A 24-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for robbing a family in Harare’s Eastview, Phase 15, Mabvuku.
The suspect, Bright Chikomo, reportedly attacked a couple in their home, stealing US$30 in cash, two cellphones, and a blanket.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest, and the second suspect, identified only as “Digital,” is still on the run. Police said:

On 28/11/24, Police in Harare arrested Bright Chikomo (24) in connection with a case of robbery which occurred at a house in Eastview, Phase 15, Mabvuku where a couple was attacked before USD 30.00 cash, two cellphones and a blanket were stolen.
The suspect was positively identified by the wife during the robbery, leading to his arrest. The arrest led to the recovery of a knife which was in the pocket of the suspect’s trousers.
The other suspect, only identified as Digital, is on the run. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.

In a separate robbery incident, three armed suspects attacked a family at a residence along Cecil Road in Greendale, Harare, on Thursday.
The suspects, who remain unidentified, assaulted the family and made off with US$12,200 in cash, laptops, cellphones, and a Digital Video Recorder (DVR).

24-Year-Old Man Arrested For Robbing Harare Family Of US$30

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has withdrawn murder charges against two Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) leaders, Obert Masaraure (President) and Robson Chere (Secretary-General), who were accused of assaulting and murdering their colleague, Roy Issa, eight years ago.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) Masaraure and Chere had been charged with the murder of Roy Issa, allegedly occurring on June 11, 2016, during a drinking session in Harare.
The two, along with four accomplices, were accused of assaulting Issa, leading to his death. Prosecutors claimed they later attempted to cover up the crime by falsely stating that Issa fell from a hotel balcony.
Issa’s body, prosecutors said, was found lying some six metres away from Jameson Hotel along Park Street in Harare.
The NPA informed Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi that law enforcement officers had been investigating the case for eight years, but could not yet proceed with charges. This delay led to the withdrawal of charges against both men.
Masaraure and Chere had been appearing in court since 2022 after their arrests by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP). They were out on bail during the court proceedings.
The two union leaders were represented by prominent lawyers Doug Coltart and Beatrice Mtetwa from Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.
Prosecutors acknowledged that continuing to hold Masaraure on remand and requiring him to appear in court while investigations were still ongoing was no longer justifiable.
They made a similar concession earlier when charges were withdrawn against Chere in October 2024.
On November 27, 2024, prosecutors withdrew murder charges against Masaraure.

NPA Withdraws Murder Charges Against ARTUZ Leaders After Eight-Year Investigation

Headman Kandira of Norton is facing serious allegations of raping a 17-year-old girl, only identified only as Thelma, and subjecting her and her 15-year-old brother, Felix, to other forms of child abuse.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/traditional-leader-faces-allegations-of-sexual-abuse-and-child-exploitation/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>, Felix revealed that his sister was sexually abused by Kandira, resulting in her pregnancy and a subsequent HIV positive diagnosis.
He further claimed that the abuse began shortly after their aunt left for South Africa in September 2024, when Kandira reportedly started forcing himself on Thelma. Said Felix:

When Kandira returned from dropping my aunt off at the bus stop, he called my sister into his room and locked the door.
My sister then came out and informed me that he had slept with her and was fondling her. I didn’t do anything because I thought she was lying; she didn’t know anything.
On the second day, she told me again that he had made her sleep with him, and I advised her to take a phone, next time to record the conversations.
Then on day three, I saw it myself when he entered the toilet where she was and forced himself on her. I suggested that we should inform the elders about the matter.

Felix alleged that Kandira chased him from his homestead, released dogs to attack him, and threatened him with axes after he confronted him about the abuse of his sister.
The minor boy later sought help from local leaders and the police. He said:

When Kandira found out that I knew about the matter, he chased me away from his house and told me to go to my mother.
I told him she lived far away and that I didn’t have the money to go. He then chased me away threatening to axe me.
He also unleashed dogs and I fled the house that evening, running for my life and sleeping in the bush.
I woke up and headed to Headman Manene, where I told him everything, then went on to inform Mai Matwe, who then told Thelma’s teacher.
The teacher recorded audio on her phone while Thelma narrated the whole ordeal, and after that, the matter was taken to other local Chiefs.
I then went to Mai Fayi’s home, where she kept me for two days. After that, I went to someone else’s house, and we went to the police station where I recorded my statement and told them everything.

Felix later met friends who told him Kandira was searching for him. He fled to Shoko’s shop, where he overheard that a friend was arrested for allegedly causing Thelma’s pregnancy. He said:

I met with my friends while I had been left in a police van and they told me Kandira had been looking for me the whole night with torches and machetes. I made a run for it and went to Mr Shoko’s shop to seek refuge.
While I was there, I overheard people saying my friend Ngoni had been arrested for impregnating my sister, I then left and returned to the woman who had helped me go to the police the first time.
I told her that Ngoni shouldn’t be arrested because the person who was sleeping with Thelma was Kandira. She then called the police again, confirming that I had been found.

