitioners in the country.
In a statement released on Friday, March 7, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) confirmed that an appeal for bail has been filed on behalf of Mhlanga at the High Court. ZLHR said:

Mhlanga Appeals Bail Denial At High Court

Two inmates escaped from Mutimurefu Prison in Masvingo on Wednesday and subsequently crashed a Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) vehicle that they had stolen.
In a statement, ZPCS spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Meya Khanyezi revealed that Feliciano Simango (also known as Fidelis Jorum Mauyangwe) was serving a three-year sentence for theft, while Never Matoma was serving 47 months for unlawful entry and theft.
The escapees reportedly took advantage of a supervised work assignment outside the prison facility. During this time, they unlawfully gained access to a ZPCS vehicle. 
However, they crashed the vehicle approximately 2.5 km from the site, rendering it inoperable. They then fled on foot.
Asst Comm Khanyezi confirmed that the incident is under investigation and added that security measures have been strengthened to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
She urged the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings or information that could assist in locating the escapees to the nearest police station or correctional facility.

Two inmates escaped from Mutimurefu Prison in Zimbabwe. One was serving time for theft and the other for unlawful entry and theft. They stole a vehicle from the prison and crashed it, then ran away. Police in Harare have arrested four suspects in connection with an armed robbery at the Meru Service Station in Kuwadzana on 3 March.
According to an H-Metro report, 47-year-old Hilary Hufa was attacked by seven armed robbers as he was about to leave the service station on High Glen Road.
Hufa had collected US$37,000 from the Mbare branch, US$45,000 from the Whitehouse branch, and an additional US$45,000 from the Kuwadzana branch at the time of the robbery.
In a statement issued on Friday, 7 March, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi clarified that the stolen cash amounted to US$129,111. Said Nyathi:

On 6th March 2025, detectives from CID Homicide Harare received information that one of the suspects involved in the robbery was in Chitungwiza.
The officers followed up on the lead and located Willard Zvinorukwa at number 5282, Unit O, Seke, Chitungwiza. Zvinorukwa attempted to flee, prompting the detectives to fire warning shots.
However, he continued to flee until the detectives shot him once on the right shin, leading to his arrest.
The Detectives interviewed Zvinorukwa, who implicated eight other suspects who include Ernest Manzunzu, Ashwin Mukondwa, and Bornface Masora. 
The Police followed up on the leads and arrested Ernest Manzunzu at number 17599 Kingsdale, Norton. Manzunzu was interviewed, he implicated several other suspects who are still at large.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Ashwin Mukondwa at his residence in Masona Village, Seke. 
Mukondwa also implicated several others and led the detectives to the arrest of Bornface Masora, who had an outstanding warrant of arrest for an armed robbery case in Karoi,
Police investigations revealed that the suspects shared the loot and received varying amounts of cash, ranging from US$4,000 to US$10,000, which they used to purchase goods and lend money to others. 
Recovered items include US$16,240 cash, a wardrobe, a kitchen unit, a television, kitchen utensils, and a cellphone.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that there is no going back in the fight against armed robbery cases in the country.
The crack teams set up by the Commissioner- General of Police are highly alert and will respond appropriately to reports of armed robbery.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police commends the public for providing information that led to the arrest of the suspects.

The Supreme Court has upheld the High Court’s decision to deny Mike Chimombe bail, dismissing his appeal.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that the Supreme Court found compelling reasons for his continued detention. 
These reasons included the risk of him absconding, the seriousness of the charges against him, and the likelihood he will interfere with witnesses. The NPA said:

On 6 March 2025, the Supreme Court dismissed Mike Chimombe’s bail appeal, upholding the High Court’s decision to deny him bail.
The court found that the state had established compelling reasons for his continued detention, including the likelihood of absconding, the seriousness of the charges and the risk of interfering with witnesses.
Chimombe has been at the centre of a high-profile fraud case involving allegations of misusing funds related to the Presidential goat-pass-on scheme.
Along with his co-accused, he was arrested in 2024 Chimombe was initially denied bail by the magistrate’s court in July 2024, with the court citing concerns that he was likely to abscond and interfere with witnesses.
He appealed this decision to the High Court, but the appeal was overtaken by events when he and his co-accused were indicted for trial at the High Court. 
In January 2025, Chimombe filed a further bail application at the High Court, which was also denied. The court reiterated the magistrate’s findings, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges and the risk of witness interference. 
Chimombe then took his case to the Supreme Court, arguing that the High Court erred by relying on the magistrate’s earlier findings instead of applying a fresh mind to his bail application. 
He maintained that the state failed to prove compelling reasons for his continued detention.

