Manzou villagers at Arnold Farm in Mazowe stormed former first lady Grace Mugabe’s property to celebrate her husband’s resignation.
For hours, villagers waving placards sang and danced to revolutionary songs while others denigrated Mugabe’s “greediness” and demonstrated at Grace’s Mazowe orphanage gate, demanding justice before they marched around the shopping centre in solidarity with others celebrating Mugabe’s downfall. Stella Nikisi (65) showed NewsDay a swollen leg sustained from assault by the police who wanted to remove her from Arnold Farm. Said Nikisi:
<blockquote>Because of Grace and her husband, we stayed at Arnold Farm like captives. They demolished our houses each time we tried to put up structures. They enjoyed it when we slept in the open with our grandchildren. Whenever police came to harass us they made sure that they also destroyed our food and property, saying the First Family didn’t want to see us at the farm. However, today we are happy that at last we are liberated. We are free people and all those who didn’t want to protect us, particularly (Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs minister Martin) Dinha and the district administrator’s office, have been shamed. It’s wrong to side with greedy people.</blockquote>

Manzou villagers storm Grace Mugabe’s property to celebrate her husband’s downfall

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) has called on first lady Grace Mugabe to stop the violent eviction of villagers from Manzou and Arnold Farms in Mazowe. Grace is alleged to be evicting the villagers in order to expand her business empire.
Part of the report from the ZHRC reads:
<blockquote>The ZHRC notes that the relocation of people from Arnold Farm without suitable alternative land was not sanctioned by the courts as required by the law, and is, therefore, in violation of numerous rights.
In the course of the evictions, the rights to freedom from arbitrary evictions, education, health administrative justice [and] freedom of movement were chief among those negatively impacted.
It is worth noting that the issue of adequate compensation to the affected families continues to be a bone of contention, which State institutions involved in this exercise have not prioritised.
The State, when effecting evictions through its institutions, should ensure the evictees possess a degree of security of tenure, which guarantees legal protection against forced evictions, harassment and other threats,</blockquote>

Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission says Grace must stop evicting villagers from Mazowe

Suspected Zanu-PF youth members allegedly destroyed temporary shelters being used by villagers who were evicted from Manzou Farm in Mazowe, where First Lady Grace Mugabe is building her business empire. <a href="http://news.pindula.co.zw/2017/07/07/grace-grabs-state-owned-mazowe-dam-bars-villagers-using/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">The First Lady is also reported to have seized the state owned Mazowe Dam and barred villagers from using it.</a>
Arnold Farm Residents Association secretary, Innocent Dube said:
<blockquote>They came early today holding logs, ordered everyone to get out before they started attacking our houses.
We have reported the case at Mazowe police station but the police have not shown interest in assisting us and they are saying that they are afraid of being victimized if they act.
The police are not doing their duty which is clearly stipulated by the constitution which says that they (police) must protect and secure the lives and property of the people.</blockquote>
However, Police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said she was unaware of the case.

Makeshift homes of people evicted by First Lady from Arnold Farm in Mazowe destroyed by youths

Villagers that were evicted from Arnold Farm in Mazowe to make way for Grace Mugabe recounted their ordeal to The Standard.
One Tapiwa Daisi recounted how his wife and daughter was assaulted. Said Daisi:
<blockquote>I rushed there in the company of my uncle. I couldn’t believe what I saw as I arrived. The plain-clothed officers were assaulting my wife and 15-year-old daughter with open hands, booted feet and switches. I cried out loud asking why they wanted to destroy my family. That is when the men said the person they wanted was me. They started assaulting me indiscriminately using wooden sticks, booted feet and open hands. The assault took quite some time but fellow villagers couldn’t come to my rescue because of fear. We all cried but they kept on assaulting us. Later on they tied my hands with a rope.</blockquote>
When The Standard visited the farm recently, about 50 families had gathered outside Arnold Farm, along the Harare-Bindura highway. Jairos Mativenge said:
<blockquote>They wanted to give us very small pieces of land but we rejected them and stayed put at the farm. We said the government cannot do this to us because we deserve to be given adequate land, just like other people who were relocated since 1980. In 2015 they did the same. Now it’s 2017 and they are telling us to leave and they are beating us and destroying our houses, property and fields.</blockquote>
Another villager Robert Magora said their experience had left many wondering if Zimbabwe was a free country. Said Magora:
 
<blockquote>We ask ourselves are we really Zimbabweans just like any other citizen of this country or we are aliens. If they think we are aliens, let them take us to those countries where we came from? The unfair part is that we are making Zanu PF win elections but after the resounding win, they chase us like baboons.Right now we don’t have anywhere to sleep and our children are being affected and mothers are giving birth right in the forest. If they say we came from Korea let them take us there and stop treating us like baboons that stay in mountains. This is Zimbabwe where our brothers, sisters and relatives contributed during the liberation struggle. This is not the Zimbabwe that we fought for.</blockquote>
Sarudzai Muriro said the first family had many big farms in the area and evicting poor people from their plots was being heartless.