Chief Ngorima told NewZimbabwe.com that police have since confirmed that Thelma is pregnant and tested positive for HIV. He said:

We were summoned by the Norton Rural Police, who informed us about the matter. They said the girl gave them her statement and explained everything that happened, including the fondling and the subsequent sexual intercourse.
Police also investigated by taking her to Norton Hospital to see if she was still a virgin, but they discovered that she was already pregnant. They conducted an HIV test, and she was found to be positive.

Chief Netain Chibanda revealed that Headman Kandira has been brought before the courts and subsequently released into the custody of his lawyer.
Headman Manene expressed concern that the victim was still living at the accused’s homestead, where Kandira allegedly threatened her with death if she revealed his role in her pregnancy.
Village health worker Julianna Manhenhe said Thelma’s school fees are being covered by a donor who has also committed to support her expenses until she completes Form 4.

Police in Norton are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of Annie Fernando (41) who is being sought in connection with a case of infanticide.
The suspect allegedly gave birth to a baby boy on 23/11/24 at Malham Farm, Mhondoro and later threw the baby in a blair toilet.
Police have since retrieved the body from the toilet and was taken to a mortuary at a hospital in Norton.

Woman (41) On The Run After Throwing Newborn Baby Into A Blair Toilet

A 33-year-old Zimbabwean man, Joachim Chivayo, and 20-year-old South African citizen Ayanda Brian Gungwa were arrested in South Africa on Tuesday for the unlawful possession of gold worth R15 million.
Joachim is the young brother of controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo.
As reported by <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-and-courts/hawks-arrest-zim-and-south-african-men-for-possession-of-r15-million-gold-bars-seize-mercedes-benz-suv-b2653576-97d0-4aec-9e40-45993a15a28e">IOL</a>, the two men appeared in court following their arrest by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, commonly known as the Hawks, in Brakpan.
Gauteng Hawks spokesperson, Captain Lloyd Ramovha, confirmed that the duo was found in possession of six bars of unwrought gold. Said Ramovha:

The Gauteng Hawks’ serious organised crime investigation team, in collaboration with their head office counterparts, achieved a significant breakthrough in their fight against illegal precious metal trading by arresting the two suspects involved in the unlawful possession of gold.
On Tuesday, at approximately 1:15 PM, the dedicated team executed a meticulously planned operation, leading to the successful arrests of the suspects.

Ramovha said Chivayo and Gungwa were arrested as they were attempting to find a buyer for the minerals. He said:

The seized gold, valued at approximately R15 million, underscores the gravity of the crime.

Captain Ramovha also said that law enforcement agents seized a Mercedes Benz SUV during the arrest of Chivayo and Gungwa.
The two men have been charged with illegal possession of gold and violating the Precious Metals Act. The case has been registered at the Brakpan police station.
Both suspects made their first court appearance on Wednesday and were remanded in custody.

Ngundu Money Transfer Outlet Robbed Of US$46 000 And Nearly R1 Million

ZANU PF MP Wiriranai Muchemwa (43) and Ward 15 councillor Knowledge Chipindu (40) appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court on Tuesday on allegations of misappropriating US$12,000 donated as mealie meal to the community by a Chinese mining firm.
As reported by <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/new-mp-councillor-arrested-for-theft-of-us12-000-donation">The Sunday Mail</a>, the two were not asked to plead to the charges when they appeared before Magistrate Tildah Mazhande and were charged with theft. They were remanded in custody to Wednesday for a bail application.
Muchemwa, the MP for Uzumba, and Chipindu are accused of stealing from Black Cube Mining Company, represented by Wang Qun, the company’s human resources manager.
Prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti alleges that on April 10, 2024, Wang Qun received a WhatsApp message from Muchemwa requesting US$12,000, which he claimed was for a revolving fund for constituency infrastructure development from April 2024 to April 2025.
Muchemwa claimed that the money would be directed towards constituency infrastructure development.
A meeting was held, attended by Chipindu, Tinashe Choto, Xu Maowen, Tinotenda Mutizwa from Yang Sheng, and Trish Maunganidze, the General Manager for Inducorn.
During the meeting, Wang Qun and another mining company, Yang Sheng, agreed to donate mealie meal, while Inducorn opted to donate US$4,000.
The mealie meal was intended to be donated at a Presidential address at Nhakiwa Business Centre, Murewa.
The Chinese companies approached Paguyo Millers, which offers milling and transportation services, and purchased 50 tonnes of maize to produce 40 tonnes of mealie meal.
According to the State, Paguyo Millers released 20 tonnes of mealie meal, which was taken to Murehwa Milling Company, specializing in selling, packaging, and milling maize.
Allegations are that Chipindu facilitated the sale of the mealie meal, which never reached the intended beneficiaries.

