Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Members of Parliament, Amos Chibaya and Costa Machingauta, were convicted on Friday by Harare Magistrate Sharon Takafa for disturbing public peace. They were convicted along with Aletta Viremai, Lancelot Tungwarara, and Monica Mukwada.
The five activists were represented by lawyers Kudzai Kadzere and Chris Mhike from the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum.
The magistrate ruled that the CCC leaders acted with “common purpose,” meaning they were all responsible for the actions, as they continued chanting party slogans even after police ordered them to disperse.
However, Magistrate Takafa acquitted five other people, saying the police had made dragnet arrests and some of those arrested were simply going about their business when the incident occurred.
The case stems from a private meeting held at Machingauta’s house in Budiriro on January 14 of last year, where police say the actions of CCC leaders and supporters disrupted public peace. The court will return on Monday for pre-sentencing.

Amos Chibaya, the former Member of Parliament for Mkoba North (CCC), has been granted bail by the High Court after spending over 40 days in pre-trial detention.
In a ruling on November 22, Justice Gibson Mandaza ordered Chibaya to pay a US$500 deposit to the Clerk of Court at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.
In addition to the deposit, Chibaya was instructed to report to the CID Law and Order Division in Harare every fortnight, continue residing at his usual address, and refrain from interfering with witnesses.
Chibaya is facing accusations of inciting fellow CCC activists to commit violence during a gathering outside the Harare Magistrates’ Court in June.
The protest followed the denial of bail for party faction leader Jameson Timba and several others.
His party maintains that Chibaya should never have been arrested, insisting he committed no offence. CCC said in a statement:

We won’t celebrate persecution and suppression of freedom of association. He shouldn’t have been arrested in the first place.
Zimbabwe is not yet free under the current regime.
We continue to demand the release of all political prisoners.

It is further alleged that Chibaya invited citizens to come in large numbers to demand the release of their colleagues.

Former Mkoba North MP Amos Chibaya (CCC) was denied bail by Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Monday in a case involving charges of inciting violence. He was remanded in custody to 30 October.

The magistrate accepted the prosecution’s argument that Chibaya will abscond trial and may commit similar offences if released.

Amos Chibaya Denied Bail On Violence Incitement Charges

Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa’s allies Amos Chibaya, and John Kuka, the current Mkoba South member of parliament, were among hundreds of people who attended the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) International Workers Day celebrations at Mkoba Stadium in Gweru on Wednesday, May 1.
According to <a href="https://changeradiozimbabwe.com/2024/05/02/presidents-chamisas-lieutenants-hon-chibaya-and-hon-kuka-urge-employers-to-pay-above-poverty-line-salaries-and-condemn-chinese-employers-on-may-commemorations/">Change Radio</a>, the guest of honour at the well-attended event was ZCTU’s first vice president, Valentine Chikosi.
In his speech, Chikosi urged workers to unite and fight for better salaries and improved working conditions.
Chibaya, a former MP for Mkoba North and a veteran trade unionist expressed his disappointment with the current state of affairs, saying workers have nothing to celebrate this year’s Workers Day.
He urged employers to pay workers salaries that exceed the poverty datum line, which stands at $US570.
Chibaya said that the tripartite negotiating forum should not be a mere talk show, but rather a platform for policy-making.
He also demanded that corruption, which has become pervasive within the government, should be addressed.
Kuka, who is also a seasoned trade unionist, who previously served as the Chairperson of the Zimbabwean Urban Council Workers Union (ZUCWU) Branch and Acting Young Workers Chairperson for ZCTU Central Region, criticised Chinese employers in the Midlands Province.
He condemned their practice of paying workers low salaries and failing to provide them with protective clothing.
Chinese employers in Zimbabwe have been accused of exploiting workers and causing environmental degradation and damaging public infrastructure.
Kuka pledged to advocate for the rights of workers with disabilities in parliament, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights protected.
The Mkoba South MP donated a cow for the Workers’ Day celebration in Gweru. The cow was slaughtered and served to the attendees, who enjoyed great entertainment throughout the event.

Chamisa's Allies, Chibaya And Kuka Urge Employers To Pay Above Poverty Line At ZCTU Event

Jameson Timba and Amos Chibaya, close allies of former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa, are apparently vying for control of the yet-to-be-launched political party known as the “Blue Movement”, which is associated with Chamisa.
According to  <a href="https://bulawayo24.com/index-id-news-sc-national-byo-241188.html">Bulawayo24</a>, Timba and Chibaya disagree on critical elements of the planned party’s organizational structure, particularly concerning the criteria for selecting cluster leaders.
This situation arises as Chibaya, along with Prince Dubeko Sibanda and Gift Ostalos Siziba, have reportedly confided in their trusted lieutenants about their aspirations to deputise Chamisa.  Chibaya believes he is the most suitable candidate for the role.
Bulawayo24 reported a source as saying that while Timba supports a democratic approach to selecting cluster leaders, Chibaya prefers a system of appointment, where leaders are handpicked rather than elected. Said the source:

Timba and Chibaya are embroiled in a heated dispute regarding the selection of cluster leaders and other key positions within Chamisa’s prospective party.
Timba insists on transparency and inclusivity in the leadership selection process, believing that democracy should be upheld at every level of the new party structure.
Chibaya’s stance leans towards a more centralized approach, where individuals close to Chamisa would be favoured for key positions, thus consolidating control within the inner circle.

