A Belgian goalkeeper suffered a suspected heart attack and died moments after saving a penalty.
Arne Espeel (25), was in action for Winkel Sport B against Westrozebeke in the Belgian seventh tier on Saturday when the tragic incident occurred.
<a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/21369316/goalkeeper-dead-heart-attack-arne-espeel-winkel-sport/">The Sun</a> reported that Espeel’s club were leading 2-1 when the opposition were awarded a spot-kick early in the second half.
He correctly dived the right way to save the penalty but straight after celebrating, the footballer collapsed onto the turf.
Medics raced onto the field to try to save the player as emergency services rushed to the scene.
However, Espeel was announced dead in the hospital.
The goalkeeper collapsed in front of his watching parents and his brother Aaron, who was on the subs’ bench for Winkel Sport.
Following Espeel’s death, the club issued a statement that read:

Arne has played for us since he was a kid, and everybody really liked him.
It’s impossible to understand how something like this could happen to someone so young.
He had been a completely healthy young lad before.

Members of Winkel Sport B were expected to pay tribute to their late team-mate on Monday by walking through the streets of the village Sint-Eloois-Winkel, in West Flanders, where the club is based.

Belgian Goalkeeper (25) Dies Moments After Saving Penalty

Dynamos winger Bill Antonio is reportedly set to undergo a month-long trial stint with Belgian top-flight football side KV Mechelen.
The 19-year-old Prince Edward Academy graduate was initially supposed to go to Belgium in 2019 but the dates kept on changing as he was supposed to first get more game-time at Dynamos, his agent Pat Jefferson said in March.
The Herald quoted a close source at Dynamos, who asked not to be identified, saying Antonio finally left the country on Tuesday afternoon. Said the source:

Yes, Bill (Antonio) has finally gone for trials in Belgium. He will have a month with KV Mechelen who will be assessing him.
It has been in the pipeline for a long time now and the player left on Tuesday and was expected to arrive today (yesterday).

Antonio was missing at Dynamos’ training session on Wednesday amid reports that KV Mechelen is literally ready to sign him.
The Belgian club has close links with the Glamour Boys. DeMbare coach Tonderai Ndiraya spent over a month attached to the Belgian club where he got access to modern coaching material two years ago.
Dynamos also received an assortment of equipment in 2020 to help the technical team implement a scientific approach to their methods from KV Mechelen.

Bill Antonio In Belgium For Trials

19-year-old Dynamos winger Bill Antonio’s trial stint in Belgium is now in doubt due to differences between the player’s agent, Placcedes Jefferson, and his father, Nowell Antonio.
Bill was invited for trials by Pro League side KV Mechelen for assessment from 1 to 30 April this year but he is yet to get the visa and other necessary documentation for the trip.
Speaking to The Herald on Monday, Bill’s Father, Nowell, said the people representing his son are not operating in good faith. He said:

The people in Belgium called and said they wanted Bill for trials to see if he has the qualities that they would want.
I feel this is a very good opportunity for Bill and as a father I can only encourage him to remain focused on his game, put in a lot of effort and give it a try because it’s all about his career.
But the issue now is that the people who are supposed to be fronting this are not operating in good faith and there is a danger that the boy could run into problems in the future.
As a father, I am duty-bound to avoid that at all costs because I came a long way in supporting my son’s education and his fledgling football career.
… there are people waiting to manipulate his minor status. A registered UK-based intermediary had offered to assist because these people are not operating in good faith. But the agent is not playing ball.

Dad, Agent Disagreement Threaten Bill Antonio's Belgium Trial

A Belgian zoo has said its two hippopotamuses have been taken into quarantine after testing positive for coronavirus.
Antwerp Zoo said it is unclear how Imani, aged 14, and Hermien, 41, caught the virus adding that the animals were doing well – apart from having runny noses.
Restrictions have been tightened at the zoo until the animals test negative.
Globally, there have been several reports of captive and domesticated animals infected with Sars-CoV-2.
The hippos’ noses are usually wet, but vets at Antwerp Zoo decided to test the pair after they noticed they were “expelling snot”.
Their enclosure has been sealed off. Their handlers – who have tested negative – must wear masks and safety glasses, and disinfect their footwear before any contact with the hippos. Said Antwerp Zoo vet Francis Vercammen:

To my knowledge, it’s the first recorded contamination among this species. Throughout the world this virus has mostly been seen in great apes and felines.

Earlier this week, Canada also confirmed that three COVID-19 cases had been discovered in wild deer – the first such report in the country’s wildlife.
But limited testing means no one knows how prevalent coronavirus is in the wild.

Two Belgian Zoo Hippos Test Positive For COVID-19, Quarantined

Belgium have been knocked out of the Euro 2020 following a 2-1 defeat of Italy on Friday night. Italy progress to the semi-finals.
Belgium were without Eden Hazard after he limped off against Portugal, he was been replaced by fast-paced Doku in the starting line-up.
De Bruyne was also forced off with an injury in that game but started for the Red Devils.

Italy dominated the match in both halves of a game full of chances.

The Italian defence then used all of their experience to stand firm and hold on for the win.
Meanwhile, Spain progressed to the semi-finals after beating Switzerland 3-1 on penalties.
The Swiss went behind through an own goal but equalised through Shaqiri before having Freuler sent off.
They held on through extra time to take it to penalties but faltered where they thrived on Monday. Simon made two saves and Vargas missed, and Spain’s three was enough to go through.

