United Kingdom-based Zimbabwe constitutional law expert and political analyst Alex Magaisa has urged the opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change national leadership not to take citizens for granted but communicate clearly to prevent uncertainty, confusion and panic.
This comes after CCC vice president Welshman Ncube was pictured with former MDC-T vice president Thokozani Khupe and former MDC-T organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe seemingly emerging from a meeting.
The picture has been circulating on social media platforms since Tuesday, prompting some opposition political activists to speculate that the three could be working together, having been senior members of the original MDC at the turn of the Millenium.
CCC, however, said Ncube, Khupe and Bhebhe’s meeting was a private meeting that had nothing to do with the party’s programmes.
In a Twitter thread, Magaisa, a Kent University law professor and former advisor to a Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, said CCC leaders risk can derail the movement if they lose focus and make mistakes. 1. The bond of trust between political elites in the cockpit and the passengers is very important. It is fragile and must be handled with care. People don’t want to be taken for granted or to have their emotions on a merry-go-round. Explain your movements.
2. True, sometimes those in the cockpit must make tough decisions as they steer the plane. But communication with the passengers remains important, lest there’s uncertainty, confusion and panic. Lack of communication or half messages lead to speculation which is equally unhelpful.
3. When you make important decisions, explain to the people what’s going on and why. People want to believe their leaders have the wisdom to make the right decisions. But don’t leave in a position where they must speculate. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate.
4. The CCC has the ball at its feet &amp; everyone wants it. That’s why there’s a flurry of propaganda &amp; other destabilisation efforts from the regime. But the Yellow Train is moving. The only people that can derail it are the leaders of the CCC if they lose focus &amp; make mistakes.
5. Whatever decisions they take, they must be smart, well thought out &amp; well-timed. An otherwise good decision made at the wrong time can have terrible consequences. But above all, don’t keep your people in the dark. Communicate with them. Show them some respect.
6. If you see your people speculating too much or asking “What’s going on here?” it suggests you’re not communicating well with them. It’s not a good habit. Keep your people onside by communicating well with them. If it’s good news they will support you. If not, hear them out.

'Don't Take People For Granted', Magaisa Warns CCC Leaders

The agenda of a recent meeting between Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) vice president Welshman Ncube and former MDC-T interim president Thokozani Khupe has been revealed.
In an interview with Bulawayo24 on Wednesday, Khupe’s spokesperson Ntando Ndlovu said the leaders deliberated on voter registration and also discussed how opposition parties can work together to unseat ZANU PF in the 2023 general elections. Said Ndlovu:

The President of the MDC-T, Dr Thokozani Khupe indeed met with the CCC Vice President, Prof Welshman Ncube yesterday.
The discussions were mainly centred around issues of voter registration ahead of the 2023 harmonized elections.
The idea is that all opposition political parties must work collaboratively in pushing for voter registration and electoral reforms.
The parties further touched on jointly monitoring the upcoming by-elections. Going forward you will see more of these meetings with other opposition political players.
On speculations that the meeting discussed coalitions or working together; currently, there are no discussions on a coalition but we are of the view that to push out an authoritarian regime like ZANU PF, the opposition must unite and vote in numbers so that the will of the people will be respected.
As you have seen in the upcoming by-elections, the MDC-T took a principled and deliberate position not to field candidates because we don’t want to further split the opposition vote.
Finally, the meeting agreed that this time around (going to 2023) all genuine opposition political parties will have a common approach to voter registration, delimitation, and electoral reforms.

Responding to one of his followers on Twitter, CCC Change Champion in Chief, Nelson Chamisa, said he had not been briefed about the meeting.

The opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) has finally spoken on a photo of the party’s vice president Welshman Ncube who was pictured with former MDC-T vice president Thokozani Khupe and former MDC-T organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe seemingly emerging from a meeting.

CCC was responding specifically to a Twitter user, Dakarai Chikara, who had expressed disappointment over the picture. <a href="https://twitter.com/dakaraichikara/status/1493830036394229760">Chikara said:</a>

Disappointed with that picture. Please, we do’t want Khupe in @CCCZimbabwe, she has done more damage to our struggle. Moving away from MDC was a cleansing ceremony.