Supreme Court Dismisses Mike Chimombe’s Bail Application

A detective from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was shot dead around 9 PM on Thursday while police pursued armed robbers in Bulawayo’s Pumula South suburb.
Casandra Hove, a member of Bulawayo’s distinguished all-female police unit, Team Lozikeyi, sustained a gunshot wound to her upper body, resulting in her death.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the death of Constable Casandra Hove in a statement issued on Friday afternoon. He said:

A visibly unwell Mike Chimombe was dragged from a prison cell to appear in court on Monday after previously failing to attend his fraud trial at the High Court.
The businessman, who has been in remand prison since his arrest in June 2024, struggled to speak during his afternoon appearance before High Court Judge Pisirayi Kwenda, reported <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/drama-as-sickly-mike-chimombe-dragged-to-court/">ZimLive</a>.
Chimombe sat in the dock with his head bowed and his face covered during the brief appearance.
Justice Kwenda had insisted that Chimombe be physically present in court, despite prison officials confirming that he was unwell.
Chimombe’s condition has delayed the commencement of his trial alongside business partner Moses Mpofu.
His lawyer, Lovemore Madhuku, informed the court a week earlier that Chimombe required at least seven days to recover from his ailment. However, Chimombe failed to appear again, prompting the judge to demand his presence in court.
Justice Kwenda accused the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) of breaching his order to bring Chimombe to court on Monday.
The judge also criticised both the state and the defence for failing to inform him of Chimombe’s absence before the trial.
ZPCS subsequently brought Chimombe to court around 2 PM, where he informed the judge that he had nothing to say because he had already instructed his lawyers. The trial was then postponed to March 17.
Chimombe and Mpofu are accused of fraudulently acquiring a tender to supply goats under a government-run presidential goat pass-on scheme.

A 32-year-old woman, Adelight Ndlovu, from E70 Mine in Shangani, has avoided a custodial sentence after engaging in sexual activities with multiple men in front of her 12-year-old daughter.
Instead, a Bulawayo magistrate fined Ndlovu US$300 and sentenced her to 210 hours of community service at Shangani Police Station, starting on February 28.
As reported by <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/woman-who-romped-with-several-men-in-front-of-daughter-12-spared-jail/">ZimLive</a>, the court heard that on unspecified dates in 2024, Ndlovu engaged in sexual activities with multiple partners in the presence of her daughter.
During her initial appearance on February 25, Ndlovu pleaded guilty, claiming she was unaware that her daughter had witnessed the encounters.
However, during her second appearance on February 26, she denied the charges, asserting that any such incidents may have occurred in 2023, as she claimed her children were residing at a different location in 2024.
After further questioning, Ndlovu, who was not represented during her trial, eventually reaffirmed her guilty plea.
The National Prosecuting Authority requested a custodial sentence, arguing that the offence was serious and constituted a grave breach of parental responsibility.

Former police officer, Tafadzwa Chidawa, widely known as Detective Kedha, has been acquitted of theft charges.
Chidawa, now a private investigator, and his co-accused—Paradza Passmore Matubu, Perseverance Chisango, Malvern Mutanda, and Francis Takura—were all found not guilty on Wednesday.
Chief Magistrate Vongai Guwuriro delivered the verdict, citing inconsistencies in the complainant’s testimony as the main reason for the dismissal.
The court struggled to believe the allegations against Chidawa and his associates after the complainant, Melody Matanhire, admitted to fabricating parts of her story.
It was alleged that Matanhire, who was married, had an affair with Mutanda, who claimed to have US$100,000 in soiled money that needed to be “cleaned.”
He said the process required US$20,000 in clean bills to mix with the soiled money and chemicals, and the person providing the clean bills would earn a commission upon completion.
The court heard that on August 27, 2020, Matanhire told Mutanda she had secured the US$20,000 and went with him to Blue Ridge Lodge to “clean” the money.
She allegedly took the cash from her home in Gen Lorne, Harare, unaware that Mutanda had conspired with Chidawa, Takura, Matubu, and Chisango to steal it.
At the lodge, Mutanda asked for the US$20,000, which Matanhire handed over, and he placed it in a cooler box for the cleaning process.
It was alleged that moments later, Chidawa and his group, posing as police officers, entered the lodge, assaulted Mutanda, and pretended to arrest him.
One of the gang members is said to have taken the cooler box, while the others escorted Matanhire, later releasing her.
Mutanda and his accomplices allegedly shared the stolen US$20,000. The crime was uncovered when Matanhire staged a robbery to cover up the loss to her husband.
Detectives from CID Homicide arrested Mutanda, leading to the recovery of property he had purchased with the stolen money.
However, in her ruling, Chief Magistrate Muchuchuti Guwuriro pointed out that Matanhire’s admission of lying to her husband about the robbery cast doubt on the credibility of the entire case. She stated:

