Two police officers based in Norton were arrested by their colleagues with the assistance of workers at Sunny Yifeng as they attempted to evade capture shortly after accepting a US$5,000 bribe from the company.
Sunny Yifeng is a Chinese-owned tile manufacturer situated along the Harare-Bulawayo highway, just outside Norton.
As reported by <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/drama-as-cops-caught-with-bribe-money-at-chinese-tile-manufacturer/">ZimLive</a>, the officers, Patrick Kwashira and Tangai Matomati, both residents of Norton, appeared before Harare magistrate Isheanesu Matova on Thursday, facing charges of extortion. They were subsequently remanded out of custody on US$200 bail each.
According to prosecutors, Matomati was the investigating officer in an assault case involving one Tapfuma Nyahonda, who had filed a complaint against Hou Zesong, Methew Mapfumo, Patience Zinyimo, and Brit Mutatsi.
The court heard that Nyahonda later withdrew the assault charges against the four individuals.
It is alleged that Matomati got information that Nyahonda withdrew his case of assault without their knowledge. Prosecutors said:

Accused persons then notified their officer-in-charge about the incident alleging that Tapfuma Nyahonde supplied false information that he was assaulted by Hou Zesong, Methew Mapfumo, Patience Zinyimo and Brit Mutatsi.
Officer-in-Charge instructed accused persons to open a docket and investigate the matter against Tapfuma Nyahonda.
Accused persons then took advantage of the docket and communicated using cell phone numbers 0775630250 and 0779338288 with Sunny Yifeng Tiles Zimbabwe Company demanding US$5,000 alleging that its employees Terrify Taruvinga and Wang- Xioa-Jin had forced Tapfuma Nyahonda to withdraw an assault case which accused persons were handling.

A trap was set by the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Internal Investigations unit to catch the two accused officers.
They were invited to the premises of Sunny Yifeng Tiles Zimbabwe Company to collect the bribe money they had demanded.
It is alleged that Taruvinga handed over the bribe to Kwashira in the presence of Matomati in one of the company’s offices, where the pair had been escorted.
As they were leaving the office, ZRP Internal Investigations officers intercepted them, catching Kwashira red-handed with the bribe money.
In the chaos, Matomati managed to flee, while Kwashira dropped the bribe money, a CZ pistol magazine loaded with nine rounds, and his personal belongings before attempting to escape.
He was ultimately apprehended with the assistance of employees from Sunny Yifeng Tiles Zimbabwe Company.

Two Police Officers Caught With US$5 000 Bribe Money At Chinese-owned Company

Police have urged the public to avoid confrontations with officers and making false allegations to garner public sympathy.
This follows a viral video showing police officers allegedly harassing a motorist who reportedly refused to pay a bribe in Masvingo.
However, in a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) clarified that the motorist was arrested after evading a police roadblock along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road and later became confrontational when officers pursued and apprehended him. Said ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi:

In [a] video circulating on social media in which two police officers are wrestling with a motorist in Masvingo, the Zimbabwe Republic Police puts on record that the suspect, who was driving a Nissan Vannette Registration number AEL 6423, evaded a police roadblock at the 1 kilometre peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road near Craft Center where he was stopped for traffic offences.
A member of the public assisted the police with his private motor vehicle to pursue the suspect to Flo Garages, Masvingo where the suspect became confrontational and violent towards the police while recording a video.
The Police subsequently arrested the suspect for the due processes of the law to be followed.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores the public to desist from being confrontational with the police in order to raise false allegations as a way to attract public sympathy.

ZRP Warns Against False Allegations Following Bribery Harassment Video

Bhekimpilo Moyo, a 35-year-old public prosecutor, appeared before the Bulawayo Tredgold Magistrates’ Court on allegations of bribery.
The court heard that on July 10, 2024, the accused was on duty at the Bulawayo Tredgold Magistrates’ Court, where he was prosecuting a “Malicious Damage to Property” case involving the complainant’s brother.
It is alleged that Moyo approached the complainant and her brother, took them to his office, and demanded a US$200 bribe to facilitate a non-custodial sentence for the complainant’s brother.
He allegedly threatened that failure to pay the bribe would result in the brother receiving a prison sentence of 10 to 25 years.
The state further alleges that the accused received US$50 that day, and the remaining US$150 was paid the following day.
Moyo is said to have also demanded a further US$250, but the complainant indicated that she did not have the money. The complainant reportedly recorded the conversation using her phone.
The case was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused prosecutor. He was scheduled to appear in court on July 17 for a bail ruling on the bribery charges.