Commenting on the photo, freelance journalist Hopewell Chin’ono cryptically said Khupe’s “dress sense is consistent”. <a href="https://twitter.com/daddyhope/status/1493825106220625922">Wrote Chin’ono:</a>

CCC Speaks On Welshman Ncube, Thokozani Khupe Viral Picture

Former MDC-T organising secretary <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Abednico_Bhebhe">Abednico Bhebhe</a> escaped death by the skin of his teeth on Sunday evening when he was involved in a car accident that saw his vehicle fell off a cliff and rolled a couple of times along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway.
The former Nkayi South legislator is currently admitted at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo where he is receiving medical care.
Speaking to Southern Eye, Bhebhe said he was in the company of two relatives when the accident happened. They are admitted at United Bulawayo Hospitals. Said Bhebhe:
<blockquote>
A vehicle had encroached into my lane so I was trying to avoid a head-on collision. We could have died in the head-on collision had it not been because of a miracle. It is a miracle how we survived the car accident.
… We thank God we survived the car crash even though the driver who caused the accident did not stop at the scene as far as we were told.
</blockquote>
He said they were on their way to Bulawayo when the accident happened.
Bhebhe was expelled from the MDC-T before the party’s December elective congress after he had announced plans to contest the party presidency, which was then being led by Thokozani Khupe.
His expulsion followed claims that he was working with the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa, even though he denied the claims.
MDC Alliance Matabeleland North chairperson Prince Dubeko Sibanda recently told Southern Eye that Bhebhe was now backing the Chamisa camp.

Former MDC-T Top Official Survives Car Crash

Former MDC-T Organising Secretary, Abednico Bhebhe has dismissed claims which suggest that he rejoined the opposition MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa.
Media reports suggested Bhebhe who was <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/14/full-text-mdc-t-expels-abednico-bhebhe/">expelled from MDC-T</a> shortly before the party’s chaotic Extraordinary congress (EOC) held in December last year had joined the Chamisa-led outfit.
In a statement, Bhebhe dismissed the reports but insisted his call for the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) factions to regroup to remove the ruling ZANU PF from power. He said:
<blockquote>It is common sense that only a united opposition can electorally dislodge the ruinous ZANU PF regime and usher an accountable government in its place. This is what the suffering majority want, and I am merely articulating the aspirations of the generality of Zimbabweans as a politician. My stand on unity of the MDC as well as of all oppositional forces is known by all the various leaders of our once glorious movement.
Those opposed to the principle of constitutionalism and unity of the MDC have chosen to target me as a person and not the principle that I espouse. They prefer not to play the ball but harm a player. All done to give politics a dirty name when it is simple greed, manipulation and lack of character.
Against this backdrop, it is silly and mischievous if not devious too, to suggest that Abednico Bhebhe has joined the MDC Alliance. I remain where I have always been and consistently so since 2017 when the discord began, I stand for unity of the MDC which is the only avenue to consign ZANU PF to the dustbin of history come 2023.
Out of ignorance or malice, perhaps a combination of both, some have created an impression that I have 3 hop knobbed from one party to another. As far as I am concerned, I have stood by my beliefs which have not changed, and they are not about to change. I have worked with progress people across the factional divide, and I do not regret it and will continue to do so as long as that would yield a stronger opposition against the heinous ZANU PF.</blockquote>
In February this year, reports suggested <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/02/09/bhebhe-speaks-on-mdc-t-expulsion-eoc-his-purported-readmission-full-statement/">Bhebhe had been re-admitted into the MDC-T</a> but he also dismissed the reports.
His remarks come when the opposition in the country is in disarray with analysts urging them to reunite to avoid embarrassment in 2023 when the country returns to the polls.

Bhebhe Denies Joining Chamisa's MDC Alliance

MDC founding politician and former legislator Abednico Bhebhe has rejoined the Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance.
MDC Alliance Matebeleland North provincial spokesperson Mhlonipheki Ncube confirmed the development during an interview with NewZimbabwe.com Monday. Ncube said:
<blockquote>In a nutshell, Mr Bhebhe has been generally welcomed by all Matebeleland North structures and are looking forward to working with him very well.
He is a hard worker notwithstanding his weaknesses. He knows how to mobilise and that is what we are looking at.</blockquote>
Bhebhe, who was the national organising secretary, was expelled from the then Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T a few weeks before the party’s chaotic extraordinary congress that was held on 27 December last year.
He was fired on allegations of violating the party’s constitution by supporting another political party other than the MDC-T.
Bhebhe was in 2005 among some party legislators who split from the then Morgan Tsvangirai led MDC.
He, among other MDC leaders who were predominantly from the Matabeleland provinces, opposed Tsvangirai’s decision to boycott the country’s senatorial elections that were being reintroduced by the government at the time.
He later rejoined the Tsvangirai led MDC but left the party again in 2018 alongside Khupe and a few bigwigs to revive the MDC-T which was then led by Khupe.

