A South African-based civil rights organisation AfriForum has launched a border patrol initiative with sniffer dogs at the porous South Africa-Zimbabwe border in the Musina area, Limpopo.
The move is meant to curb illegal immigration and smuggling along the porous Musina-Pafuri borderline.
AfriForum campaigns manager Jacques Broodryk said two sniffer dogs, Duke and Hailey, have since been donated and were also trained trackers. Said Broodryk:

The smugglers use the areas with dense bushes to cross the border and these sniffer dogs will assist to quickly get on the trail of the smugglers.
Duke (the dog) will also help law enforcement during roadblocks because of his specific skills to sniff out firearms and drugs.
Between June and September of last year alone, AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch in Musina helped to seize smuggled goods with a total value of more than R12 million.
This has a substantial impact on the illegal activities and according to information we have received, some of these smugglers have thrown in the towel because of the resilience of our volunteers.

According to AfriForum, an organisation that is representing Gabriella Engels, the woman who was assaulted by Grace Mugabe in August 2017, the South African Justice Department has not responded to their request on information concerning the extradition of the former Zimbabwean first lady to face prosecution in South Africa for assaulting Engels, TimesLive reports.
This was revealed by AfriForum’s head of private prosecutions unit, Gerrie Nel who was speaking at a press conference at their headquarters in Centurion. Nel read a letter from South Africa’s National Prosecution Authority and explained that the process stalled at the Justice Department when they made an enquiry and were never responded to. According to the publication:
<blockquote>Nel read parts of Batohi’s letter which said: “Like the complainant, the NPA would like to have the matter prosecuted as soon as possible.”
Batohi moved to clarify that the extradition was an executive prerogative and the request for the extradition was processed by the NPA and submitted to the department of justice for authentication and the Zimbabwean authorities back in July 2019.
Batohi advised AfriForum to ask the department of justice about the status of the extradition application.
Nel said they had since followed her advice. The justice department, he said, had not yet responded to a letter sent by the unit on July 10.</blockquote>
Mugabe reportedly assaulted Engels who has said she wants an apology from Robert Mugabe’s widow after photos of her injured face went viral on social media as she said she was assaulted by a cord by Mugabe.

Zindzi, the daughter of the late former South African president Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela Mandela, is the South African ambassador to Denmark. She had posted on twitter saying that the time was up for apartheid apologists. <h4>Zimbabwean commercial farmers lodge an R1.9 billion compensation claim against the South African presidency and government.</h4>
In what we hope is the final phase of a protracted legal struggle for justice in Zimbabwe, Willie Spies, the legal representative of AfriForum, a South African civil rights initiative, lodged papers in South Africa’s Pretoria High Court this week for a claim of almost R2 billion against the South African government and presidency by Zimbabwean farmers.
The 25 commercial farmers and farming businesses suffered damages as a result of the dissolution of the Southern African Development Community’s regional human rights court, the Windhoek-based SADC Tribunal, by the SADC Heads of State, including former president Jacob Zuma.
The struggle for justice in the agricultural sector of Zimbabwe began in the year 2000 when the violent land invasions were initiated, resulting in the mass-scale destruction of property, crops and livestock, as well as brutal attacks on farmers and farm workers countrywide.
Initially, the Zimbabwean courts upheld the rule of law but after they themselves were invaded, judges who had stood up to the Mugabe government were forced out of office and many of those who remained became compromised.
In 2005, my father-in-law, Mike Campbell, a commercial farmer and large-scale mango exporter from the Chegutu district in central Zimbabwe, lodged a court case in the local courts that protested the lawless and racial nature of the farm invasions.
Shortly after the case was heard in 2007 in the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe, Mike was arrested for being in his home on the farm and farming ‘illegally’, despite the fact that the Supreme Court had not ruled on the case.
In October 2007, after Mike had exhausted all access to legal recourse in Zimbabwe, his case was lodged in the SADC Tribunal, the Southern African Development Community’s regional human rights court, located in Windhoek, Namibia.
Shortly before the main court hearing, Mike was abducted by President Mugabe’s militia and severely tortured, along with his wife, Angela, and me, in a bid to force us to withdraw our case from the SADC Tribunal.
Despite this, we went ahead with the case, which was heard by five of the SADC Tribunal judges, and their final and binding judgment was given on November 28, 2008.
This allowed Mike and the 78 other commercial farmers who had joined the case, together with their workers, to remain in peaceful residence on their farms without interference in their farming operations.
Regrettably, President Mugabe openly defied the judgment and all but one of the 78 SADC Tribunal-protected applicants have subsequently been forced off their properties under brutal and lawless conditions.
After the Zimbabwe government had been held in contempt of court by the SADC Tribunal, President Mugabe managed to get the Tribunal judges suspended from office in 2012.
In 2014, President Mugabe, along with SADC Heads of State, signed a new Protocol that prevented all SADC citizens from accessing the SADC Tribunal for any cause whatsoever.
Fortunately, they did not manage to get the number of signatures required from other Heads of State to change the SADC Protocol. As a result, the previous Protocol remains in force and the SADC Tribunal merely requires funding and political will so that it can once again uphold justice and human rights as per the SADC Treaty.
In the absence of the Tribunal judges being enabled to do this, we embarked on a case against South Africa’s former president, Jacob Zuma, for being complicit in breaking the SADC Treaty and denying SADC citizens the right to justice.
This case culminated in an excellent judgment in South Africa’s Constitutional Court in December 2018 that declared President Zuma’s actions in closing down the SADC Tribunal as irrational, unconstitutional and indeed unlawful.
We hope that this latest case will be a ceremonial raising of the flag for justice within SADC and will herald the reopening of the SADC Tribunal for victims of injustice across the region.
Furthermore, we hope that other victims of injustice will add impetus to this movement by joining with the case within the prescribed time period. A summons must be served within six months of December 11, 2018, that is by June 11, 2019.
We thank God that we have been able to continue this fight for justice for so long. We pray that the SADC leaders will see justice as a primary building block for the development and prosperity of the 16-member countries of the SADC community.
Lastly, we thank AfriForum and our exceptional legal team for their vision and perseverance through so many long and traumatic years of struggle.