The Blue Movement is not a formal political party but rather a symbol or concept embraced by Chamisa and his supporters after they abandoned CCC.

Jameson Timba, Chibaya Fight Over Chamisa's Blue Movement | Report

Some sitting and recalled CCC MPs are reportedly unhappy with the conduct of former party leader Nelson Chamisa’s trusted allies Gift Siziba and Amos Chibaya, who have emerged as the face of his yet-to-be-launched political movement.
Chibaya and Siziba, who are former MPs for Mkoba North and Pelandaba-Tshabalala, respectively, have been holding meetings across the country updating the party’s grassroots supporters on Chamisa’s impending political movement which will have blue as its colour.
However, the interfaces have angered some senior opposition figures who say they were not informed about the meetings.
Former Seke legislator Willard Madzimbamuto who was recalled by Sengezo Tshabangu and lost the by-election which he contested as an independent candidate took to X to express his frustration. He wrote:

No genuine movement begins in such an ambiguous way with only two people.
Such conduct casts negative aspersions at Nelson Chamisa as being dictatorial on things that he does not know.
</blockquote>
CCC’s Wedza South losing candidate Valentine Zinhumwe demanded openness and transparency. He said:
<blockquote>
The first part in building the new movement is us being honest to each other and accommodating diverse views. Zimbabweans want change. We cannot afford doing the same things and expect different results.

Chibaya, who is a former CCC interim organising secretary, told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200023107/daggers-out-for-chamisas-emissaries">NewsDay</a> he was simply carrying out his mandate as the organiser. He said:

There is what is called the organising committee. It is chaired by me and has numerous departments which are elections, communications, youth and women.
Wherever I am going, l am going with the committee which is known by everyone. I am the organiser and the head organising bureau.
</blockquote>
Political commentators who spoke to NewsDay said Chamisa should be open and provide direction to his supporters.
Political analyst Fanuel Kaseke said by keeping his cards close to his chest, Chamisa will be able to gauge his support. Said Kaseke:

In all honesty, whatever they are creating is just in the same fashion as the CCC and this delay gives him ample time to access his loyalists within the political fraternity.
He doesn’t want those he is running away from to follow him; he is waiting for them to form their own.

Another political commentator, Kudakwashe Munemo said Chamisa may have already announced his next move within his inner circle. He said:

It appears he has already announced to a select few in his inner circle and not to the masses yet.
The delay is likely aimed at assessing the behaviour and response of his colleagues.

Chamisa announced he had quit CCC on 25 January this year, saying ZANU PF had infiltrated the party through its proxies.

Chamisa's Supporters Demand Openness, Express Unhappiness With Chibaya, Siziba

Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) organising secretary Amos Chibaya has dismissed reports that Nelson Chamisa’s followers were mobilising for a new political party.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200022797/cracks-emerge-in-chamisas-blue-movement">NewsDay</a> on Tuesday, 06 February, Chibaya said that a meeting held in Mutare over the weekend was not an inaugural mobilisation programme but had organised the meeting on behalf of CCC.
The meeting reportedly angered some Chamisa loyalists who alleged that they were not informed of the meeting.
Chibaya and former CCC deputy spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Siziba addressed party supporters in Mutare during the weekend.
Other senior opposition figures who attended the meeting were former MPs Regai Tsunga and David Chimhini as well as Chikanga MP Lynette Karenyi-Kore. Said Chibaya:

As the organiser of the party, l was meeting with our champions from Manicaland. I am the organiser of the party in charge of putting in place structures and making sure that there are programmes and activities for the party.
At the beginning of every year, l do a round of provincial citizens assembly (PCA) and that meeting which took place is called PCA which was called by the national organising champions, myself and addressed again by myself.
The president resigned, yes, but he is still working with the citizens of Zimbabwe to achieve democratic change in Zimbabwe.
I am the organiser. The organiser oversees the party programmes and activities. If you go to ZANU PF there is what is called a political commissar.
You cannot be left out if you are not the organiser or part of the organising committee.