'Nomadic' Abednico Bhebhe Rejoins MDC Alliance

Former MDC-T National Chairperson, Abednico Bhebhe has refuted claims that he was re-admitted into the opposition MDC-T led by<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora"> Douglas Mwonzora</a>. 
Bhebhe was <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/14/full-text-mdc-t-expels-abednico-bhebhe/">expelled from the party</a> shortly before the party’s chaotic Extraordinary congress (EOC) held in December last year. Abedinico Bhebhe issued the statement below. 
<blockquote>RESPONSE TO THE STATEMENT ON MR ABEDNICO BHEBHE’S PURPORTED RE-ADMISSION TO MDC-T
Fellow Comrades, Members of our Principled Party and the public in general, allow me to express my humble appreciation for all the support and encouragement you have continued to give me. I really appreciate it and sincerely grateful.
Following an MDC-T press release (06/02/2021) and the import of its content, I have felt it necessary to respond and clarify on certain perceptions created by that statement either deliberately or inadvertently.
Under normal circumstances, I would not be addressing such matters through the media but since like all readers I also learnt of the purported re-admission through the press, it leaves me with no other option but to respond in kind.
For the benefit of all, the cardinal rule for any re-admission of an expelled member, as provided for in the party constitution is for that concerned member to make an appeal in the next congress.
For the record, I did not appeal and had no intention whatsoever to appeal to the EOC because of its chaotic and shambolic nature.
The supposed resolution to re-admit me in MDC-T as an ordinary party member is not only a violation of the party constitution, unless of course if the said gathering amended that clause as well, but more concerning is the devious portrayal as well as battering my character as if am a desperate politician seeking someone’s benevolence.
That is unacceptable and should 600 10 unchallenged. Here are some basic facts that expose the infantile attempt to manipulate information for self-serving purposes:
1) It is on public record that I was expelled from the party for my incessant calls to all MDC leaders to take advantage of the Supreme Court judgment to settle our differences and unite against the common enemy. My plea resonated with most of our members. On a unifying crusade, I successfully contested and resoundingly won the first round of nominations in Bulawayo for presidency. Immediately I was summarily suspended and thereafter expelled.
2) I stated very clearly in an interview with Newsday (07/04/2020), that I would not be comfortable to be the organising secretary of a divided MDC. If the leadership could not find each other then I was not going to participate in EOC since that would be playing into the hands of ZAN U PF.
3) Approximately three-quarters of the 2014 delegates were stopped from participating in the EOC just because they were backing my candidature.
4) The party constitution was flagrantly violated and Douglas Mworaora’s leadership is disputed because of the serious irregularities that accompanied the shameful elections. Irregularities that could have been avoided particularly by those masquerading as democrats. Not only was the voters’ roll shambolic but there was no quorum for the EOC which was characterised by violence among many other shortcomings.
5) I approached the High Court to challenge my suspension and subsequent expulsion which paved the way for other contestants to hold the EOC without my participation.
That deprived me of my administrative and constitutional rights while it gave unfair advantage to Mr Douglas Mwonzora to contest for the highest party office having eliminated the participation of the main challenger whose victory was beyond doubt.
6) My constitutional rights were put under siege by the very National Council and I immediately lost the opportunity to contest for the presidency. What has changed NOW that I would renege on my pursuit of Justice and submit to it rigged leadership?
In view of the aforementioned points, I want to make it categorically clear that I do not recognize the outcome of the 27Th December 2020 EOC and hence the so-called National Council has no legal mandate to readmit to what I do not even recognize.
As far as I am concerned the EOC elections were not conducted and hence the amendment of the constitution illegitimate.
My position is that the party must sit down and elect an interim leader pending it proper EOC, where every willing member is given a chance to vote or contest for the presidency.

Bhebhe Speaks On MDC-T Expulsion, EOC & His Purported Readmission - Full Statement

Former MDC-T organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe has said he is yet to be notified of his readmission to the party.
Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com, the former Nkayi MP said he has only seen reports of his re-admission to the MDC-T on social media. Bhebhe said:
<blockquote>I have not received anything from MDC-T. I cannot respond to such an issue from a social media article.
I will give a full response once I receive official communication from MDC-T.</blockquote>
Bhebhe was expelled from the party in November 2020 over allegations of “grossly violating the constitution of the party by supporting another political party other than the MDC-T”.
He had been suspended from his position as acting national organising secretary on 29 October before he was eventually expelled.
But in a statement over the weekend, party secretary for information and publicity, Witness Dube said Bhebhe and former Bulawayo deputy provincial chair Dorcas Sibanda were re-admitted into the party after a virtual national council meeting held on Saturday. Said, Dube:
<blockquote>Notably, former national organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe and former Deputy Chairperson of Bulawayo Province Dorcas Sibanda were duly readmitted into the party as per their expression of interest.</blockquote>