The Chinese company had agreed to donate mealie meal and another company had also donated money. The mealie meal was supposed to be given out at an event, but it never reached the people. Chipindu was said to have helped in selling the mealie meal.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has identified the suspects in a viral video showing the brutal assault of two minors in the Madziwa area of Mashonaland Central Province.
ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests of Theresa Kavhuta (53), Sabina Mucherahowa (37), Bridget Tshuma (28), and Leopold Tom (30) in connection with the incident.
He also revealed that the assault, involving two minors aged 8 and 11, occurred on November 20, 2024, at Muchenje Village, Mutumba, Madziwa. Said Commissioner Nyathi:

In the video, the man orders two boys to remove their shorts before mercilessly assaulting them on their buttocks with a log. Despite the boys’ pleas for mercy, he continues to strike them as they writhe in pain on the ground.
At one point, a visibly pregnant woman rushes in with a switch, intending to join the assault, but she is restrained by onlookers.
What is particularly troubling is that several witnesses at the homestead did nothing to intervene during the brutal attack. Instead, some can be heard in the background cheering and laughing.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Nyathi did not reveal the relationship between the assailants and the victims, neither did he explain what may have prompted the assault.

ZRP Arrests Four Suspects In Viral Video Of Brutal Assault On Minors In Madziwa

A 16-year-old mother and her mother, Evelyn Zisengwe, allegedly conspired to sell the newborn baby for US$180 to a woman called Dion Tore, whom they had met in a WhatsApp group, for adoption.
As reported by <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/newly-born-baby-sold-for-us180-recorded-as-dead-at-birth-in-chilling-case-of-illegal-adoption/">H-Metro</a>, the teen mother’s name has been withheld, although she used the alias Nobuhle Sibanda during the illicit transaction.
The three have since been arrested and appeared in court on Monday to face human trafficking charges. They were remanded in custody to Thursday for bail considerations.
It is alleged that in January 2024, the trio planned to traffic Sibanda’s nine-month-old baby through unlawful adoption.
Zisengwe reportedly informed Tore that her daughter was pregnant but intended to abort the child. Tore, who claimed to have experienced persistent miscarriages, expressed a desire to adopt the baby.
According to court documents, Zisengwe contacted Sibanda, who was pregnant at the time, and they arranged to meet on February 22. T
ore allegedly facilitated a scan of the unborn child, confirming it was a baby girl and that the pregnancy was seven months and three weeks along.
They then went to Sally Mugabe Hospital, where they colluded with an unidentified nurse to arrange a premature delivery. Tore provided false personal details to Harare Hospital officials, pretending to be the expectant mother.
Sibanda delivered the baby prematurely on February 25 and handed her over to Tore on March 5 at Harare Hospital.
Subsequently, Tore created a fake death record, claiming that Sibanda had given birth but that the child had passed away.
Between May and August, Zisengwe reportedly received a total of US$180 from Tore, with the payments sent via Ecocash. The trio was arrested following a tip-off to the police in Murehwa.

A 20-year-old man from the Chief Chitsa area in Gutu was arrested after raping a 65-year-old woman at her homestead.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident occurred on September 27, 2024, when Emanuel Mahachi broke a window to gain entry into the complainant’s home in the Chief Chitsunge area of Buhera.
Upon entering, Mahachi confronted the elderly woman, who screamed for help, but no one responded to her cries. He forcibly grabbed her neck and commanded her to comply with his orders, and raped her.
After the assault, Mahachi fell asleep, providing the victim with a crucial opportunity. She managed to alert her neighbours about the intruder in her home and the horrific act he had committed. This led to Mahachi’s arrest.
Following the incident, Mahachi was brought before the Rusape Magistrates’ Court, where he was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his crime.

A 30-year-old Bulawayo car dealer-cum socialite, Brighton Chipunza, also known as “Dash,” was set to appear in court on Tuesday morning in connection with the theft of a South African registered Toyota Fortuner.
The vehicle was stolen from a car wash in Bulawayo’s Central Business District (CBD) last week.
According to documents gleaned by the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/flashy-bulawayo-car-dealer-arrested-for-stealing-luxury-vehicle-from-car-wash/">Chronicle</a>, Chipunza was implicated in the crime after his WhatsApp chats with the supposed buyer and his accomplice in Harare were discovered.
The vehicle was recovered from a suspected accomplice, Julius Chitubhu, in Harare, with the help of a vehicle tracking company and police detectives.
Chitubhu has appeared in court and was remanded out of custody to December 11 on ZiG10,000 bail for the commencement of trial.
Chipunza’s case was delayed as the State and his defence failed to agree on interviewing the investigating officer.
It is alleged that on November 18 at 10 AM, Silibaziso Ncube assigned her employee, Jonathan Ngando Thuli, to take the vehicle to the Tunnel car wash for cleaning. Read the document:

At around 4 PM on the same day, Ncube went to the car wash to collect her vehicle and was shocked to find it missing.