However, some of Chamisa’s loyalists are reported to be in the dark over his next move with the so-called inaugural mobilisation programme coming as a surprise.
Chamisa quit CCC late last month, saying the party had been infiltrated by ZANU PF after disputed interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu recalled dozens of the party’s MPs and councillors.

Chibaya, Ostallos Meeting In Mutare Angers Chamisa Loyalists

Members of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) who were barred from participating in the upcoming by-elections have filed an appeal at the Supreme Court. Sengezo Tshabangu, who is the disputed Secretary General of the party, has reportedly not opposed the appeal. Tshabangu recalled these members and went to court to block them from participating in the by-elections under the CCC banner. He argued that it was unreasonable for them to represent a party that had recalled them because they were no longer its members.
Some of the appellants mentioned in the appeal are Amos Chibaya, Gift Siziba, Abel Nyakarombo, Tomson Magaluwa, Bornface Tagwirei, Roger Chikonye, Musingashari Musingashari, Sophia Rudo Gwasira, Cloud Nengomasha, Simon Mapuvire, Alice Kundlande, Loyce Tigiri, Ninion Varandeni, Dyke Mukumbi, Lovemore Maiko, Kudakwashe John, Kumirai Rutsvava, Ian Muteto Makone, Simon Machisvo, Jerita Mutingwende, Samuel Gwenzi, and Innocent Kuziva Haparari, along with the Citizens Coalition for Change itself.
They cited the Citizens Coalition for Change as the first respondent and Sengezo Tshabangu as the second respondent.
If Tshabangu does not oppose the appeal, the Supreme Court may grant a default judgment in favour of the appellants, allowing them to contest the by-elections under the CCC party. Some observers believe that Tshabangu won’t oppose the appeal to keep the MPs under CCC, as that is better than letting them follow Nelson Chamisa, who resigned from CCC on January 24, 2024. Several elected MPs resigned after Chamisa’s resignation, claiming that the CCC party had been infiltrated and taken over by the ruling ZANU PF and its affiliates within the CCC. Some MPs are waiting to see what Chamisa plans to do, while others are consulting with their constituents.
There have been previous claims by opposition members that the courts are biased and would rule in favour of Tshabangu. However, some believe that the courts will rule in favour of the appellants this time to leave Chamisa without influential followers. They argue that the ZANU PF government is not afraid of CCC but is afraid of Chamisa, so isolating him would weaken him.
Meanwhile, Promise Mkwananzi, who wrote to Parliament claiming to be the acting party president, hinted at bringing Chamisa back to the party.

CCC MPs Barred From By-Elections File Supreme Court Appeal, Tshabangu Hasn't Opposed

High Court Justice Pisirayi Kwenda has given an order to remove the names of 23 opposition CCC Members of Parliament (MPs), including Amos Chibaya and Gift Ostallos Siziba, from the ballot papers for the upcoming by-elections set for 3 February. The judge ruled that these MPs are no longer CCC members and should not be allowed to run as candidates. He also expressed his displeasure with CCC lawyers for disregarding the court’s judgement.
The court heard arguments from both sides on 18 January 2024, and the judge reserved his judgment which he delivered on 19 January in the afternoon. The MPs in question were among several MPs and councillors who were recalled by Sengezo Tshabangu, the disputed CCC interim secretary-general. Tshabangu claimed that these individuals no longer belonged to the party.
The case arose when the recalled MPs filed to run in the by-elections under the CCC’s name. Tshabangu then took the matter to court, challenging the acceptance of their candidacy. His lawyer argued that there was a precedent of recalled members being disqualified from running in by-elections under the party that had recalled them.
After the ruling, CCC lawyer Obey Shava stated that he would consult with his client for further instructions. He noted that whether the recalled individuals will appear on the ballot for the February by-elections will depend on the legal actions taken by his client.
Journalist Mduduzi Mathuthu commented saying Nelson Chamisa should have either fielded candidates under a different party or supported ZAPU. He suggested that CCC’s decision to run independently allowed ZANU PF to gain ground in the elections. He said:

Political parties are not in the habit of doing favours for other parties, but on reflection, CCC – with this predictable scenario – should have either fielded candidates under a different banner, or backed ZAPU. ZAPU retreated when CCC fielded. Now Zanu PF makes inroads in Byo.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announced that preparations for the by-elections are well underway, with training for Constituency Elections Officers currently taking place in Darwendale.

