ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha, has made explosive allegations against former ZANU PF Central Committee member Blessed Runesu Geza, accusing him of being dishonest and greedy.
Machacha claimed that during the liberation war in Mozambique, Geza used to steal from the logistics warehouse and resell goods to villagers.
Geza, who recently broke ranks with some of his colleagues in ZANU PF over the party’s push to amend the constitution and allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa to serve a third term, has been accused of various crimes, including rape, murder and theft.
What has raised eyebrows is that these allegations have only surfaced now, after Geza’s fallout with the ruling party.
In a video shared by ZANU PF on social media, Machacha, while addressing party members at an undisclosed location, revealed that he is related to Geza. He said:

I acknowledge that Geza is my uncle. You heard him rant that l am his nephew, yes, it’s true. I am not speaking of a person that l am not familiar with. We were together at Chimoio during the war.

Machacha claimed that Geza never spent a single day at Chimoio Camp, instead focusing on stealing from the logistics warehouse and reselling goods to villagers from nearby settlements. He said:

There was a big hall which served as a logistics warehouse where clothes for guerilla fighters were stored. Bombshell would go there and steal jeans and shirts, which he would go and sell in the villages or exchange for beer or cigarettes.
He literally never spent a single day in camp. Each morning, he would go around villages and get chicken, beer cigarettes and Saraveji.

Machacha also claimed that after being caught stealing, Geza would receive corporal punishment, including flogging on the buttocks by security details at the camp, yet he remained unrepentant.
Machacha also alleged that when Geza was sent to Romania for military training, he falsely told Romanian authorities that he was the son of nationalist Robert Mugabe, which resulted in him being treated as a Very Important Person (VIP). He said:

The correct fact was that Geza’s elder brother was married to Mugabe’s sister. He would be chauffeured in limousines around Romania.

Machacha claimed that during a military operation in Mozambique, Geza tricked FRELIMO soldiers by intoxicating them before stealing the engines from their Scania trucks, which he then smuggled into Zimbabwe.
Geza was accused of raiding white commercial farmers’ cattle during the land reform and taking control of abattoirs, where he slaughtered the stolen cattle for sale.
Machacha also alleged that during the Chiadzwa diamond rush, Geza, who was appointed as Mbada Diamonds’ security officer, looted the diamonds.
The commissar suggested that Geza’s feud with President Mnangagwa started after he was disqualified from contesting the 2018 elections for the Sanyati constituency due to a pending rape case involving a local schoolgirl.
Given all these allegations, one might wonder how many of the surviving war veterans truly fought in the liberation struggle, as it seems that when a veteran falls out of favor with the party, they are often accused of not having participated in the war.

A group of 98 suspected protesters, accused of participating in demonstrations in Harare on March 31 to demand President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s resignation, were denied bail on Thursday by Harare Magistrate Isheanesu Matova.
In his ruling, Magistrate Matova agreed with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) that the group was likely to reoffend if released on bail. Said Matova:

It is in the interest of justice that the accused persons should be detained on the grounds of public safety.
The release of the accused will likely cause commotion in the country and lead them to reconvene with their leader.

Of the 98 accused, 95 are scheduled to return to court on April 24 for a routine appearance, while the remaining three will appear separately.
The State alleges that the group took part in an unlawful gathering with the intent to incite public violence.
The protests were reportedly organised by expelled ZANU PF Central Committee member and war veteran Blessed Geza, aimed at pressuring President Emmerson Mnangagwa to step down.
According to prosecutors, on March 31, 2025, at approximately 9:20 AM, the suspects assembled at Robert Mugabe Square—commonly known as Freedom Square—with the intention of marching through the streets of Harare.
Prosecutors charge that the group also wanted to proceed “to the State House of Zimbabwe and forcibly remove the constitutionally elected President Emmerson Mnangagwa.”

Police officers who were deployed for maintenance of order observed about 200 people gathered and approached the group.
The accused piled stones, bricks and tyres along Robert Mugabe road. They threw stones towards the police officers whilst singing ‘Hatidi zvekupihwa order nemasasikamu’. They also took themselves pictures and videos which they posted on various social media platforms.
The accused 1 to 94 were arrested at the crime scene while accused 95 was arrested at his residence through identification from circulating pictures and videos.

