Zimbabwe is among 41 countries whose citizens could be banned from travelling to the US under proposed measures aimed at addressing national security and public safety threats.
A draft memo, circulated among aides of President Donald Trump, categorizes countries into three tiers: red, orange, and yellow.
The 11 “red” countries would be completely banned from entering the US, including Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.
Countries in the “orange” category would face restrictions on immigrant, tourist, and student visas. This group includes Belarus, Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, Pakistan, Russia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Turkmenistan.
Zimbabwe falls into the “yellow” category, meaning it has 60 days to address US concerns or risk moving to a more restrictive group.
These countries, which face heavy restrictions or indefinite bans, include Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Vanuatu, Gambia, the Dominican Republic, and several others.
The list, compiled by the US State Department, still requires approval. The White House has not commented publicly on the memo.
This proposal follows an executive order signed by Trump in January 2021 to protect the US from foreign threats, including terrorism and exploitation of immigration laws.
In January 2017, one week into his presidency, Trump signed the executive order titled “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States.”
The order banned Syrian refugees and temporarily suspended entry for individuals from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
The US Supreme Court later upheld a revised version of the ban, which continued to restrict entry for citizens from Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen. The Court confirmed the ban in 2018.
When President Joe Biden took office in 2021, he repealed the ban, calling it inconsistent with America’s tradition of welcoming people from all backgrounds.

Mbano Manor Hotel Victoria Falls Named In TIME’s 2025 World’s Greatest Places List

A Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) ranger, Josphat Mandishara, 62, tragically lost his life on Thursday, March 13, after being trampled by an elephant during a routine patrol in the Gatche-gatche area of Kariba.
In a statement released on Friday, March 14, ZimParks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo confirmed that Josphat Mandishara, 62, was attacked by the elephant around 10 PM while returning to the harbour where he and two colleagues had docked their boat.
At the time of the attack, his two colleagues were occupied with another task. The statement reads:

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) is deeply saddened to announce the untimely death of 62-year-old Ranger Josphat Mandishara, who tragically lost his life after being trampled by an elephant in Kariba.
The incident occurred on 13 March 2025, around 2200 hours, during a routine extended patrol in the Gatche-gatche area where the deceased was accompanied by two fellow ZimParks Rangers and a detail from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) when they went for resupply at the Gatche-gatche Irrigation Scheme.
While his colleagues were occupied, Ranger Mandishara returned to the harbour where their boat was docked.
Unfortunately, during this short trip, he encountered a charged elephant that emerged unexpectedly and fatally injured him.
His remains were transported to Kariba District Hospital for a post-mortem and the incident was reported to the Police.
In response to this tragedy, ZimParks has dispatched Rangers from the Charara Safari Area to manage the problem animal.

ZimParks argues that the area is a critical habitat for the endangered black rhino.
In a statement issued this Thursday, 06 March, ZimParks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said mining activities would increase the risk of species extinction and negatively affect population recovery. Reads the statement:

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) urges the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development to cancel the application for an exclusive prospection of mining activities in Hwange National Park, specifically targeting the Sinamatella Black Rhino Intensive Protection Zone and never to entertain such applications in future.
This area is a critical habitat for black rhinos and currently supports a growing population of this endangered species, which is listed under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES) Appendix 1.
Needless to mention that the proposed mining project will actually increase the risk of species extinction and prospects of population recovery will be negatively affected.
The proposed mining project poses a significant threat, worsening the degradation of land, a critical concern for ZimParks, which has a mandate to ensure that at least 30% of degraded terrestrial, inland water, and ecosystems are restored by 2030.
While we have made substantial progress in reviving wildlife populations across the nation, the introduction of mining activities in this vital area would undermine ecological conditions essential for wildlife survival and reproduction. This compromise will hinder our ongoing efforts to maintain and restore healthy populations of wildlife.
Approving mining in this zone would not only contradict ZimParks’ conservation mandate but also tarnish Zimbabwe’s reputation regionally and internationally as a world leader in sustainable conservation.
It is important to note that tourism is a major revenue generator for the country and our operations significantly rely on the revenue generated from tourism through leased concessions; thus, any mining operations introduced could adversely affect our ability to deliver quality experiences for tourists.
Furthermore, mining activities are known to create air, noise, and land pollution, which detrimentally impact visitor experiences and disrupt wildlife movement, not mentioning the increased cases of poaching.
Sinamatela is home to the Bumbusi ruins which hold historical and cultural significance for the Nambian-speaking communities dating back to the 18th century.
Traditional leaders from the region visit the area annually to conduct cultural rituals and rain-making ceremonies.
Hwange National Park is home to Africa’s second-largest elephant population, and mining may interfere with the flow of groundwater, threatening vital water sources relied upon by our wildlife.
This disruption can worsen existing water shortages, leading to increased mortality rates in species and heightened human-wildlife conflict in surrounding communities.