Abednico Bhebhe 'Unaware' Of His MDC-T Readmission

MDC-T’s former organising secretary, Abednico Bhebhe has suffered a huge setback in his bid to stop the party’s interim leadership from holding the Supreme Court-sanctioned Extraoridanry congress.
This comes after the Bulawayo High Court postponed the hearing of his urgent chamber application to next week when the congress is scheduled for this weekend.
Bhebhe who was recently expelled from the party for allegedly dining with the rival MDC Alliance is aspiring to be the heir to the late party founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Christopher Dube Banda postponed the matter to next week after the respondents’ lawyer, Tawanda Tawengwa argued that the respondents could not prepare their opposing papers because they were served with the applicant‘s court papers late on Tuesday.
The former Nkayi South legislator cited interim party president, Thokozani Khupe as the first respondent, while the party chairperson Morgen Komichi and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T), in that order were cited as second and third respondents.
Meanwhile, Bhebhe’s lawyer Nqobani Sithole however, said they had “plan B” but could not divulge the details of the said plan B.  Sithole said:
<blockquote>We have taken into cognisance that by the time all these will happen, the congress would have taken place and our client is confident that there is a plan B. We have discussed this option at large and we will spring a suprise.</blockquote>
If he manages to contest for the presidency, he will be in the race together with Khupe, Komichi, Elias Mudzuri and reinstated party secretary-general, Douglas Mwonzora.
The departure of Morgan Tsvangirai left a power vacuum in the biggest opposition party in the country and has seen Khupe and Nelson Chamisa of MDC Alliance wrangling for the party leadership.
The leadership crisis spilt into the courts with the Supreme Court this March ordering the MDC to hold an elective Extraordinary congress.

Bhebhe Suffers Setback In Bid To Stop MDC-T Congress

Expelled MDC-T organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe, pictured, has filed an urgent chamber application at the Bulawayo High Court seeking to stop the opposition party from holding its Supreme Court directed extra-ordinary congress.
The extra-ordinary congress has been set for 19 December 2020 at Harare’s Rainbow Towers where the party is seeking to elect a new leader to replace the late Morgan Tsvangirai.
In his urgent chamber application, Bhebhe is seeking the postponement of the extraordinary congress until his challenge against expulsion from the party is determined.
Acting party president Thokozani Khupe, national chairman Morgen Komichi and the MDC-T were cited as 1st, 2nd and 3rd respondents respectively.
Bhebhe’s urgent chamber application filed through his lawyers Ncube and Attorneys on last Friday reads in part:
<blockquote>The Applicant’s suspension and expulsion from the office of National Organising Secretary and membership of the 3rd respondent having been reviewed and set aside in HC 1973/20 and HC 2119/20.
Applicant be and is hereby reinstated to his membership and office of National Organising Secretary of the 3rd Respondent.
Pending the determination of Applicant’s for review filed under cover of case numbers HC 1973/20 and HC 2119/20. 1st, 2nd and 3rd Respondents be and are hereby interdicted from convening a Congress to elect the 3rd Respondent’s President.
As a consequence of the order in (1)   above, the 3rd Respondent’s Congress to elect the 3rd Respondent’s President scheduled for the 19th of December 2020, be and is hereby held in abeyance, till applications for review filed under covers of case numbers HC 1973/20 and HC 2119/20 are determined.</blockquote>
Bhebhe was expelled from the party last month on allegations of “grossly violating the constitution of the party by supporting another political party other than the MDC-T”.
The former Nkayi legislator was considered a threat by the other presidential aspirants after garnering 170 votes to acting president Khupe’s 39 votes and secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora’s 7 votes during the Bulawayo province nomination process.

Bhebhe Seeks To Block MDC-T Extraordinary Congress

MDC-T national organising secretary, Abednico Bhebhe is challenging his recent expulsion from the party for allegedly siding with MDC Alliance members Gilbert Kagodora and Nason Mamuse, who want the High Court to force party president Thokozani Khupe to release key information about the extraordinary congress (EOC).
Bhebhe was expelled from the party on Saturday last week after he exposed an alleged plot to manipulate the forthcoming EOC which is meant to choose a new leader to succeed the late founding president Morgan Tsvangirai.
Bhebhe has since filed an application at the High Court in Bulawayo challenging the expulsion and cited Khupe, Morgen Komichi, the party’s national chairperson and MDC-T as respondents.
In his founding affidavit, Bhebhe argued that he was being punished for accusing Khupe and Komichi of wiping out party funds totalling ZW$7 million. He said:
<blockquote>An objective view of the matter also shows that there is evident bias in suspending me without any specific reasons to justify the suspension.
There was bias in the manner in which the first respondent (Khupe) carried out my suspension without any reasons due to the complaint that I had previously written and her animosity towards me.
This is an application to review the exercise of the first respondent’s powers in terms of section 9.1.2.3 of the MDC-T constitution which allows her to suspend me from my position as national organising secretary on reasonable grounds for breach of the party’s constitution, rules and regulations.
I aver and submit that my suspension from that position by the first respondent via a letter dated 29 October 2020 is reviewable for various reasons.</blockquote>

