Refueling challenges at O.R. Tambo International Airport, which disrupted normal aircraft operations on Monday, have been resolved, the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has said.
In a statement issued shortly after 2 PM, ACSA assured passengers that the fuel system was now fully operational. It said:

If you are still experiencing delays, please reach out directly to your airline for further assistance.
Earlier on Monday, ACSA issued a statement notifying passengers of refuelling challenges at O.R. Tambo International Airport, which have affected normal aircraft operations.

The situation resulted in delays for some flights, causing inconvenience to travellers. Reads the statement:

Fuelling Problems At O.R. Tambo Airport Resolved

South African Airways (SAA) pilots have suspended their strike, which began on December 5, 2024, following successful negotiations between SAA Executive Management and the South African Airways Pilots Association (SAAPA).
The dispute started with SAAPA’s demand for a 30% salary increase, which was later revised to 15.7%, including associated benefits.
In response, SAA initially offered an 8.46% pay increase backdated to April. After further negotiations, SAA raised its offer to a 9.47% increase.
On the first day of the strike, Thursday, SAA operated 51% of its planned flights, including just 33% of its international routes.
However, by Saturday afternoon, more than 100 pilots were expected to return to their duties, and SAA was on track to restore a full flight schedule by Sunday, December 8, 2024.

South African Airways pilots were on strike for more pay, but they stopped the strike after reaching a deal with the airline. The pilots wanted a 30% raise, then settled for 15.7%. South African Airways Pilots Return To Work After Salary Dispute Resolved

The Civil Registry Department of Zimbabwe has announced that Temporary Travel Documents (TTDs) are now valid for just one month and are only for a single entry into the country of emergency visit.
The change took effect on November 14, 2024.
TTDs are now only needed in special emergencies when citizens urgently need to travel but don’t have time or resources to apply for a passport. They offer a temporary solution while awaiting passport issuance.
In a statement, the Department said that passports are now readily available without delays, reducing the need for TTDs for routine travel.
The Department urged citizens to apply for passports well in advance of their travel dates to avoid inconvenience.
The revised validity period for TTDs aims to streamline the application process and reduce the risk of fraudulent activities, said the Department.

Residents of Victoria Falls are facing challenges coexisting with a large number of buffaloes that have been frequently seen in both high-density urban and low-residential areas.
According to <a href="https://vicfallslive.co.zw/victoria-falls-residents-at-odds-with-roaming-buffaloes-zimparks-maintains-they-belong/">VicFallsLive</a>, the buffaloes have become a common sight, with videos from residents showing attempts to guide them away using sticks and rocks, though the buffaloes remain unbothered.
On Wednesday, November 20, three buffaloes blocked the road on Jakaranda Street while feeding on leaves and grass.
Despite concerns raised by residents, the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) asserts that the buffaloes are within their natural habitat. Tinashe Farawo, Zimparks spokesperson said:

I think we need to understand who is saying there has been a growing trend of buffalos in Victoria Falls for example. l think the numbers we have in Victoria Falls we don’t have much problems with them and this is what attracts tourists.
It’s a tourist town and one of the major draw-cuts for tourists is those buffalos. It is definitely their habitat that’s where they stay in the wild.

However, residents residents disagree. They say that the buffaloes are causing disruptions and may pose a danger to people. Said Khulani Ncube:

We are working hard to make a living, and now we have to deal with these wild animals in our streets.

In one incident, approximately 40 buffaloes blocked the road on Mkhosana Street near Kazungula Road while feeding on vegetables.
Witness Trymore Ndolo told VicFallsLive that the buffaloes could lead to an accident if no action is taken.
While Zimparks insists that the buffaloes are a tourist attraction, residents say their safety should come first.
Another resident acknowledged the importance of tourism but argued that people’s lives are equally, if not more, important than those of wild animals.

Zimbabwean couple Thandolwenkosi Tshuma and Vusumuzi Mkandhla have embarked on the adventure of a lifetime, cycling across Africa with the goal of inspiring fellow Africans.
Starting their journey in South Africa in April 2024, the couple has pedalled over 9,000 kilometres, traversing 11 countries along the way.
While their expedition has captured the imaginations of supporters across the continent, it has also sparked controversy back home due to their decision to carry a South African flag instead of a Zimbabwean one. Many Zimbabweans feel that this choice does not fully represent their roots.