After her admission that she lied to her husband, it was hard for the court to believe if anything of that nature ever occurred.

The inconsistencies in Matanhire’s testimony ultimately led to the acquittal of Detective Kedha and his co-accused.

Former police officer Detective Kedha and his friends were accused of stealing $20,000. But they were all found not guilty because the person who said they stole the money admitted she lied about some things. The lady who claimed her money was stolen actually gave it to one of the men to clean, but then the others pretended to be police and took the money. The lady lied to her husband to cover up the loss. Since she lied, the court didn't believe her and let Detective Kedha and his friends go free.

Police arrested eight suspects in connection with the unlawful possession of dagga, crystal meth, and unregistered medicines in Harare and Beitbridge between March 2 and March 4, 2025.

Nyathi issued a stern warning to individuals and groups involved in drug trafficking and peddling, saying the law would be enforced without fear or favour.

Eight people were arrested for having drugs in Harare and Beitbridge. They had dagga, crystal meth, and unregistered medicines. The police found 151 kilograms of dagga and 260 bottles of Broncleer Syrup. The suspects are facing consequences for their actions, with the police warning others involved in drug trafficking. The law will be enforced on anyone who breaks it.

Eight Arrested In Drug Bust Across Harare And Beitbridge

<h2>THE ZRP EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER CASES OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN THE COUNTRY</h2>
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned with cases of sexual abuse and rape involving minors across the country.
In most cases, these heinous crimes are being perpetrated by individuals entrusted with the care, safety and protection of these vulnerable children.
These include parents, brothers, nephews, guardians and other relatives. In some instances, strangers waylay the minors on the way to school and back, while some criminals lure the minors by offering sweets, money, drinks and lifts.
Additionally, there have been disturbing reports of young girls being sexually abused by landlords and individuals with whom they share accommodation, especially in urban setups. In some cases, prophets lure minors through parents or guardians on the pretext they want to assist them.
It is disturbing to note that some of these perpetrators are people who are expected to provide a safe and nurturing environment for these children.
Instead, they are exploiting and abusing the trust placed in them. In some cases, the parents will be at the forefront in either assisting the perpetrators or concealing the offences.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns parents and relatives who sweep these cases of sexual abuse under the carpet that they risk being arrested for defeating or obstructing the course of justice.
In one of the cases, a five-year-old girl was sexually abused by an unknown suspect while coming from school in a bushy area near Bravoland Mine Compound in Mberengwa on 25th February 2025.
In another case of rape which occurred in Mutawatawa, Murewa, a 13- year-old female juvenile was sexually abused by her 36-year-old uncle after she had gone to collect food in the kitchen in September 2024. The case was reported to the police on 26th February 2025.
Similarly, on 26th February 2025, Lusulu Police Station recorded another case of sexual abuse in which a 14-year-old female juvenile was sexually abused by her uncle from February 2024 to November 2024. The victim had tried to report the case to the suspect’s brother.
However, the other victim’s uncle only reprimanded the suspect not to do it again. The offence came to light after the complainant began to complain of stomach pains.
Members of the public are implored to come forward and join hands with the Police in the fight against child sexual abuse.
Traditional leaders and the church are implored to partner with the Zimbabwe Republic Police in the ongoing awareness campaigns against rape and child sexual abuse in the country.
The Police urges members of the public to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect children from sexual abuse.
Suspected cases of child sexual abuse should be reported to the nearest police station or on National Complaints Desk number, (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp 0712 800 197.