This latest land allocation has sparked outrage and is being widely viewed as an attempt to placate MPs, just a week after outspoken war veteran Blessed Geza publicly called for President Mnangagwa’s impeachment. 
Geza has been demanding Mnangagwa’s immediate resignation, accusing him of enabling widespread corruption by those close to him.
Further controversy surrounds the fact that some of the MPs set to benefit from the land had already received a minimum of US$40,000 in 2022, presented as housing loans. Cabinet Ministers, by comparison, were given US$500,000, while Deputy Ministers and Judges were also allocated huge sums under the same scheme.
Marondera Central legislator Caston Matewu (CCC), whose name appeared on a list of beneficiaries, confirmed the reports on social media but said he had declined the offer.
Other CCC MPs listed as beneficiaries include Bridget Nyandoro, Nohlahla Mlotswa, Sengezo Tshabangu, Charles Moyo, and Julia Makuwire.

War veteran and former ZANU PF Central Committee member, Blessed Runesu Geza, also known as “Comrade Bombshell,” has faced a setback in his attempt to impeach President Emmerson Mnangagwa this month after Parliament adjourned until 6 May 2025.
On 8 April 2025, both the National Assembly and the Senate met briefly for about seven minutes to make announcements before adjourning until 6 May. The Houses had previously sat on 3 April and adjourned to 8 April.
The adjournment is likely due to the Easter holiday and the upcoming Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), which will take place in Bulawayo.
Geza had previously expressed his intention to introduce the impeachment motion this week, stating that “the die has been cast” and that “the motion is already in motion.”
However, with the adjournment, Geza will now have to wait nearly a month before he can formally introduce the motion in the National Assembly—assuming he has a member of Parliament to move it.
For a motion to appear on the Parliament Order Paper, it must be moved by an MP and seconded by another. At present, there is no indication of who will move or second the motion on Geza’s behalf.

Geza’s Attempt To Impeach Mnangagwa Hits Setback As Parliament Adjourns

The government has dismissed fugitive war veteran Blessed Geza’s attempt to introduce a motion in the National Assembly to impeach President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
On Sunday, the Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Jenfan Muswere, asserted that the impeachment attempt would fail due to a lack of cross-party support, adding that the grounds for the proposed impeachment were based on falsehoods.
Muswere dismissed the former ZANU PF Central Committee member as a “fugitive terrorist, whose nom de guerre is Cde Bombshell,” but remarked, “there is nothing bombshell about him; he is just an empty shell.” Said Muswere:

The so-called impeachment paper being circulated by Geza is of no value and not worth the paper it is written on. It’s not even worth the time and energy to read it.
The people of Zimbabwe and their Members of Parliament are solidly behind their President whom they overwhelmingly elected in 2023. That impeachment will never succeed.

Last week, a ZANU PF faction opposed to Mnangagwa released a draft impeachment motion, alleging his “inability to perform the functions of the office of President due to a lack of mental capacity” and corruption.
The motion was made public after Geza announced his group’s intention to pursue impeachment following recent protests.
Citing Section 97 of the Zimbabwean Constitution, the motion also accuses the President of “willful violation of the Constitution” due to this alleged lack of mental capacity.
The draft motion claims that Mnangagwa is suffering from “severe cognitive decline” resulting from a medically diagnosed condition of “vascular dementia.”
It further alleges that this condition has caused “persistent and recurrent cognitive deficits, failures, and relapses,” rendering him incapable of fulfilling his presidential duties. Part of the motion reads:

Whereas section 97 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe provides for the removal of the President from office on any of the five (5) grounds set out in section 97(1) (a) to (e).
Whereas circumstances and events have arisen as well as facts ascertained from medical teams dealing with the situation of the mental health and capacity of the President, that the President as of this day the 30th of March 2025 has been physically ascertained and medically confirmed to be exhibiting severe cognitive decline, affecting both long and short memory and thinking, judgment and behavior.