MDC-T acting president Thokozani Khupe has been accused of employing undemocratic tactics adopted by ZANU PF in silencing internal dissenting voices.
Bulawayo-based human rights activist and political analyst, Mbuso Fuzwayo made the accusation following the expulsion of the party’s organising secretary, Abednico Bhebhe by the MDC-T national council last Saturday. Said Fuzwayo:
<blockquote>It is unfortunate that those who claim to be democrats and constitutionalists can be found to be using ZANU PF tactics of silencing opponents through suspensions or expulsions. How was he allowed to contest and how do you expel a competitor if you are a democrat?
These guys are clearly copying the Zanu PF script that if you are losing in internal elections, you use the army like what happened in 2017. This is exactly what these guys have done.
If they were really democrats, voters were supposed to have rejected Bhebhe, not those whom he is competing with. That is a gross abuse of positions.</blockquote>
Bhebhe was expelled after he accused Khupe and the national chairperson Morgen Komichi of wiping out $7 million in party funds.
Last weekend the MDC-T abandoned the Bulawayo province’s extraordinary nomination process citing massive electoral fraud by Khupe.
Bhebhe has accrued more presidential votes when the process was abandoned.

MDC-T secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora has defended the expulsion of organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe from the party, saying if he thinks the move was unlawful, he can go to court or use other remedies.
Mwonzora also dismissed accusations that he was manipulating the election process to choose the late Morgan Tsvangirai’s successor. He said:
<blockquote>First and foremost, we have acted above board in accordance with the law.
Bhebhe himself participated in virtual meetings.
If he thinks that we acted unlawfully, he can find recourse in the courts or any other remedies.
The other thing is that we held the meeting virtually because of fear of exposure to COVID-19.
Secondly, it’s less expensive to hold virtual meetings and, thirdly, those who have wanted to use violence were unable to use that violence.</blockquote>
Mwonzora also said the party has abandoned using the provincial councils for nomination and decided to use the national council.
Meanwhile, a presidential candidate, who spoke on condition of anonymity, criticised the new nomination process.
He argued that using the national council instead of provincial councils is a departure from both tradition and procedure in the party.

Mwonzora Defends Move To Expel Abednico Bhebhe

A senior MDC-T official has accused the party’s interim leader Thokozani Khupe and secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora of playing dirty ahead of the extraordinary congress that was ordered by the Supreme Court early this year.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official, who is contesting for the presidency, said the new nomination process that has been adopted is a departure from both tradition and procedure in the party.
He argued that the expulsion from the party of one of the contestants, Abedinico Bhebhe, the acting organising secretary, was in violation of party procedures. He said:
<blockquote>It must be stated categorically that according to the MDC constitution, a standing committee member can only be expelled by a two-thirds vote of the national council in a secret ballot.
There is no substitution for this provision in the constitution of the MDC.</blockquote>
Bhebhe was expelled from the party on Saturday “for grossly violating the constitution of the party [by] supporting another political party other than the MDC-T”.
The MDC-T also announced that Khupe, Mwonzora, party chairman Morgen Komichi and former Harare mayor Elias Mudzuri were nominated for the presidency.
The MDC-T has been holding meetings via WhatsApp ostensibly to avoid the risk of the novel coronavirus.

MDC-T Presidential Nominee Says Bhebhe's Expulsion Was Unprocedural

The National Council of the opposition MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe has expelled Abednico Bhebhe from the party over gross violation of the party’s constitution by supporting another political party other than the MDC T. Below are the resolutions of the MDC-T National Council meeting.
<blockquote>Upholding and Respecting the Supreme Court Judgment (SC56/2020) which ordered the holding of an Extraordinary Congress in terms of the party constitution to elect a substantive replacement for the late Party President Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.
Acknowledging the same Supreme Court judgement recognises the existence of the constitution of the MDC without any qualifications.
Affirming that the Supreme Court judgement doesn’t entail deviating from the clear provisions of our constitution.
Realising that some members of the Party have left the party and joined or formed other political parties and that by that fact alone the said members have renounced their membership of the party.
Acknowledging the resolutions of the National Council Meeting of 9 May 2020, which meeting resolved to
a. acknowledge the 31st March 2020 Supreme Court judgment
b. go for the ordered Extraordinary Congress in line with the party constitution
c. recall those elected members, in parliament and local government, who have chosen to join or support other parties.

