<h4>1. His Deployment To AU Was Mugabe’s Coup Proofing Tactic.</h4>
Major Gen, Mugova was believed to be one of the top army officials who were deployed on diplomatic missions as a way of coup proofing Mugabe’s reign. His redeployment was also seen as a move to neutralise the potential threat from the military that was looming in 2017. Zimbabwe Independent penned:
<blockquote>Sources said Mugoba’s move was also part of Mugabe’s coup-proofing by giving the security forces preferential treatment in the face of worsening economic conditions in the country. Besides the special treatment on salaries, the military has been getting constant promotions and huge perks to keep them quiet.</blockquote>
<h4>2. He came back to Harare last month</h4>
As his health deteriorated in Ethiopia the General came back home last month and a week ago was admitted at a private hospital in Harare until his death today.
<h4>3. He was one of General Sibanda’s Deputies before his deployment to Ethiopia</h4>
Before he moved to Ethiopia in 2017 he was General Sibanda’s deputy together with Gen SB Moyo and Gen D Nyikayaramba.

Having deputised Gen Valerio Sibanda, Gen Mugova was regarded as a competent commander hence his deployment to the AU.

Ironically Major General Mugoba breathed his last on the same day his former commander-in-chief Robert Mugabe breathed his last.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is headed to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he is expected to attend the 30th African Union of Head of State and Government which will run from the 28th to 29th January 2018.
In his absence Vice President Retired General Constantino Chiwenga will be the Acting President. In a statement Acting Secretary for Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Dr Gurira said:

Chiwenga Now Acting President As Mnangagwa Heads To Ethiopia

Speaking during a meeting titled ‘Zimbabwe: The Way Forward’ convened by VOA Studio 7 in Washington DC last Thursday, the African Union Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Arikana Chihombori Quao, said there was no coup in Zimbabwe as the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) used a provision of the nation’s constitution to avert a political crisis.
Said Dr Chihombori Quao:
<blockquote>They acted within the constitution to do that. So, there was no coup but there was a provision within the constitution for the army to do that because of the conditions on the ground at that time and they moved in swiftly according to the constitution and address the issue.
We are so glad that Zimbabwe has set an example for Africa how we don’t kill each other. There was no looting, there was no killing. It was a peaceful transition and it’s a good day, it’s a new day in Zimbabwe … From the African Union side we are very proud and pleased that Africa in general and Zimbabwe is leading the way … that we have matured as communities from a political point of view. So, yes Zimbabwe is a success story and I reiterate there was no coup.</blockquote>

Military Did Not Stage Coup in Zimbabwe says AU Ambassador to US

Botswana’s Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation has responded to President Robert Mugabe’s comments during the annual Zimbabwe-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC).
<a href="http://news.pindula.co.zw/2017/10/03/video-president-mugabe-attacks-ian-khama/#.WdZP82hL_IU">Mugabe took a dig at Botswana counterpart Ian Khama</a> accusing him of not supporting Botswana’s foreign minister Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi’s bid for the chair of African Union (AU) Commission. Venson-Moitoi, subsequently lost the election. 
In a statement the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation states that Mugabe’s comments are inaccurate and unfortunate. The Ministry also says that it will not comment any further out of respect for Mugabe’s advanced age. Read the full statement below:

President Robert Mugabe has returned from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he attended the 29th AU mid-term review summit and donated US$1 million to the African Union.
He was met at Harare International Airport by the two Vice Presidents Cdes Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko, several cabinet ministers, services chiefs and senior government officials. In an interview with ZBC News upon arrival, Foreign Affairs Minister, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi said other countries have been motivated by President Mugabe’s donation. Commentators Dr Augustine Tirivangana and  chairperson of the Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy, Mr Vova Chikanda also applauded Mugabe’s gesture.

Mugabe from Ethiopia, hailed for donating $1 million to AU

President Robert Mugabe has donated 300 cattle to the African Union Foundation. The president made the donation to dissuade Africans from relying on aid from foreign partners due to the fact that it usually comes with conditions. The cattle will be received by AU Commission deputy chairperson Mr Erastus Mwencha.
After meeting with President Mugabe at the State House, Mr Mwecha said:
<blockquote>His Excellency the President during his tenure as chairperson of the African Union made a contribution and a donation to the private sector and as we know that last year when we had Ebola the private sector came up in a very strong way to support the African Union. So His Excellency also showed his commitment in that direction.
He made a donation of some 300 cattle which will be a contribution to support our programmes including, for instance, building our health capacity and also strengthening our education for the continent.</blockquote>

President Mugabe donates 300 cattle to the Afican Union

22-year-old Zimbabwean graphic designer Quentine Nyoni scooped the first prize at the African Union (AU) theme logo 2017 competitions which took place in Addis Ababa Ethiopia recently.
The competitions for the AU logo 2017 were open to African countries were held during the 28th ordinary session of the African heads of state and government summit. Nyoni emerged the winner after his logo was selected best and was awarded US$1000 prize money.
The logo design contest was launched by Dr Martial de-Paul Ikounga who is the United Nations commissioner of human resources, science and technology during the 2016 Africa Youth Day commemoration with 30 participants competing.