Thandolwenkosi explained that they wanted to carry a Zimbabwean flag but were unable to find one during their time in Uganda. She said:

Thandolwenkosi shared that travelling across the continent has deepened their understanding of different cultures and people.
Her dream of exploring the world began during the 2020 lockdown, and since then, it has blossomed into this remarkable journey.
She acknowledged that cycling across Africa is far from easy, citing challenges such as saddle pains, steep terrains, and managing her menstrual cycle while on the road. Despite these struggles, the couple remains determined and inspired.

Fastjet Zimbabwe has successfully achieved the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registration.
This registration acknowledges Fastjet’s conformance and adherence to the highest operational and safety standards in the aviation industry.

Airlines undergo a comprehensive audit conducted by IATA-registered auditors. This audit evaluates various operational areas, including flight operations, crew training, maintenance, and organizational structure.
The audit is based on a set of safety standards and recommended practices derived from international regulations and best practices in the aviation industry.
Once an airline successfully completes the IOSA audit, it receives registration, which is valid for two years, after which a renewal audit is required.

Fastjet Zimbabwe Earns IATA's Coveted IOSA Registration

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks), on Saturday, September 28, responded to a distress call from a resident in Victoria Falls and gunned down a problem elephant that had entered their yard.
As reported by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200032971/zimparks-defends-shooting-of-vic-falls-elephant">The Standard</a>, the elephant was shot around 5 AM, prompting outrage among animal conservationists who argued that the elephant left behind calves. Said an animal rights activist:

An elephant cow was shot dead on the streets of Victoria Falls today (yesterday) leaving her three orphaned calves.
This has caused an outcry. The elephant was just eating some plants outside someone’s garden and it was shot by parks rangers at 5 AM.

However, Zimparks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo defended the decision to kill the elephant, saying it had posed a threat to human life. Said Farawo:

Yes there was an incident of elimination of an elephant, human life was under threat and normal in this is part of our wildlife control measures.
I do not know how they come to the conclusion that this elephant had three young calves.
You know we do not use emotions when we deal with these things. We deal with facts.
The fact still remains when human life is under threat, that is how we react and we are not apologetic.
I think it’s not right for people to invoke emotions around problem animals control.
When human life is under threat we react, its provided for in our policy and legislation and that is what we have done.
How do they prove that this is the calf of the eliminated elephant, they are just playing games.

In a Press statement on Friday, SAA country manager, Julia Rewayi, said this is in response to rising demand from travellers between the two cities. Reads the statement:

ZimParks and Defend, formerly known as National Parks Rescue (NPR), have been collaborating in the management of Chizarira National Park for the past six and a half years.
Chizarira National Park is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including four of the Big Five: elephants, lions, leopards, and buffaloes. However, rhinos are not present.
The park is also a paradise for bird watchers, with over 360 species recorded, including the rare Taita falcon and African pitta.
Chizarira offers a true wilderness experience with activities like walking safaris, allowing visitors to explore its majestic gorges, natural springs, and diverse ecosystems.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 29, Air Zimbabwe confirmed the relaunch, noting that flights to or from Johannesburg will have return fares starting from US$180. It said:

Air Zimbabwe Resumes Flights Between Harare And Johannesburg

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said that plans are underway to resume direct flights from Zimbabwe to the United Kingdom.
Addressing journalists in Harare on Monday, Minister Mhona also revealed that Air Zimbabwe, the national flag carrier, will be relaunching its Harare-Johannesburg flight route starting from July 29. He said (via The Herald):

Air Zimbabwe, from July 29 is set to resume the Harare-Johannesburg flight and we are not going to end there but we are also going to resume the Harare-London flight.
We have seen that many people like to go to England, and we want to take advantage of that as a country.

We are also going to ferry our minerals to UAE passing through the DRC.

Mhona further elaborated that Air Zimbabwe’s planes are no longer banned from flying to London, following the government’s clearance of a $1.4 million debt owed to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 2022.
In May 2024, a new state-of-the-art radio navigation system was installed at the  Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport as part of a $153 million expansion and modernization project.

