Zimbabwean authorities have banned an energy drink made in Zambia after it was discovered that it contains a dangerous pharmaceutical component that can cause blindness or heart failure.
The decision to ban the aphrodisiac in Zimbabwe, which was also banned in Uganda, was made by the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ).
In a public note on Tuesday, MCAZ said:
<blockquote>Following a series of laboratory tests, the Authority has found Natural Power SX High Energy Drink to contain an active pharmaceutical component, sildenafil, which can have an adverse impact on health such as loss of vision, loss of hearing and heart problems, which can be fatal.</blockquote>
MCAZ said that the drink carries what it called:
<blockquote>… unproven medical claims of increasing male libido, being an aphrodisiac and a performance booster.</blockquote>
Reports indicate that a Ugandan man had an erection for 6 hours after consuming the drink.

Zim Bans Energy Drink Made In Zambia

Several churches defied a government ban on public gatherings and continued worshiping in the face of a stepped-up campaign to prevent the spread of cholera. The Zimbabwe Republic Police issued a ban on all public gatherings and illegal food vending to control the spread of cholera, which has killed over 30 people in the Harare.
Police spokesperson assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday declined to comment why the ban was not being enforced on churches, referring the matter to Harare City Council (HCC), saying ZRP had concluded the issue already.
Harare City Council corporate communications manager Michael Chideme also declined to comment.
Said Chideme:

Churches Turn A Deaf Ear On Government Ban Of Public Gatherings

The Zimbabwe Cross-Border Traders Association (ZCBTA) has said that the government should ban all public transporters from travelling at after 9 pm. The association also said that is considering approaching the courts if the government did not act. This follows two deadly accidents involving <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/04/26/civil-protection-unit-releases-names-of-31-people-who-died-in-proliner-bus-accident/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">a Proliner bus in April </a>and <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/06/08/43-people-die-zambia-bound-king-lion-bus-accident/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Wednesday night’s King Lion accident</a>. The two accidents killed 31 and 45 people respectively, as of the time of publishing.  <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Bus_Disasters" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The number of horror crashes in Zimbabwe also seems to be increasing with greater frequency.</a>
ZCBTA president Dr Killer Zivhu said in a statement yesterday:
<blockquote>The most noble thing to do is for Government to ban buses and other public transporters from travelling after 9pm until everyone is satisfied that our roads are safe for night travel,” he said.
If Government does not ban the operators from travelling at such hours, we will approach the courts seeking an interdict. Our members are the ones being mostly affected and the trend shows that such fatal accidents occur mainly during the night.
It is not useful to continue watching such recklessness, while we lose breadwinners for so many families, who will be trying to eke out a living through cross-border trading.</blockquote>

Govt must ban buses from travelling at night or we will approach the courts: Cross border association

The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) is planning on making players called up for national duty to sign indemnity forms. The forms are meant to prevent those who sign them from boycotting matches or going on strike. This follows, an embarrassing incident for Zifa when Warriors players boycotted a farewell dinner where Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa was the guest of honour. The players were protesting over allowances and winning bonuses before they departed for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
The players who are reported to have led that boycott, Willard Katsande, Cuthbert Malajila, Nyasha Mushekwi and Matthew Rusike have all been dropped from the squad to play qualifiers.
According to online publication New Zimbabwe, some of the conditions on the indemnity forms read as follows:
<blockquote>…acceptance of Zifa’s choice of mode of payment and amount of allowances; acceptance without conditions of camping location and facilities.
Should a player not agree with any of the terms on the form they are free to go back home</blockquote>

Zifa to force Warriors to sign Indemnity Forms to prevent them from boycotting matches

<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Highlanders_Football_Club">Highlanders</a> have been ordered to play their <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Premier_Soccer_League">Castle Lager Premier Soccer League</a> match against <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Bulawayo_City_Football_Club">Bulawayo City</a> on Sunday in an empty stadium following their fans’ violent behaviour when they played <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Chicken_Inn_Football_Club">Chicken Inn</a> at <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Barbourfields_Stadium">Barbourfields </a>in August.
In addition to the ban, the Bulawayo giants were fined $3 500 for the same offence, but they will pay $2 000 after $1 500 was suspended on condition that the offence is not repeated this season. Highlanders were found guilty of contravening PSL regulations that hold the club responsible when fans throw missiles and invade the pitch.
In their defence, Highlanders argued at the hearing that the police were to blame, as they did not carry out thorough searches as fans entered the stadium. Bosso, who were represented by chief executive officer, Ndumiso Gumede, also suggested that some of the violence was caused by economic factors that the club had no control over.
Highlanders have indicated they will appeal the decision by the PSL.