MDC-T interim leader Thokozani Khupe has reportedly suspended the holding of nominations in Matabeleland North and Midlands South provinces citing the coronavirus crisis and a police interdiction to the ongoing nominations.
However, reports claim that Khupe decided to shelve the nominations following the surprise win by party organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe in nominations for the presidency held in Bulawayo over the weekend.
Bustop TV reported that efforts to get a comment from MDC-T and Khupe’s spokesperson Khaliphani Phugeni were unsuccessful as he did not respond to the questions sent to him.
Unnamed party insiders who spoke to the publication said the trio of Khupe, secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora and national chairman Morgan Komichi were shocked by Bhebhe’s unexpected victory in Bulawayo.
Bhebhe reportedly secured 170 nominations, followed by Khupe with 35 and Mwonzora a distant third with 7, while Komichi and former Harare mayor Elias Mudzuri got zero nominations between them.
A political analyst, Malcolm Ziki, opined that Bhebhe has remained true to MDC founding values and is untainted with accusations of working with the ruling ZANU PF party like his rivals. Said Ziki:
<blockquote>There is no doubt that Bhebhe might surprise many in this race. From his fights with his fellow leaders, he sounded very true to the MDC founding values. He sounds a unifier. 'Bruised' Khupe Suspends MDC-T Nominations

MDC-T organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe has reportedly secured Bulawayo Province nomination for the party presidency in internal polls conducted on Sunday.
Bhebhe beat four other candidates, among them acting president Thokozani Khupe and interim secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora.
Even though official results had not yet been announced by Monday, reports suggest that Bhebhe had garnered enough votes to make him the winner against Khupe, Mwonzora, acting party chairperson Morgen Komichi and former organising secretary Elias Mudzuri.
Bhebhe reportedly secured 170 nominations, followed by Khupe with 35 and Mwonzora a distant third with 7, while Komichi and Mudzuri got zero nominations between them. Bhebhe had this to say:

MDC-T national organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe announced his intention to run for the presidency at the party’s belated extraordinary congress set to be held before November 30.
An MDC-T standing committee meeting recommended Bhebhe’s suspension after he accused interim president Thokozani Khupe and national chairperson Morgen Komichi of wiping out party funds totalling $7 million. But a defiant Bhebhe confirmed on Thursday that he will run for the presidency. He said:
<blockquote>Yes, it is true I am contesting for the party presidency at the forthcoming extraordinary congress.</blockquote>
Bhebhe will come up against four other candidates who include Khupe, Komichi, secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora and former national organising secretary Elias Mudzuri.
The MDC-T is set to hold an extraordinary congress after it was ordered by the Supreme Court to elect a leader to replace the late Morgan Tsvangirai who died in 2018.
The extraordinary congress was initially supposed to be held within 90 days of the Supreme Court order that was delivered on March 31 but coronavirus restrictions hindered the holding of the congress.

The Party Leadership Should Not Be Afraid Of Being Told The Truth - Bhebhe On The MDC T Disciplinary Action

The MDC T 2014 structures which was resurrected by the Supreme Court in March has vowed to take legal action against 2 party members  Abednico Bhebhe and Paul Gorekore for destabilisation of the party and bringing the party into disrepute New Zimbabwe reports.
This was revealed by the party’s secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora who said this during an MDC T resolutions Press Conference:

The leadership hereby ordered to commence and pursue disciplinary action against these two in terms of the party constitution.

MDC T Vows To Take Disciplinary Action Against Gorekore And Bhebhe

MDC-T 2014 national organising secretary, Abednico Bhebhe has claimed that the party’s interim president and chairperson, in that order, Thokozani Khupe and Morgen Komichi “wiped out” the party’s $7.5 million received under the Political Parties Act.
Bhebhe made the remarks in his court affidavit after Khupe, Komichi and himself were taken to court by disgruntled party members, Gilbert Kagodora and Nason Mamuse, for hiding critical information regarding the extraordinary congress slated for December. Bhebhe said:
<blockquote>1st Respondent (MDC-T) opened and now operates books of accounts without reference whatsoever to the National Executive as is required by the constitution.
In fact, 1st Respondent received from the Government of Zimbabwe, under the Political Finances Act, whooping Seven Million Five Hundred Thousand Zimbabwean dollars which 2nd (Khupe) and 3rd (Komichi) Respondents wiped clean outside the mandate and framework of 1st Respondent’s constitution.</blockquote>

MDC-T 2014 national organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe has distanced himself from the political dynamics in the party saying the interim leader and chairperson, in that order, Thokozani Khupe and Morgen Komichi were responsible.