High Court Orders Removal Of Recalled CCC MPs From February By-elections Ballot Papers

The Citizens Coalitions for Change (CCC) has refuted reports that it is planning to hold an elective congress before the end of this month.
Self-exiled former ZANU PF politburo member Jonathan Moyo recently claimed that CCC leader Nelson Chamisa and his key allies were organising a “crash congress”.
Posting on X, Moyo further claimed that <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Amos_Chibaya">Amos Chibaya</a> and Murwisi Zwizwai were tasked with organising the congress by Chamisa to weed out party bigwigs considered a threat to the latter.
However, speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200018959/ccc-denies-congress-reports">NewsDay</a> on Thursday, 02 November, Chibaya said the party was busy with parliamentary business and was not planning to hold a congress soon. He said:

I am not even aware of the congress. I saw it on social media platforms and I have been asked about the issue several times but there is nothing like that at the moment, we are busy in Parliament now.
We are not fighting anyone. People just say what they want to say but it’s wrong. 
On the issue of recalls of our party members, we have approached the courts and I don’t want to comment at the moment and we will see how it goes.

Chamisa is being accused of plotting to purge some senior party members, among them his co-vice presidents in the MDC Alliance, Tendai Biti and Welshman Ncube, for allegedly disapproving of his leadership style.
Chamisa has been accused of singlehandedly running the party since its formation in January 2022.
CCC has been rocked by divisions after self-proclaimed interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu recalled 15 Members of Parliament and 17 councillors last month saying they had ceased being members of the party.
Tshabangu recently claimed that he has the backing of several CCC bigwigs but he flatly refused to name them.

Chamisa's Key Ally, Amos Chibaya, Denies CCC "Crash Congress" Reports

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has appealed for SADC’s intervention in Zimbabwe’s “political crisis” after the party’s Youth Quota MP in the National Assembly, <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Takudzwa_Ngadziore">Takudzwa Ngadziore</a> was allegedly abducted and tortured by suspected State agents on Wednesday, 01 November.
Ngadziore recorded his abduction live on Facebook before he was reportedly taken to Mazowe where he was tortured before being stripped naked and dumped.
The kidnapping comes less than a month after former Mabvuku-Tafara MP James Chidhakwa (MDC) was abducted, tortured and later dumped along Arcturus Road.
Addressing reporters on Wednesday, CCC Chief Whip Amos Chibaya, said Ngadziore was kidnapped while on his way to the Parliament. He said:

Honourable Ngadziore was abducted while on his way to the parliament.
He was abducted at a gunpoint. this adds to surging politically motivated violence and targeted abductions.

Several opposition activists who have been kidnapped over the years have alleged that their captors injected them with unknown substances. Said Chibaya:

The pattern of injections is a big worry to us, all of them were injected with an unknown substance. A systematic way to eliminate those who differ from ZANU PF.
We have a political crisis in Zimbabwe arising out of a disputed election of 23 August 2023.
If an MP can be abducted in broad daylight in the capital city think of our activists all over the country who are being victimized for being CCC.

Chibaya demanded that the Police investigate Ngadziore’s abduction and arrest the perpetrators. He said:

We appeal to law enforcement agencies, particularly the police to investigate this issue with urgency and due diligence
We reject the brazen attempt to turn Zimbabwe into a pariah republic.
We are aware that SADC is meeting on the 4th of November to deliberate on other issues such as developments in Zimbabwe.
We call for Zimbabwe’s return to democracy and full respect of the law.

CCC Appeals For SADC's Intervention After Abduction Of MP In Broad Daylight

There was chaos in Parliament on Tuesday when anti-riot police were called to remove opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens'_Coalition_for_Change/">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> legislators who were protesting the recall of their 15 colleagues. A CCC supporter from Bulawayo, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sengezo_Tshabangu/">Sengezo Tshabangu</a>, claimed to be the party’s interim secretary-general and initiated the recall of 15 CCC Members of Parliament (MPs) and 17 councillors, alleging that they were no longer members of the party.
When Speaker of the National Assembly, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jacob_Mudenda/">Jacob Mudenda</a>, officially announced <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/010/09/speaker-of-parliament-jacob-mudenda-announces-recall-of-ccc-mps/">the recall of the MPs</a>, opposition MPs responded by singing and chanting slogans against Mudenda, bringing the proceedings to a halt. CCC interim organising secretary <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Amos_Chibaya/">Amos Chibaya</a> argued that Mudenda was wrong to accept Tshabangu’s letter, stating that all communication should come from their president,<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa/"> Nelson Chamisa</a>. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200017877/chaos-as-ccc-mps-defy-parly-recall">NewsDay</a> quotes him as saying:

Mudenda ordered the recalled MPs to leave the House, but they refused and continued singing party songs. As a result, anti-riot police were called in to remove them. Mudenda also imposed a ban on all CCC MPs from attending Parliament for six sessions and docked their salaries for boycotting President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa/">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a>‘s State of the Nation address the previous week.
While the chaos unfolded, Chamisa held meetings in Harare with party members to plan the way forward after the recall of MPs and councillors. CCC interim spokesperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Promise_Mkwananzi/">Promise Mkwananzi</a> dismissed Tshabangu as an impostor and a proxy for the ruling Zanu PF party. He said:

Action will be taken after a collective decision of all party organs.
The consultative process is underway today (yesterday).
We are having a series of meetings to discuss the issue and we will advise our members of the next step.
But we will not allow Zanu PF to subvert the will of the people.

