President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed former Zimbabwe National Army Commander Lieutenant-General David Sigauke as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Lt-General Sigauke who retired from the force in October last year will replace the late Johannes Tomana who died last August.
In an Extraordinary Government Gazette issued last Friday, President Mnangagwa also appointed Deputy Clerk of Parliament Helen Bangawe Dingani as ambassador to the Republic of Tanzania.
Visitor Jerry Mutume was appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Martin Rushwaya announced the new appointments the General Notices 432 A, 432B and 432C of 2024, respectively, published in the Extraordinary Government Gazette. He said:

It is hereby notified that His Excellency, the President in terms of Section 110 (2) (i) as read with Section 204 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, appointed Lt. General David Sigauke as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic Democratic of Congo (DRC); Ms Helen Bangawe Dingani Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the United Republic of Tanzania and Mr Visitor Jerry Mutume Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
</blockquote>
Lt-Gen Sigauke was retired last year and was succeeded by Lt. General Anselem Sanyatwe, who returned from Tanzania, where he served as Zimbabwe’s ambassador.
Lt-Gen Sigauke assumed leadership of the ZNA in 2021 after being promoted following the passing of his predecessor and national hero, Lt-Gen Edzai Chimonyo.
Before her most recent assignment, Dingani held the position of Deputy Clerk of Parliament and had previously served as a deputy clerk at the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).

Former Zimbabwe Army Commander Appointed Ambassador To Tanzania

United States President, Joe Biden has named his nominees for ambassadorship roles in Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Niger.
The U.S. foreign relations committee held confirmation hearings for Biden’s ambassadorship nominees to the four African countries on Wednesday.
According to <a href="https://www.news24.com/news24/southafrica/news/biden-names-nominees-for-zimbabwe-rwanda-nigeria-and-niger-ambassadorship-20230303">News24</a>, ambassador-designate to Zimbabwe, Pamela Tremont, has 30 years of experience in foreign services.
Tremont said she will actively work to support the democratic aspirations of Zimbabweans. She said:

If confirmed, I will actively work to support the democratic aspirations of those advocating for Zimbabweans’ constitutional rights, and I will seek partnerships with all those in Zimbabwe who are doing the same.
</blockquote>
Meanwhile, US Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of African Affairs, Robert Scott, was in Zimbabwe and had engagements with the government about the upcoming general elections.
Speaking after meeting Foreign Affairs Minister Frederick Shava in Harare, Scott said they all agreed on the need for non-violence during the upcoming elections.

President Biden Names Nominee For Zimbabwe Ambassadorship

Statement by Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Senator Hon Penny Wong on the appointment of Minoli Perera as Australia’s next Ambassador to Zimbabwe. <a href="https://www.foreignminister.gov.au/minister/penny-wong/media-release/ambassador-zimbabwe">Reads the statement:</a>

Today I announce the appointment of Ms. Minoli Perera as Australia’s next Ambassador to Zimbabwe.
Ms. Perera will also be accredited to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo, Malawi and Zambia.

Australia Appoints New Ambassador to Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe’s newly appointed Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Lovemore Mazemo, on Tuesday delivered a copy of his credentials to the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC).
In a statement posted on its website today, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said:

H.E. Alya Mohamed Almehrezi, Assistant Undersecretary for Protocols Affairs Office at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation received a copy of the credentials of H.E. Lovemore Mazemo, Ambassador of the Republic of Zimbabwe to the UAE.
Almehrezi wished the Ambassador success in the performance of his duties and in enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between the UAE and Zimbabwe.
The newly appointed Ambassador expressed his pleasure at representing his country in the United Arab Emirates, which enjoys a prestigious regional and international position thanks to the visionary policy of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.

Zimbabwe's Ambassador To The UAE Delivers His Credentials

Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Iran, Christopher Mapanga, has died, several media reports have claimed.
Mapanga reportedly died on Wednesday evening but the cause of death has not been revealed. Reports claim he was suffering from liver disease.
According to MEHR News Agency, the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran issued a statement on Thursday saying that the Ambassador of Zimbabwe to the Islamic Republic of Iran had died.
The statement said that after receiving information about the tragic death of the Ambassador of Zimbabwe in the Islamic Republic of Iran, in coordination with law enforcement and judicial authorities, the necessary measures to identify and carry out legal formalities were quickly taken.
It also said that the necessary arrangements have been made in coordination with the Zimbabwean Embassy in Tehran.
It’s the second death of a foreign diplomat in Tehran in less than six months.
In May, Iranian police started investigating the death of a Swiss diplomat who died after reportedly falling from a high rise in Tehran.
The Swiss woman, in her 50s, fell from the upper floors of a 20-story building in which she lived in northern Tehran, the state-run IRNA news agency reported.
Mapanga began his mission to Tehran in 2018. Earlier, he had been ambassador to Egypt, <a href="https://www.chronicleonline.com/news/world/state-tv-zimbabwean-ambassador-to-iran-dies/article_86a2ef01-ddf0-5274-9dd0-eb141dafe03f.html">Chronicle</a> reported.