Bulawayo Car Dealer Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Luxury Vehicle From Car Wash

The Masvingo High Court on Tuesday, November 26, delivered a default judgment in favour of Patrick Cheza, the losing Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate for the Chirumhanzu parliamentary constituency in the 2023 general elections, and four other party members.
The CCC activists were arrested in September 2023 for allegedly assaulting the ZANU PF candidate, Barbra Rwodzi, who won the seat.
Cheza was charged with inciting public violence, while Elias Maduveko, Magmaster Chidyawuye, Delight Zinyemba and Courage Mugova were facing public violence charges.
According to <a href="https://x.com/ChangeRadioZW/status/1861343790948053301">Change Radio</a>, Justice Sensley Zisengwe dismissed the case due to the absence of key filings from the Prosecutor General and Gweru Presiding Magistrate Beaulity Dube.
Cheza had been facing allegations related to a traffic incident on August 24, 2023, involving George Chengeta Rwodzi, Barbra Rwodzi’s son.
The incident involved a minor accident between Cheza’s driver and Rwodzi’s vehicle. Upon arriving at the scene, Cheza found Barbra Rwodzi already there.
It was alleged that Cheza instigated his supporters to assault Rwodzi.
In court, it was stated that Chidyawuye intentionally tripped the government minister and attempted to stab her in the face with a knife.
Prosecutors claimed that while she was on the ground, other CCC supporters joined in, indiscriminately kicking her multiple times.
Cheza was represented by human rights lawyers Esau Mandipa and Leopold Mudisi and was accompanied by his wife during the proceedings.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on November 25, 2024, a police crack team in Bulawayo received a tip-off linking the suspects to the robbery cases.
The suspects were tracked and spotted at their hideout in Luveve, Bulawayo, where they fired at detectives, leading to a shootout.
The detectives disarmed and arrested the suspects, leading to the recovery of a 9 mm FN Browning Pistol with three live rounds and eight empty cartridges. Reads the statement:

The vehicle was recovered at a railway crossing in Spitzkop, Gwanda.
Meanwhile, the Police is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the outstanding suspect, Elvis Charakupa (41) whose known address is 96/7878 Mpopoma Bulawayo.

Three Armed Robbers, Aged 22, 19, And 18 Exchange Fire With Detectives

Businessman Shingi Munyeza lost US$4,930 in a deal to buy chrome that went sour after a dealer, who posed as an agent for ZimAlloys, turned out to be a con artist.
According to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/munyeza-counting-his-losses-in-botched-chrome-deal/">H-Metro</a>, Simbarashe Elvis Kariwo, the man Munyeza claims deceived him, appeared in court on Saturday and was remanded in custody for bail considerations.
The case has been postponed to Friday.
The court heard that on June 10, at Samatsatsa Complex in Harare, Kariwo allegedly misrepresented himself as an agent of ZimAlloys, claiming to be in the business of selling chrome.
Kariwo then took Munyeza to Sutton Mine in Mutorashanga, introducing him to supposed “mine managers.”
Munyeza, believing Kariwo’s claims, gave him US$4,930 for the chrome deal.
Kariwo did not supply the chrome as promised. Munyeza later followed up with the mine and discovered that Kariwo was not their agent.
Munyeza then filed a police report upon realising he had been duped.
In court, Polite Chikiwa appeared for the State, while Killian Mandiki represented Kariwo.

ZRP Warns Of Syndicate Buying Products With Fake US$100 Notes

Police have initiated an investigation into the brutal assault of two minors by a man and a woman in the Madziwa area of Mashonaland Central Province, following the circulation of a viral video of the attack.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed that the assailants have been identified and will be prosecuted in due course. Police said:

Reference is made to a disturbing video circulating on social media, depicting a man wearing blue work suit trousers brutally assaulting two minors. The assault is further exacerbated by the arrival of a woman who joins in the attack.
The suspects have been identified and investigations are currently underway to ensure that the law takes its course without fear or favour. The incident occurred in Madziwa area, Mashonaland Central Province.

In the video, the man orders two boys to remove their shorts before mercilessly assaulting them on their buttocks with a log. Despite the boys’ pleas for mercy, he continues to strike them as they writhe in pain on the ground.
At one point, a visibly pregnant woman rushes in with a switch, intending to join the assault, but she is restrained by onlookers.
What is particularly troubling is that several witnesses at the homestead did nothing to intervene during the brutal attack. Instead, some can be heard in the background cheering and laughing.
The video does not reveal the relationship between the assailants and the victims, nor does it explain what may have prompted the assault.

ZRP Probes Brutal Assault Of Two Boys In Madziwa After Video Goes Viral

A two-month-old infant tragically died after being accidentally struck on the head with a log by her father during a domestic dispute on Monday in Kodzwa Village, Chiweshe.
It is alleged that Tapiwa Masache, 26, intended to hit his wife with the log but missed, striking their daughter instead, which led to her death.
In a separate incident on Saturday, a 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the chest during an altercation over beer at a bar in Chiredzi.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed both incidents in a statement which reads:

Man Accidentally Kills Own Child During A Dispute With Wife

A Harare magistrate on Monday, November 27, postponed the sentencing of CCC faction leader Jameson Timba and 34 of his supporters, who were convicted last week for participating in an unlawful gathering.
The group, arrested on June 16 while commemorating the International Day of the African Child had initially faced charges of disorderly conduct. However, they were acquitted of that charge after the conclusion of the State’s case.
On Friday, Magistrate Collet Ncube, presiding over the Harare Circuit Court, acquitted 28 other defendants due to insufficient evidence linking them to the gathering.
While Timba and the 34 others were scheduled for sentencing on Monday, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party announced that the sentencing has now been rescheduled to Wednesday, November 27, 2024. The party said:

Senator Jameson Timba and other members of the #Avondale78, who were unjustly found guilty, have had their sentence postponed again.
The initial sentence was set for today, but the new sentence date is now Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 1115 hours in Court 11.