FULL TEXT: Zim Commercial Farmers Demand 2 Billion Rand From SA Govt

South African lobby group AfriForum said on Wednesday that it has learnt that a warrant of arrest has been issued against former Zimbabwean first lady Grace Mugabe.
Mugabe is being accused of assaulting South African model Gabriella Engels at a hotel in Sandton in August 2017, allegedly with an electrical extension cord. South African Police Service spokesman Vishnu Naidoo confirmed the development to Reuters adding that police were seeking Interpol’s help to enforce the warrant.
The South African government had granted Grace Mugabe diplomatic immunity. The immunity was overturned by a South African court this year after the Engels, challenged the decision.

UPDATED: Warrant Of Arrest Issued For Grace Mugabe For Assaulting South African Model

Civil rights group AfriForum told the Independent Online that one of former President Robert Mugabe is pressurising model Gabriella Engels, who filed assault charges against Grace Mugabe, to drop the charges against his mother.
AfriForum’s Kallie Kriel told journalists in Pretoria that they have approached the police over the issue. Said Kriel:
<blockquote>We’ve had a complaint, we were contacted by Gabriella Engels informing us that one of Mrs Mugabe’s sons in South Africa contacted her, and tried to convince her not to go ahead with the case. We have informed the police that they should look at this because it is interference with the judicial process and we believe that is very unfortunate. That case, we believe will be going ahead (in courts).</blockquote>

Grace Mugabe's Son Pressurising South African Model To Drop Assault Case

Lobby group Afriforum’s challenge against the decision by South Africa’s Minister of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation to grant diplomatic immunity to former Zimbabwe first lady Grace Mugabe in an assault case last year, is set to be heard in the North Gauteng High Court on Thursday and Friday.
AfriForum legal representative Willie Spies said the challenge is the first process to have Grace prosecuted for the alleged assault on South African model, Gabrielle Engels, with an electric cord after finding her in a hotel room with her two sons at an upmarket Sandton hotel. Said Spies:
<blockquote>Should AfriForum be successful in having this diplomatic immunity to Mugabe set aside, it will pave the way for the NPA to take steps to ultimately prosecute Mugabe. AfriForum indicated earlier that its private prosecuting unit under the leadership of Advocate Gerrie Nel stands ready to institute private prosecution should the NPA decide not to prosecute Mugabe.</blockquote>

Grace Mugabe Diplomatic Immunity Challenge Set To Be Heard

The North Gauteng High Court will hear an application challenging Grace Mugabe’s diplomatic immunity between May 10-11. This was revealed by AfriForum a South African civil rights group which is representing model Gabriella Engels<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2017/08/18/grace-mugabe-hit-hell-gabriella-engels-tells-bbc/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">. 'Grace Mugabe is acting like a criminal', AfriForum reacts to allegations that Gabriella Engels attacked Grace with knife

In an interview hosted by comedian Samantha Kureya popularly known as Gonyeti for Bus Stop TV, Manicaland Provincial affairs Minister Mandi Chimene showed that she was clueless about what AfriForum is despite organising the solidarity march that was held for first lady Grace Mugabe.
In her explanation, Chimene said that AfriForum is a Zimbabwean organisation. Said Chimene:
<blockquote>Hameno havo vana ivavo vakawanda-wanda ava vanotozivana ikoko. Because pane vamwe vakufunga kufoma zvimapato vozvipa zita vachinyepera kunge its a forum yekuita other things instead iri nzira yekupinda mupolitics. Saka ukatoona vakuti pasi nayo vatoziva kuti wrong forum. Handimbozvibvunzi zvizhinji zvacho handina basa nazvo ini because ndoziva Zanu-PF. (There are others that are forming parties and giving them names to make them appear as if they are forums to do other things when it is a way to get into politics. I do not ask what AfriForum means because I do not care about it, I only know Zanu-PF.)</blockquote>
Letina Undenge denied that there was a banner written AfriForum at the rally, probably to avoid explaining what AfriForum means. Some Zanu-PF supporters were also clueless as to what the march was about. They also could not explain what AfriForum is or is about. Watch the video below:

Afrikaner Civil rights watchdog AfriForum has warned that even though First Lady Grace Mugabe was granted diplomatic immunity for her alleged assault of model Gabriella Engels, the matter is not yet over. The organization said that it has filed an application to review the decision to grant diplomatic immunity.
Willie Spies‚ AfriForum’s legal representative said:
<blockquote>Mrs Mugabe’s departure to Zimbabwe and the granting of diplomatic immunity by the South African government to her is however not the end of the matter.
If the review application is successful (and there are very good grounds to believe that such an application will indeed be successful) the doors will be open for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to prosecute Mrs Mugabe.
If the NPA refuses to prosecute‚ AfriForum’s private prosecuting unit‚ under the leadership of Adv. Gerrie Nel‚ is ready to go ahead with private prosecution on behalf of Miss Engels. Whether Mrs Mugabe is in South Africa or not and although diplomatic immunity has been granted to her‚ the last word has not been spoken regarding this matter.</blockquote>
