The United Family International Church (UFIC) has criticised self-styled prophet Urbert “Angel” Mudzanire for allegedly working in cahoots with another self-styled prophet Jay Israel to blackmail Emmanuel Makandiwa.
This comes after Israel alleged that Angel masterminded a plot to extort money from Makandiwa, who is the founder and leader of UFIC.
In a video recorded on November 19 this year, at around 2300 hours, Israel and businesswoman Blessing Mashangwa, a former UFIC member, were recorded planning on how to blackmail Makandiwa.
According to the leaked video, Mashangwa, who is now divorced from her husband Upenyu, was told to claim that she was Makandiwa’s second wife.
After the plot was exposed, Israel later claimed Mashangwa was working with Angel to smear Makandiwa, while Mashangwa claimed that she had been dating Israel a few months after her divorce.
UFIC spokesperson Pastor Prime Kufa said they always knew of Angel’s sinister agenda but were shocked that he would go as far as trying to cook the scandal. Said Kufa:
<blockquote>Although we knew Prophet Angel’s sinister agenda against our Father, we are shocked he would go this far into the gutter all because of brotherly jealousy.
It’s more painful considering what our Father did for him when he started his ministry here in Zimbabwe.
However, our gospel stands on the truth and, as usual, the truth sets us free.</blockquote>

'Prophet' Angel Criticised Over 'Evil' Plot Against Makandiwa

High Court judge Justice David Mangota has ruled that founder of the United Family International Church (Ufic) Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa must answer for making “false prophecies” to Harare couple Upenyu and Blessing Mashangwa. Justice Mangota dismissed Prophet Makandiwa’s application for an exception with costs and ruled that he had been properly sued. He also ruled that Makandiwa and his wife cannot hide from secular courts. The Mashangwas are demanding $6.5 million from the Makandiwa’s saying that they made significant losses because they believed in Makandiwa’s prophecy that their bank loan would be cancelled.
Said Justice Mangota:
<blockquote>It is evident, from the foregoing, that the plaintiffs and the defendants enjoyed very good social, and possibly spiritual, ties. That fact alone explains why the plaintiffs took the word of the defendants more seriously than any other member of the third defendant did.
The plaintiffs’ case in regard to the four claims is watertight. There is nothing which is vague and/or embarrassing in each of those claims. Their cause of action is clear, cogent and to the point. The claim falls neatly into the delict of fraud. They are neither frivolous nor vexatious.
…Applying the above-observed matters to the current case, therefore, the defendants (Prophet Makandiwa, his wife Ruth and UFIC) cannot be allowed to hide behind the proposition that their situation relates to ecclesiastical matters which the court has no jurisdiction to determine.</blockquote>

High Court Dismisses Makandiwa's Application, Says He Must Answer For "False Prophecies"

Blessing and Upenyu Mashangwa, the Harare couple suing United Family International Church (Ufic) founder, Emmanuel Makandiwa has also been sued by its own lawyer over failure to pay back $800 000. The Mushangwas are claiming that Makandiwa made a false prophecy saying that their debt would be cancelled which resulted in them losing their house after it was attached and sold for $500 000 instead of $700 000. The couple is demanding $200 000 from Makandiwa.
Lawyer Jemina Gumbo is demanding $800 000 from the Mushangwas saying she bought the same property in 2012. Gumbo says the Mushangwas cancelled the sale arguing that they did not receive payment from McDowells International Properties Investment.
The Mushangwas then allegedly agreed to refund Gumbo’s money if she helped them win the civil lawsuit against McDowell’s, which they did. Gumbo said the couple has since stopped communicating with her after they won the lawsuit.
In her court papers, Gumbo said:

Couple Suing Makandiwa Being Sued By Own Lawyer For $800 000

The Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa led United Family International Church (UFIC) has agreed to pay back $700 000 to Blessing and Upenyu Mashangwa. The couple used to be major contributors to the church and paid the $700 000 as tithing. However, after leaving the church in July 2016, the couple demanded all of its contributions back.
UFIC’s lawyers agreed to pay back the money and laid out certain conditions but argued that they had no legal obligation to do so. In a letter written to the Mashangwas the conditions for the refund are as follows:
<blockquote>(1) that you release into the public domain all confidential information pertaining to the man of God in your possession, as you threaten in your letter to him. This is also to ensure that you are fully satisfied that neither the man of God nor the church owes you anything nor you are doing either of them a favour and also to ensure that the wrong you feel has been done to you by the prophet has been fully repaid by such exposure as you threaten.
It is the prophet’s belief that you could hold threats for the next century and in the process deprive yourself of the satisfaction that should come from releasing such information into the public domain.
(2) The church requires tithe receipts that were issued to you in order for us to verify the amounts paid.
(3) That you will be required to sign the receipt of any such refund.</blockquote>
 
The couple, on the other hand, is arguing that <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/01/23/makandiwa-promises-refund-feel-cheated-giving-ufic-tithes-offerings/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Makandiwa himself promised that if anyone felt they did not benefit from their contributions they are entitled to a refund. </a>The Mashangwas argue that Makandiwa as “a man of God” should honour his word. In a letter written to UFIC by their attorneys, the couple say:
<blockquote>We do not agree that your client has no legal obligation. You will appreciate from our client’s letter the basis for the claim.
Your client specifically undertook to refund any person who claims all that he or she has given to the church. Your client being a person of integrity cannot surely deny what he publicly stated.
We appreciate that this undertaking might have been made without anticipation that someone as bold as our client would step up and claim all that she has given to the ministry which from the look of things is by no means insignificant.</blockquote>