ZRP Concerned Over Cases Of Sexual Abuse And Rape Involving Minors [Full Statement]

Armed robbers allegedly seized US$127,000 on Monday, which had been collected from three fuel service stations in Harare.
Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Harare Province, confirmed the robbery to <a href="https://www.heraldonline.co.zw/armed-robbers-steal-us127k-from-service-stations/">H-Metro</a> and said that investigations are underway.
It is alleged that 47-year-old Hilary Hufa was attacked by seven armed robbers as he was about to leave Meru Service Station on High Glen Road.
Hufa had collected US$37,000 from the Mbare branch, US$45,000 from the Whitehouse branch, and another US$45,000 from the Kuwadzana branch.

A man named Hilary Hufa was robbed of US$127,000 while leaving a fuel station in Harare. He had collected the money from three different fuel stations. The police are investigating the robbery, which involved seven armed robbers. The spokesperson for the police confirmed the incident. Hufa was attacked by the robbers as he was leaving Meru Service Station. The money he collected was from the Mbare, Whitehouse, and Kuwadzana branches. The robbers took all the money he had collected.

Meru Employee Robbed Of US$127,000 After Collecting Cash From Fuel Stations

Chegutu Magistrate Evelyn Mashawakure has acquitted former Information Minister Bright Matonga, who was arrested on June 25, 2024, for allegedly stealing farming implements worth approximately US$500,000.
Mashawakure ruled that the matter was a civil dispute arising from a breach of a joint venture agreement and said that there was no evidence to support the claim that Matonga committed the alleged offence.
Matonga was accused of stealing farming equipment from his business partner, Van Breda.
The former Deputy Information Minister has a history of controversy. In 2016, he was blamed for the decline of Chigwell Estate in Chegutu, which had previously supported the livelihoods of about 500 people and contributed $4 million annually to Zimbabwe’s revenue through exports.
In July 2020, Matonga was listed as a beneficiary in the controversial Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s Farm Mechanisation Scheme, part of the Fast Track Land Reform Programme.
He was included under the “Politicians” group and received goods worth US$359,420.00, according to the list published on July 18, 2020. 
The beneficiaries of the programme never repaid the money, and instead, the debt was shifted onto taxpayers.

Former Information Minister Bright Matonga was acquitted of stealing farming equipment worth $500,000. The court ruled it was a civil dispute, not a crime. Matonga was accused by his business partner of stealing the equipment. Matonga has a history of controversy, including being blamed for a decline in an estate that supported many people. He was also listed as a beneficiary in a controversial farm scheme that shifted debt to taxpayers.

Bright Matonga Acquitted Of Alleged US$500,000 Farming Equipment Theft

A pastor from Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West Province, is accused of duping an elderly woman out of her residential stand worth thousands of dollars.
As reported by <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/chinhoyi-pastor-steals-from-congregant/">The Herald</a>, Pastor Desmond Parirehwa, 38, who leads Deliverance and Solutions Church, allegedly took advantage of 79-year-old Elizabeth Fadhuka, stealing her stand valued at $25,000.
Fadhuka allegedly gave Parirehwa the documents for her property when she travelled to the United Kingdom, asking him to keep them safe and later pass them on to her family.
In 2010, Parirehwa is said to have become friends with Fadhuka while she was grieving the loss of her two sons and offered her counselling services.
In 2012, when Fadhuka fell ill, she travelled to the UK for treatment and left the documents for her Mzari property with Parirehwa for safekeeping.
However, six years later, when Fadhuka’s daughter, Misitia Marsh, asked Parirehwa to return the documents, he refused and became uncooperative.
In 2020, Parirehwa took over the stand, built structures on it without Fadhuka’s permission, and registered it in his own name.
After unsuccessful attempts to recover the stand, Fadhuka reported the matter to the police, leading to Parirehwa’s arrest.
He was granted $200 bail and will appear in court again on March 13.

A pastor named Desmond Parirehwa is accused of tricking an old woman named Elizabeth Fadhuka and stealing her land. Fadhuka gave Parirehwa the papers for her land while she was away, but he never gave them back. Instead, he claimed her land as his own, even building things on it without her permission. Fadhuka's daughter tried to get the papers back, but Parirehwa wouldn't cooperate. Finally, Fadhuka went to the police and Parirehwa was arrested. Now he has to go to court on March 13.