ZimParks Calls For Cancellation Of Sinamatella Mining Application To Protect Wildlife Habitat

Bhejane Trust, a Rhino and wildlife non-profit conservation organisation based out of Victoria Falls, has raised alarm over a new threat to Sinamatella, which is once again under pressure from Chinese coal mining interests.
Sunny Yi Feng, a Chinese firm, has applied for permission to mine deep within the park, claiming it needs 16,000 hectares. However, maps suggest the area they want to mine could actually span 22,000 hectares.
This development comes despite previous assurances from the Zimbabwean government and the Chinese embassy that they would not support any future mining activities in national parks following earlier attempts to mine in Sinamatella.
According to Bhejane Trust, the proposed mining area falls within the Intensive Protection Zone (IPZ), a critical area set up to protect the park’s remaining black rhinos.
If mining proceeds, these rhinos would have to be relocated, as their survival would be incompatible with the mining operations.
The Trust argued that the impacts would extend beyond wildlife: tourism in Sinamatella would suffer, leading to the closure of tourist camps, loss of business, and damage to the park’s infrastructure.
Sinamatella would effectively need to be de-proclaimed as a park due to the environmental degradation that mining would cause.
The influx of workers and heavy machinery would also expose the area to increased poaching, both for bush meat and commercial purposes.
In addition, mining operations would likely lead to severe pollution of water sources, destruction of infrastructure, and social issues such as prostitution, with little to no benefit for the country as a whole.
Bhejane Trust asserted that the environmental consequences of coal mining in Sinamatella would be devastating.
It would destroy the park’s ecosystem, endanger biodiversity, and significantly harm wildlife habitats, particularly for the black rhinos.
Mining would also negatively affect tourism, deterring visitors not just from Sinamatella but from the broader Victoria Falls region, resulting in major losses for Zimbabwe’s tourism industry.
Furthermore, the contamination of water sources would not only threaten the park’s animals but also local communities who rely on these waters.
Allowing coal mining in Sinamatella would undermine Zimbabwe’s conservation efforts and its commitment to protecting the nation’s natural resources.

Over one million travellers passed through Zimbabwe’s borders in December 2024, marking a 22% increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to the Immigration Department. This total includes more than 600,000 entries and over 400,000 exits.
Beitbridge recorded the highest traffic, with more than 500,000 visitors crossing through both entry and exit points.
Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport followed with nearly 121,000 travellers. In contrast, Chiredzi saw the lowest number of travellers, handling just 208.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.zbcnews.co.zw/immigration-department-records-22-increase-in-business/">ZBC News</a>, the Immigration Department’s Chief Director, Respect Gono (pictured), attributed the rise in visitor numbers to the government’s traveller-friendly policies, which aim to boost tourism and facilitate international travel. She said:

Zimbabwe Sees 22% Increase In Border Traffic

The head of South Africa’s Border Management Authority (BMA), Michael Masiapato, will visit the Beitbridge border post between Thursday and Sunday to oversee operations as the volume of southbound traffic peaks at the end of the festive season.
The border has been handling nearly 20,000 travellers daily since December 10, an increase from the usual 13,000 during off-peak periods.
In a statement on Tuesday, the BMA announced that Masiapato will be supported by Deputy Commissioner Jane Thupana in conducting law enforcement operations for the return leg of the festive period. Said the BMA:

Russia has relaxed visa requirements for Zimbabweans, who now only need an electronic visa, with registration taking no more than four days.
Zimbabweans travelling to Russia no longer need invitations, hotel reservations, or any other documents confirming the purpose of their visit.
Children under six years of age receive a visa free of charge, a policy that also applies to citizens of Kenya and Eswatini.
This change follows Russia’s expansion of the list of countries eligible for its single-entry electronic visa (e-visa). A post on X by Russia’s embassy in Kenya reads:

Russia has made it easier for people from Zimbabwe to visit by giving them electronic visas. They no longer need to show hotel bookings or invitations. Children under six can get a visa for free. This change also applies to people from Kenya and Eswatini. The list of countries that can get e-visas has been expanded. Now people from Zimbabwe, Kenya, Eswatini, and other countries can visit Russia more easily. This change was signed by the Russian Prime Minister on December 5.

Russia Eases Visa Requirements For Zimbabweans

Just two of the 181 people on board a South Korean airliner survived when the passenger jet crash-landed at Muan International Airport in the country’s southwest on Sunday morning, local time.
Multiple media reports indicated that the aircraft skidded down the runway on its belly before bursting into flames.
The two survivors — both crew members, one male and one female — were rescued from the plane’s tail section, the only part of the aircraft that retained some of its shape, according to emergency services. The ages of those on board ranged from 3 to 78.
This incident marks the deadliest aviation disaster to hit South Korea since 1997 when a Korean Airlines Boeing 747 crashed in the Guam jungle, killing 228 people.
Footage of the crash-landing showed the Jeju Air flight sliding on its belly at high speed, hitting an earthen embankment, and erupting into a fireball.
Videos revealed that neither the back nor front landing gear was visible as smoke poured from the back of the sliding aircraft.
Both local fire officials and aviation experts suspect a landing gear malfunction. Lee Jeong-hyun, the head of the Muan Fire Department, suggested the cause might be “the occurrence of a bird strike or bad weather.”
However, the crash investigation could take years, and experts have warned against speculation while authorities face pressure for answers from the passengers’ loved ones.
A team of US federal investigators will assist in the probe, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
Both black boxes from the airliner have been recovered, providing flight data and voice recordings that will be crucial for aviation safety investigators piecing together what happened.
The National Fire Agency confirmed that 179 people – 85 women, 84 men, and 10 others whose genders weren’t immediately identifiable – were killed. The fire that engulfed the plane has been extinguished.
Rob McBride, reporting from Seoul for <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/12/29/dozens-killed-in-south-koreas-muan-as-plane-veers-off-runway-and-crashes">Al Jazeera</a>, said the accident is now considered the worst in history on South Korean soil. Only 65 victims have been identified so far due to the intense fire.
The South Korean government has declared seven days of national mourning over the plane crash.