However, Muswere asserted that Mnangagwa’s support spans across the political divide, with many opposition MPs also backing him.
He described Geza’s grounds for impeachment as a “vexatious figment of his imagination that will never see the light of day.” Said Muswere:

Outspoken war veteran Blessed Runesu Geza, also known as Comrade Bombshell, has accused businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei of causing problems in the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Zimbabwe.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, April 2, Geza said Tagwirei has damaged the church’s reputation. He said:

Geza accused Tagwirei of benefiting from government contracts without proper financial contributions, alleging that the government covers any associated costs. He said:

You’re being given government companies without paying any cent. If there is any money that is being paid, it is the government that pays on your behalf. You’re greedy. You’re a very toxic man.

Prominent lawyer Advocate Thabani Mpofu, a member of the SDA church, said he does not agree with Tagwirei’s current moves. Said Mpofu:

Tagwirei has been accused of causing division in the SDA church in Harare by using his financial influence to win over pastors and elders, making them loyal to him.

We are impeaching Emmerson on the grounds that he is no longer mentally fit to lead the country.
We are constitutionalists, so we are using the Constitution to rescue the country. Section 97(1)(d) of the Constitution provides for the removal of a president on the grounds of inability to perform presidential functions due to a lack of mental capacity.

Geza claimed that President Mnangagwa suffers from vascular dementia and is no longer capable of effectively carrying out his presidential duties.
Vascular dementia is a condition caused by reduced blood flow to the brain, leading to brain cell damage. This can impair cognitive functions such as memory, thinking, and problem-solving. Said Geza:

Mnangagwa is suffering from vascular dementia. We have copies of his medical results. His doctors have already informed him, his family is aware, and the looting mafia is also aware.”
Unfortunately, some members of his family and the looting mafia, led by Kudakwashe Tagwirei, are exploiting his condition. They are taking advantage of his memory loss and confusion to make him sign documents that facilitate their corruption and looting.
Because of this vascular dementia, Mnangagwa is no longer aware of what is happening around him. It is so serious that last Thursday, he even forgot who July Moyo was or which ministry he runs. He argues with his aides about whether he is at home or at the office—that is how bad it has become.”
As a result, vultures are circling around him, looting in his name, selling state-owned companies, and even hiring and firing government officials on his behalf. That is how bad things have gotten.

Geza asserted that some unelected people are now wielding presidential powers and making decisions, including awarding government tenders, without any official mandate. He said:
<blockquote>
Dubious characters, whom you didn’t elect, are now exercising presidential powers. They follow him to his farm to distribute government tenders in his name. They seize land in his name. They even appoint and dismiss army generals on his behalf. It has become a free-for-all for the criminals surrounding him.

In May 2018, Mnangagwa told ZANU-PF members that he had received intelligence indicating some aspiring MPs were plotting to impeach him once elected.
In November 2017, the Parliament of Zimbabwe initiated an impeachment process against former President Robert Mugabe. 
However, Mugabe resigned before the proceedings could be completed, following the military’s actions that rendered him incommunicado.

During an address to the nation on Monday evening, Geza alleged that President Mnangagwa’s plan was to marginalise Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and allow Tagwirei to replace him.
According to reports, the plan is for Tagwirei to first take Chiwenga’s position as Vice President before being groomed as Mnangagwa’s successor.
Geza, who has accused Tagwirei of corruption, vowed to thwart what he claims is a plan being orchestrated by Mnangagwa and his wife, Auxillia, to elevate Tagwirei to the presidency. Said Geza:

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) opposed bail for all the accused.
Lawyers representing the 95 detainees and prosecutors will submit written bail arguments, with the court scheduled to deliver its decision on April 10.