Bhebhe said the applicants’ concerns were justified as the party leaders were not being faithful in their handling of congress details. He said:

Bhebhe accused Khupe and Komichi of openly disregarding the MDC-T constitution and abusing the national standing committee by pushing through committee decisions that are under the purview of the national executive and/or the national council meeting.
Kagodora and Mamuse approached the courts after interim secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora had indicated that MDC Alliance legislators and councillors that were recently recalled by MDC-T were not eligible to contest at the congress despite being in the party’s 2014 structures.
MDC-T is expected to hold the Supreme Court sanctioned Extraordinary Congress in December to elect the successor to the party’s founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai who succumbed to cancer in 2018.

Bhebhe Throws Khupe, Komichi Under The Bus

MDC-T acting national organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe has urged the party’s leadership to respect the concerns of dozens of party youths who occupied the Richard Morgan Tsvangirai House, formerly Harvest House on Sunday night.
The youths, previously aligned to the judicially-reconstructed MDC-T, seized the building and demanded a restoration of constitutionalism in the party and accused MDC-T interim leader Thokozani Khupe and her colleagues of betraying party supporters by working with the ruling ZANU PF party.
In a statement on Monday, Bhebhe also called on anti-riot police to leave the entrance of the opposition headquarters and stop interfering with the party’s internal affairs. He said:
<blockquote>We note the position taken by the youth of the MDC in its collective sense. We note their concerns, in particular, the possible infiltration of the party with the intention of derailing its objectives.
They have expressed concern about the unilateral conduct and decision making of senior leaders without involving the organs of the party such as the National Executive and National Council.
Such unilateral decisions involve, among others, the recall of MPs and Councillors without the authority of the National Council and the purported preparation of the Extraordinary Congress without involving the National Council which is constitutionally mandated to supervise and direct this process.
Their (youths) demands are not unreasonable as they talk to the need for senior leaders to respect the organs of the party and its constitution.
In this respect, I am calling upon the Acting President, Acting Chairman and the Secretary-General to take the necessary steps to urgently convene the 2014 National Executive and National Council as it was composed on February 15 2014.
May I also urge State institutions such as the police not to interfere in the internal affairs of political parties.
In this regard, I ask that the Commissioner-General instructs the police to leave our premises.</blockquote>

Senior MDC-T Official Backs Harvest House Seizure

MDC-T organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe has criticised acting party leader Thokozani Khupe and secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora for their obsession with recalling MDC Alliance (MDC-A) MPs and councillors instead of focusing on rebuilding the party.
Bhebhe asserted that the MDC-T leadership has lost direction and it is making a bad situation worse by weakening an already fragile party. He said:
<blockquote>I have refused to be part of that circus where the top leadership is obsessed with mindlessly recalling party members without concentrating on rebuilding it.
All they have done since the court ruling is to recall while no programme to develop the organisation has been considered. The recalls are damaging an already fragile party.
I have always made it a point that I speak my mind in the standing committee and other platforms because it makes my job as a national organising secretary difficult.
I have opposed the behaviour that has now permeated to provinces where individuals just come up with names to say so and so must be recalled so that someone is seen as wielding a lot of power hence members are obliged to follow them when we eventually go to congress for fear of being recalled.</blockquote>
Khupe’s MDC-T has used the Supreme Court ruling that stripped Nelson Chamisa of the presidency of the party in March, to recall 21 MPs and several councillors from the MDC-A for refusing to toe her line.
Khupe’s MDC-T lost dismally to Chamisa’s MDC-A in the 2018 harmonised elections yet she has taken over her rival’s party.

Opposition MDC-T chairperson Abednico Bhebhe has said President Mnangagwa’s anti-corruption campaign is designed to hoodwink the public into believing that the government is committed to fighting graft in the country.

A senior official in the opposition MDC-T, Abednico Bhebhe has expressed pessimism over the prospects of economic recovery under the governing ZANU PF.

<blockquote>Muvundisi: Is there any hope for Zimbabwe in light of the economic crisis we are facing and where do you think Zanu PF got it wrong? 
Bhebhe: I could not be far away from the truth to say that there appears to be very few ideas left or absolutely nothing to talk about in terms of economic recovery under the Zanu PF government.
(President Emmersn) Mnangagwa’s administration seems intent, instead, to crush any dissent from Zimbabweans who want to know when he is going to deal with unbridled corruption and deliver on his promises.
The Zanu PF government got it all wrong with policy inconsistency, State corruption and general misrule as the major plausible cause of economic regression.
The policy of unplanned land seizures and the chaotic distribution of farms scared away most, if not all foreign investors and chased most of the talented and experienced workforce out of the country.
It can hardly be a coincidence that the economy began its precipitous fall just after Zanu PF unleashed a wave of politically- motivated violence and repression directed against anyone opposed to its misrule.
Unfortunately, the management and economic downturn continues to date and the lunacy will continue to cost Zimbabwe until Zanu PF is removed from power.</blockquote>