Zanu PF, however, distanced itself from the recalls.
Human rights lawyer <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Beatrice_Mtetwa/">Beatrice Mtetwa</a> staged a solo demonstration in Harare against the recalls, holding a placard that read, “Tshabangu, respect our vote.” She expressed her anger over the recalls and criticised Mudenda for favouring political interests over the law.
Tshabangu’s spokesperson denied a circulating letter claiming that Chamisa had also been expelled from the party, stating that it was a fake document. The CCC was formed in January 2022 after the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2020/04/02/full-supreme-court-ruling-on-mdc-leadership-crisis-case/">Supreme Court ruled that Chamisa was not the leader of the MDC.</a> The CCC has yet to hold a congress to elect a permanent leadership since its establishment.

Chaos In Parliament As Anti-riot Police Eject CCC MPs

The opposition CCC says the election of the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Deputy was rigged in favour of ZANU PF, reported <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/zanu-pf-is-rigging-rages-opposition-legislators-after-mudenda-is-re-elected-speaker-of-parliament/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>.
ZANU PF’s Jacob Mudenda and Tsitsi Gezi were re-elected unopposed as the Speaker of the National Assembly and Deputy, respectively.
CCC Members of Parliament arrived late for the election that was held on Friday morning at the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden.
Addressing journalists yesterday, CCC chief whip Amos Chibaya accused ZANU PF of “rigging” the election. Chibaya said:

We had our candidate Eric Matinenga together with Honorable Gumede from Bulawayo.
We had informed the Clerk of Parliament that we would do a caucus to select our candidates in the morning.
We had agreed with the Clerk that the proceedings would begin at 11 AM but we were shocked when we walked in hearing that the election had been done.
They are rigging in Parliament the same way they did in the national elections. We will sit down and chart the way forward.

CCC fielded candidates to contest for the position of President and Deputy President of the Senate.
ZANU PF’s Mabel Chinomona was re-elected as the President of the Senate with Retired General (Rtd) Mike Nyambuya re-elected her deputy.
Chinomona garnered 50 votes beating CCC’s Felix Magalela Sibanda who received 25 votes.
Nyambuya was elected Deputy President of the Senate after getting 49 votes, against CCC’s Maggie Chakabuda who received 26 votes.

CCC Accuses ZANU PF Of Rigging Election Of Speaker Of Parliament

Twenty-four Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members who were arrested in Harare on Saturday for holding an unsanctioned meeting were denied bail when they appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court on Monday, 16 January.
The CCC members including party organising secretary Amos Chibaya and Budiriro legislator Costa Machingauta were arrested at the latter’s home while holding a private meeting.
They appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda who postponed the matter to this Tuesday for the continuation of bail application.
While opposing bail, the investigating officer George Garauzive said the evidence against the CCC members was overwhelming.
Garauzive argued that they may interfere with witnesses if granted bail.
One of the accused persons, a 17-year-old, was released under the guardianship of her uncle.
The CCC members were represented by Advocate Wilbert Mandinde and Chris Mhike.
Allegations against them are that on Saturday, the accused persons held an unsanctioned meeting in Budiriro.
In the State outline, Amos Chibaya is the accused number one. It reads:

2. Accused [1] is a male adult residing at 416 Mkoba 13, Gweru and is not employed. He is the National Organising Secretary for the Citizens Coalition for Change [CCC] political party.

On 14 January 2023, accused persons responded to an invitation for Citizens Coalition for Change [CCC] political party members’ Presidential Assembly meeting at house number 9239, Vhumba Crescent, Budiriro 5B, Harare. The house is owned by Citizens Coalition for Change [CCC] House of Assembly Member for Budiriro Constituency Costa Machingauta. The invitation is allegedly authored and circulated on various social media platforms by Lancelot Tungwarara with no further particulars known.
5. On the same date [14/01/23], accused persons who were dressed in [CCC] regalia that include caps, helmets and T-shirts gathered at house number 9239, Vhumba Crescent Budiriro 5B, Harare pursuant to the alleged invitation on social media platforms.
6. While at the gathering, the accused persons chanted [CCC] political party slogan “Ngaapinde hake Mukomana, 2023 Chamisa chete chete” meaning “let the boy get in, 2023 Chamisa only”.
7. Members of ZRP Budiriro received a tip-off that the accused were gathered and went to investigate. Upon arrival at the scene of the crime, the police observed that the accused’s conduct was disturbing the peace of a section of members of the public.
8. The police ordered the accused persons to disperse but they resisted leading to their arrest.
9. The accused had no lawful excuse to act in the manner they did.