Former Mt Pleasant MP, Fadzayi Mahere (CCC), has criticized the government for its harsh and often violent responses to opposition protests, highlighting the frequent use of abductions, torture, and arrests on false charges, particularly when the protests are linked to former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa.
She pointed out that while the government has historically cracked down on opposition members and activists, no such actions have been taken against people from the ruling party, even when they call for unrest.
Mahere’s comments after on March 31, former ZANU PF Central Committee member and war veteran Blessed Geza, along with some other war veterans, called for an “uprising,” but none of the instigators have been arrested.
Mahere cited several cases where opposition figures, particularly those linked to Chamisa, have been arrested, tortured, or jailed without trial after being suspected of organising protests. She wrote on X:
There’s an unpopular truth that’s missing in the discourse. If the main opposition had organised a protest, key actors would have been abducted and tortured well ahead of the protests.
Any convenors would have been arrested on bogus charges. CIO agents would have been stalking people’s cars. They would have remained in jail for hundreds of days with no bail.
The whole reason Jameson Timba and over 70 others were tortured and arrested is because the regime thought they were planning a protest ahead of the SADC Summit.
Amos Chibaya with a number of opposition members has very recently been wrongly convicted because of a meeting held in Budiriro where the regime thought a protest was being planned.
Job Sikhala was arrested and detained for over 500 days because they thought he was planning a demonstration in Nyatsime in response to Moreblessing Ali’s gruesome murder.
Takudzwa Ngadziore was abducted on his way to Parliament because they thought he was mobilising young people to demonstrate.
The “MDC Trio”, that is, Joana Mamombe Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova were abducted, tortured and sexually assaulted because they were part of a hunger protest.
Womberraiishe Nhende was abducted and tortured because the regime believed a protest was in the works and he was a key mobilizer.
I could go as there are numerous examples of this.
While there may have been police on the streets yesterday, we did not see the usual arbitrary arrests, beatings, torture, abductions and prolonged illegal detentions we normally see when the opposition plans or is thought to be planning a protest.
There is something that hits different when people aligned to Nelson Chamisa plan any protests against the mass poverty, injustice and corruption of ZANU PF.
We need new leaders.

Zimbabwe experienced a “shutdown” on Monday, March 31, as people stayed away from cities, following a call for demonstrations by Blessed Geza, a former member of the ZANU PF party.
Most businesses in major cities like Harare were closed, the streets were empty, and schoolchildren stayed home. However, rural areas were not as affected.
There was a heavy police presence in urban areas, and clashes occurred in Harare when police used force to disperse protesters near the Harare Magistrates’ Court. The police fired tear gas to break up the crowd, causing protesters to scatter.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200040237/protests-shut-down-zimbabwe">NewsDay</a>, political analyst Ibbo Mandaza said that the success of the stayaway sent a strong message to the government. Said Mandaza:

Former University of Zimbabwe lecturer Eldred Masunungure told NewsDay that although the organisers made a mistake by urging Zimbabweans to confront a “vicious” government ready to stop demonstrations, the fact that people ignored the government’s call to go about their daily activities was still a success for the organisers. It was also clear that there was no ultimate winner because the people stayed home, and staying away was also a statement from the ordinary people.

In another interview with the Associated Press, Masunungure said that Geza will have a hard time getting people to support him because they might see him as part of the ZANU PF party. He said:

ZRP Dismisses Viral Videos Of Robert Mugabe Square Demo, Calls Videos "Old Footage"

Zimbabwe police fired teargas to disperse  a few protesters that gathered in Harare at Freedom Square this morning. The square is an open field that lies between Rainbow Towers on one side, and Interpol and the Harare Magistrate’s Court on the other.
The few protestors gathered in response to a call by fugitive War Veteran, Blessed Geza who has called on President Mnangagwa to resign. Most of the city centre was however quiet as most Zimbabwean chose to stay at home, leaving the CBD empty. School students also largely stayed away from school.
The government had assured citizens that the 31st of March would be a usual day with people and businesses encouraged to go about their normal activities as they would have protection of the police. This assurance though has largely been ignored by Zimbabweans.
In a statement on X today, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said officers are conducting patrols to maintain order, urging the public to go about their daily activities without fear.

ZRP Urge Zimbabweans To Ignore Social Media Incitement To Public Violence

The NewsHawks reported that a state security official dealing with the current situation, including the planned March 31 protests, said that people may be the biggest losers again in the latest round of the ZANU PF succession battle.
The official, who was not named for professional and security reasons, is quoted as saying:

Geza, a former Sanyati MP and ZANU PF Central Committee member, claims that individuals close to Mnangagwa are looting the country for personal gain, while the majority of Zimbabweans continue to suffer in extreme poverty.
However, top security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed concerns to The NewsHawks about the “real motive” behind the loud calls to oust Mnangagwa.
They warned that the situation resembles the empty “Mugabe must go” slogan from the past, lacking a clear plan for what would follow or how to secure the people’s interests.
The security officials also voiced concern over the country being swept into an internal ZANU PF issue, without clarifying how such a shift would improve the living conditions and material well-being of the people. Said the official:

Who benefits from this? That question must be asked upfront, not later. Yes, Geza has tried to seize the moment and opportunity of socio-economic disgruntlement around the country to fuel and incite anger against Mnangagwa’s government, but do you think people benefit from this? Ordinary people don’t seem enthusiastic about street protests and may just stay away. 
It is because they don’t trust the process and don’t want to be used again, as happened in 2017.
While the disgruntled war veterans have gained a lot of popularity and traction with Geza’s incessant attacks, that whole cabal, fronting some wounded interests and comrades, has made some strategic blunders by revealing why they want regime change.
It is all about themselves, not the people. They are fighting for their time to eat. It might be difficult to mobilise the people for March 31. Yes, people are suffering, but they don’t want to be used. That is clear. 
The situation is made worse by the fact that people like popular opposition leader Nelson Chamisa and those within his latent structures are not involved in this.
In our assessment, based on the current situation and past experiences, Zimbabweans are not only wiser-after they were used, shortchanged and abandoned in 2017-but also contextual and discerning.

March 31 Protests: Zimbabweans Warned Against Being Exploited In ZANU PF Succession Battle

Former ZANU PF central committee member, Blessed Runesu Geza, says there is no justification for 16 million Zimbabweans to suffer at the hands of what he referred to as criminals surrounding President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
On Wednesday, 26 March 2025, Geza released a new video reiterating his calls for “an uprising” to force Mnangagwa to resign on March 31. He declared:

We’re dealing with Mnangagwa on March 31 but these criminals we’re going after them starting from now.
These people think they’re very clever, but they’re going to regret. It’s they who will in the end voluntarily go to Mnangagwa and say ‘please go now, we’re suffering’.

Zimbabweans Urged To Ignore Geza’s "Delusional Rumblings"

Former ZANU PF Central Committee member Blessed Runesu Geza has dismissed his expulsion from the party, arguing that President Emmerson Mnangagwa and those supporting an extension of his second term from 2028 to 2030 should be the ones to leave.

Geza is also facing criminal charges for things like stealing, disrespecting the President, and trying to start violence. Geza is in hiding because of these charges.

ZANU PF Expels War Veteran Blessed Geza

National Prosecuting Authority on Wednesday, 26 February, dropped the charges against Basil Nyabadza, the former chairman of the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA), before he could enter a plea.
Nyabadza is accused of defrauding Blessed Geza of US$1,362,000 in a land deal. Geza, a veteran of Zimbabwe’s War of Independence and a member of the ZANU PF Central Committee, is currently hiding because he faces charges of inciting violence, theft, and insulting the president.
As reported by <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/geza-loses-case/">The Herald</a>, prosecutor Anesu Chirenje told the court that Nyabadza would be summoned again once Geza is available to appear in court.
Nyabadza disagreed with this decision and wanted the charges to be read to him and the trial to begin.
However, the new magistrate, Donald Ndirowei, who replaced Tilda Mazhande after she stepped down in the morning, agreed with the State’s decision to drop the charges before the plea.
Dropping the charges before the plea means that the evidence could be used again if Nyabadza is tried in the future.
If the charges had been dropped after the plea, it would have been an automatic acquittal, and the evidence could not be used again.
Last week, Magistrate Mazhande had warned that she would remove Nyabadza from remand if Geza did not appear in court, but Mazhande later stepped down from the case for personal reasons.
It is alleged that on October 29, 2020, Geza purchased a 423,504-hectare piece of land from Nyabadza for US$1,362,000, with Geza granted exclusive rights to subdivide, develop, and sell the land.
Nyabadza reportedly misrepresented that the land had title deeds, promising to provide them within a month but never did.
While Geza was working on subdivision permits, he discovered that Nyabadza had sold the same land to Velda Estates.
Geza later learned that the sale agreement had been cancelled without his knowledge after attempting to resolve the matter with Nyabadza.

