The founder of the Affirmative Action Group (AAG), Philip Chiyangwa has revealed that he will next month announce the group’s new executive after the terms of current executives expired.
Chiyangwa spoke to New Zimbabwe in an interview and he thoroughly thought of replacements to the Chamu Chiwanza-led executive committee. The prominent businessman and Zanu PF politician said:
<blockquote>I think for a long time now I have been under so much pressure with respect to the appointment of the Affirmative Action Group new executive.
Two years ago, I had to rethink about the objectives and the mission of this organisation and I have come to the conclusion that in February 2020, I will be making the announcement of a new executive.</blockquote>
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Affirmative_Action_Group">AAG was formed 26 years ago to promote black economic empowerment</a> and former Cabinet ministers Supa Mandiwanzira as AAG President while Patrick Zhuwao and Saviour Kasukuwere were once a Vice Presidents, at different times, of AAG.
AAG was radical in its approach and used more stridently nationalistic language. It was however criticised for representing the interests of its leadership, Chiyangwa, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Peter_Pamire">Peter Pamire</a>, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Saviour_Kasukuwere" title="Saviour Kasukuwere">Kasukuwere</a> than a broader empowerment vision.

Affirmative Action Group Founder, Philip Chiyangwa To Announce New Executive

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said that despite various resources at Zimbabwe’s disposal, the development of the nation would need assistance from foreign investors.
The president added that it was not prudent for Zimbabwe to embark on the economic resuscitation agenda on its own as that would only delay the process.
He was speaking after taking part in the ninth edition of the National Environment Cleaning Day at Ashbrittle Shopping Centre in Mt Pleasant, Harare on Friday. He said:
<blockquote>We want a better future, we want the next generation to live a better life than ourselves and to do so the current generation, united as a country, as a people, we put our heads together and shoulders on the wheel to develop, to modernise, to industrialise our country.
We can do that and achieve that on our own, depending on our resources but alas, the pace at which we develop would be very slow. That’s why we have said ‘Zimbabwe is open for business’ in order to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country and assist us to develop the various sectors of the economy, agriculture, mining, tourism, manufacturing, infrastructure development and ICTs.</blockquote>
He, however, said that FDI should come without any conditions attached. Mnangagwa also observed that Zimbabwe can only have the bargaining power if the nation was speaking with one voice.
His remarks come when the Affirmative Action Group has vehemently opposed the repealing of the Indigenisation Act saying that would result in the exploitation of Zimbabweans and siphoning of resources to other countries.

It Takes Ages To Develop Zimbabwe On Our Own - President Mnangagwa

Affirmative Action Group president Mr. Chamu Chiwanza has said the youth must avoid relying too much on the government.
Chiwanza was addressing youths and Chinhoyi University of Technology students last week at an event organised by former Junior Minister of State for Mashonaland West Denzel Kawanzaruwa.
Chiwanza added that the youth must always aim to go beyond their current challenges. He said:
<blockquote>Our youths are the future. Use what you have to your best and pursue dreams without fear as young entrepreneurs. Mediocrity has become our new standard of excellence. There is nothing you can do to change the current situation but you have to move from inadequacy mentality and aim higher.</blockquote>
Speaking at the same event, Kawanzaruwa said that the youth should live a life with a purpose. He also said that the event was apolitical and was motivated by business people who started their businesses from nothing. He said:

<blockquote>We are urging all youths in Zimbabwe and the province in particular to live life with a purpose and take it to another level while avoiding on relying too much on Government.</blockquote>

The Youth Told To Move From Inadequacy Mentality & Aim Higher

Affirmative Action Group (AAG) has said that Government must reconsider the amendment of the Indigenisation Act.
Presenting the 2018 National Budget, Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa said the Indigenisation Act will be amended to confine the 51/49 threshold to only the two minerals, namely diamonds and platinum, in the extractive sector. However, AAG said that Government should consider introducing a 10% and 30% for locals to benefit in other sectors. Said AAG Matabeleland Chapter president Reginald Shoko:
<blockquote>While we welcome the proposals to lure foreign direct investment through the scrapping of the threshold of indigenisation, we believe the Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa is taking it too much. Indigenisation cannot be allowed to die a natural death. We require the locals to partake in the expansion of our economy and we propose that the threshold be reduced to between 10% and 30% and in some cases, management contracts must be given to locals in order to utilise the human capital we have as a country.</blockquote>