The postponement will extend their unjust detention to 164 days.

In delivering the verdict last week, Magistrate Ncube said that while a meeting had undoubtedly taken place, the number of attendees posed a significant risk of public disturbance, thus justifying the conviction. Ruled the magistrate:

The presence of those gathered at 6 Downey Road cannot be overlooked. While the first accused (Timba) claimed he merely provided accommodation and was unaware of the situation’s developments, it is a fact that he facilitated the gathering at his premises.

Prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti presented evidence that on June 16 this year, around 2 PM, police received information about an unsanctioned gathering at Jameson Timba’s house. It is believed the meeting was intended to plan unlawful demonstrations in Harare.
Upon arriving at the location, police reported hearing a large amount of noise and observed a sizable gathering.
When the suspects allegedly began throwing stones at a police vehicle, causing minor damage, reinforcements were called in.
To disperse the crowd, police used tear gas, leading to the arrest of the suspects.

Magistrate Postpones Sentencing Of Timba, 34 CCC Activists

Chillspot Records producer DJ Ribhe, born Tafadzwa Mandaza, has changed his lawyer as police continue their investigation into allegations that he raped an underage schoolgirl.
The 32-year-old was brought before Harare Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa and remanded in custody until November 20 for a routine remand hearing. The magistrate advised DJ Ribhe to seek bail from the High Court.
As reported by <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/dj-ribhe-facing-serious-allegations/">H-Metro</a>, when he appeared before Harare Regional Magistrate Tilder Mazhande last week, the case was postponed to December 3 pending the finalisation of investigations. He has been in custody since the beginning of this month.
Initially, DJ Ribhe was represented by lawyers Dumisani Mtombeni and Stanley Matandadzi. However, his family has since informed his lawyer, Dumisani Mtombeni, that they have secured a new lawyer for him.
Mtombeni, who is the stable lawyer for Chillspot Records, previously represented DJ Fantan and DJ Levels during their legal issues.
According to prosecutors, on October 16, the victim did not return home from school after her father discovered she had missed two consecutive days.
The following day, around 10 PM, the minor was with DJ Rhibe and others at Mashwede Village, where he allegedly made her drink an unknown substance while smoking shisha.
It is claimed that on October 18 at around 3 AM, the girl and DJ Rhibe went to his residence, where she regained consciousness the next day.
Upon waking, she realized that DJ Rhibe had engaged in sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
The girl was later located in Highfield after a missing person report was filed with the police.
The case came to light on October 20 when the complainant was questioned by her father.
Ribhe is the latest member of Chillspot Records to have encountered legal troubles.
Previously, DJ Levels faced rape allegations, which were ultimately dropped by fellow musician Shashl, who had accused him.
Throughout the trial, DJ Levels maintained his innocence, denying that he raped Shashl, his former girlfriend.
DJ Fantan faced charges of domestic violence brought by his estranged wife, Gamu Nemukuyu. 
Similar to the situation with DJ Levels, the allegations made by Nemukuyu were also dropped.

A five-man gang was arrested recently for siphoning fuel from the Feruka pipeline. This was revealed during an event where over 40 detectives from various Criminal Investigations Department (CID) sections were recognised for arresting notorious criminals.
As reported by <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/exposed-feruka-pipeline-fuel-theft/">The Herald</a>, detectives from CID Homicide and various regions, including Bulawayo, Mwenezi, Norton, and Marondera, were involved in the operation.
According to an awards citation that was read on Friday, between January and March 2024, reports surfaced about criminals digging one-square-metre pits to access the Feruka pipeline, causing significant fuel theft and damage to the pipeline.
The 287-kilometre-long Feruka pipeline, running from Beira (Mozambique) to Mutare (Zimbabwe), is crucial for the energy supply in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and the Congolese region of Katanga.
Investigations revealed the involvement of an international criminal syndicate, similar to thefts in South Africa where millions of litres of fuel were stolen in 2022.
The Marondera team revisited crime scenes, identifying overlooked clues. Despite initial challenges, they conducted extensive surveillance and cultivated informants to gather intelligence. Reads the citation in part:

Their commitment to the investigation paid off on 17 March 2024 at around 0300 hours when they received a crucial tip-off regarding further damage to the pipeline.
The team rushed to the scene but unfortunately, arrived after the suspects had fled, leaving them without any immediate evidence.

US$26,000 Stolen In Armed Robbery At Cowdray Park Home

Amos Chibaya, the former Member of Parliament for Mkoba North (CCC), has been granted bail by the High Court after spending over 40 days in pre-trial detention.
In a ruling on November 22, Justice Gibson Mandaza ordered Chibaya to pay a US$500 deposit to the Clerk of Court at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.
In addition to the deposit, Chibaya was instructed to report to the CID Law and Order Division in Harare every fortnight, continue residing at his usual address, and refrain from interfering with witnesses.
Chibaya is facing accusations of inciting fellow CCC activists to commit violence during a gathering outside the Harare Magistrates’ Court in June.
The protest followed the denial of bail for party faction leader Jameson Timba and several others.
His party maintains that Chibaya should never have been arrested, insisting he committed no offence. CCC said in a statement:

We won’t celebrate persecution and suppression of freedom of association. He shouldn’t have been arrested in the first place.
Zimbabwe is not yet free under the current regime.