Zimbabwe's Ambassador To Iran, Christopher Mapanga, Dies

The British ambassador to the United States of America, Kim Darroch, announced his resignation Wednesday, saying that it had become impossible for him to continue his role.
Darroch made comments critical of U.S. President Donald Trump in diplomatic cables which were subsequently leaked. He said in a statement:
<blockquote>Although my posting is not due to end until the end of this year, I believe in the current circumstances the responsible course is to allow the appointment of a new ambassador.</blockquote>
Darroch, who has been Britain’s top diplomat in Washington since 2016, used words such as “inept,” “insecure” and “incompetent” to describe Trump, and called the current US administration “uniquely dysfunctional.”
Trump responded on Twitter by calling Darroch “a very stupid guy” and a “pompous fool,” and had declared he would “no longer deal” with him.

President Mnangagwa Appoints 18 New Ambassadors - Report

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly handpicked former MDC legislator for Mabvuku-Tafara, James Maridadi as an ambassador-designate.
Maridadi, who once worked at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Authority’s Radio 3 (Power FM) as a disc jockey, fell out of favour with MDC leader Nelson Chamisa soon after taking over the party reins after the death of Morgan Tsvangirai in 2018. In a Twitter post on Wednesday evening, ZBC News Online wrote:
<blockquote>President <s>@</s>edmnangagwa has picked ex-MDC legislator for Mabvuku-Tafara, James Maridadi for a role as an ambassador. The former ZBC DJ, was among 15 ambassadors designate and 23 foreign affairs officials who started a month-long diplomatic training course in Harare today.</blockquote>
Since leaving the studio for politics, Maridadi is best known for his robust debates in Parliament and became famous in 2017 when he moved the motion to impeach former President Robert Mugabe, who was to resign later that day as a result.

Mnangagwa Handpicks James Maridadi As Ambassador-designate

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly handpicked former MDC legislator for Mabvuku-Tafara, James Maridadi for a role as an ambassador.

NewZimbabwe.com claims that Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials revealed that Maridadi is among a list of 16 prospective ambassadors who include four military generals recently retired by Mnangagwa. The sources said:
It is true Maridadi is likely to go to Senegal. He is among a list of 16 people nominated by President and set to undergo training beginning Monday. They received letters inviting them to the training sometime this week.
However, when contacted for comment, Maridadi is said professed have ignorance over the issue.
Maridadi fell out with Chamisa when he insisted on running for the Mabvuku-Tafara parliamentary seat against the party’s directive. Chamisa said then:
<blockquote>I told (incumbent MP James) Maridadi to go and remove his name at Zec due to circumstances that had taken place in the party, but he did not obey.
I realised that he is being mischievous when he was putting up posters for campaigning. It’s up to you Mabvuku, but the person we should rally behind as MDC Alliance is James Chidhakwa. The one chosen by the people is the one we should support.</blockquote>
Maridadi was eventually expelled from the party for insubordination.
Since entering the country’s crocodile-infested waters, Maridadi is best known for his robust debates in Parliament and became famous in 2017 when he moved the motion to impeach former President Robert Mugabe, who was to resign later that day as a result.

ED To Appoint James Maridadi As Ambassador - Report

German ambassador to Zimbabwe Thorsten Hutter said that the regional bloc, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) should take an active role in facilitating dialogue among Zimbabwe’s main political actors.
Speaking to the Zimbabwe Independent, Hutter opined that a failure to resolve Zimbabwe’s crises will eventually negatively affect its neighbours. He said:
<blockquote>Dialogue is always important to resolve differences in opinion. Unresolved issues of conflict will obstruct a nation’s development.
So if there are differences in opinion regarding the way forward to solve the problems of Zimbabwe, then a dialogue may be useful. It is necessary that all sides are committed to this kind of dialogue.
Neighbours and African partners can and should play a constructive role in support of Zimbabwe. Helping to solve the crisis in Zimbabwe could avert negative consequences for the whole region.</blockquote>