Mr Kadzere has confirmed the assault. Just this week, we issued a statement condemning reports of violence in Murewa and calling on the state to do everything possible to nip political violence in the bud. To have such brazen conduct from police officers demonstrates a high level of impunity by officers and nothing short of swift disciplinary action will restore public confidence in the police. 
Our Constitution and numerous other international instruments to which Zimbabwe is a state party provide for rights to legal representation and the right of lawyers to do their work freely without hindrance.
Our own courts have pronounced themselves unequivocally on the rights of legal practitioners to conduct their professional duties without any hindrance. 
This is a new low for Zimbabwe and we are deeply disappointed that of all people, the police who have a constitutional obligation to protect the rights of all citizens have taken a front-row seat to violating the same. This is a sad indictment on the professionalism of our police force which is expected to operate in a fair and non-partisan manner.
 The Law Society of Zimbabwe demands an explanation and a full investigation as well as prosecution of those behind Mr Kadzere’s assault. Such kind of behaviour must not be allowed in our country and should be frowned upon. The right of lawyers to represent all who require legal representation should be sacrosanct and the police must be the first to defend it. 
We wish Mr Kadzere a speedy recovery.

The party say Sikhala is a political prisoner and is innocent.

CCC national organising secretary, Amos Chibaya, says he will grab the Local Government and Public Works ministerial portfolio from the incumbent, July Moyo of ZANU PF next year.
Addressing a party fundraising event in Birmingham, UK, earlier this month, Chibaya said CCC president Nelson Chamisa will form the country’s government after general elections scheduled for 2023.
He also urged the party’s supporters in the diaspora to start establishing a skills database so that they will occupy top positions in the new CCC-led government.
The Mkoba MP said he has already informed Chamisa that he ought to be rewarded for his “hard work” with a Cabinet position and should be appointed Minister of Local Government and Public Works.

CCC Organising Secretary Chibaya Reveals His Cabinet Job When Chamisa Takes Power

CCC national organising secretary, Amos Chibaya, says his recent arrest was an attempt by ZANU PF to silence him.
Chibaya has been galvanising support for CCC and leading the opposition party’s penetration into rural areas ahead of the 2023 elections.
On Monday, the Mkoba MP was arrested for allegedly organising a meeting at Charandura in April in violation of provisions of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act. Said Chibaya:

As the organising champion in charge of the Mugwazo programme, CCC is now in charge of most parts of rural areas, so they (ZANU PF) are trying to silence me through these arrests.
I will not be silenced; I will continue to fight and move forward, mobilising people to vote for change in the coming 2023 elections.

Mugwazo is the code-name for CCC’s nationwide rural mobilisation exercise as it tries to make inroads in areas considered ZANU PF strongholds.
Chibaya was released on the same day and will appear in court by way of summons according to his lawyer, Reginald Chidawanyika.
Besides Chibaya, other CCC MPs who have been arrested in recent weeks are Job Sikhala (Zengeza West) and Godfrey Sithole (Chitungwiza North).
The duo was arrested on charges of inciting public violence in Nyatsime after the killing of CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali. They are currently in remand.

Opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> legislator, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Amos_Chibaya">Amos Chibaya</a> has claimed that he was informed by some legislators from the ruling <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_-_Patriotic_Front">ZANU PF</a> that they have grown weary of their own party and now want it out.
Chibaya was speaking at the CCC’s thank you rally in Gweru, following victory in the 26 March 2022 by-elections. He said:

Political analysts say it is crucial for the opposition to win the rural vote for it to dislodge ZANU PF from power.
The opposition CCC claims it is fast penetrating the rural areas, previously regarded as ZANU PF strongholds, attributing the development to disgruntlement over the deteriorating state of affairs.
CCC blames ZANU PF for the deterioration of the economy which has worsened the plight of citizens.
This is happening shortly before the 2023 polls.

The opposition CCC has encouraged its supporters in rural areas to attend ZANU PF meetings to avoid being victimised but to remember where to cast their votes in the 2023 elections.
CCC interim organising secretary Amos Chibaya told NewsDay that rural people, including ZANU PF supporters, “are now tired” of the ruling party but are afraid of saying it openly. Said Chibaya:

CCC Tells Rural Supporters To Attend ZANU PF Meetings

High Court judge Justice Lucy Mungwari on Friday ruled that the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) campaign rally scheduled for this Saturday at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera could go on as long as the opposition party addressed all the issues raised by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
On Wednesday, police in Marondera District advised CCC that the star rally could not go ahead after the opposition party proposed to conduct a mini car rally in the town ahead of the event.
That prompted CCC lawyers Jeremiah Bhamu and Obey Shava from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), to approach the High Court challenging the police decision to block the rally. In her ruling, Justice Mungwari said:

Go and resolve the internal remedies which were brought to your attention by the police and after resolving them you can proceed with your rally.