"Govt should reconsider Indigenisation Act amendment"

Businessman and president of the Affirmative Action Group, Chamu Chiwanza, won the Zimbabwe Business Leadership Excellence Legacy Award at the Zimbabwe Leadership Awards last night. Speaking after the awards ceremony, Chiwanza said:
<blockquote>I am happy that I inspire other people with my very humble way of doing things. I want to the Zimbabwe Leadership Awards organisers and the leadership of this country especially President Mugabe who has allowed young people like me opportunities to pursue our dreams through various empowerment initiatives.</blockquote>

Chamu Chiwanza wins Business Leadership Excellence Legacy Award

Local empowerment group the Affirmative Action Group (AAG) says that it is prepared to take the sale of shares in Barclays Bank to First Mutual Bank of Malawi, to the highest office in the land. The AAG said it was going to challenge the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) after RBZ Governor J<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/06/13/barclays-deal-legal-complies-indigenisation-reserve-bank/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">ohn Mangudya said that the transaction was above board and complied with the country’s indigenisation laws.</a>
At a press conference on Tuesday, AAG President Chamu Chiwanza said:
<blockquote>We have taken note of the events that have taken place over the past weeks with great concern.
What is worrisome to us is the lack of participation in the indigenisation and empowerment policy which has been grossly ignored by some parties or formulations of power to completely disregard the law.
The law is the law. And the law says that locals have the right of first refusal. 
If we are not careful, Zimbabwe might be going back to a structured colonisation
…They must interrogate why there is no local in the (Barclays) sale. We are taking it to the highest office of the land.
Government will heed our call and observe the interest of the public. It must not segregate
So, we are defeating ourselves. This is the only country in Africa which is not consistent with its policies.
Zimbabwe is good at putting policies on paper but very bad in implementing them. Does the indigenisation law still exist?</blockquote>

AAG to challenge RBZ over sale of Barclays Bank, says it's “recolonisation of the economy"

Local empowerment group Affirmative Action Group (AAG), yesterday launched a Women’s Desk of the organisation. The desk was launched at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Harare, in order to empower women.
Saliwe Njolomole who will be heading the desk said:
<blockquote>The empowerment of women remains at the center of the framework of women’s rights, our new mandate gives us an opportunity to fight for the total inclusion of women in every aspect of public life and in the economy.</blockquote>
AAG President Chamu Chiwanza said:
<blockquote>We want women to do something constructive with their time and AAG Women’s Desk is taking a mentorship role for that.</blockquote>

Minister of Justice, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Affirmative_Action_Group">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> and <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_-_Patriotic_Front">Zanu PF</a> secretary for administration, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Ignatius_Chombo">Ignatius Chombo</a> are expected to give Government and the Zanu PF party’s position on the indigenisation law at the one day <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Affirmative_Action_Group">Affirmative Action Group</a> (AAG) annual general conference respectively.
The lobby group has threatened to take the Zanu PF Government to task over inconsistencies over the Indigenisation Act with AAG President <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Chamu_Chiwanza">Chamu Chiwanza</a> saying:
<blockquote>This is an annual conference, but as you would know, we had challenges with the interpretation of the indigenisation policy at some point, the President had to intervene, but we still need some direction on the matter, hence, we invited the VP representing government and a Zanu PF representative. We want to take the government to task because we feel there are a lot of inconsistencies that must be cleared.</blockquote>
The conference will be held at Zimbali Gardens in Greendale and is expected to draw delegates from the country’s 10 provinces. Chiwanza said ministers, among them Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Patrick_Zhuwao">Patrick Zhuwao</a>; Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Supa_Mandiwanzira">Supa Mandiwanzira</a>; and Tourism and Hospitality Industry Dr <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Walter_Mzembi">Walter Mzembi</a>, were also expected to address the one-day conference.