The state contends that Chibaya was part of a group of CCC activists who demonstrated outside the court in June, demanding the release of 77 party members who had been denied bail.
It is further alleged that he convened a meeting at the court’s entrance, where fellow party politicians Agency Gumbo and Ostallos Gift Siziba also spoke. During the meeting, Chibaya allegedly incited violence by saying:

It is further alleged that Chibaya invited citizens to come in large numbers to demand the release of their colleagues.

Former MP Amos Chibaya Granted Bail By High Court

Police have arrested eight suspects in connection with a series of armed robberies in Bulawayo between February and November 2024.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that the suspects, aged between 24 and 51, targeted service stations, businesses, and homes, stealing cash, cellphones, and valuables.
The suspects are linked to multiple armed robbery cases, including incidents at service stations in Kelvin North and a house in Nkulumane 5, where cash and valuables were stolen. Reads the statement:

ARREST OF EIGHT SUSPECTS FOR ARMED ROBBERIES IN BULAWAYO
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of eight suspects in connection with a series of armed robbery cases which occurred in Bulawayo between 19th February 2024 and 17th November 2024.
The suspects are, Elvis Charakupa (40), Khulumani Moyo (51), Mavrick Dube (32), Mongameli Moyo (27), Nkosilomusi Dube (27), Mabhena Qhawe (43), Vumani Msipa (31) and Conilias Chigara (24).
They targeted service stations, business premises and residential areas, stealing cash, cellphones and other valuables.
On 20th November 2024 detectives in Bulawayo arrested Elvis Charakupa at a house in Mpopoma, Bulawayo following a tip-off which linked him to the armed robbery cases.
The suspect implicated Mavrick Dube and Mongameli Moyo, leading to their arrest in Bulawayo and Tsholotsho.
The other suspects, Nkosilomusi Dube, Mabhena Qhawe, Vumani Msipa and Conilias Chigara were later arrested at Beitbridge Toll Gate along Gwanda-Beitbridge Road.
The arrest led to the recovery of a 0.32 pistol with eight rounds of ammunition as well as two get-away vehicles, a Nissan Note, registration number AFZ 4527 and Toyota Corolla, registration number ACN 3328.
The suspects are linked to 10 cases of armed robbery, including a case of armed robbery which occurred at a service station in Kelvin North, Bulawayo on 22nd April 2024 where USD 550.00 cash and a cell phone were stolen and another case of robbery which occurred at a service station along Market Road, Kelvin North, Bulawayo on 10th November 2024 where USD 600.00 cash was stolen.
The suspects are also clearing a case of armed robbery which occurred on 17th November 2024 at a house in Nkulumane 5, Bulawayo where ZAR 120 000. 00 cash and two cellphones were stolen.
Investigations are in progress to link the suspects to other armed robbery cases which occurred in Filabusi, Gwanda, Plumtree and Beitbridge.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police commends the public for providing valuable information which led to the arrest of the suspects.

ZRP Arrests Eight Suspects Behind Multiple Armed Robberies in Bulawayo

Harare Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka has dismissed Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s ex-wife, Marry Mubaiwa’s request to have her prosecution stayed due to poor health.
Mubaiwa, who suffers from lymphodema, argued that her trial had been delayed and that her health now prevented her from giving instructions to her lawyer.
However, the magistrate ruled that Mubaiwa was to blame for the delays.
According to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/magistrate-dismisses-marry-mubaiwas-application-for-stay-of-trial/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>, Mubaiwa’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, protested the decision, calling it unfair and claiming the magistrate misunderstood the basis of the application. Said Mtetwa:

She (the magistrate) said Marry is responsible for the delay because she is the one who was sick and was being remanded in hospital.
It is logic that I simply cannot understand…it’s admitted that she was sick, it’s admitted in her ruling that she was in hospital so how it can be said… to blame her for the delay beats me.

Mubaiwa, who has been battling a cancerous ailment for over four years and lost two limbs, is on trial for attempting to kill Chiwenga, while he was hospitalised in South Africa in 2019. She also faces money laundering charges.
Due to her poor health, her lawyer requested that her prosecution be stayed, as she is unable to give instructions. A similar request was made at the High Court. Said Mtetwa:

Applicant cannot fully enjoy the right to a fair hearing which I am advised includes the right to be physically and mentally capable of following the full proceedings, the capacity to give instructions to one’s legal representative throughout the proceedings and if put on her defence, the right to cogently testify on the issues raised in evidence and to generally give her version of events.
I am able to say that the applicant is currently unable to fully exercise all of those rights due to all the issues I have raised above.
In particular, I point out that with regards the money laundering case, the State papers were provided to the defence when the applicant was already on heavy medication, had already lost a limb and was trying to avert the loss of her leg.
Consequently, she has been unable to give instructions on the documents supplied by the State in November, 2023 with the result that her legal team only has general instructions from the period of her arrest when no document had been provided save for the general allegations given on remand

Mtetwa argued that it would be in the interest of justice to give her client a break, as the court has the power to stop unfinished proceedings in exceptional cases where continuing the trial would lead to an unfair outcome that cannot be corrected in any other way.