Villagers who were evicted from Arnold Farm to make way for Grace Mugabe recount ordeal

Pastor Patrick Mugadza the man who made a “prophecy” that President Mugabe would die on the 17th of December 2017 visited more than 100 families at Arnold Farm in Mazowe. The villagers were forcibly evicted from the farm reported under orders of First Lady Grace Mugabe despite the High Court prohibiting the evictions.
Mugadza took to prayer and denounced the actions of the First Lady for causing the suffering of the people. He implored the Almighty to return all misfortunes that First Lady Grace Mugabe had visited on the villagers.
Said Mugadza in his prayer:
<blockquote>We pray right now in Jesus’ Mighty name that as she has removed people from where they are, may she also be removed from where she is.
The person who has caused people to lose sleep in their houses, may she also get no sleep, in Jesus Mighty name,</blockquote>
Pastor Patrick Mugadza, recently spent  55 days in remand prison.

Mugabe death pastor asks God to return misfortunes to Grace in controversial prayer at Arnold Farm

Top government officials are allegedly refusing to co-operate with the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC)’s planned investigation into human rights abuses by First Lady Grace Mugabe who forcibly evicted over 200 families, from Manzou Farm in Mazowe, where she plans to set up a wildlife conservancy.
Since last Friday, investigators from the ZHRC tried to meet Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs minister Martin Dinha, the officer-in-charge at Mazowe Police Station and the provincial chief lands officer, with little success. ZHRC chairperson, Elasto Mugwadi, was, however, optimistic his team would be able to interview the officials soon.
A Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights member, who is representing the affected villagers, Moses Donsa-Nkomo, yesterday said he had written to Home Affairs minister Ignatius Chombo and Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri threatening to sue.

Govt officials refuse to cooperate with Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission's investigation into Grace Mugabe's human rights abuse

The villagers who were evicted from Arnold Farm in Mazowe reportedly to make way for First Lady Grace Mugabe to expand her business are living in the open and surviving on guavas and melons. They do not have a source of clean water. Some of the villagers were dumped along the Mvurwi-Concession road and are appealing for humanitarian aid.
A villager who spoke to New Zimbabwe said:
<blockquote>We are surviving on guavas, melon and water, we don’t have clean water to drink let alone to bath or do laundry,
There are no toilets to relive ourselves and its now open defecation everywhere.</blockquote>

Mazowe Villagers evicted from Grace Mugabe farm appealing for humanitarian aid as they survive on guavas

Police yesterday again pulled down over 50 homes on Arnold Farm to allegedly to pave way for First Lady Grace Mugabe, who reportedly wants to expand her business empire in Mazowe.
A villager who spoke to NewsDay said:
<blockquote>Today (yesterday) they destroyed 50 homes. On Wednesday, they destroyed 35 out of the 143 homes on the farm,” one villager said. We don’t have anywhere to go. Last night, it rained incessantly and we had to salvage the remains of the thatch grass to build makeshift shelters for our children while elders slept in the rains. The situation is just hopeless. We want to move, but we don’t have anywhere to go. The government has not given us alternative land.</blockquote>
 
In 2015 homes were also demolished and over 700 villagers evicted from the nearby Manzou Farm, again allegedly at the instruction of the First Family. The villagers were later resettled at Rushinga, Lazy and Blagdon farms in Concession before they took legal action and got a High Court reprieve to stay at the property until they had been allocated an alternative piece of land to settle.

Police demolish 50 more homes at Arnold Farm to make way for Grace Mugabe

Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provoincial Affairs Martin Dinha has criticised NewsDay for publishing the story that First Lady Grace Mugabe was evicting the inhabitants of Arnold Farm to expand her business empire. Dinha had been asked by NewsDay to comment on the issue but allegedly failed to give a comment at the time the paper went to print.
Dinha said that the land had been given to Grace Mugabe as a way of attracting investors into the province. He said that the 600 families that were around the area where relocated to Nyandirwi Farm in Mazowe and Lot One of lazy 7. He said that the only people that were there were illegal gold panners who have been since told to move.
Said Dinha:
<blockquote>That NewsDay story is false and phony calculated politically and maliciously to defame the good name and dignity of Her Excellency, the First Lady. The whole story depicts the height of gutter journalism by the so called independent press, who in fact are opposition tabloids sponsored by Western countries.</blockquote>