A man who works as a public prosecutor, which means he helps in legal cases, was arrested for asking for a bribe of US$450. He was handling a case in court and allegedly told the family of the person in trouble that they had to pay him money or else he would face a long prison sentence. The family paid him some of the money, but the rest was not paid because they didn't have it. They reported him to the police, and now he is in trouble for trying to take money illegally.

Public Prosecutor Arrested For Soliciting A US$450 Bribe

A 28-year-old female nurse stationed at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare was recently arraigned on bribery allegations before the Harare Magistrates’ Court.
The court remanded Memory Mukura out of custody to the 16th of May 2024.
Prosecutors allege that Mukura approached two General Nurses trainees at the Gwanda Multi-Disciplinary School (GMDS) and offered to help them pass their examinations.
The two complainants sat for their final exams on the 7th and 8th of March 2024.
While the trainees were waiting for their results, Mukura informed them that they had failed, but her uncle at the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe (NCZ) was going to “ensure that they score favourable marks” for a fee of US$500 each.
The complainants promptly alerted the authorities at GMDS and they reported the matter to the Nurses’ Council of Zimbabwe (NCZ).
A report was made to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) by the NCZ and they set a trap for Mukura.
She was arrested on the 7th of May 2024, after allegedly receiving US$500 from the complainants.

Parirenyatwa Hospital Nurse Arrested For Demanding Bribes

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) says it has arrested Murehwa magistrate Terence Mashaire on allegations of receiving bribes from litigants in matters he was presiding over.
ZACC has also arrested Shane Kubonera, a former magistrate, and an impostor Allan Nhamo Bhasvi, on allegations of fraud and impersonation.
Bhasvi was allegedly purporting to be Principal Protocol Officer to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and conniving with Kubonera to defraud a victim of USD$10 000.
Bhasvi and Kubonera allegedly promised to facilitate farm allocation, farming equipment and access to President Mnangagwa their victim.
ZACC has also confirmed the arrest of Takudzwa Marlon Muza, a Judicial Service Commission ICT Technician on allegations of receiving a bribe of US$350 to facilitate a favourable judgment for a litigant in a matter before the High Court.

Murehwa Magistrate, Terence Mashaire, Arrested On Corruption Allegations

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) is investigating executives from the Industrial Development Corporation of Zimbabwe (IDC) who reportedly attempted to “bribe” President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga using fertilisers.
The probe was launched after some disgruntled IDC employees presented a dossier to ZACC of alleged corrupt activities by IDC general manager Winstone Makamure and chairperson Tome that included the flouting of tender procedures.
Makamure and Tome allegedly bought fertilisers without following the due tender process and tried to donate them to Mnangagwa and Chiwenga.
The two IDC executives were allegedly trying to influence the two leaders to give them an audience so that they could defend themselves against corruption allegations levelled against them.
However, Mnangagwa and Chiwenga are said to have refused to entertain Makamure and Tome. Part of the dossier submitted to ZACC reads:

Tome is pushing to be appointed substantive general manager so that he can cover up his shenanigans.
He favours management instead of general staff in terms of salaries and benefits.
Resultantly, the chairman and the general manager are in connivance to ensure that their misdeeds are covered up.
They bought 30 tonnes of fertilisers from (a company named) and donated to HE (Mnangagwa) and VP (Chiwenga) to buy their audience, but both refused to entertain them and just told them to leave the fertilisers in Kwekwe.
They haven’t met them up to now. The company is struggling to pay for the fertiliser up to now.

Anyway Mutambudzi the chief director for presidential communications, on Saturday told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200007064/ed-chiwenga-bribe-backfires">The Standard</a> he could not comment on a matter that was under investigation. He said:

We would not want to interfere with the investigations. ZACC can respond to that.
</blockquote>
ZACC spokesperson Thandiwe Mlobane confirmed the developments and said the matter was being investigated under case number HCR26/01/23.
ZACC investigators reportedly entered IDC offices on 24 January and served the institution with a warrant of search and seizure.
Makamure and Tome are also accused of abusing power and nepotism.
Contacted for comment by The Standard, Tome said he was in a meeting. He had not responded by the time of going to print.
Makamure also did not respond to questions sent to him by the publication.