Magistrate Rejects Marry Mubaiwa's Request To Stay Prosecution Due To Health Issues

A suspected armed robber’s girlfriend has been implicated in two armed robberies after police recovered several stolen items from her house, a court has heard.
As reported by <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/armed-robbers-girlfriend-implicated-in-two-robberies/">H-Metro</a>, Monica Muguti, of Unit M, Chitungwiza, is alleged to have received some of the stolen property from her boyfriend, Tawanda Manokore.
Acting on a tip-off, the police visited Muguti’s residence, where she led them to a wardrobe containing various stolen items.
Among the recovered items were bangles, a bead necklace, a green hip flask inscribed “Stanley since 1913,” a beads bangle, a Guess Waterpro silver and gold watch, a Jeep silver and blue watch, and a Pig gold medal.
In the first robbery, the court heard that on October 26, 2024, Tawanda Manokore, Sarezi Shonhiwa, Tafadzwa Chakuteka, and Willye Chirawu allegedly attacked a couple at their residence on Christon Road, Christon Bank, as they were preparing for bed.
The robbers, armed with machetes and knives and wearing balaclavas, posed as police officers investigating a stolen laptop.
They first attacked the gardener in his cottage, handcuffed him, and then took him to the main house, where they confronted the couple.
The robbers tied up the couple, demanding cash and valuables while threatening to shoot them. They ransacked the house, stealing US$160 cash from a handbag and US$600 from a wallet, six cellphones, a handbag, a gas tank, groceries, and a 9mm Walther pistol with live ammunition from a safe.
The robbers loaded their loot into the victims’ blue Toyota Rav4, which they later abandoned in Mazowe along with some of the stolen items.
In the second robbery, on November 3, the group attacked the complainants at their farm in Goromonzi. They entered the kitchen through an open door and threatened the victims, tying them up and demanding cash.
The robbers stole an iPhone 15 Pro Max, clothes, a laptop, a Bluetooth speaker, US$1,000, an iPhone 13 Pro Max, US$2,000, jewellery, and firearms, including a Beretta 12-bore shotgun, a 410 Beretta shotgun, and a pellet gun.
CCTV footage of the robbery went viral on social media, leading to the arrest of Tafadzwa Chakuteka, who was implicated by co-accused Shonhiwa.
Chakuteka led police to Inkomo Barracks Marriage Quarters, where they recovered the stolen Walther pistol, two empty magazines, and live rounds, which had been hidden in the chimney of his official residence.
The firearm was stolen in the Christon Bank robbery.

Armed Robber’s Girlfriend Implicated In Two Robberies After Police Find Stolen Items At Her Home

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says villagers allowing their livestock to graze along the Gweru-Bulawayo Highway are contributing to the rise in road accidents, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200035342/bulawayo-gweru-road-stray-livestock-accidents-spike">NewsDay</a>.
According to Statutory Instrument 308 of 1974, it is illegal for anyone to allow animals to graze near the highway.
In the past, police have warned that they will impound any domestic animals found grazing along the highways in an effort to prevent such accidents.
ZRP spokesperson for Midlands Province, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, has urged motorists driving along the Gweru-Bulawayo Highway to exercise caution and be vigilant for stray animals to prevent accidents. He said:

It has been observed that there has been an increase in animals straying onto the highways, thus raising the risk of road accidents.
The increase in the straying of stock is attributed to vandalised farm fences and gates that are left open on farms situated along the road.
The 2024 festive season is also approaching and during the period, the volume of motor vehicle traffic is expected to increase.
We also urge livestock owners to refrain them from straying onto the roads and ensure that their farm fences are maintained as well as keep their gates closed at all times.
In the event of driving stock across the road, we appeal to farmers to use designated cattle crossing places, while being led by drovers with reflective clothing.

Prominent cleric Apostle Charles Chiriseri and national hero Retired Air Commodore Mike Karakadzai, who also served as the National Railways of Zimbabwe general manager, tragically lost their lives on the highway after their vehicles collided with stray animals.
In response to the rising number of road accidents caused by stray livestock, the government initiated a project in 2016 to fence the 162km stretch of the Gweru-Bulawayo Highway. The project, funded by the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, aimed to reduce these incidents.
However, the newly installed fence was soon vandalized by villagers and other unknown people.