CCC interim organising secretary Amos Chibaya said the Marondera rally will go ahead as planned. He said:

High Court Clears CCC Marondera Rally

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa was on Saturday forced to postpone a campaign rally at Gokwe Centre, Midlands after riot police used tear smoke, water cannon and batons to disperse his supporters.
Chamisa arrived in the town just after 3 PM for the rally but was forced to have a walk around in the town with hundreds of party supporters following him.
The CCC leader, who was accompanied by his deputy Tendai Biti, and other senior party officials, was in Gokwe to address a scheduled campaign rally ahead of the March 26 by-elections.
However, heavily-armed Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers with water cannons had fought running battles with CCC supporters in Gokwe throughout the day in a bid to stop the rally from going ahead.
ZRP had earlier authorised CCC to hold their rally in Gokwe town but later claimed that they had manpower shortages and instructed the opposition party to postpone the event.
Posting on Twitter, Chamisa expressed frustration over ZRP’s bullying tactics. He wrote:

So low! But why? We were the first to notify the police about our Kwekwe and Gokwe rallies.
ED (Mnangagwa) countered by provocatively and arrogantly pencilling his rally for Kwekwe. We don’t accept bullying!!
We had no single policeman in Highfield or at any of our previous rallies. Our rallies are not covered by police. They just disrupt our activities.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa held a rally in Kwekwe, 143 kilometres from Gokwe, also on Saturday with some reports suggesting that Gokwe residents snubbed buses that were availed to ferry them to the ZANU PF rally.
Speaking in an interview with The Standard, CCC national organising secretary Amos Chibaya said they will reschedule the rally. Said Chibaya:

Heavily-armed Riot Police Block CCC Rally In Gokwe

Heavily-armed riot police officers disrupted a roadshow by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in Gweru’s Mkoba suburb over the weekend and arrested 12 of its supporters.
CCC candidate for Mkoba in the 26 March by-elections, Amos Chibaya, who was part of the roadshow, confirmed the development to NewZimbabwe. He said:

We were doing a roadshow in Mkoba on Sunday with our vehicles peacefully without any noise.
Police disrupted the programme, and they took keys from some vehicles and arrested drivers and some of our supporters.
I spoke to the Dispol (district police officer) and she was talking of unlawful gathering.
l then asked how she could talk of unlawful gathering when we are were not gathered, we are in our vehicles.
What is disturbing is that ZANU PF is allowed to move around with vehicles doing exactly what we were doing.

Riot Police Disrupt CCC Roadshow In Gweru

Officers from various State security arms inundated Chinhoyi on Tuesday after gathering false intelligence that MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa was going to hold a rally in the town.
Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) agents, military intelligence operatives as well as members of the police intelligence reportedly spent the greater part of the day looking for Chamisa who did not set his foot in the town yesterday.
It was the MDC Alliance national organising secretary, Amos Chibaya, who visited Chinhoyi yesterday where he planted a tree at Sunningdale Trust Old People’s Home around mid-morning.
Later that day, Chibaya donated grocery hampers at the MDC Alliance party offices in Mzari suburb.
He, however, failed to make a scheduled donation at Good Shepherd Children’s Home after ZANU PF supporters sealed off the place for an alleged Pfumvudza inputs distribution exercise.
Speaking at the party offices, Chibaya said he encountered about 50 roadblocks from Harare to Chinhoyi as the “panicky” Government attempted to block Chamisa from donating foodstuffs to vulnerable members of society. Said Chibaya:

From Harare to Chinhoyi, we encountered something like 50 roadblocks. What’s the reason for this panic?
They heard that the people’s president, Chamisa, was coming to give you food. This is the reason they flooded the highway with roadblocks.
In the entire town of Chinhoyi there are CIOs, soldiers, police… what are you looking for?
Is it a crime for Chamisa to come and donate food? Why are you so scared of allowing Chamisa to move around freely?

He said Chamisa had sourced the grocery hampers to bring relief to vulnerable members of society as the prices of basic foodstuffs were now beyond the reach of many.
The beneficiaries included the elderly, orphans, disabled and victims of political violence.
Chibaya implored Zimbabweans to go and register to vote in the 2023 harmonised elections.