Pastor Steals Elderly Woman's US$25,000 Residential Stand

A 26-year-old man from Shurugwi has been confined to remand prison after allegedly insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa by calling him a dog.
As reported by <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/shurugwi-man-in-court-for-calling-mnangagwa-a-dog/">The Mirror</a>, Tinashe Chigiya (26), from Makandire Village, Chief Nhema, Shurugwi, appeared before Magistrate Sithabile Zungula, who remanded him in custody to a later date for the continuation of his trial.
Prosecutor Kwanele Njini alleged that on January 27, 2025, at Musavezi River, Chigiya called Mnangagwa a dog after a minor drowned in the river.
Chigiya reportedly blamed Mnangagwa and ZANU PF supporters for permitting Chinese nationals to extract sand from the river.
He allegedly claimed the river had become unsafe for children and the water was contaminated due to their activities.
Chigiya is also accused of punching and head-butting Shurugwi ZANU PF Ward 8 Councillor Audreck Mhaka, whom he allegedly accused of being incompetent.

A man called Mnangagwa a dog and got arrested. He blamed him for a child's death in a river. He said Chinese people were responsible for making the river unsafe. The man also punched a ZANU PF councillor. He thought the councillor was incompetent. The man is now in prison waiting for his trial to continue.

Shurugwi Man Arrested After Allegedly Calling Mnangagwa A Dog And Punching ZANU PF Councillor

Simbarashe Gurajena (54) from Mpopoma, Bulawayo, was fined US$120 for insulting police officers at Pumula Police Station after accusing them of not doing enough to locate his missing son.
Gurajena pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in a public place and was sentenced by Western Commonage magistrate Mehluli Moyo.
He received a four-month prison sentence, with two months suspended for three years, provided he didn’t commit a similar offence.
The remaining two months were suspended on the condition that he pay the US$120 fine by 30 March.
In passing the sentence, Moyo considered Gurajena’s age and the stress of his missing child but stressed the importance of discouraging violent behaviour. Said the magistrate, as quoted by the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/bedlam-at-police-station-bulawayo-man-fined-120-for-insulting-police-officers-over-missing-son-case/">Chronicle</a>:

The court wants to send a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in the community. This sentence serves as a deterrent to both the accused and others who may engage in similar offences.
</blockquote>
Prosecutor Ellen Matenga said the offence took place on 11 January 2025 at Pumula Police Station when Gurajena angrily banged on the crime office door and shouted at the police officers. She said:

Gurajena was shouting at the police in Shona, saying, “Mapurisa imi munongohora mari dzatinokutambirisai mahara, hamusi kuda kutsvaga mwana wangu, ibasa renyu,” which translates to, “You police officers are getting paid for nothing from our tax money, yet you do not want to look for my son when it is your duty”.
</blockquote>
According to Matenga, Gurajena went on to insult Assistant Inspector Ngwenya, accusing him in a mix of Shona and English: “Iwewe ndiwe unotengesera vana vedu madrugs, that’s why you don’t want to open a report,” meaning, “You are the one selling drugs to our children, that’s why you refuse to open reports.”
In his defence, Gurajena explained that he was stressed because he had reported his missing son but had not received any response from the police.

A man in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, was fined US$120 for accusing a top cop of selling drugs and not looking for his missing son. The man pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to a four-month prison term, with two months suspended. He has to pay the fine by March 30. The magistrate considered his stress but emphasized that violence is not allowed. The man insulted the police officers at the station, accusing them of not doing their job. The prosecutor said the man was angry and shouted at the officers.