Attempt To "Bribe" Mnangagwa, Chiwenga Fails

Police officers have been warned against taking bribes from motorists at roadblocks as this results in road traffic accidents as unroadworthy vehicles are allowed on the roads.
Assistant commissioner Levi Sibanda warned that those found wanting will face the full wrath of the law. He said:

When we introspect we look at the statistics where our citizens lost their lives through accidents. It is indeed disturbing.
I am encouraging enforcement agencies not to accept bribes from motorists. And also to encourage our transporters not to bribe or not be part and parcel of this very bad and unnecessary arrangement within our society.
We expect your fleets to be roadworthy. You must not buy your presence on our roads through bribes.

He was speaking at the World Day or Road Traffic Victims commemorations held in Bulawayo this week.
23 people were reportedly arrested in July this year within a period of four hours for bribery at a roadblock along the Harare-Bulawayo highway.
According to official data, more than 1 500 people lost their lives through road accidents between January and September this year while 7 851 were injured countrywide.
Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister, Felix Mhona, called for cooperation among stakeholders to curb road traffic accidents. He said:

We, therefore, call for partnerships and collaborations with religious communities, organised labour, business, government institutions and civil society to mitigate the occurrences and ugly impacts of his scourge.
The carnage on our roads must stop. We can’t go on pretending day by day that someone, someday will come and make a change.
Road safety is our absolute responsibility. Surely, it can only be through us that we put an end to this.
This is a war we can win as roughly 94% of road traffic accidents are directly attributed to human error.
A change in human behaviour could therefore easily result in a lowering of the worrisome statistic.
All of us want to end this carnage. All of us must end this carnage. It is now or never.

Police Officers Warned Against Taking Bribes

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police">Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)</a> has confirmed the arrest of one Takudzwa Nenzou over the theft of a Mercedes Benz which occurred on Friday 10 September 2022. In a statement seen by Pindula News, police said the vehicle has since been recovered. Reads the statement:

The ZRP confirms the arrest of Takudzwa Nenzou (31) in connection with a case of theft involving a Mercedes Benz vehicle registration number AEQ 7545 which occurred at Old Hararians Sports Club on 10/09/22 at about 2200 hours. Police recovered the stolen vehicle at the suspect’s house in Mabelreign, Harare.

Meanwhile, the ZRP urges the public to stop offering bribes to Police Officers discharging their constitutional mandate amid a rise in reported cases of attempted bribery.
ZRP reported that on Friday last week, police in Bubi arrested Elvis Mubaiwa (37) for bribery after he offered ZAR200 to a Police Officer at a roadblock.
 In a similar case, Sabastain Chikwavarara (49) was arrested for bribery on Sunday after he offered ZAR50 to a Police Officer indicating that he had five passengers in his Toyota Wish vehicle without passports at Bubi Roadblock.
On the same day, police arrested Energy Murungami (39) for bribery after he offered R170 bribe money to Police Officers at a roadblock after being asked to produce a driver’s licence.

Police Recover Stolen Mercedes Benz At The Suspect’s House In Mabelreign

Prominent social media journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono has been criticised by some journalists for suggesting they were bribed to not report the Wadyajena bail hearing on Thursday.
Wadyajena’s bail hearing on a US $5 million corruption charge was not reported live by most publications as well as journalist feeds on social media.  The lack of live reporting on the hearing led to Chin’ono tweeting:

Where is your reporting of today’s court proceedings in the Justice Mayor Wadyajena’s US $5 million case?
We know that money was offered yesterday for a media blackout.
Are you not embarrassed?

Chin’ono later deleted the tweet, for undisclosed reasons. Prominent opposition politician David Coltart also asked about the apparent silence?

