The world football governing body, Fifa, has banned Caf president, Ahmad Ahmad, for five years from football-related activities and fined him 200 000 Swiss Franc (USD220 288) for unprofessional conduct. Fifa Ethics Committee found Madagascar’s Ahmad to have breached a number of statutes including articles 15 (Duty of loyalty), 20 (Offering and accepting gifts or other benefits) and 25 (Abuse of position) of the 2020 edition of the Fifa Code of Ethics, as well as article 28 (Misappropriation of funds) of the 2018 edition. Fifa said:
<blockquote>The investigation into Mr Ahmad’s conduct in his position as Caf president during the period from 2017 to 2019 concerned various Caf-related governance issues, including the organisation and financing of an Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca, his involvement in Caf’s dealings with the sports equipment company Tactical Steel and other activities.
In its decision, following an extensive hearing, the adjudicatory chamber ruled that, based on information gathered by the investigatory chamber, Mr Ahmad had breached his duty of loyalty, offered gifts and other benefits, mismanaged funds and abused his position as the Caf president, pursuant to the Fifa Code of Ethics. Consequently, the adjudicatory chamber found that Mr Ahmad had breached arts 15, 20 and 25 of the current edition of the Fifa Code of Ethics, as well as art. 28 of the 2018 edition, and sanctioned him with a ban from all football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level for five years. In addition, a fine in the amount of CHF 200,000 has been imposed on Mr Ahmad.
The terms of the decision were notified to Mr Ahmad today, the date on which the ban comes into force. In accordance with art. 78 par. 2 of the FIFA Code of Ethics, the full, motivated decision will be notified to Mr Ahmad in the next 60 days, after which it will be published on <a href="http://legal.fifa.com/?fbclid=IwAR037KfLyMrw_RPLB9hZ6zkk0UvZx1MphW-Gu1Dx8VJsw949OH71gpL3olU">legal.fifa.com.</a></blockquote>
Ahmad had indicated that he would seek reelection next year when the Caf Elective General Assembly is held on 12 March in Rabat, Morocco, but his candidature has been thrown into disarray.
Ahmad was elected CAF president in 2017 with the help of COSAFA President, Philip Chiyangwa, who was his campaign manager during the elections that toppled Hayatou.

FIFA Bans CAF President From Football

Warriors “super fan” Alvin Aluvah Zhakata was presented with a VIP ticket for the Afcon final between Algeria and Senegal on Friday by CAF president Ahmad Ahmad.
Zhakata travelled the 11 000km-journey from Harare to Cairo by road and faced several obstacles along the way.
As a result, he reached Egypt several days after the Warriors had exited the tournament at the Group stage.
After starting a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the trip back home, Zhakata got his expenses covered including a flight ticket to return to Zimbabwe.

The football world-governing body, FIFA, has issued a statement following the arrest of CAF President Ahmad Ahmad.
Ahmad was arrested on Thursday morning over charges of corruption which rose from a contract dispute with Puma. The FIFA statement reads as follows:

FIFA has taken note of the events concerning Mr Ahmad Ahmad, who is being questioned by the French authorities in relation to allegations related to his mandate while President of CAF.
FIFA is unaware of the details surrounding this investigation and is therefore not in a position to make any comment on it specifically.
FIFA is asking the French authorities for any information that might be relevant to investigations taking place within its Ethics Committee.
As a matter of due process, everyone has the right to the presumption of innocence, but as the FIFA President reiterated yesterday, FIFA is fully committed to eradicating all forms of wrongdoing at any level in football. Anyone found to have committed illicit or illegal acts has no place in football.
FIFA is now clean from the scandals that tarnished its reputation and this same determination should prevail in governing bodies such as confederations.
FIFA will be at the forefront of ensuring that this is enforced by everyone involved in football.</blockquote>

FIFA Speaks Over The Arrest Of African Football Boss

ZIFA President Philip Chiyangwa told The Herald that Confederation of African Football president Ahmad is set to visit Zimbabwe before year end. Ahmad will become the first continental boss to tour the nation. 
Said Chiyangwa:
<blockquote>I am excited to announce that CAF president Ahmad is to visit Zimbabwe. I had lunch with him in London today together with the Tunisian FA president (Jary). Ahmad has always been willing to come to Zimbabwe since he became CAF president and he acknowledges the role that Zimbabwe and COSAFA played in his ascendency to power. I will now hear from the CAF president’s office on which dates are suitable for him to visit, but that should be before year end. I have also been invited to attend the Tunisian FA Congress on November 10 and they also want me to watch their game on November 11. During the lunch meeting with the Tunisian FA boss, we agreed on competitions and technical cooperation between Zimbabwe and Tunisia and in all this, I am trying to find the best possible deals that can assist our game from the juniors to the seniors and for both men and women.</blockquote>

Ahmad to become first CAF President to visit Zimbabwe

Allies of former Confederation of African Football (CAF) president  Issa Hayatou are reportedly plotting to have the election results annulled, claiming that the election breached FIFA ethics. Hayatou <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/03/16/breaking-chiyangwa-coup-successful-hayatou-loses-caf-presidency/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">lost the election to Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar,</a> after 29 years as CAF President.  Zifa President Phillip Chiyangwa was instrumental in the campaign to depose Hayatou.
Hayatou’s  allies, most of whom lost their power with the fall of Hayatou are alleging that the Egyptian government provided money to influence voters. They are alleging that the money was distributed by new vice president of CAF Kwesi Nyantakyi. It is not known if the FIFA Ethics Committee will entertain the claims if they are filed. As yet, no evidence has been provided to support the claims.

Ex-CAF leader Issa Hayatou's allies want election overturned, allege bribery

Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa has left the country for Egypt where he is set to attend a ceremony to honour and welcome new CAF president Ahmad Ahmad at the CAF headquarters in Cairo tomorrow. FIFA president Gianni Infantino is expected to attend.

Chiyangwa leaves for Egypt to attend CAF ceremony

Zifa and COSAFA President Philip Chiyangwa has responded to CAF President Issa Hayatou’s threats after Chiyangwa planned to meet African football leaders in Harare this week.
Yesterday Chiyangwa told The Herald that he was aspiring CAF President Ahmad Ahmad’s campaign manager and maintained that the meeting in Harare was in fact a belated birthday and COSAFA victory celebration. Said Chiyangwa:
<blockquote>I am Ahmad’s campaign manager after he was endorsed by the entire COSAFA region which I also lead, and I think, it is only normal that I fight for his interests because the mission is to ensure that he gets the post that he is fighting for. In doing so, I am very clear that there are rules and regulations that govern how this process should be shaped and I am clearly aware of them and respect them, not only as an individual, but also as a leader of a major regional bloc on the continent. I will not flout these regulations no matter what, because I believe we need a fair race and that means a candidate that has been accepted by CAF for any position deserves respect and also needs to be given a chance to compete and that’s what I am doing in terms of trying to help Ahmad win his race. But that has nothing to do with the birthday celebrations that I am holding and the party for my victory in the COSAFA elections. These are two separate things and the planning for the party was done before I became Ahmad’s campaign manager.</blockquote>
