Zimbabwe international goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze was on Sunday stretchered off the pitch after suffering a horrific injury during the game against Maritzburg United.
Chipezeze landed awkwardly on his neck just ten minutes into the second half following an aerial collision with Maritzburg’s Judas Moseamedi.
He was taken off on a stretcher in the 58th, strapped with a neck guard and an oxygen mask.
The club later gave an update of the player’s condition on Twitter. The post read:
<blockquote>ELVIS CHIPEZEZE UPDATE
For now, it looks more like a Neck Muscle Sprain. There will be X-Rays done after the match as a precaution to exclude Cervical spine injuries.</blockquote>

Zimbabwe International Footballer Suffers Horrific Injury

Warriors goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze was recently appointed Absa Premiership side Baroka FC captain and led the club to a 1-0 win over Polokwane City in the Limpopo derby at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
Chipezeze replaced <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gerald_Phiri" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Gerald Phiri Jnr</a> as the captain. Speaking after the victory over Polokwane, the Zimbabwean goalkeeper said:
<blockquote>I have belief in the boys. I have been trying to push them to take each game as it comes because when you are down there, it’s not nice.
We have to fight and take each game as it comes for us to survive relegation.</blockquote>
Baroka’s victory was their first win in seven games and moved them up to 12th place on the Absa Premiership table but they are still just one point above the relegation zone.

Chipezeze Appointed Baroka FC Captain

Warriors goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze won the man of the match award for his heroics as Baroka FC overcame Polokwane City 1-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The win in the Limpopo derby takes Baroka FC off the bottom of the Absa Premiership table.
The only goal of the match was scored by Ranga Chivaviro from the penalty spot within the first minute of the match when Mpho Mvelase brought down Richard Mbulu inside the box.
Chipezeze was The Warriors’ third-choice goalkeeper at the 2019 <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Africa_Cup_of_Nations" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Africa Cup of Nations</a> and duly produced a horror show in the 4-0 loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo when he was handed the gloves.
He has, however, recovered from his Egyptian nightmare to leapfrog both Edmore Sibanda and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/George_Chigova" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">George Chigova</a> in the Warriors pecking order.

Elvis Chipezeze Wins Man Of The Match In Limpopo Derby

Warriors goalkeeper, Elvis Chipezeze was on Sunday voted man of the match after his heroics during his team, Baroka’s 0-0 draw against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in South Africa.
Chipezeze received a lot of slack from Warriors supporters following a below-par performance at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
He made a string of errors resulting in the Warriors’ humiliation by DRC as the former Chicken Inn shot-stopper conceded 4 goals.
Chipezeze is, however, a hero in the South African Absa Premiership with Baroka fans as he has saved the team on many occasions.
His dismal performance at AFCON has been attributed to lack of psychological preparedness for that game following George Chigova’s injury during the warm-up.

Chipezeze Named Man Of The Match In Absa Premiership Match

Premier Soccer League Champions, FC Platinum are in talks with South African side, Baroka FC over the possible re-signing of former striker, Rodwell Chinyengetere.
Pure Platinum Play is confident of signing Chinyengetere on loan after the player has fallen down the pecking order at the Absa premiership club.
This was confirmed by FC Platinum spokesperson Chido Chizondo in an interview with the Daily News. She said:
<blockquote>There is contact with Baroka on striker Chinyengetere to return to the club. We understand they exceeded their foreign quota and they contacted us if we are interested in a loan move.
We are very much interested and if all goes well, he should be joining us soon.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, FC Platinum has denied that it is facing a player crisis with “The Twins” having moved to South African side Chippa United and Ali Sadiki and Godknows Murwira no longer with the club. Said Chizondo:
<blockquote>There is nothing like a player crisis here. Of course, there is movement regards certain players like Kelvin and Elvis (Moyo) as well as Sadiki but we have already moved to replace those players.
Murwira has indicated he wants to move and we are negotiating with several teams who are interested in him.
For Dube, he has since relocated to the States to stay with his family. Mhari is still our player and is not going anywhere, the same as Madhanhanga.
So reports that there is a player crisis here are baseless. I don’t know where people are getting that from. For the record, FC Platinum have consistently paid their players.
The club has promoted Panashe Mutimbanyoka, Keith Madera and Hagiyazo Magaya from the junior development programme.
We have also signed Congolese striker Nsilia Mawete and we are only waiting for his clearance to arrive.</blockquote>

FC Platinum Set To Re-sign Chinyengetere On Loan

Warriors goalkeeper, Elvis Chipezeze, revealed that he has approached his lawyer in a bid to clear his name of accusations of match-fixing at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The 29-year-old, who plays for Baroka FC in the Absa Premiership, made high profile errors in the high stakes match against the DRC, with Zimbabwe being eliminated from the tournament following a 4-0 drubbing.
As a result of Chipezeze’s errors, many people suspected that he had been bribed.
Speaking to Limpopo Sports Zone after returning to his base in South Africa, Chipezeze said:
<blockquote>You can’t sell games at the biggest stage of the competition where you need to make a name for yourself. I don’t even support that thing (match-fixing).
I have been talking to my Lawyer and he was telling me he is going to look into the issue maybe see what he can do to clear my name.</blockquote>
Chipezeze believes that the DRC match will not be his last to feature for the national team. He said:
<blockquote>It was probably the worse game of my life but that was not the last time for me playing for the national team.</blockquote>

Chipezeze Engages Lawyer Over Match-fixing Allegations

ABSA Premiership side Baroka FC coach Wedson Nyirenda has come to the defence of Warriors goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze following his howlers which gave DRC goals in an Africa Cup of Nations match last month.
Chipezeze was a late replacement for first-choice goalkeeper George Chogova who puled out with a hamstring injury during the warm-up.
Nyirenda blamed the Warriors defence for their failure to react quickly which resulted in goals. Speaking to the Sowetan, Nyirenda said:
<blockquote>He did not expect to start the match after the first choice George Chigova got injured during the warm-up. You could see in the way he conceded.
If you look at the first goal, where he fumbled the ball, where were the defenders? Two strikers from Congo were the ones who fought for that ball. The defence should have covered.</blockquote>

Baroka FC Coach, Nyirenda Defends Elvis Chipezeze Over AFCON Howlers

South African Premiership side Baroka FC has signed Zimbabwean Talent Chawapiwa on a three year deal.
Chawapiwa signed with Baroka after having spent just 6 months with FC Platinum. He previously spent three years with Harare City as well as a stint at ZPC Kariba.  Zambian club Lusaka Dynamos were also interested in signing Chawapiwa.