Bulawayo Man Fined US$120 For Accusing Top Cop Of Selling Illegal Drugs To Youths

A 42-year-old woman from Zimunya, Patricia Mukonyerwa, was sentenced to 12 months in jail on Tuesday after being convicted of physically abusing her brother-in-law.
According to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/12-months-for-pulling-brother-in-laws-privates/">The Manica Post</a>, Mukonyerwa, of Shiridzinomwa Village under Chief Zimunya, was sentenced by Mutare Magistrate Lawrence Mubvumbi for contravening the Domestic Violence Act after she pulled her brother-in-law’s privates.
Four months of her sentence were suspended for good behaviour, and the remaining eight months were suspended on the condition she completes 205 hours of community service at Murare Primary School in Zimunya.
The prosecutor told the court that the incident occurred on February 20 when Mukonyerwa confronted Edmore Mwoyowehama, who was in his nephew’s kitchen holding a machete.
The altercation was sparked by a dispute over property belonging to her husband, which Mwoyowehama was reportedly in possession of. Said the prosecutor:

Upon arrival, Mukonyerwa demanded the property which was left by her husband under the care of Mwoyowehama. He told her that he did not have that property at his house.
This provoked Mukonyerwa, and a misunderstanding ensued between the two. Mukonyerwa tried to grab the machete Mwoyowehama was holding but failed.

Mukonyerwa grabbed her brother-in-law’s privates, but he wriggled free and escaped before reporting the incident at ZRP Zimunya Post, leading to her arrest.
The court heard that Mwoyowehama sustained a cut on his right-hand finger and pain to his privates, though he was not medically examined.
In sentencing her, Mubvumbi said Mukonyerwa acted unlawfully by grabbing her brother-in-law’s privates, knowing there was a real risk of causing harm.

A woman named Patricia Mukonyerwa grabbed her brother-in-law's privates during an argument over property. She was sentenced to 12 months in jail, but 4 months were suspended for good behavior. She must also do community service. The brother-in-law got hurt and reported her to the police. The court said she acted unlawfully and could have caused harm. Woman Who Grabbed Male Relative's Privates Avoids Jail Sentence

Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) journalist Blessed Mhlanga is set to appeal the denial of his bail by Harare Magistrate Farai Gwitima, who remanded him in custody to 14 March 2025, reported <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/lawyers-set-to-appeal-mhlangas-bail-denial/">ZimLive</a>.
Mhlanga faces charges of transmitting information that incites violence or causes damage to property, stemming from interviews he conducted with Blessed Geza, a war veteran and outspoken critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Geza, who is currently in hiding, is facing multiple charges, including theft, undermining the authority of or insulting the president, and incitement to commit public violence.
On Friday, Gwitima rejected Mhlanga’s bail application, citing concerns that the journalist was likely to reoffend and interfere with witnesses, including his colleagues at AMH.
The magistrate also warned that releasing Mhlanga could lead to civil unrest and jeopardise peace in Zimbabwe. She said:

What is an issue is not that the applicant gathered and disseminated information. It is that information which he gathered which was intended to incite public violence.
If granted bail, he is likely to interfere. Of critical importance some of the witnesses have not been recorded hence his release will jeopardize investigations.
What clearly emerges is that disseminated messages will incite violence. Any interpretation to the contrary will be incorrect.
Accordingly, the release of the accused will put the nation in unrest and undermine peace and security.
In the circumstances, it is the court’s finding that the state has managed to give compelling reasons justifying the continued detention of the accused person. Accordingly, bail is denied.

Mhlanga’s lawyer, Chris Mhike said they are not happy with the ruling and will file an appeal at the High Court. Said Mhike:

We had really hoped for a positive outcome. While we accept the decision, we must make it clear that we strongly disagree with the conclusion and the determination made by the court.
Accordingly, we have been instructed to appeal this decision as soon as possible.

The United States Embassy in Zimbabwe condemned the arrest and denial of bail of Mhlanga, urging Harare authorities to uphold the fundamental right to press freedom.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, the U.S. Embassy said that all journalists should be granted constitutional protections, including the right to bail and freedom of speech.

Mhlanga Set To Appeal Bail Denial Over Incitement Charges

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi has reportedly instructed courts not to release journalist Blessed Mhlanga until after 31 March, according to award-winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono.
If Mhlanga, a senior journalist at Alpha Media Holdings (AMH), is denied bail until April, he will have spent over a month in pre-trial detention. Chin’ono wrote on X:

The Zimbabwean journalist Blessed Mhlanga, who has been in political detention since Monday, did not commit the crime he is accused of, and the owner of HSTV, where Blessed works, confirms this.
Trevor Ncube says Blessed did not say a word in the said material transmitted and adds that Blessed is neither HSTV, which broadcast the material, nor AMH, the parent company of HSTV.
Mnangagwa’s regime is run by cowards from top to bottom, who targeted Blessed as a soft target.
We now also know that Mnangagwa’s Justice Minister, Ziyambe Ziyambe, instructed the courts not to release Blessed until after 31 March. What a bunch of cowards!