Alpha Media Holdings’ senior reporter, Blessed Mhlanga, handed himself over to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Law and Order division at Harare Central Police Station on Monday morning. He was promptly arrested and charged.
Last week, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi appealed to the public for help in locating Mhlanga, who was wanted for violating a section of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Mhlanga said on Friday he could not report to the police due to illness.
On Monday, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) confirmed that Mhlanga had been arrested and charged with two counts of violating Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly transmitting data messages that incite violence. Said ZLHR:

The charge emanates from some statements, which were allegedly uttered by Blessing Geza, a liberation war veteran and a ZANU PF political party central committee member on 27 January 2025 and on 11 February 2025.
Mhlanga, who works for HStv, was interrogated by ZRP officers on Monday 24 February 2025 about the broadcaster’s operations and press conferences allegedly addressed by Geza.
Mhlanga, who is represented by Chris Mhike of [the ZLHR], is set to be detained overnight at Harare Central Police Station and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

Blessed Mhlanga, a reporter, was arrested for interviewing Blessed Geza, a political party member. The police accused Mhlanga of sharing messages that cause violence. He was supposed to go to the police last week but said he was sick. His lawyers said he will stay in jail overnight and go to court the next day. Blessed Mhlanga Arrested For Interviewing Blessed Geza

The controversial war veteran and ZANU PF Central Committee member Blessed Runesu Geza has refuted rumours that he has been arrested or gone into hiding.
In a message to HStv, Geza asserted that war veterans are prepared to drive change in the country and announced that he will soon hold a press conference to provide further clarification. He said:

We are ready to bring change and no amount of threats and lies will derail the struggle. The signal is coming.

Geza gained public attention several weeks ago when he openly criticised ZANU PF’s proposed constitutional amendment that would allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in office beyond 2028, after his second and final term ends.
Geza and his supporters have not only opposed the prospect of a third Mnangagwa term but have also demanded the President’s immediate resignation, accusing him of incompetence, corruption, nepotism, and cronyism.
However, Geza’s outspoken stance has drawn the ire of the state. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has filed criminal charges against him.
Last Wednesday, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi issued a statement saying that Geza was wanted for questioning in connection with four separate criminal charges.
Geza faces allegations of theft under Section 113 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act (Chapter 9: 23), related to the alleged theft and sale of three vehicles belonging to a complainant without consent.
He is also being charged with two counts of “Undermining the Authority of or Insulting the President” under Section 33 (2) (a) (ii) of the same Act.
Lastly, Geza faces a charge of “Incitement to Commit Public Violence” under Section 187 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act (Chapter 9: 23).
Nyathi further warned that anyone assisting Geza in evading police questioning would face arrest and prosecution.
Critics have raised concerns over the timing of the theft charges, suggesting that they could be politically motivated.
Some argue that Geza is being persecuted for challenging Mnangagwa, while others speculate that if the charges are genuine, then it proves that rogues and criminals are protected as long as they toe the party line.

ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa denied claims of factionalism within the party on Thursday, saying that war veteran Blessed Runesu Geza, also known as Bombshell, is being used to further a specific agenda, reported <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/mutsvangwa-avoids-tackling-zanu-pf-factionalism-head-on-claims-vocal-geza-being-used/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>.
There is a widespread belief that ZANU PF is currently divided, with one faction pushing for the postponement of the 2028 general elections to allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in power until 2030, while another faction, reportedly backing Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, supports adherence to the constitutionally mandated two-term limit.
Neither Mnangagwa nor Chiwenga has publicly acknowledged these emerging factions.
Factional tensions became evident recently when two groups of ZANU PF supporters were heard chanting pro-Mnangagwa and pro-Chiwenga songs at the Heroes Acre.
Geza, along with some war veterans, has publicly called for Mnangagwa to step down, accusing him of cronyism, corruption, and nepotism.
At a media briefing at the ZANU PF headquarters on Thursday, Mutsvangwa dismissed Geza’s stance, claiming that he was being misled by “fools.” He said:

Comrade Geza, I do not know what other issues might be bothering you, but we, the war veterans, always remember… I wish he would not follow fools who are misleading him. Mnangagwa’s term is set to end in 2028, and he has repeatedly stated that he will not seek another term. However, critics remain sceptical, as current developments suggest the opposite.