The plane, a 15-year-old Boeing 737-800 jet, was reported to be carrying two Thai passengers, with the rest believed to be South Koreans.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed deep condolences to the families of the crash victims and ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to investigate and provide immediate assistance.
Photos shared by local media showed thick clouds of black smoke emanating from the plane and its tail section engulfed in flames near the runway.
Jeju Air, one of South Korea’s largest low-cost carriers, issued an apology, saying it would “do everything in our power in response to this accident.”
This crash was the first fatal accident for Jeju Air, although, in August 2007, a Bombardier Q400 operated by the airline came off the runway at Busan Gimhae airport due to strong winds, causing a dozen injuries.
The youngest victim in this recent disaster was a three-year-old boy, and five of those killed were under 10. Five members of the same family spanning three generations also perished.
Officials speculate that birds may have struck an engine before the crash. The Boeing 737-800 jet, Jeju Air flight 7C2216 from Bangkok to Muan International Airport, was making a second attempt at a crash landing after its landing gear failed to open. Witnesses reported hearing a “loud explosion” and seeing sparks in the plane’s engine before it crashed.
The plane veered off the runway and crashed into a wall, bursting into flames. Experts have pointed to the concrete wall as a critical factor in the high number of casualties.
The airport’s control tower had warned the plane about the possibility of a bird strike and allowed the pilot to land in a different area.
A passenger texted a relative to report a bird stuck in the wing of the plane. Their final message was said to have been: “Should I say my last words?” The pilot sent out a distress signal shortly before the crash.
Rescue workers have now retrieved the flight data recorder from the plane’s black box and are still searching for the cockpit voice recording device.
The two crew members who survived are in hospital and talking. One of them, Ms. Ku, a female flight attendant in her 20s, described seeing smoke coming out of one of the engines before it exploded.
Most of the passengers were holidaymakers returning from a five-day Christmas package tour to Bangkok. 
Further photos shared by local media showed smoke and flames engulfing much of the plane, while witnesses described the smell of aviation fuel and blood at the crash site.
A massive emergency response was deployed, with 32 fire trucks, several helicopters, and about 1,560 firefighters, police officers, soldiers, and other officials sent to the site. The rescue teams are still searching for bodies scattered by the impact.
The plane was completely destroyed, with only the tail section recognizable among the wreckage. Authorities have confirmed that the fire has been extinguished, and the incident occurred at 9:03 am local time on Sunday (shortly after midnight GMT).
Jeju Air, formed in 2005, is South Korea’s largest low-cost airline, with more than 12.3 million passengers last year and over 40 aircraft, most of them Boeing 737-800s.
The country is well-regarded in safety terms, holding a Category 1 rating in the US Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) International Aviation Safety Assessment Program.
Jeju Air also received an “A” safety grade in the latest annual review of domestic airlines by South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.
Authorities are now attempting to confirm the identities of victims using the passenger manifest. So far, 88 people have been identified. Among the passengers were 173 South Koreans and two Thai nationals.
All domestic and international flights from Muan International Airport have been cancelled. The last large-scale air disaster in South Korea was in 2002, when an Air China aircraft crashed near Busan, killing 129 people.