Hopewell Chin'ono Criticised For Suggesting Journalists Were Paid To Not Report Wadyajena Bail hearing

Suspended Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Felton Kamambo, who is facing multiple bribery charges, admits to paying ZIFA councillors, not bribing them.
Kamambo filed an application for discharge after the close of the State case, with the presiding magistrate, Bianca Makwande, expected to make a ruling this Wednesday.
The State, led by Michael Reza, closed its case on Kamambo’s last appearance, after summoning 12 witnesses to give evidence against the suspended ZIFA boss.
In his application for discharge, Kamambo told the court that the prosecution failed to prove its case on the essential elements of bribery. He said:

All the State witnesses denied ever being induced in any way by the accused.
All the State witnesses denied ever receiving consideration from the accused for them to vote in a particular way in the election.
All the State witnesses denied ever receiving a gift from the accused.
As such, there is no evidence to prove the essential element of inducement with consideration of cash from the accused.
… They said it was reimbursement of expenses incurred in transport and food for purposes of attending the campaign rallies he held.
It is also crucial to note that the accused had no way of knowing how the people had voted. It was a secret vote.

Kamambo further argued that reimbursing money used during the campaign period does not constitute criminal conduct. He said:

The ZIFA statutes do not outlaw such payments. The FIFA statutes referred to by the State do not criminalise such conduct.
As such, there are no known statutes that regulate the conduct of candidates during the campaign period.

In response to Kamambo’s application for discharge, Reza argued that the State had managed to prove a prima facie case.
He told the court that there was evidence on record that shows both Kamambo and his campaign manager, Robert Matoka, paid various amounts using Ecocash, to ZIFA agents, who were going to vote for the ZIFA president.

Kamambo Admits To 'Reimbursing' ZIFA Councillors

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on Tuesday arrested a Bulawayo based Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), for demanding a US$9 000 bribe from a Chinese investor, reports Zim Morning Post.
The intelligence officer was identified as Patrick Badza. He demanded the money from a Chinese businessman who wanted to have work permits processed for his employees at Diamond Cement.
Acting on a tip-off, ZACC investigators reportedly set a trap leading to Badza’s arrest at Sam Levy Village. The publication quoted a source as saying:
<blockquote>The CIO operative was in the habit of swindling money from the same guy until he got fed up and reported the matter to Zacc leading to his arrest after he received US$3 500 which was marked.</blockquote>
Badza is expected to appear in court Wednesday.

CIO Operative Receives US$3 500 Bribe From Chinese Investor

Former Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) board chairperson Stanley Kazhanje has been acquitted on bribery charges.
Kazhanje was being accused of receiving a US$10 000 bribe from businessman Wicknell Chivhayo. He was acquitted of the charges before plea.
Kazhanje who appeared before Magistrate Ngoni Nduna together with Chivhayo was represented by Garikayi Mhishi instructing advocate Taona Nyamakura.
He had already served jail time at the Chikurubi Maximum Prison after he concealed a transaction between him and Chivhayo to his principals.
But upon release from prison, he was again jointly charged with Chivhayo for bribery.
Kazhanje then filed an application for exception saying he cannot be charged again on the same facts which he served time at Chikurubi Maximum Prison.
In his ruling magistrate Nduna said the constitution is there to protect suspects from double jeopardy.
Nduna said Kazhanje was tried by a competent court on the same allegations and he was convicted and it will not be in the interest of justice to retry the suspect on the same facts.
The magistrate said upon these facts Kazhanje is found not guilty and has been acquitted.
Meanwhile, Nduna remanded his co-accused Chivhayo to 13 May for trial.

Former ZESA Chairman Acquitted Of Bribery

Former Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) boss Henrietta Rushwaya was on Wednesday granted bail of $100 000 by Harare magistrate Ngoni Nduna.
Rushwaya faces charges of gold smuggling, illegal possession of gold and bribery.
She was arrested on 26 October last year at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport when four bars of gold weighing 6kg were found in her handbag shortly before she boarded a flight to Dubai.
Rushwaya is jointly charged with businessman Ali Muhammad and two CIO officers accused of helping her through the VIP route at the airport.
Though the State continued to oppose bail, magistrate Nduna agreed with defence lawyers that circumstances had changed and granted her new application.
Nduna ordered Rushwaya to deposit $100 000 bail, barred her from travelling nearer than 20km to any border and ordered her to report three times a week at a police station until January 31.
The reporting times thereafter will be every Wednesday.

