The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned former Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor from all cricket for three and a half years.
The ICC announced on Friday that Taylor had accepted breaching four charges of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code and, separately, one charge of the ICC AntiDoping Code.
The ICC said the 35-year-old admitted to being in breach of the following provisions of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code:

1. Article 2.4.2 – Failing to disclose (without unnecessary delay) the receipt of any gift, payment, hospitality or other benefit that (a) the participant knew or should have known was given to them to procure a breach of the Code or (b) that was made or given in circumstances that could bring the participant or the sport of cricket into disrepute.
2. Article 2.4.3 – Failing to disclose to the ACU (without unnecessary delay) receipt of gifts/hospitality with a value of US$750 or more regardless of the circumstances in which they were given.
3. Article 2.4.4 – Failing to disclose to the ACU (without unnecessary delay) full details of the approach received to engage in corrupt conduct under the Code including in relation to Zimbabwe’s then-upcoming series against Sri Lanka and/or Bangladesh.
4. Article 2.4.7 – obstructing or delaying an ACU investigation, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and/or that may be evidence of or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the ICC AntiCorruption Code.

The ICC said Taylor chose to admit the charges under the provisions of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code and agreed to a sanction with the ICC in lieu of an Anti-Corruption Tribunal hearing.
It added that Taylor will be free to resume his involvement in the game on 28 July 2025.
Taylor, who played for Zimbabwe in 34 tests, 205 one-dayers and 45 T20s, retired from international cricket in September.
Earlier this week, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/01/24/full-text-brendan-taylor-statement-on-match-fixing-icc-ban-cocaine/">Taylor confessed to taking US$15 000 from an Indian businessman</a> as a “deposit” for spot-fixing.
In a statement, Taylor said he was promised that an additional USD$20 000 would be paid once the “job” was complete.

Brendan Taylor Handed Lengthy Ban For Anti-corruption Breach

<blockquote>
To my friends, family, supporters and the wider public.
I’ve been carrying a burden for over 2 years now that has sadly taken me to some very dark places and had a profound effect on my mental health.
And I’ve only recently managed to start sharing my story with close friends and family and receive the love and support I guess I was too ashamed and frightened to seek in the first place.
This may not make for comfortable reading but I would like to make a statement regarding a finding made by the ICC, which is soon to be released.
In late October 2019, I was approached by an Indian businessman requesting that I attend India to discuss sponsorships and the potential launch of a T20 competition in Zimbabwe and was advised that I would be paid USD$15 000 to make the journey.
I can’t deny I was a little wary. But the timing was such that we hadn’t been paid for 6 months by Zimbabwe cricket and it was questionable whether Zimbabwe would be able to continue playing in the international arena.
So I made the journey. The discussions took place, as he had said, and on our last night in the hotel, the businessman and his colleagues took me for a celebratory dinner.
We had drinks and during the course of the evening they openly offered me cocaine, which they themselves engaged in, and I foolishly took the bait.
I’ve gone over it a million times since and still feel sick to my stomach reliving that night and how they played me.
The following morning, the same men stormed into my hotel room and showed me a video taken of me the night before doing cocaine and told me that if I did not spot fix at international matches for them, the video would be released to the public.
I was cornered. And with 6 of these individuals in my hotel room, I was scared for my own safety. I’d fallen for it. I’d willingly walked into a situation that has changed my life forever.
I was handed the USD$15 000 but was told this was now a ‘deposit’ for spot-fixing and that an additional USD$20 000 would be paid once the “job” was complete. I took the money so I could get on a plane and leave India.
I felt I had no choice at the time because saying no was clearly not an option. All I knew was I had to get out of there.
When I returned home, the stress of what had taken place severely impacted my mental and physical health. I was a mess. I was diagnosed with shingles and prescribed strong antipsychotic medication – amitriptyline.
The ‘businessman’ wanted a return on his investment which I could not and would not give. It took me 4 months to report this offence and interaction to the ICC.
I acknowledge this was too long of a time but I thought I could protect everyone and in particular, my family.
I approached the ICC on my own terms and I hoped that if I explained my predicament, my genuine fear for our safety and wellbeing, they would understand the delay.
Unfortunately, they did not, but I cannot feign ignorance in this regard. I have attended many anti-corruption seminars over the years and we know that time is of the essence when making reports.
I would like to place on record that I have never been involved in any form of match-fixing. I may be many things but I am not a cheat.
My love for the beautiful game of cricket far outweighs and surpasses any threats which could be thrown my way.
As a result of approaching the ICC, I attended multiple interviews and engagements and was as honest and transparent as I could be during their investigations.
Inside and outside I was beating myself up and I still wish I had sought support and advice earlier for a multitude of reasons.
That being said, the ICC is taking the decision to impose a multi-year ban on my international cricketing career.
I humbly accept this decision and only hope that my story will be used as a means of encouragement for cricketers to report any approaches early.
I will admit that the past two years have been incredibly challenging, both personally and professionally and it is from absolute rock bottom that I am trying to climb out of this mess!
My family and friends have been incredibly supportive of me and it is clear to me now that I have a much bigger problem that for some time has needed addressing.
And so I would also like to let you know that on Tuesday the 25th of January I am checking into a rehabilitation centre to get clean and to get my life back on track.
I have to tell my story now because I know people will want to hear from me. To try and understand what led to this point. But for many weeks I will be away and trying to get better.
I owe it to myself and to my family to get clean and to put them first. I have let a substance take control of me and impair my vision, my morals and my values and it is time that I prioritise what really matters.
I also hope my story inspires someone who hears it, to get the help that they need. I had not realized that coming forward and talking would give me so much relief from the hell I have found myself in for years.
Drugs and narcotics do not discriminate and it took all that I have to admit that I have a problem.
To end I need to let you know I am sorry for those I have hurt. I am sorry for those I have let down.
I would like to thank my family, my friends and my supporters for always being there. I have learnt the true meaning of loyalty.
The greatest honour that can be bestowed, is to captain and represent one’s country and for this, I am eternally grateful.
I am also grateful for what this experience has taught me. I am grateful for my four beautiful children, my loving and supportive wife, my health and the clarity I now have to want to be a better version of myself.

