Zimbabwe lost 2-1 to Cameroon in their final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Yaounde on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite the loss, Zimbabwe has qualified for the AFCON tournament in Morocco next year.
Cameroon, with 11 points, topped the group, while Zimbabwe, with 9 points, needed a win to surpass them.
Vincent Aboubakar and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou scored for Cameroon in the 18th and 23rd minutes.
Goalkeeper Washington Arubi made crucial saves to keep Zimbabwe in the game.

Zimbabwe qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for a sixth time on Friday, securing a spot in next year’s tournament after a 1-1 draw against Kenya in their penultimate Group J qualifier.
Tawanda Maswanhire’s debut goal in the first half was enough to earn the Warriors the crucial point they needed to qualify.

Both teams pushed for a winner, but neither side could find the back of the net. In the end, a draw was all Zimbabwe needed to confirm their qualification for the 2025 AFCON.
With the qualification secured, Zimbabwe’s final Group J match against Cameroon on Tuesday is now academic.
However, coach Michael Nees has stated that the Warriors will aim to finish top of the group, and a victory over Cameroon would ensure that outcome.

In an Instagram post, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) said that the squad was stranded overnight at Al Abraq airport outside of Al Bayda, Libya. It had originally been set to land over 200 kilometres away in Benghazi. Said the NFF:

The chartered ValueJet aircraft was, strangely and in a dangerous manner, diverted to the small airport away from Benghazi just as the pilot was completing his approach to the Benghazi Airport. We understand the Al Abraq International Airport is only used for hajj operations.
Fatigued players and officials have remained nonplussed as the host Libyan Football Federation (LFF) failed to send any reception team or even vehicles to take the delegation members from the airport to their hotel, said to be 3 hours away in Benghazi.

The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) denied any foul play, claiming the diversion was unintentional and hoping for a resolution.
The NFF previously rejected claims of poor treatment by the Libya captain and accused the LFF of creating chaos.

Team captain William Troost-Ekong described the situation as “mind games,” saying they were left without a phone connection, food, or drink. He wrote on X:

This kind of behavior, let them have the points. We will not accept to travel anywhere by road here even with security it’s not safe.
We can only imagine what the hotel or food would be like given to us IF we continued. We respect ourselves and respect our opponents when they are our guests in Nigeria.
Mistakes happen but these things on purpose have nothing to do with (international) football.

Troost-Ekong shared images of players trying to sleep at the airport, and suggested again that it was a deliberate attempt to disrupt the team, stating, “We would NEVER treat a guest nation for a game in this way.”

Zimbabwe moved closer to qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after beating Namibia 3-1 at Orlando Stadium, Johannesburg on Monday evening. The Warriors now have 8 points in Group J.

Both Murwira and Dynamos vice-captain Emmanuel Jalai were among the few locally-based players called up by Nees for the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Namibia, scheduled for October 10 and 14. 
Neither player participated in the Harare Derby, which CAPS United won 2-1.
In an ironic twist, Dynamos goalkeeper Martin Mapisa, who is also part of the Warriors squad, was permitted to play in the match.