Italy has joined the Netherlands and Belgium in banning flights from the United Kingdom where cases of a more infectious variant of coronavirus are reported to be rising at an aggressive speed. Belgium, Netherlands Ban Flights And Trains From UK

Dynamos coach <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tonderai_Ndiraya" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Tonderai Ndiraya</a> has left for Belgium for a two-week attachment with Belgian top-flight side KV Mechelen.
Ndiraya was accompanied to the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Gabriel_Mugabe_International_Airport" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport</a> by board chairman Bernard Marriot and club chief executive <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jonathan_Mashingaidze" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Jonathan Mashingaidze</a> on his departure on Wednesday afternoon.
The development was confirmed by Mashingaidze in an interview with The Sunday Mail Online. He said:
<blockquote>I can confirm that Ndiraya has left for Belgium. He will be at KV Mechelen, a top Belgian side for two weeks.</blockquote>
The publication reports that Belgian sports consultant, Gino Laureyssen, who also worked with CAPS United when they won back-to-back league titles in 2004 and 2005, brokered a partnership arrangement between KV Mechelen and Dynamos under which Ndiraya was offered an attachment with the Belgian club.
KV Mechelen, who have four league championships, are currently seventh on the 16-team Belgian First Division A after 26 rounds of action.

Warriors captain <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Knowledge_Musona" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Knowledge Musona</a> has joined Belgian side K.A.S Eupen on loan from Anderlecht until the end of the season after impressing on trial.
Speaking after the signing at a press conference on Friday, coach Beñat San José highlighted Musona’s ability to score and create goals. He said:
<blockquote>Knowledge Musona has integrated very well into the team. He is a player who offers us additional opportunities in attack. He can score goals himself, but he can also support his teammates with good passes.</blockquote>
Musona trained with the Eupen in Doha, Qatar last week and impressed the technical team.

This was revealed in a statement on the club’s official website, KAS Eupen statement read:

Musona Start Trials In Belgium

A nine-year-old Walloon boy will become the youngest ever graduate at the end of this year as he is set to complete his Electrical Engineering Degree from the Eindhoven University of Technology in December.
Laurent Simons, who is half Dutch and half Belgium, has an IQ of at least 145 and a photographic memory. Prestigious universities around the world are already competing for him. One of the boy’s mentors, John Wilkes, said:
<blockquote>He really was a delight to tutor and very well balanced, able to be like a child and an adult at the same time. I taught him when he was six years and we studied at the level of a 16-year-old.
I really would recommend Oxford for him. He would develop somewhere the environment is about learning rather than being taught. For someone like Laurent that is ideal.</blockquote>
Laurent began his university studies in March and has nearly completed in just nine months.
He finished secondary school aged eight after completing six years of education in just a year and a half.

9-year-old Belgian Boy Attains Engineering Degree

Zimbabwean international footballer, Divine Lunga is a reported transfer target of Belgian side K.R.C. Genk and unnamed clubs in the French Ligue 1 following his stellar performances at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Lunga’s manager, Gibson Mahachi on Thursday confirmed that there is interest for Lunga from clubs in France and Belgium, but did not name them. He said:
<blockquote>Yes, there are inquiries from clubs in France and Belgium. I am currently seized with those inquiries, but I can’t reveal the identity of the clubs at this stage.

Professional football coach and former Dynamos and Warriors player, Moses Chunga, is in Belgium where he was honoured by his former club, SC Eendracht Aalst at an event on Friday, 21 June. Chunga was named in the Team of the Century at Eendracht Aalst and he’s in Belgium to receive the honour.

Bambo Chunga Celebrates Selection In 'Team Of Century' At Former Club In Belgium

Former Dynamos and Warriors player, Moses “Bambo” Chunga has been honoured by former Belgian club Eendracht Aalst.
Chunga, who played for the club for 5 years and was at one point made captain, has been named in the Team of the Century. In an invitation letter seen by The Herald, the club wrote:
<blockquote>Your former football club, Eendracht Aalst, is celebrating its 100th birthday next month.
… You have been nominated for our ‘Team of the Century’, which, I am confident, you will consider as a great honour.</blockquote>
In accepting the honour bestowed upon him, Chunga said:
<blockquote>It’s amazing that the story never ends and that’s what happens when you have a truly professional set-up because history will always be considered very important at such institutions because it helped shape what they are today.</blockquote>
Bambo became the first in-field Zimbabwean footballer, after Independence, to move to a European club.
This was during a time when it was difficult for African players to find clubs in Europe.

Moses Chunga Honoured By Former Belgian Club

The new Belgian ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Didier Vanderhasselt presented his letters of credence to President Mnangagwa at State House in Harare today and spoke to journalists afterwards.
Mr Vanderhasselt said the Chamber of Commerce of Belgium Luxemburg and ACP in Brussels is considering organising a trade mission to Zimbabwe in January to assess the situation.
Last to present his letters of credence on Thursday was the new ambassador of Mali Mr Mahamane Aoudou Cisse who said Mali is interested in cooperating with Zimbabwe, especially in the areas of mining and cattle breeding.