South African-based regional airliner, Airlink, is adding more frequencies to its direct Durban-Harare service to provide a daily return flight from August 7, 2024.
Airlink CEO and managing director, Rodger Foster, on Monday, 15 July, said the additional flights will operate on Wednesdays, departing from Durban’s King Shaka International Airport at 10.30 AM and arriving at Harare’s Robert Mugabe International Airport at 12.40 PM.
The return service leaves Harare at 1.20 PM and lands in Durban at 3.35 PM. Said Foster:

Airlink Expands Durban-Harare Route With Daily Flights

Two fishermen suffered severe burns when a devastating fire broke out at the Sengwa Fishing Camp in Binga, Matabeleland North Province, last week.
The blaze destroyed property worth an estimated $40,000 and razed at least 30 huts to the ground.
According to the <a href="https://newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local/article/200029477/binga-fishing-camp-engulfed-by-fire">Southern Eye</a>, the incident has left the affected fishermen and their families in dire need of assistance.
Tyunga-Luunga Ward 1 councillor Minister Sinamunsanga confirmed the tragedy and appealed for help to support the victims. He stated:

We have sent reports of the incident to all relevant offices seeking assistance for all the affected households. We kindly request all well-wishers to come forth in cash and kind. Any form of assistance will go a long way towards cushioning the affected families.

Investigations suggest that the fire may have been sparked by the explosion of a fuel container in one of the huts, leading to the rapid spread of the inferno.

A fire incident that occurred on Wednesday night disrupted flight operations at the Victoria Falls International Airport earlier today.
In a statement, the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) Director General, Elijah Chingosho, confirmed that the fire was caused by an electrical fault in the basement of the Air Traffic Control Tower at the airport. Said Chingosho:

Fire Incident Disrupts Flights At Victoria Falls International Airport

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi has proposed the establishment of a facility that would allow civil servants to contribute monthly towards end-of-year holidays, to promote domestic tourism.
During a media engagement in Harare on Monday, July 8th, Rwodzi said that Zimbabwe has numerous tourist attractions, yet very few people have visited them.
The proposed savings scheme would enable civil servants to set aside funds throughout the year, which they could then use to take vacations within the country during the holiday season. Minister Rwodzi’s proposal for a civil servant savings scheme comes at a time when the earnings of government employees in Zimbabwe have significantly declined compared to the Government of National Unity (GNU) era.
During the period from 2009 to 2013, civil servants were earning salaries of around US$540 per month. 
However, with the reintroduction of the local currency, their take-home pay has dwindled, making it increasingly difficult for them to afford domestic travel.
Rwodzi lamented the difficulty in accessing many of Zimbabwe’s tourist destinations, highlighting the need to improve the supporting infrastructure.
She called for a bolstering of the Zimbabwe Tourism Fund, which would be used to develop the necessary infrastructure linked to the tourism industry. Said Rwodzi:

If you look at the roads that lead to our tourist destinations, we can see that the roads are bad. If you look at the road that leads to the Balancing Rocks which you were talking about here, is it good? Who do you think is going to fix that road?

There is no bulk infrastructure that can attract investors, so we need to boost domestic tourism.

According to the latest figures, Zimbabwe’s tourism industry generated a total of US$1.16 billion in receipts last year.

Govt Proposes Civil Servant Savings Scheme To Boost Domestic Tourism

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi has condemned certain local hotels for delivering substandard services, following a delegation of United States guests who opted to leave a five-star hotel in Harare due to lice infestation and soiled mattresses with stains.
Addressing industry stakeholders during the concluding consultations on the Tourism Bill Amendments in Harare, Rwodzi specifically called out three prominent hotels in the country, criticizing their management and describing them as a national embarrassment.
According to <a href="https://businesstimes.co.zw/minister-fumes-over-filthy-hotels/">Business Times</a>, Rwodzi said that many hotels claiming to be five-star establishments were falling short of expectations, operating more akin to brothels, which she described as a disgrace to the country. She said:

I was embarrassed by these people (hotel name withheld). There was a group of 18 American guests who came in December 2023 but they could not even spend a night there after encountering lice. Their mattresses were dirty and the guests left despite having booked for days.