State Security Agents In Futile Search For Chamisa

MDC Alliance (MDC-A) National Organising and Party Building Secretary Amos Chibaya has urged party structures not to be shaken following a recent high profile defection to ZANU PF.
On Wednesday Lilian Timveos, a former deputy MDC Alliance treasurer-general, vice presidential candidate and senator joined ZANU PF and was paraded by President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House. In a statement on Thursday, Chibaya said:
<blockquote>The struggle continues under seemingly challenging and yet expected circumstances. The enemy will always try shenanigans and machinations aimed at destabilising the People’s movement.
We, however, should always be vigilant and focused on the goal. Sideshows, cheap political scores and pseudo-victories will and shall never distract us from the common agenda of fighting for a democratic Zimbabwe with equal opportunities for everyone.</blockquote>
Timveos made a surprise State House appearance alongside former MDC Alliance MP for Kwekwe Central Blessing Chebundo who joined the ruling party after a short stint with MDC-T.
She also blasted the MDC-A, accusing the party leadership of corruption, violence and intolerance and singled out Chalton Hwende who she accused of single-handedly destroying the party.
However, Chibaya dismissed the development as a sideshow, calling on party members not to be shaken but to remain resolute. He added:
<blockquote>It is in our best interest to remain with clear genuine cadres of the movement and not compromised two timers.
We should never be diverted, shaken nor moved by insignificant sideshows.
In this regard, all Party leadership and structures are advised and hereby directed to remain focused on mobilising and building the Party to continue the people’s struggle.
We should all be guided by our strategic plans and move on with Party meetings and programs as planned and accordingly calendared. Together, united we shall deliver a new democratic Zimbabwe.
We remain solid, loyal, confident and trust in the Leadership of the People’s President Adv Nelson Chamisa.</blockquote>

Chibaya Addresses MDC-A Members After High Profile Defection

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa angered recalled MPs and councillors after he told members of the national standing committee that they would have to contest in primary elections if they intended to run in the pending by-elections.
The Daily News reported a source saying organising secretary Amos Chibaya attempted to challenge Chamisa’s order but the latter refused to budge. The unnamed official said:
<blockquote>The president (Chamisa) suggested during a standing committee meeting that primary elections be held in all constituencies where MPs and councillors were recalled, to choose candidates to represent the party when by-elections are held.
The suggestion came as a shock to all of us because the party made a resolution that the concerned MPs and councillors would be our candidates again as a reward for their loyalty to the party — given that some were bullied by Khupe into selling out.
Soon after the suggestion, Chibaya raised his objection, but Nero would have none of it and told him in no uncertain terms that he could as well chair the standing committee meeting if he so desired.
The call for Chibaya to chair the meeting was met with dead silence as Chamisa sternly warned that he did not countenance leaders who dared challenge him.</blockquote>
Chamisa reportedly made the unpopular decision because some former legislators and councillors were no longer wanted in their constituencies.

Chamisa Infuriates Recalled Legislators & Councillors

William Gondo, a member of the ruling party Zanu PF will represent Zanu PF in upcoming by-elections for Mkoba constituency in Gweru which fell vacant when MDC T led by Thokozani Khupe recalled Amos Chibaya, the Chronicle reports.
This was revealed by the party’s Midlands Provincial Spokesperson who said the results of the primaries which were contested by 5 candidates were as follows:

Speaking about the primaries, Zanu PF Midlands provincial spokesperson Cornelius Mupereri said they had suspended the Kwekwe primary elections indefinitely after it headlined that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/10/05/zanu-pf-primary-by-elections-in-kwekwe-turns-bloody/">there were violent clashes at the elections</a> and 2 vehicles were damaged in the chaos.
A source that spoke to New Zimbabwe told the publication that the violence broke out because the 2 factions one backing Owen Mudha Ncube’s nephew and the other one backing Victor Matemadanda’s candidate disagreed on how the polls were to be conducted:

William Gondo Wins Zanu PF Mkoba Constituency Primary Elections

MDC-T secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora on Monday said his party will soon take over all offices under the control of the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance (MDC-A).
Mwonzora said this after the youths loyal to Chamisa blocked the MDC-T from holding a meeting at the party offices in Kwekwe, Midlands Province, over the weekend. Said Mwonzora:
<blockquote>When we came to the Midlands, we did not intend to take over the offices but we just wanted to use them for our meeting but there are some who are still in denial as to who owns that office. We are now working on taking away our properties from these hooligans.
We are definitely going take over and occupy our offices and properties it’s only a matter of time.</blockquote>
However, MDC-A national organising secretary, Amos Chibaya, told The Herald that the party is now much prepared to resist a hostile takeover of its offices and the Mwonzora camp should not dare attempt another seizure. He said:
<blockquote>I want to assure you that we are much prepared and what happened at Harvest house when (Mr) Mwonzora and company moved into our offices will not happen again.
We will be there waiting for them. Let them dare take any of the party’s offices and you will see what will happen.</blockquote>
Last month youths aligned to the MDC-T seized Richard Tsvangirai House, also known as Harvest House which was under the control of the MDC-A. Reports allege that soldiers and police assisted the takeover of the opposition party’s national headquarters.