179 Killed As South Korean Jet Crashes While Landing At Airport

The ongoing political unrest in Mozambique has impacted tourism from South Africa and disrupted the operations of travel agencies, reported <a href="https://www.citizen.co.za/news/news-world/news-africa/mozambique-unrest-disrupts-sa-tourism-and-travel-agencies/">The Citizen</a>.
Violent protests have plagued the country since the October 9 elections and intensified after the Constitutional Court upheld the results on December 23, confirming Daniel Chapo of the ruling FRELIMO party as the new president.
The latest wave of unrest, sparked by the court’s decision on Monday, has led to at least 33 deaths and 15 injuries in clashes with law enforcement.
Over 100 people have died since the protests began in October, as opposition leaders and citizens demand a vote recount, alleging that the elections were neither free nor fair.
Charity Ndlovu, a travel agent at Charmap Travel, said her company had to cancel all December trips to Mozambique due to the escalating violence. Said Ndlovu:

We have been losing business since the Mozambique protest started around October. In October, we had to rush out of Mozambique after the violent protest started. We were told to leave before midnight and forced to go via Swaziland.

Fuelling Problems At O.R. Tambo Airport Resolved

South African Airways (SAA) pilots have suspended their strike, which began on December 5, 2024, following successful negotiations between SAA Executive Management and the South African Airways Pilots Association (SAAPA).
The dispute started with SAAPA’s demand for a 30% salary increase, which was later revised to 15.7%, including associated benefits.
In response, SAA initially offered an 8.46% pay increase backdated to April. After further negotiations, SAA raised its offer to a 9.47% increase.
On the first day of the strike, Thursday, SAA operated 51% of its planned flights, including just 33% of its international routes.
However, by Saturday afternoon, more than 100 pilots were expected to return to their duties, and SAA was on track to restore a full flight schedule by Sunday, December 8, 2024.

In a statement, the Department said that passports are now readily available without delays, reducing the need for TTDs for routine travel.

The revised validity period for TTDs aims to streamline the application process and reduce the risk of fraudulent activities, said the Department.

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks), on Saturday, September 28, responded to a distress call from a resident in Victoria Falls and gunned down a problem elephant that had entered their yard.
As reported by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200032971/zimparks-defends-shooting-of-vic-falls-elephant">The Standard</a>, the elephant was shot around 5 AM, prompting outrage among animal conservationists who argued that the elephant left behind calves. Said an animal rights activist:

An elephant cow was shot dead on the streets of Victoria Falls today (yesterday) leaving her three orphaned calves.
This has caused an outcry. The elephant was just eating some plants outside someone’s garden and it was shot by parks rangers at 5 AM.

Airlink CEO and managing director, Rodger Foster, on Monday, 15 July, said the additional flights will operate on Wednesdays, departing from Durban’s King Shaka International Airport at 10.30 AM and arriving at Harare’s Robert Mugabe International Airport at 12.40 PM.
The return service leaves Harare at 1.20 PM and lands in Durban at 3.35 PM. Said Foster:

Two fishermen suffered severe burns when a devastating fire broke out at the Sengwa Fishing Camp in Binga, Matabeleland North Province, last week.
The blaze destroyed property worth an estimated $40,000 and razed at least 30 huts to the ground.

Fire Incident Disrupts Flights At Victoria Falls International Airport

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi has proposed the establishment of a facility that would allow civil servants to contribute monthly towards end-of-year holidays, to promote domestic tourism.
During a media engagement in Harare on Monday, July 8th, Rwodzi said that Zimbabwe has numerous tourist attractions, yet very few people have visited them.
The proposed savings scheme would enable civil servants to set aside funds throughout the year, which they could then use to take vacations within the country during the holiday season. Said Rwodzi (via <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200029368/govt-banks-on-civil-servants-in-tourism-push">NewsDay</a>):

You were talking about the Balancing Rocks, we have been advertising it for international tourists so that they go and see that place, but how many of us have visited that place?
We need to advocate a facility for civil servants through the banks, where they can pay every month throughout the year so that they can at least have even a weekend where they visit any domestic tourist destination.
Every year, their families would know that they have a place that they visit as a family.

Minister Rwodzi’s proposal for a civil servant savings scheme comes at a time when the earnings of government employees in Zimbabwe have significantly declined compared to the Government of National Unity (GNU) era.
During the period from 2009 to 2013, civil servants were earning salaries of around US$540 per month. 
However, with the reintroduction of the local currency, their take-home pay has dwindled, making it increasingly difficult for them to afford domestic travel.
Rwodzi lamented the difficulty in accessing many of Zimbabwe’s tourist destinations, highlighting the need to improve the supporting infrastructure.
She called for a bolstering of the Zimbabwe Tourism Fund, which would be used to develop the necessary infrastructure linked to the tourism industry. Said Rwodzi:

If you look at the roads that lead to our tourist destinations, we can see that the roads are bad. If you look at the road that leads to the Balancing Rocks which you were talking about here, is it good? Who do you think is going to fix that road?
It is not the city council, it is the Zimbabwe Tourism Fund. That place needs to be developed because there are no resting places or restaurants there.
There is no bulk infrastructure that can attract investors, so we need to boost domestic tourism.

According to the latest figures, Zimbabwe’s tourism industry generated a total of US$1.16 billion in receipts last year.
Of this, US$732 million was earned from international tourism, while the domestic market contributed US$428 million.