Minister Rwodzi Demands Improved Standards In Zimbabwe's Hospitality Sector

The Immigration Department says it is working on a border management system that will allow holders of Zimbabwean e-passports as well as travellers from SADC countries with e-passports to walk into Zimbabwe through a scanner on an electronic gate without queuing or the involvement of an immigration official.
While giving oral evidence before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Industry and Commerce, Immigration Principal Officer Oscar Chitsa stated that the new e-passport system will help to eliminate bottlenecks and delays, ultimately enhancing the ease of doing business in the country.
The committee chaired by Buhera South MP, Ngoni Mudekunye (ZANU PF), wanted to know what the Border Efficiency Management Committee was doing to address delays by both cargo and passengers at some points of entry and exit. Said Chitsa (via <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/new-system-for-e-passport-holders/">The Herald</a>):

We are working on a new border management system, which we will be launching this year and will provide efficiency at points of entry.
We will introduce e-gates. I can confirm Harare will have a minimum of four of these. These will cater for our nationals and those from Sadc with e-passports.

Those holding new passports will no longer need to go through the immigration officials. That will bring efficiency at our borders.

Chitsa also said the Immigration Department had introduced electronic visa applications, and e-permits and have digitised records and information systems to minimise delays. He said:

The e-visas will see our visitors apply for visas online while in their home country before travelling. The system is already functioning.

E-passports contain a small, embedded computer chip that stores the passport holder’s personal information, biometric data, and a digital copy of the passport photo.
The chip in an e-passport typically stores biometric identifiers such as a digital photograph, fingerprints, or iris scans of the passport holder. These biometric data points help to verify the identity of the passport holder.
The embedded chip and biometric data make e-passports much harder to forge or counterfeit compared to traditional paper passports.
This improves border security and helps combat identity theft and passport fraud.

Zimbabwe Set To Introduce E-Passport Border Crossing System For Expedited Entry

Decades of economic challenges have tarnished Zimbabwe’s international image to the point where its name now describes a squalid and overcrowded settlement in Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast.
According to opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, a Zimbabwean businessman was shocked during a recent trip to the West African country when the tour guide led him to “Zimbabwe”.
The tour guide, unaware that the tourist was a Zimbabwean national, explained that the name “Zimbabwe” symbolised the disorder, chaos, and filth in the slum. Wrote Chamisa on X:

Image is everything. Recently, a businessman and Zimbabwean citizen shared with me a disturbing insight from their trip to Ivory Coast.
While en route to Boulevard Beach Resort in Abidjan, they passed through a fishing slum community. This area, dirty, chaotic, and disorganized, was in sharp contrast to the other developed parts of the city.
Shockingly, the tour guide revealed that this slum was named “Zimbabwe.” The touring citizen inquired about the origins and significance of the name.
Unbeknown to the tour guide that a Zimbabwean was part of the touring party, the tour guide explained that the name Zimbabwe symbolized the disorder, chaos and filth that pervades the area.
This revelation reflects the painful perception of our beloved country by others elsewhere, even from the African continent.

Chamisa said Zimbabweans shouldn’t be suffering given that the country has the largest lithium deposits in Africa and many other sought-after mineral resources.
He added that this perception by foreigners is a result of broken politics and rigged and disputed elections in Zimbabwe over the years.

Air Zimbabwe Embraces ZiG Currency

Former Zimbabwean cricketer, Guy Whittall, has narrowly escaped death again after being attacked by a leopard, years after he woke to find an eight-foot-long crocodile hiding under his bed.
<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13344041/Former-cricketer-cheats-death-attacked-leopard-saved-dog-close-encounter-crocodile.html">According to the Daily Mail</a>, Whittall (51), needed emergency surgery after being badly mauled by the big cat. His trusted dog Chikara, was also bitten as he tried to save him.
Guy was attacked while trekking through the conservancy he runs with his father at the junction of the Tugwi and Save rivers in the southeast of the country.
It was at the conservancy where he woke one morning to find a sleeping crocodile under his bed.
Guy’s wife, Hannah Stooks-Whittall, posted images of the latest attack on social media, showing Guy being treated in the bush by medics with bandages on his head. He was later airlifted to Milton Park Hospital in the capital Harare.
She added that Guy had “lost a lot of blood” but was saved by “faithful K9 Chikara” who “was mauled by the leopard getting the cat of Guy”.
A later picture showed Guy in the hospital giving a thumbs up with his head and hands still bandaged.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Hannah said Guy was lucky to be alive following the encounter with the leopard. She said:

He was so fortunate that Chikara was there to help him and get the leopard off him otherwise who knows how it might have ended.
We are so grateful to him, and Chikara going to get some extra chicken as a treat. He’s got to see the vet as he has a few scratches and but he should be ok, he’s in better shape than Guy.
Fortunately, Guy is up in bed and talking, he’s telling anyone who will listen how he wrestled with a leopard but we all know it was down to Chikara.