Henrietta Rushwaya Granted $100 000 Bail

A Harare man, Bigboy Mujenda, and four serving members of the police force all from different Harare police stations were on Thursday arrested in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mazowe">Mazowe</a> at a security checkpoint after they harassed police officers.
Mujenda was arrested for impersonation and extortion while the police officers – Sergeant William of Mabvuku, Constable Mupingo, from Ruwa, Constables Ruvuke and Mzilikazi from Mabelreign – were charged with forgery, assault and bribery among other charges.
In a police memorandum dated 16 September 2020, the four police officers, together with the fake detective Bigboy Mujenda connived to commit crimes of extortion while pretending to be members of the police internal investigations department.
The group arrived at a roadblock in Mvurwi where they misrepresented themselves as internal investigations officers while traveling in an unregistered white Chevrolet with no number plates.
The group allegedly assaulted the driver of a kombi carrying passengers that had passed by, accusing him of failing to stop at a roadblock. They extorted US$60 from him.
Later that day, the police officers and the fake detective arrived at a roadblock in Mazowe.
While they were busy harassing the police officers on duty, the kombi whose occupants were extorted of US$60 arrived and positively identified them as the team that had previously extorted them.
The Mazowe police officers arrested the team and took them to Mazowe police station where they were charged with forgery, assault, and bribery among other charges, and detained.

A Mutoko-based magistrate, Jairus Mutseyekwa, was recently sacked by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for misconduct.
Mutseyekwa allegedly changed a judgement in favour of an accused person who had greased his hands.
The development was confirmed by JSC deputy secretary for legal affairs Faith Mushure in a letter dated September 8, addressed to the complainant, Mathias Madziwanzira’s lawyer Gama and Partners.
In the letter, Mushure revealed that the JSC had conducted its own investigations and found out that Mutseyekwa had doctored his ruling after reading out the original version in court.
On July 2, Madzivanzira’s lawyers had written a letter of complaint to the JSC, arguing that Mutseyekwa produced a handwritten judgment which he later edited in favour of Matuso. The lawyers wrote:
<blockquote>The honourable magistrate issued a handwritten judgment. To our utter dismay, the honourable materially altered the judgment after reading it in court and delivering it to the parties.
The appeal was noted on March 27, 2020, the same day on which the original judgment was handed down.
We secured a copy of the handwritten judgment from the clerk of the court on the same day.
Upon receiving our client’s appeal, the honourable magistrate doctored his judgment to deflect the course of justice.</blockquote>

Magistrate Sacked For Tampering With Ruling

Four members of Parliament, Temba Mliswa (Independent), <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Prince_Dubeko_Sibanda" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Prince Dubeko Sibanda</a> (MDC), Anele Ndebele (MDC), and Leonard Chikomba (Zanu PF), have been cleared of bribery allegations.
The four were accused of soliciting for a US$400 000 bribe from a Bulawayo businessman, James Goddard after they allegedly promised him lucrative contracts with <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hwange_Colliery_Company_Limited" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Hwange Colliery Company Limited (HCCL)</a>.
However, in his report tabled before the National Assembly, Parliament’s privileges committee chairperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Fortune_Charumbira" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Fortune Charumbira</a> absolved the MPs, who were members of the mines portfolio committee, of corruption charges. Part of the report read:
<blockquote>The privileges committee is of the view that the conduct of the four MPs does not constitute a breach of privileges.
However, the committee is of the view that measures should be undertaken to ensure MPs are not involved in activities, which are inconsistent with parliamentary decorum.</blockquote>
The Privileges Committee also reported that controversial Kwekwe businessman Shepherd Tundiya was the architect of the entire bribery allegations, and he arranged the meetings between Goddard and management at HCCL, and also held meetings with the MPs, excluding Mliswa.
Tundiya also misrepresented himself as an official in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) who was sent by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to sort out the mess at HCCL.