"No Prospects Of Economic Recovery Under The Zanu PF Government," - MDC-T Leader

Outspoken MDC-T organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe said that the late former president Robert Mugabe and his predecessor President Emmerson Mnangagwa have similar traits, namely, the refusal to adopt necessary reforms to resolve the country’s challenges.
Speaking during an interview with the Daily News on Sunday Staff Writer Jeffrey Muvundusi, Bhebhe stated that under Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe will likely continue down a path of political polarisation, protests, political violence at the hands of the State. He said:
<blockquote>I personally would characterise the rise or replacement of Mugabe by Mnangagwa as putting lipstick on a pig.
In other words, Mnangagwa is paying lip service to reforms in the hope of securing regional and international support, but staunchly refusing to implement any measures that might harm his and his backers’ political and economic interests, typical Mugabe’s style during his 37 years of misrule.
Like Mugabe’s administration, Mnangagwa’s government continues to prevent and violently suppress political protests and the State media remains heavily biased in favour of the ruling party, as do other systems.
Some people are even saying that Mnangagwa is in many ways governing in a more sophisticated repressive and cruel manner than his predecessor.
Within his two years in power, armed forces have cracked down on several occasions with several people killed and thousands arrested.
Political manipulation and distortion of the economy continue unabated. It is my firm belief that Zimbabweans are still like passengers on board the same bus, but what changed were the drivers.
The country is likely to continue down a path of political polarisation, protests, political violence at the hands of the State and further economic deterioration worse than before.
In short, Mnangagwa and Mugabe are just two sides of the same coin.</blockquote>

<div dir="ltr">Bhebhe described the move as disturbing, divisive and uncalled for adding that it is only meant to block some officials from attending the congress. Speaking to Daily News, Bhebhe said:</div>

<div dir="ltr">The court judgment speaks to two formations — one led by Khupe and the other led by Chamisa and I do not understand how anyone can be said to belong to the MDC Alliance party.</div>

<div dir="ltr">Delegates from both formations are entitled to be delegates as long as they were part of the 2014 structures.</div>

<div dir="ltr">Bhebhe added that since he was the one responsible for drawing up the list of delegates, he will not for hands while members who are entitled to attend the congress are being blocked.</div>

He encouraged the leadership to shun divisive tactics urging them to take measures to unite members.</div>

"Both MDC-A, MDC-T Members Are Entitled To Be Congress Delegates," - MDC Organising Secretary

The newly reinstated MDC-T national organising secretary, Abednico Bhebhe who is also an ally of Thokozani Khupe is reportedly against the holding of an extraordinary congress.
The congress was, as ordered by the Supreme Court, meant to elect a new president to replace the late founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai.
Bhebhe told New Zimbabwe in an interview that the divisions in the party work to the advantage of the ruling ZANU PF. He said:
<blockquote>The current situation plays well into the hands of Zanu PF. Zanu PF always thrives on a divided opposition. In my view, the best way to solve this political impasse is for the two warring MDC factions to sit down and dialogue. The party needs to re-unite itself and be strong like what it was when it was formed in 1999.</blockquote>
He also said that Khupe and Nelson Chamisa must have a dialogue to iron out their differences. He added that the party structures must be in agreement on the course of action to be taken.
Douglas Mwonzora, Morgen Komichi and Elias Mudzuri are the senior party officials who have so far rallied behind Supreme Court ruling which reinstated Khupe as the party leader.

Khupe's Ally Against The Idea That MDC Should Hold An Extraordinary Congress

Scores of supporters of the MDC-T led by Dr Thokozani Khupe are reportedly seeking readmission at the MDC-A led by advocate Nelson Chamisa.
MDC A Matebeleland North Provincial organising secretary, Goshen Zhou, who is also Victoria Falls councillor for ward 11, told News Day on Tuesday that they have since received phone calls from those who wanted to defect. Zhou said:
<blockquote>We have received a number of calls from MDC-T supporters who want to defect from the party to MDC Alliance. They have expressed their desire to come back.
Some of them have approached the provincial leadership begging to be allowed back into the party. We have requested that they put their applications in writing and we are still waiting for their letters.</blockquote>
News Day reports that some highly placed sources claimed that those who wanted to desert the party were citing lack of direction and the party’s participation in President Mnangagwa-led political dialogue, POLAD.
The claims have however been refuted by MDC-T national chairman, Abednico Bhebhe, who described them as blatant lies. Bhebhe said:
<blockquote>The first mistake, have they shown you the letters of those people whom they are claiming to be joining MDC Alliance? Two, who are those people? Three, they must be celebrating that Zanu PF, the party that has caused us all problems are joining them, not another opposition party.</blockquote>