Stray Livestock Leads To Surge In Accidents On Gweru-Bulawayo Highway

Jameson Timba, the interim Chief Administrator of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party and 34 of his supporters have been convicted for participating in an unlawful gathering.
The group, who has been in custody since their arrest on 16 June, the International Day of the African Child, was also initially charged with disorderly conduct. However, they were acquitted of that charge after the conclusion of the State’s case.
On Friday, Magistrate Collet Ncube, presiding over the Harare Circuit Court, acquitted 28 other defendants, citing insufficient evidence to link them to the gathering.
The convicted individuals, including Timba, are now awaiting sentencing on Monday. In delivering the verdict, Magistrate Ncube said that while a meeting had undoubtedly taken place, the number of attendees posed a significant risk of public disturbance, thus justifying the conviction. Ruled the magistrate:

The presence of those gathered at 6 Downey Road cannot be overlooked. While the first accused (Timba) claimed he merely provided accommodation and was unaware of the situation’s developments, it is a fact that he facilitated the gathering at his premises.

Prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti presented evidence that on June 16 this year, around 2 PM, police received information about an unsanctioned gathering at Jameson Timba’s house. It is believed the meeting was intended to plan unlawful demonstrations in Harare.
Upon arriving at the location, police reported hearing a large amount of noise and observed a sizable gathering.
When the suspects allegedly began throwing stones at a police vehicle, causing minor damage, reinforcements were called in.
To disperse the crowd, police used tear gas, leading to the arrest of the suspects.

Jameson Timba, 34 CCC Activists Convicted

A 30-year-old self-styled prophet named Luckmore Believe Mugabe from Savanhu Village, under Chief Seke, appeared in Chitungwiza Magistrate Court on Thursday, where he was denied bail for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.
As reported by <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/prophet-denied-bail-for-raping-13-year-old-girl/">H-Metro</a>, Luckmore, who is a member of the Johanne Masowe Ejerusalem church, is accused of assaulting a girl from his congregation who is in Grade Seven. He has been remanded in custody until December 11 for trial on two counts of rape.
The first incident allegedly occurred in February 2023. Around 3 PM, Luckmore visited the girl’s home and asked her mother if the girl could spend the night at his house because he was going to an all-night prayer meeting. The mother agreed.
It is alleged that later that evening, at around 8 PM, Luckmore returned to the house claiming he had forgotten a clay pot.
Once inside, he allegedly locked the door and threatened the girl with a knife, forcing her to remove her clothes. He proceeded to her and she did not report the incident to anyone.
The second count of rape reportedly happened when the girl was sent by her mother to deliver an inverter to Luckmore. He is accused of having sex with her again without her consent.
On November 5, the girl’s mother visited a prophetess, who then revealed that the girl had been sexually abused. This led to Luckmore’s arrest on November 18.

Prophetess Reveals Rape Of 13-Year-Old Girl By A Prophet

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and senior Hamas official Mohammed Deif, accusing them of war crimes related to the October 7 attacks on Israel.
Netanyahu and Gallant face charges of crimes against humanity, including murder, persecution, and the use of starvation as a method of warfare.
This marks a historic first, as Netanyahu is the first Israeli leader to be summoned by an international court for alleged war crimes against Palestinians in the ongoing conflict.
Despite the warrants, the Israeli government has rejected the ICC’s actions, calling them politically biased and discriminatory.
The ICC also issued a warrant for Mohammed Deif, a senior Hamas commander believed to have orchestrated the October 7 attacks.

The court issued an arrest warrant for Putin in March 2023 over crimes committed during Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, including for the forcible deportation of children.
As part of their membership in the court, countries are required to arrest people for whom it has issued warrants, though that obligation has not always been observed.
The ICC is an international tribunal established to prosecute individuals for crimes that fall under its jurisdiction, including genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and aggression.
It is the world’s first permanent international criminal court, created by the Rome Statute in 1998, and became operational in 2002.

ICC Issues Arrest Warrants For Israeli Prime Minister And Hamas Official

Namatai Kwekweza, a prominent pro-democracy campaigner, has demanded the Registrar-General (RG) replace her defaced national identity card after Civil Registry Department officials refused to do so, citing her inclusion on a so-called “Stop List.”
According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), on 30 October 2024, Kwekweza was informed that she could not receive a new ID because she was allegedly on a “Stop List,” which is typically related to security issues, ongoing investigations, or pending court cases. This decision was reportedly linked to a 2020 criminal case in which she was accused.
Kwekweza engaged her lawyers, Tinashe Chinopfukutwa and Kelvin Kabaya of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who on 14 November 2024 sent a letter of demand to the Registrar-General, Henry Machiri, protesting the refusal.
The lawyers argued that the refusal to replace Kwekweza’s ID violated her constitutional right to possess a national identity card, guaranteed under Section 35(3)(c) of the Zimbabwean Constitution.
They said every Zimbabwean citizen is entitled to an ID, regardless of any pending criminal charges.
The lawyers pointed out that the criminal case against Kwekweza, stemming from allegations in 2020, had been dropped in 2021 after she was acquitted at the close of the prosecution’s case. Therefore, they argued that the reasons for her inclusion on the “Stop List” were no longer valid.
The lawyers set a 48-hour deadline for Machiri to allow Kwekweza to replace her national identity card. They warned that failure to comply would result in legal action against him, with the RG personally bearing the costs of any litigation due to the lack of legal justification for the refusal.