Govt Proposes Civil Servant Savings Scheme To Boost Domestic Tourism

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi has condemned certain local hotels for delivering substandard services, following a delegation of United States guests who opted to leave a five-star hotel in Harare due to lice infestation and soiled mattresses with stains.
Addressing industry stakeholders during the concluding consultations on the Tourism Bill Amendments in Harare, Rwodzi specifically called out three prominent hotels in the country, criticizing their management and describing them as a national embarrassment.
According to <a href="https://businesstimes.co.zw/minister-fumes-over-filthy-hotels/">Business Times</a>, Rwodzi said that many hotels claiming to be five-star establishments were falling short of expectations, operating more akin to brothels, which she described as a disgrace to the country. She said:

I was embarrassed by these people (hotel name withheld). There was a group of 18 American guests who came in December 2023 but they could not even spend a night there after encountering lice. Their mattresses were dirty and the guests left despite having booked for days.

She urged hotels to enhance their cleanliness and maintenance practices and adhere to international standards, noting that some establishments have lost sight of the grading system’s true meaning.
Rwodzi also revealed that a principal from a specific country sustained injuries while bathing at another hotel.
The Minister bemoaned the loss of revenue from online bookings from other countries, saying:

Minister Rwodzi Demands Improved Standards In Zimbabwe's Hospitality Sector

The Immigration Department says it is working on a border management system that will allow holders of Zimbabwean e-passports as well as travellers from SADC countries with e-passports to walk into Zimbabwe through a scanner on an electronic gate without queuing or the involvement of an immigration official.
While giving oral evidence before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Industry and Commerce, Immigration Principal Officer Oscar Chitsa stated that the new e-passport system will help to eliminate bottlenecks and delays, ultimately enhancing the ease of doing business in the country.
The committee chaired by Buhera South MP, Ngoni Mudekunye (ZANU PF), wanted to know what the Border Efficiency Management Committee was doing to address delays by both cargo and passengers at some points of entry and exit. Said Chitsa (via <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/new-system-for-e-passport-holders/">The Herald</a>):

We are working on a new border management system, which we will be launching this year and will provide efficiency at points of entry.
We will introduce e-gates. I can confirm Harare will have a minimum of four of these. These will cater for our nationals and those from Sadc with e-passports.
It means the immigration counters we currently have will now serve foreigners, from outside Sadc and those without e-passports.
Those holding new passports will no longer need to go through the immigration officials. That will bring efficiency at our borders.

He said the rollout will start with busy entry points such as Harare, Bulawayo, Victoria Falls, Beitbridge and Chirundu.
Chitsa also said the Immigration Department had introduced electronic visa applications, and e-permits and have digitised records and information systems to minimise delays. He said:

We have a visa system in which everyone coming to Zimbabwe requiring visas will apply while still in their home country to avoid bottlenecks at the point of entry.
The e-visas will see our visitors apply for visas online while in their home country before travelling. The system is already functioning.
You will also realise that our system has a lot of paperwork that was also causing delays. To deal with that we will introduce online forms to get away with the paper-based system.

An e-passport, also known as a biometric passport, is a type of passport that contains electronic information about the passport holder.
E-passports contain a small, embedded computer chip that stores the passport holder’s personal information, biometric data, and a digital copy of the passport photo.
The chip in an e-passport typically stores biometric identifiers such as a digital photograph, fingerprints, or iris scans of the passport holder. These biometric data points help to verify the identity of the passport holder.
The embedded chip and biometric data make e-passports much harder to forge or counterfeit compared to traditional paper passports.
This improves border security and helps combat identity theft and passport fraud.