Four MPs Cleared Of Bribery Allegations

Wicknell Chivayo’s trial on bribery charges failed to start yesterday after his lawyer, Advocate Lewis Uriri, failed to attend court as he was committed at the High Court.
Chivayo allegedly transferred $10 000 into former Zimbabwe Power Company chairperson Stanley Kazhanje’s bank account, to influence him not to cancel a 100MW solar project tender awarded to his company, Intratrek Zimbabwe. Chivayo appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Lucy Mungwari who deferred the matter to April 15 for trial commencement.
Advocate Sylvester Hashiti who stood in for Advocate Lewis Uriri told the court that his fellow colleague was committed with another matter at the High Court and so could not attend court.

Chivayo Bribery Trial Fails To Start

Thokozani Khupe has accused members of the Nelson Chamisa led MDC of bribing senior officials to facilitate a meeting with President Mnangagwa.
She said this during an interview with The Herald’s Tendai Mugabe (TM). Khupe was responding to a question on her views on the criticism that she has sold out to Zanu-PF. She said her party has nothing to sell like any other opposition party in Zimbabwe. Below is an excerpt of the interview between Khupe (TK) and Mugabe:
<blockquote>TM: What is your take on the criticism from some of your colleagues in the opposition, especially MDC-Alliance who accuse of selling out to zanu-pf?
TK: If I had something to sell I would worry about those criticisms, unlike 2008 where my party had a leverage in terms of numbers in Parliament there was a basis of alleging or entering in the discourse of selling out.
Fortunately, for 2018, no one in the opposition has enough parliamentarians to give them any leverage, so factually there is nothing to sell.
However, my response is in the Shona adage, “Muzivi wenzira yeparuware ndiye mufambi wayo”.
I know that one thing this country has to deal with is corruption. Some of us know how many have been used to influence certain political positions that have been taken. We also know how people have attempted to bribe people in high positions to facilitate meetings with President ED Mnangagwa, it’s ironic how whilst the same people accuse some us of selling out. They are clearly clandestinely begging for a meeting.</blockquote>

Chamisa Party Members Paying Bribes To Facilitate Mnangagwa Meeting- Khupe

Businessman Wicknell Chivayo appeared in court for allegedly bribing Zimbabwe Power Company’s (ZPC) ex-board chairperson with $10 000 to award him the Gwanda Solar Project deal.
Chivayo appeared before Harare magistrate Rumbidzayi Mugwgwa yesterday represented by advocates Lewis Uriri and Sylvester Hashiti.
Mugwagwa ruled that Chivayo would continue abiding by bail conditions imposed in a fraud case involving the power deal where he paid $2 000 coupled with stringent conditions. Sometime in 2013, ZPC called for bids for construction of the Gwanda Solar Project and Chivayo responded through his company Intratek (Pvt) Ltd (Intratrek). The court heard that on October 22, 2015 Chizhanje convened a board meeting and directed that ZPC proceed to sign the deal with Intratrek.
It was alleged that the contract was signed between ZPC and Intratrek with Chivayo’s company failing to provide a bank guarantee. On January 21, 2016 Chivayo and his company reportedly transferred $10 000 to Kazhanje’s personal bank account. He allegedly misrepresented that he had capacity to implement the project. Chivayo reportedly won the tender at $172 848 597.

Wicknell Chivayo In Court For Bribing ZPC Ex-Board Chairperson

In a statement, Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) Commissioner General, Ms Faith Mazani, yesterday confirmed that the commissioner responsible for investigations, Charles Jaure had been suspended with immediate effect to pave way for investigations.
The suspension follows indications that the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) was investigating Jaure for demanding a bribe from a whistleblower who had exposed improper financial dealings at NetOne. Mazani said Zimra is doing its own investigations into the matter. Said Mazani:
<blockquote>Zimra is doing its own investigations on the matter. The official in question has been asked to proceed on leave of absence to allow investigations to be carried out. Zimra will give Zacc any support they require as they carry out investigations into the matter.</blockquote>
Meanwhile in an interview with The Herald yesterday, Zacc Investigations Committee head, Commissioner Goodson Nguni said investigations were still continuing. Jaure allegedly asked a bribe from a whistleblower to expedite his payments after he reported NetOne for tax evasion of non-resident tax, withholding tax, value added tax, income tax, special exercise due on airtime and pay as your earn in 2015. Zimra allegedly recovering about $18 million and Jaure, allegedly asked for a bribe from the whistleblower to facilitate payment of the $1,8 million.