Mhlanga was arrested on Monday for allegedly sharing information that could incite violence or damage property. He is facing charges under Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

Chin'ono Claims Ziyambi Instructed Courts To Deny Mhlanga Bail Until April

ZANU PF Secretary for Legal Affairs, Patrick Chinamasa’s brand-new Mazda BT-50 double cab, which was stolen from his farm in Headlands, Manicaland Province, has been recovered.
The vehicle was found abandoned in Murehwa, Mashonaland East Province, and is now in police custody.
Chinamasa’s wife, Monica, told <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/new-relief-for-chinamasas-as-stolen-vehicle-is-found/">The Manica Post</a>, she was glad the car had been recovered. She said:

The theft occurred on February 9, 2025. Four armed robbers pounced on the Chinamasas’ Tsukumai Farm in Headlands.
They overpowered the security guard and farm manager. The robbers then stole the Mazda BT-50, a gun, kitchen knives, and groceries.
Chinamasa and his wife were not at the farm during the attack.

Five armed robbers reportedly pounced on a company in Workington, Harare, on Thursday, making off with US$120,400 in cash.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the suspects attacked a security guard on duty before entering the offices and stealing the money.
The police have not revealed the name of the company involved, only saying it is located along Lytton Road. The ZRP said:

Five unknown suspects attacked a security guard who was on duty at the company before gaining entry into the offices where they stole USD 120 400.00 cash.

In a separate incident in Harare, a 45-year-old woman and her son were robbed on Wednesday at their home in Phase 9, Eastview.
The robbers took their cellphones, a Silver Nissan Note vehicle, and US$13,000 in cash. Police have also urged anyone with information to report it to the nearest police station.

US$120,400 Stolen From Company On Lytton Road - ZRP

Petros Chiropa, a self-proclaimed traditional healer from Matondo Village in Chigodora, was sentenced to 54 months in prison for stealing US$20,100 from Assistant Commissioner Florence Marume of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
Chiropa was also ordered to repay US$8,100 to Marume, the remaining balance of the stolen amount.
He was charged with theft and money laundering and appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Annie Ndiraya.
The accused initially faced bail but later violated his conditions and was re-arrested. Despite pleading not guilty, he was convicted due to strong evidence. 
Chiropa had argued that he was a wealthy healer and that the charges were false, claiming he only knew Marume and her domestic worker, Precious Nyasha Manyawu, through a church.
However, it was revealed in court that Chiropa and Manyawu had a romantic relationship and conspired to steal the money.
Court evidence also showed that Chiropa had spent the stolen money on luxury items, including a Toyota Runx, beds, wardrobes, and a large TV.
Manyawu, who was involved in the theft, is serving time in Mutare Remand Prison. Chiropa claimed to be not only a traditional healer but also a truck driver and businessman.
Prosecutor Tafadzwa Zulu told the court that Manyawu was entrusted with the money by Assistant Commissioner Marume for safekeeping. Added Zulu:

An investigation was launched, and it was discovered that Chiropa had taken the money and converted it to his own use, with Manyawu’s assistance.

N'anga Steals US$20 000 From Top Cop

A Harare magistrate has sentenced 27-year-old Latvian national, Vitalis Kudrjasovs, to 15 years in prison for attempting to smuggle 8.35kg of heroin through Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
On September 22, 2022, Kudrjasovs checked in for his flight to India with Ethiopian Airlines, completed the necessary customs procedures, and submitted his luggage for clearance.
However, airport security flagged his bags after suspicious contents were detected during a routine scan.
Upon further inspection, four packages of heroin were discovered hidden in compartments within his two bags.
In addition to the 15-year prison sentence, Kudrjasovs was fined US$5,000. If he fails to pay the fine, he will face an additional 5 years in prison.

A man from Latvia named Vitalis Kudrjasovs tried to bring drugs into Zimbabwe. He hid heroin in his bags while traveling to India. Airport security found the drugs and he was arrested. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined $5,000. If he doesn't pay the fine, he will have to spend 5 more years in jail. It is illegal to smuggle drugs and he got caught breaking the law.
