The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has informed stakeholders, parents, guardians, and candidates about the Interbank rate that will apply when making payments for the 2024 June Ordinary and Advanced level and Grade 6 and Grade 7 Examination Fees.
In a public notice issued this Wednesday, March 20, ZIMSEC said that the examination fees are originally set in USD, but they can be paid in the currency that parents or guardians find convenient.
It said parents can choose to make payments in USD or Rands until the registration closing dates and if they prefer to pay in Zimbabwe Dollars (ZWL), they can do so during the window from 19 March to 26 March 2024.
The exchange rate for ZWL payments during this period is ZWL18,981 to 1 USD. Reads the notice:

Fees are pegged in USD however they are accepted in the currency which the parents/ guardians are comfortable with.
Parents who wish to make payments in USD or Rands can do so until the registration closing dates. Those who would like to make payments in ZWL will use the rate communicated herein.
<h2>ZWL Interbank Rate</h2>
NOVEMBER 2024 ORDINARY AND ADVANCED LEVEL AND  2024 GRADE 6 AND GRADE 7
Parents/Guardians who wish to pay registration fees in Zimbabwe Dollar (ZWL) can do so during the window of 19 March to 26 March 2024.
The interbank rate of 19 March 2024 will be used during this period to ensure that all candidates pay a uniform registration fee. The exchange rate to be applied for payments is ZWL18 981 to 1 USD. Payment period 19 March to 26 March ONLY.
Payments for the examination fees should NOT be paid directly into ZIMSEC accounts by individual parents. Candidates/ Parents should make payments to the school or centre of registration for forward remission to ZIMSEC.
Candidates, parents and guardians are encouraged to contact their respective Centres for registration closing dates to avoid any inconveniences.

ZIMSEC Announces Interbank Rate For Examination Fees - 19 March To 26 March 2024

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has announced the interbank rate that shall apply when making payments for candidates registering for the 2024 June Ordinary and Advanced level Examination Fees in Zimbabwe dollars.
ZIMSEC pegged examination registration fees in United States dollars but the fees are accepted in the currency which the parents/ guardians are comfortable with.
Parents who wish to make payments in USD or Rands can do so until the registration closing dates but those who would like to make payments in ZWL will use the rate announced by the examinations management body. ZIMSEC said:

Parents/ Guardians who wish to pay registration fees in Zimbabwe Dollar (ZWL) are able to do so during the window of 13 March to 20 March 2024.
The interbank rate of 13 March 2024 will be used during this period to ensure that all candidates pay a uniform registration fee.
The exchange rate to be applied for payments is ZWL17 558 to 1 USD.

ZIMSEC reminded stakeholders that payments for the examination fees should not be paid directly into ZIMSEC accounts by individual parents.
Candidates/ Parents have been advised to make payments to the school or centre of registration for forward remission to ZIMSEC.
O’ Level examination fees are US$24 per subject. But there is a US$13 per subject subsidy from Government for public schools, local authority and not-for-profit mission schools, so parents just have to find the US$11.
The A’ Level fee is US$48 a subject, but the Government will pay a subsidy of US$26 a subject for those children at public, local authority and not-for-profit mission schools, so parents and guardians will pay US$22 per subject.
Children at private schools, colleges and private missions pay the full amount.

ZIMSEC Announces Interbank Rate For 2024 June Exams Registration

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_School_Examinations_Council/">Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC)</a> has announced the interbank rate to be applied on November 2023 Ordinary and Advanced level examination fees paid in <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Zimbabwean dollars</a> during the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2023/04/19/zimsec-to-embark-on-mop-up-registration-exercise/">registration mop-up window</a> from May 8th to May 12th, 2023. In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZIMSEC said the rate is ZWL 1207 to 1 USD. Reads the notice:

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council will carry out a registration mop•up exercise from Monday 8 May 2023 to Friday 12 May 2023 to allow centres to ensure all their candidates have been registered for the November 2023 examinations. Candidates who wish to sit for their examinations should ensure that they register at their centre of choice during this period. Examination registration fees during that window are pegged according to the normal registration. 
The Interbank rate which shall apply when making payments for the 2023 November Ordinary and Advanced level Examination Fees in ZWL during the registration Mop up window is ZWL 1207 to 1 USD. Payments for the examination fees should nut be paid directly into ZIMSEC accounts by individual parents. Candidates/ Parents should make payments to the school or centre of registration for forward remission to ZIMSEC.
 ZIMSEC continues to accept fee payments in the currency the guardians/ parents paid. Centres are therefore reminded. that remittances to ZIMSEC should be made in the currency paid by parents.

ZIMSEC Sets Interbank Rate For Exam Fees In ZWL

Teacher unions say the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) Ordinary and Advanced Level examination fees are too high and some learners may fail to continue with their education.
ZIMSEC set the 2023 examination fees at US$24 per subject but candidates will pay US$11, while the government pays the balance.
Advanced Level examination fees are at US$48, with candidates paying US$22, while the government pays the balance.
In a statement, the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) said civil servants will struggle to raise the examination fees for their children. Reads part of the statement:

ZIMSEC pegged its registration fees to an equivalent of US$24 dollars per subject. This gives an average Ordinary Level candidate the cost burden of US$120 for a minimum of five subjects.
This is occurring in a context where the average civil servant is earning close to US$150 per month, hence making the examination fee way above their means.
It also means that the average learner will require more than four months to raise adequate funds to register for examinations while the Friday, April 14 deadline leaves students with less than six days to pay.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou concurred.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200010004/teachers-lament-inhumane-exorbitant-zimsec-fees">NewsDay</a>, Zhou said ZIMSEC should extend the registration deadline to give parents and guardians more time to raise the required examination fees. He said:

The shift by ZIMSEC from US$22 to US$24 will heap burning coals upon the heads of thousands of Zimbabwean parents.
It is prudent for ZIMSEC to realise that many pupils will drop out of school due to exorbitant school fees.
Government must, therefore, make an urgent intervention to ensure that pupils can register for examinations.
Above all, the period of registration is too short, and an extension until schools open will provide parents with a breathing space to hunt for examination fees.

Examination registration fees are pegged in USD and parents can make payments in ZWL, USD or ZAR.