FULL TEXT: Brendan Taylor Statement On Match-fixing, ICC Ban & Cocaine

Brendan Taylor announced that he will retire from international cricket after 17 years.
In statements released via his <a href="https://twitter.com/BrendanTaylor86/status/1437132403760320521" rel="noopener" target="_blank">social media platforms</a> on Sunday 12 September 2021, Taylor said he will be retiring after Zimbabwe’s final ODI vs Ireland on Monday 13 September 2021. 
Taylor needs 110 to finish as Zimbabwe’s highest run-scorer in ODIs. If he scores 69, he will reach 10,000 international runs across formats.
Brendan Taylor did not reveal the reason for his retirement nor his next step. Pindula News publishes Taylor’s full statement announcing his retirement:

Brendan Taylor Retires From International Cricket

Former Zimbabwe cricket captain Brendan Taylor and former convener of selectors Tatenda Taibu have accused current Convener of selectors Walter Chawaguta of lying. Chawaguta claimed that<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/06/26/we-hope-taylor-cremer-williams-will-avail-themselves-for-t20i-tri-series-zimbabwe-cricket/" rel="noopener" target="_blank"> Brendan Taylor, Sikandar Raza, Graeme Cremer, Sean Williams and Craig Ervine were omitted from the squad to face Australia and Pakistan in the Twenty20 international (T20I) triangular series because they made themselves unavailable</a>. However Taiby refuted this saying,

Tatenda Taibu, Brendan Taylor Accuse Chawaguta Of Lying About Team Selection

Former Zimbabwe cricket captain and former convener of selectors Tatenda Taibu has said that Brendan Taylor is being targeted by the Zimbabwe Cricket board for. forming a players’ union. Taylor is one five senior players who were left out of the 22-man training squad to play a T20I triangular series against Australia and Pakistan in July. Taylor, Graeme Cremer, Craig Ervine and Sean Williams remain available to play for Zimbabwe if their demands for a payment plan for outstanding salaries and match fees are met. Speaking to ESPN, Taibu said,

I felt it was very unfair for Brendan Taylor to be targeted for doing what was right and forming a players’ union. It’s the right thing to do, to have the players’ union, but I know that if there is a players’ union, the board cannot do what they are doing now… At the moment, the chairman (Tawengwa Mukuhlani) is in Harare holding meetings with players individually. A lot of the players are young and will be scared to stand up to the chairman. If there is a players’ union in place, the board will have to speak to the players’ union and there will not be able to divide and rule like they are doing. Brendan had to pay the price there, which is not right, which is what I am standing against. It takes a lot of courage for Brendan to stand up for what’s right. He has my utmost respect.