Zimbabwe Set To Introduce E-Passport Border Crossing System For Expedited Entry

Decades of economic challenges have tarnished Zimbabwe’s international image to the point where its name now describes a squalid and overcrowded settlement in Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast.
According to opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, a Zimbabwean businessman was shocked during a recent trip to the West African country when the tour guide led him to “Zimbabwe”.
The tour guide, unaware that the tourist was a Zimbabwean national, explained that the name “Zimbabwe” symbolised the disorder, chaos, and filth in the slum. Wrote Chamisa on X:

Image is everything. Recently, a businessman and Zimbabwean citizen shared with me a disturbing insight from their trip to Ivory Coast.
While en route to Boulevard Beach Resort in Abidjan, they passed through a fishing slum community. This area, dirty, chaotic, and disorganized, was in sharp contrast to the other developed parts of the city.
Shockingly, the tour guide revealed that this slum was named “Zimbabwe.” The touring citizen inquired about the origins and significance of the name.
Unbeknown to the tour guide that a Zimbabwean was part of the touring party, the tour guide explained that the name Zimbabwe symbolized the disorder, chaos and filth that pervades the area.
This revelation reflects the painful perception of our beloved country by others elsewhere, even from the African continent.

Chamisa said Zimbabweans shouldn’t be suffering given that the country has the largest lithium deposits in Africa and many other sought-after mineral resources.
He added that this perception by foreigners is a result of broken politics and rigged and disputed elections in Zimbabwe over the years.
Chamisa expressed hope that one day Zimbabwe will be transformed to become the pride of the continent with abundant prosperity.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) introduced the ZiG currency on April 5 with businesses, especially supermarkets, recording a huge jump in daily sales.
The currency is backed by gold, which means its value is tied to the precious metal.

Air Zimbabwe Embraces ZiG Currency

Former Zimbabwean cricketer, Guy Whittall, has narrowly escaped death again after being attacked by a leopard, years after he woke to find an eight-foot-long crocodile hiding under his bed.
<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13344041/Former-cricketer-cheats-death-attacked-leopard-saved-dog-close-encounter-crocodile.html">According to the Daily Mail</a>, Whittall (51), needed emergency surgery after being badly mauled by the big cat. His trusted dog Chikara, was also bitten as he tried to save him.
Guy was attacked while trekking through the conservancy he runs with his father at the junction of the Tugwi and Save rivers in the southeast of the country.
It was at the conservancy where he woke one morning to find a sleeping crocodile under his bed.
Guy’s wife, Hannah Stooks-Whittall, posted images of the latest attack on social media, showing Guy being treated in the bush by medics with bandages on his head. He was later airlifted to Milton Park Hospital in the capital Harare.
She added that Guy had “lost a lot of blood” but was saved by “faithful K9 Chikara” who “was mauled by the leopard getting the cat of Guy”.
A later picture showed Guy in the hospital giving a thumbs up with his head and hands still bandaged.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Hannah said Guy was lucky to be alive following the encounter with the leopard. She said:

He was so fortunate that Chikara was there to help him and get the leopard off him otherwise who knows how it might have ended.
We are so grateful to him, and Chikara going to get some extra chicken as a treat. He’s got to see the vet as he has a few scratches and but he should be ok, he’s in better shape than Guy.
Fortunately, Guy is up in bed and talking, he’s telling anyone who will listen how he wrestled with a leopard but we all know it was down to Chikara.

In 2023, Guy woke up to find a huge crocodile sleeping under his bed, while he was still in it.
The eight-foot reptile had sneaked into his lodge and spent the entire night lying quietly, just fractions beneath an oblivious Guy.
It had managed to stay hidden for more than eight hours overnight, and the following morning, Guy had even perched on the edge of his bed, with his feet dangling over the edge, just inches from the crocodile’s face.
Guy was unaware of the crocodile’s presence and it was only as he was enjoying some breakfast in the kitchen that he heard the petrified screams of a housemaid who had spotted the reptile.
He had to call in some of his co-workers who helped remove the crocodile from its new lair and release him back into a nearby dam.
As a cricketer, Guy is best remembered for his unbeaten 1997 double-century of 203 not out against New Zealand.