ZANU PF spokesperson Mutsvangwa says war veteran Geza is being misled by people with their own agenda in the party. Some believe there are factions in ZANU PF, one supporting Mnangagwa staying in power beyond 2028, while another supports following the term limits. Mutsvangwa denies factionalism in the party. Geza and some war veterans want Mnangagwa to step down, but Mutsvangwa says Geza is being misled. Mnangagwa has said he won't seek another term after 2028, but some are unsure.

Mutsvangwa: War Veteran Bombshell Geza Being Misled By "Fools"

ZANU PF Secretary for War Veterans, Douglas Mahiya, warned war veterans opposing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s extended rule that they could be silenced indefinitely, reported <a href="https://cite.org.zw/mahiya-threatens-to-silence-war-veterans-opposing-mnangagwas-extended-stay-in-office/">CITE</a>.
His remarks were aimed at Blessed Runesu Geza and other veterans critical of Mnangagwa’s leadership, citing issues like corruption and cronyism.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched a manhunt for Geza, who faces criminal charges, including theft, undermining the authority of the President and incitement to violence.
Mahiya also claimed that had Mnangagwa been less principled, ZANU PF could have declared a state of emergency to extend his rule, citing the sanctions imposed on the country as akin to a declaration of war by Western powers.
Mahiya made comments during the launch of a War Veterans Fund and empowerment programme in Bulawayo on Saturday. Said Mahiya:

We were sanctioned by the West. That’s a sign that we are in a war. When a country has sanctions, when people are in a war, they can stop going for elections because they are in a war and declare a state of emergency.
Mnangagwa is a proper, listening, educated leader, but if the country was under someone else, we could have declared that ‘we are in a state of emergency and there are no elections.’ Then we would remove Mnangagwa from power only if he died…
The leadership we want is not one of a person who is highly educated or who has a character that we don’t know.
We want a leader who has a character and hunhu that we know, and that has been shown by Mnangagwa in the period that he has been running the country. He can extend his term so that the population can benefit.
So if you refuse, we have the right, although forbidden by the law, to act otherwise to stop you indefinitely from saying such things.

Mahiya warned war veterans not to believe that their participation in the liberation struggle grants them the authority to oppose plans to extend Mnangagwa’s term, especially when the majority support it. He said:

It doesn’t give you power, if you do not follow what people want, your going to Zambia and being a war veteran will be useless. You won’t have standing because you are ganging against the people.
I don’t expect, as the secretary of war veterans, to hear any other war veteran say the opposite because the party’s constitution says our duty as the league is to protect the interests of the party and its leadership, which is the resolution that was made here in Bulawayo. That is the interest of the party, and we also protect the leadership.

A resolution from the ZANU PF National People’s Conference in Bulawayo last year called for amending the Constitution to extend Mnangagwa’s second and final term until 2030.

War veteran Douglas Mahiya warned other veterans who don't want President Mnangagwa to stay in power longer. He said they could be silenced forever. Mahiya is mad at Blessed Geza and others who criticize Mnangagwa for being corrupt and having too many friends in power. The police are looking for Geza because of criminal charges. Mahiya thinks the country is at war because of sanctions. He said if Mnangagwa wasn't a good leader, they could have declared a state of emergency to keep him in power. Mahiya warned war veterans not to go against the majority who want Mnangagwa to stay until 2030.

Mahiya: War Veterans Opposing "ED 2030" Will Be Silenced Forever

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a manhunt for war veteran Blessed Geza Runesu, also known as “Bombshell.”
In a statement released this Wednesday, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that Geza is wanted for questioning in connection with four separate criminal charges, which are detailed below:

War Veteran "Bombshell" Geza Wanted By ZRP On Multiple Criminal Charges

War veteran and ZANU PF Central Committee member Blessed Runesu Geza is facing a civil case over his alleged seizure of Harare Safari Lodge.
As reported by <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/geza-in-us15m-harare-safari-lodge-dispute/">The Herald</a>, the case stems from an alleged failure to pay US$1.5 million for the property, which he is accused of acquiring in 2020 from former owner Brett Allan McDonald.
Geza reportedly claims that the land is State property, and therefore unsellable, arguing that the sale agreement is invalid.
The terms of the deal required him to purchase McDonald’s entire shareholding in the lodge for US$1.5 million, with payment due within two weeks.
However, Geza is accused of not paying anything since the agreement was made, despite taking up residence at the lodge and using its assets.
McDonald has sought legal recourse to reclaim the property, with the case now escalated to the High Court.
Geza’s legal team maintains that the agreement is void, asserting that the property was acquired by the State in 2005, and that the sale of shares was unlawful.
The dispute continues, with a pre-trial conference held in May last year failing to resolve the issue.
The court has ruled that the case must proceed to trial to determine ownership of the property, the validity of the agreement, and whether McDonald lawfully cancelled the deal.
In the meantime, McDonald’s lawyer, Simbarashe Chigumira, has expressed concerns about threats made against him by Geza. Said Chigumira:

So, our client entered into an agreement of sale for shares in a company. In terms of that agreement, Mr Geza was supposed to pay the amount of US$1 500 000 within 14 days of signing the agreement.
The parties signed the agreement in December 2020, but Mr Geza did not manage to raise the purchase price for the shares.
Another term of the agreement was that upon purchasing the shares, Mr Geza would consequently take over the Harare Safari Lodge, which is currently housed at Lake Chivero.
But despite failing to raise the purchase price, Mr Geza took occupation of the lodge without our client’s consent.
Our client advises us that Mr Geza forcibly removed his staff from the property and that he’s even occupied the primary residence, which belongs to our client, and which was never part of the agreement.

Workers at Blessed Runesu Geza’s farm in Sanyati on Monday apprehended a 19-year-old man, suspected of spying after he was caught taking pictures of their boss’ farmhouse.
The young man, who identified himself as Nigel Murwira, was swiftly handed over to the police in Sanyati for further questioning.
At the time of the incident, Geza, a war veteran and ZANU PF central committee member was not present at the farm.
However, farm manager Isaiah Lozane told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200038157/man-caught-spying-at-gezas-farm">NewsDay</a> that their suspicions were aroused when they noticed a car with South African registration plates dropping off the young man near the property. Said Lozane:

He started shooting pictures of the main house, and that’s when we confronted him. The young man gave incoherent answers about his mission.
At first, he claimed he was looking for employment as a general labourer but after interrogation he said he had been sent by people he was not at liberty to name to take pictures of the farm structures and get US$200 as payment.

The suspected spy reportedly attempted to flee during interrogation and was injured while climbing the perimeter fence. Added Lozane:

He later claimed that he had been picked up at Patchway along Kadoma-Sanyati Road by unidentified men to Geza’s farm where his mission was to take pictures in return for $200.
He told me that along the way the men in the Honda Fit were being directed by someone on the phone because none of us knew where the farm was.

The men in the Honda Fit, realising that Murwira was under arrest, sped off in a hurry, disappearing into the distance.
Meanwhile, Geza, the former Sanyati legislator, finds himself at the centre of a political storm. He has been clashing with powerful figures within his own party who are pushing for an extension of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term until 2030.
Geza, a staunch war veteran, is leading a faction that opposes the term extension, while Mnangagwa’s loyalists have been rallying against him, calling for his expulsion from the party and even arrest.

Outspoken war veteran Blessed “Bombshell” Geza has issued a stern warning to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba, urging him not to shoot any Zimbabwean exercising their democratic right to demonstrate.
In an interview with HStv, Geza said that no one should be arrested for protesting and declared that war veterans would take action if the police resorted to such measures.
He stressed that the right to demonstrate is sacred, pointing out that countless Zimbabweans shed their blood and gave their lives to secure this fundamental freedom. Said Geza (via <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/dont-shoot-demonstrators-bombshell-geza-warns-police-chief/">The Mirror</a>):

Geza also spoke out against the many roadblocks on Zimbabwe’s roads, warning Commissioner General Mutamba not to turn the country into a police state.
Geza is part of a group of war veterans who have openly opposed ZANU PF’s plans to change the Constitution and delay the 2028 elections, which would allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa to stay in office until 2030.

Blessed Geza, a war veteran, warned the police chief not to arrest or shoot peaceful protesters in Zimbabwe. He said protesters have the right to demonstrate, and the war veterans will take action if police use force. Geza also criticized too many roadblocks in the country and warned against turning Zimbabwe into a police state. He is against changing the Constitution to delay elections and keep President Mnangagwa in power. Geza wants everyone to respect people's rights and not abuse their power.