Brendan Taylor Is Being Unfairly Targeted For Forming Players' Union: Tatenda Taibu

West Indies secured a four wicket victory over Zimbabwe in an International Cricket Council World Cup qualifying match played in Harare.
Marlon Samuels scored 86 as his side reached their target of 290 with an over left despite a late collapse. Brendan Taylor had earlier scored 138 for Zimbabwe but Jason Holder took 4-35 to bowl the hosts out. West Indies are now a point clear of Zimbabwe and Scotland at the top of the Super Sixes table with one game left.
They face third-placed Scotland on Wednesday and a win for them or Scotland will secure one of the two qualification places. Ireland are in fourth place, a point behind Zimbabwe and Scotland, but even a win against Afghanistan on Friday may not be enough to qualify. Zimbabwe will qualify if they beat United Arab Emirates on Thursday.

West Indies Beat Zimbabwe In Cricket World Cup Qualifier

Zimbabwe wicket keeper and batsman Brendan Taylor and Afghanistan’s 16-year-old spinner Mujeeb Rahman were fined for separate incidents that occurred during a nail biting ICC Cricket World cup Qualifier between the two countrys at Queens Sports Club on Tuesday.
Taylor was found to have breached Article 2.1.5, which deals with “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”, while Mujeeb was found guilty of breaching Article 2.2.8, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match”. Taylor was fined 15 per cent of his match fee and received one demerit point after pleading guilty to the charge, while Mujeeb was fined 50 per cent of his match fee and got three demerit points following a hearing that took place yesterday after he had denied the offence and opted to contest the charge at a full hearing.
During the closing stages of the ICC Cricket World Cup match, Taylor showed dissent after umpire Chettithody Shamsuddin had turned down a leg before appeal against Dawlat Zadran off the bowling of Blessing Muzarabani.

Brendan Taylor Punished By ICC

Cricketer Brendan Taylor has clarified the reason for returning to Zimbabwe.
Reports stated that Taylor is set to return home with immediate effect after asking and being granted permission to be released from his contract which was due to expire at the end of the 2017 season, for family reasons. He however said that he is returning to play in Zimbabwe and hopes to end his career with The Chevrons.

Brendan Taylor clarifies reason for returning to Zimbabwe

Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club batsman Brendan Taylor is set to return home with immediate effect after asking and being granted permission to be released from his contract which was due to expire at the end of the 2017 season, for family reasons.
Said Taylor:
<blockquote>I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at Trent Bridge where I have made some fantastic friends among the dressing room and Club staff during the three seasons I have been here. Winning two trophies for Notts in these past few months, including one at Lord’s, has been a real highlight in my career, and given me moments that I will never forget. But being away from my wife and children has proven to be very difficult for me and I have reached a point in my life where I must consider their needs.</blockquote>
Taylor  became the first batsman in Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club’s history to register centuries in both of his first two matches, against Loughborough University and Middlesex.

Brendan Taylor to play in inaugural  South Africa T20 Global League

Former Zimbabwe cricket player Mark Vermeulen launched a vitriolic and racist attack on blacks. Vermeulen blamed the black race for destroying the “best country in Africa.”  He also warmed politicians that Trump is going to remove them from their positions.
Vermeulen attacked activist Henery Munangatire saying:
<blockquote>What have you done for Zimbabwe Henery Munangatire…oh absolutely f*** all as I thought…your race has f****d up the best country in Africa but don’t worry the Trump card is going to be played soon and all you greedy useless corrupt imbeciles will be knocked off your perch…..then Zimbabwe will become great again. Til then it’ll remain the biggest joke of c***ry in the world .</blockquote>
This came after activist Henry Munangatire had questioned the value that Vermeulen was adding when he launched a scathing attack on the Zimbabwe cricket team for losing to Afghanistan.
Munangatire had said:
<blockquote>Yes he is entitled to his own opinion and so am I. No one is debating that, but what value has he added. We have to do more as a nation than constantly complain.</blockquote>
He had a heated exchange with former captain Brendan Taylor who seemed to lose his cool saying:
<blockquote>Here we go! Coming from someone who is chemically imbalanced. I’m sure the guys are first to admit this was a poor performance. I never support mediocrity, Rex.