In 2023, Guy woke up to find a huge crocodile sleeping under his bed, while he was still in it.
The eight-foot reptile had sneaked into his lodge and spent the entire night lying quietly, just fractions beneath an oblivious Guy.
It had managed to stay hidden for more than eight hours overnight, and the following morning, Guy had even perched on the edge of his bed, with his feet dangling over the edge, just inches from the crocodile’s face.
Guy was unaware of the crocodile’s presence and it was only as he was enjoying some breakfast in the kitchen that he heard the petrified screams of a housemaid who had spotted the reptile.
He had to call in some of his co-workers who helped remove the crocodile from its new lair and release him back into a nearby dam.
As a cricketer, Guy is best remembered for his unbeaten 1997 double-century of 203 not out against New Zealand.

Low-cost airline Fastjet Zimbabwe on Monday, 22 April, announced that its customers could now pay for their flight tickets using the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency.
Fastjet Zimbabwe, with routes from and to Johannesburg in South Africa and local routes from Harare to Bulawayo and Victoria Falls, announced the development via its social media pages. It said:

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) introduced the ZiG currency on April 5 with businesses, especially supermarkets, recording a huge jump in daily sales.
The currency is backed by gold, which means its value is tied to the precious metal.
Zimbabweans were given 21 days to exchange their old, inflation-affected Zimbabwe dollar banknotes for the new ZiG currency.
However, the US dollar, South African Rand and Botswana Pula account for over 85% of transactions and will continue to be legal tender.
The RBZ’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has launched a blitz targetting businesses accused of trading exclusively in US dollars and refusing to transact in ZiG. FIU says it has has frozen bank accounts of 11 companies since the launch of ZiG.
However, fuel dealers have been granted permission to sell their products exclusively in forex, and this selective application of rules threatens to erode confidence in ZiG.

Fastjet Accepts Flight Bookings Payments In ZiG

A 74-year-old British tourist fulfilled his dream of seeing a leopard in Zimbabwe but tragically suffered a heart attack and died shortly afterwards, as reported in a Suffolk court.
According to <a href="https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/24234643.andrew-slater-inquest-suffolk-coroners-court-ipswich/">The East Anglian Daily Times</a>, the inquest into Andrew Slater’s death concluded at Suffolk Coroners’ Court in Ipswich.
Slater passed away in Victoria Falls on October 27 of last year.
The court learned that Slater, a resident of Southampton, was an avid traveller with extensive safari experience.
Surprisingly, he had never encountered a leopard until that fateful trip.
Slater’s long-held dream came true during his final holiday in Zimbabwe when he captured a photograph of a leopard.
Unfortunately, Slater’s health declined before his holiday concluded. He was admitted to Health Bridge Hospital in Victoria Falls, where his condition worsened until he eventually passed away.
Senior Coroner Nigel Parsley determined that Slater’s passing resulted from natural causes, specifically a heart attack.

British Tourist (74) Dies During Holiday To See A Leopard In Zimbabwe

An 80 year old tourist was killed in Zambia after an elephant charged at their safari truck and overturned it in Kafue National Park, Zambia. Two other tourists who were injured and were evacuated to Lusaka for medical attention.
According to <a href="https://zambianobserver.com">Zambian Observer</a> the incident happened on Saturday, 30 March 2024.
In a video widely circulated on social media, an elephant is seen charging parallel to the vehicle while the driver of the vehicle seem to be driving to escape.  The vehicle then suddenly stopped and the elephant caught up with it. According to the tourism company in charge of the tour, Wilderness, the road became blocked and the tour guide had to stop the vehicle.
Someone could be heard shouting at the elephant, but the elephant overturned the vehicle, resulting in the death of the tourist.

The Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) has tightened security at the Victoria Falls International Airport to ensure the safety of passengers and its staff.
This comes after Fastjet Airline on Friday, 01 March notified authorities of an email that it received from one John Doe claiming a credible bomb/firearm threat to Zimbabwean airports.
Following the warning, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s flight aborted its landing in Victoria Falls where he was scheduled to address a business conference.
A 26-year-old South African national, Cuan Reed Govender, was arrested and later fined US$300 after he was found in possession of some bullets at the Robert Mugabe International Airport on the day the email from John Doe referring to bombs was sent.
The following day (02 March), a 36-year-old Malaysian national, Lucy Kabethi Wanjiku was arrested at the Victoria Falls International Airport after she was found in possession of a live bullet.
In a statement to stakeholders, Victoria Falls Airport’s acting airport manager Vupenyu Shava, said:

In response to a bomb and firearm threat that was received on 1 March 2024, the Airports Company of Zimbabwe Private Limited has deemed it necessary to take immediate action to ensure the safety and security of both passengers and airport personnel.
Consequently, the company has decided to implement heightened security measures to level three (3), which is significantly higher than the normal baseline level.
These additional measures have been put in place to mitigate any potential risks to create a secure environment within the airport premises.

Only travelling passengers and airport staff are allowed into the terminal building and there will be strict access control at the Main Entrance, with all staff required to display passes at all times.
Shava said the front drop-off and pick-up zone of the International Terminal Building would also be temporarily sealed off.
He said there would be a secondary screening of passengers at the Boarding Gate, a physical search of all checked baggage and increased police presence in the Terminal Building.
Shava said no unaccompanied and mishandled baggage will be allowed while passenger luggage should be shrink-wrapped after physical searches have been carried out.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) on Friday, 01 March, issued a statement about a Security Incident at Victoria Falls International Airport resulting in Flight Disruptions.
CAAZ said adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and security of all operators, passengers, and visitors. Reads the statement:

This morning, a bomb and firearm alarm was raised at the Victoria Falls International Airport necessitating an immediate activation of all security measures in line with the Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS).
As a safety and security precautionary measure, both in and outbound flight movements were disrupted through diversions or delays, while other airport ancillary facilities have been closed, to allow for thorough checks and investigations.
The Authority wishes to assure all operators, passengers, and visitors that adequate measures have been put in place for their safety and security.
However, some of the measures may entail a disruption in normal airport activities, to allow for the continuous monitoring of the environment.

Reports indicate that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Falcon 7X was forced to abort its landing and turn back to Harare, while a Kenyan Airways flight from Nairobi was forced to hold for several minutes before diverting to Livingstone, Zambia.

CAAZ Apologises For Flight Disruptions At Victoria Falls Airport

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has declared missing an Australian tourist aged 67 who was last seen on 17 February in Victoria Falls.
The tourist thought to have been travelling alone while in Victoria Falls, was booked at a local hotel and reportedly seen walking down to the Victoria Falls Rainforest around 6 AM on 17 February. That was the last time he was seen.
Details of the missing Aussie have not been given due to security reasons but he is said to have skin blemishes on the face.
Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS) spokesman Tinashe Farawo said on Monday that the missing tourist was male and aged 67 years.
The tourist, who was travelling alone, was staying at a luxury lodge about 3 kilometres (1.8 miles) from the rainforest park.
He reportedly told the lodge management on 17 February that he was heading into the park.
However, the man was not seen entering the park on CCTV footage reviewed later.
It also emerged that he was not among those recorded as entering the park, as normally is done for accountability and security purposes. Said Farawo:

We have replayed the CCTV footage, physical records at the entrance of the falls have no record of him entering and our search team has been checking the rainforest. There is no sign of him.
We are looking at other leads because it seems he never entered the rainforest.

There were fears the missing man may have drowned on the Zambezi River but if that had happened, by now his body may have been seen floating on water.
Some stakeholders believe that if he had been attacked by wild animals, his remains could have been recovered by now.
Others have suggested that the Aussie crossed into Zambia without stamping his passport.

A 67-year-old Australian tourist has gone missing in Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls National Park.
Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority spokesman Tinashe Farawo confirmed the development last week on Friday. He said:

A 67-year-old Australian tourist has gone missing in Victoria Falls. A Zimparks reaction team and [ZRP officers] are on the ground searching for the missing tourist. Drones, sniffer dogs, and trackers are also on the ground to increase coverage.

Such incidences are said to be rare in Victoria Falls, a destination that attracts thousands of tourists from across the world.
However, there are a few cases that have been recorded in other parks. In October 2023, a German tourist went missing in Matusadona National Park in northern Zimbabwe.
The tourist was found alive and in good health three days after he was reported missing.
Andreas Hoberg had last been seen buying a drink at the park shop in Matusadona National Park before going for a game drive around 3 PM.
He failed to return by 6 PM when all game drives should have ended, and the car rental company failed to locate him on its GPS tracking system.
It later emerged that Hoberg’s car had developed a mechanical fault deep in the jungle.

Authorities in Zimbabwe say the decision by FlyNamibia to introduce this route is a testament to Zimbabwe’s “Open Skies Policy” and demonstrates the growing interest of airlines in flying to Zimbabwe. The aviation industry plays a vital role in facilitating efficient business operations, ensuring traveller safety, and enabling smooth cargo movement.
Zimbabwe’s government has a vision to transform the country into an upper middle-income status by 2030. This vision has inspired the full implementation of the “Open Skies Policy,” aligning with the mantra “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” and the African Union’s 2063 Agenda for a Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).

FlyNamibia To Launch Direct Flights Connecting Windhoek And Victoria Falls

There have been calls on social media to boycott or cancel Kenya Airways after a Zimbabwean woman shared her negative experiences with the airline. The woman, named Fadzi, reported that she had received poor service from the airline on two separate occasions. She mentioned that her baggage was delayed and arrived damaged, with some items missing, including an AirTag that was still at the airport in Harare. Fadzi expressed her disappointment and suggested that people should choose another airline instead of Kenya Airways. In a post seen by Pindula News, she said:

I had to beg for my luggage twice. 1st I got to Hre &amp; got my bag after 4 days; back home, I got my bag after 6 days. I implore you to find another airline to use, @KenyaAirways has been nothing but HORRIBLE. If it had been one way I’d have said bad luck. Twice is deliberate.

In response to Fadzi’s tweet, other individuals also shared their own negative experiences with the airline. One Twitter user mentioned using Ethiopian Airlines instead, highlighting their positive experience with the alternative carrier. Several users expressed their dissatisfaction with Kenya Airways, mentioning flight delays, poor communication, and lost luggage as common issues they had encountered. Some individuals vowed never to use the airline again. Some even called it Mushika-shika, a term used in Zimbabwe to refer to an informal public transportation system. 
One person recalled a distressing experience involving both Kenya Airways and Dnata in Dubai, which led to financial losses. Another user claimed that their return flight to Melbourne was canceled by Kenya Airways, and they were still waiting for a refund. The sentiment on social media seemed to be overwhelmingly negative towards the airline, with many users sharing their disappointment and frustration.
Some Twitter users recommended considering other airlines, such as KLM or Ethiopian Airlines, as more reliable alternatives to Kenya Airways. They cited reasons such as better customer service, convenient loyalty programs, and a history of consistent performance.

Social Media Backlash: Calls To Boycott Kenya Airways Amid Customer Complaints

Cemair, an independently owned and operated South African airline, is set to launch flights between Johannesburg and Harare in March 2024. This new route will join the existing list of airlines offering direct flights between these two major cities.
Starting from March 21, Cemair will provide scheduled flights four times a week on the Johannesburg-Harare route, <a href="https://www.thesouthafrican.com/news/cemair-another-new-cross-border-route-for-sa-airline/">The South African</a> reported. Passengers on these flights can expect to enjoy inflight catering, a checked baggage allowance of 21kg, and a cabin baggage allowance of 7kg, all included in the standard fares. Commenting on the development, Zimbabwean journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono said this was “fantastic news”:

Cemair already operates a wide network of domestic flights within South Africa and serves destinations such as Maun and Kasane in Botswana, Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, and Maputo in Mozambique. The airline has expressed its intentions to expand its services to other destinations in the future, with flights to Luanda in Angola, Livingstone in Zambia, and Gaborone in Botswana in the pipeline.
Zimbabwe, much like South Africa, has experienced positive growth in terms of tourism and air travel. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, several airlines have either introduced or reintroduced scheduled flights to Zimbabwe. Both Victoria Falls and Harare have witnessed an increase in airline presence, with multiple carriers offering direct services from Johannesburg to Harare. Notable airlines on this route include Airlink, FlySafair, South African Airways, Fastjet, and Air Zimbabwe.
