A 40-year-old Zimbabwean woman has been sentenced by the Thembalethu Regional Court for running a brothel in George, Western Cape, South Africa, reported <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/the-star/news/zimbabwean-woman-gets-suspended-sentenced-for-running-a-brothel-2ca22a87-0e60-4f7f-817a-478e8fd8bc9a">IOL</a>.
Nyaradzo Ellen Gewdzi was convicted for violating the Sexual Offences Act. She was also investigated for human trafficking, but the case was dropped due to insufficient evidence.
Gewdzi was arrested on May 25 after an operation led by the Hawks George Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, with help from the George Visible Police crime prevention unit. The operation focused on a known brothel.
The investigation began when a South African Police Services (SAPS) vehicle was seen at the brothel, responding to a reported assault.
Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Zinzi Hani said the team inquired at the police station about the SAPS visit.
During the arrest, the team spoke to a 25-year-old Zimbabwean woman who had been assaulted for not following the brothel’s rules. She was found to be a victim of human trafficking. Said Hani:

She was taken to George Hospital for medical care and referred to an accredited shelter, after which the Hawks team went back to the station where the suspect was still present and was immediately arrested.

The accused appeared in court on several occasions and was refused bail. She has been in custody since her arrest.
Gewdzi was initially charged with five counts, but the state later withdrew three charges. These included count 1 for trafficking in persons under the Combating of Trafficking in Persons Act 7 of 2013, Section 4 (1), count 3 related to the Sexual Offences Act 23 of 1957, and count 4 for debt bondage under the same act.
The court convicted her of living off the earnings of prostitution and running a brothel. Said Hani:

Both counts were taken together for the purpose of sentencing. She was sentenced to two years imprisonment wholly suspended for three years. She was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Religious figures have condemned mourners who engaged in sexual intercourse on top of a fresh grave in Mutare last week on Thursday.
A well-known commercial sex worker only identified as Tatenda or Mai Keisha, and an unidentified middle-aged man made love on the grave of the late 45-year-old Sakubva brothel operator Maroni Mazvita Karinda in broad daylight and in full view of other mourners who cheered them on while filming the incident.
Pastor Davies English, a Christian leader, said the incident shows that the human race is now in the last days. Said Pastor English:

So this should be a clarion call for everyone to repent and give their lives to Jesus Christ and get ready for eternal life.

This is a sheer lack of discipline, typical of touts, sex workers and hooligans.
At the same time, these could be rituals that are common at graves or during funerals.
At times, some people do things that they would have been instructed by the deceased to do upon their death.
It might also be a result of the global interconnectedness whereby we have adopted foreign and weird cultures.

a brother to the deceased, Fungai Mazvita Karinda told The Manica Post that the family was not happy with what the mourners did at Maroni’s burial. He said:

We are not happy at all with what happened during the funeral of our departed brother. These people started their uncouth behaviour while we were still at home.
As a family, we tried by all means to stop them, but they turned a deaf ear to us.
We told them that while they were his friends, they should respect us, but they never relented.
We hope and pray that these people will be arrested because they literally hijacked my brother’s funeral to parade their shamelessness.
Up to now, we are yet to come to terms with what we saw during our brother’s funeral.

Two mourners stripped naked and engaged in sexual intercourse on top of a grave in broad daylight and in full view of other mourners at Dangamvura Cemetery on Thursday last week.
The incident happened just after the burial of the late 45-year-old Sakubva brothel operator, Maroni Mazvita Karinda.
The shocking incident was reportedly initiated by a well-known commercial sex worker only identified as Tatenda or Mai Keisha after she undressed while asking if anyone was willing to be intimate with her.
A middle-aged man who is understood to be a loafer who frequents the area near Sakubva Roundabout accepted Mai Keisha’s invitation.
The incident has since gone viral on various social media platforms after other mourners filmed the act.
Meanwhile, a brother to the deceased, Fungai Mazvita Karinda told The Manica Post that the family was not happy with what the mourners did at Maroni’s burial. He said:

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Manicaland Province Inspector Nobert Muzondo said the culprits will be brought to book. He said:

We thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We will pursue it until the culprits are brought to book.
Those who engaged in the act, those who filmed it and the ones who paid the two people to engage in it have cases to answer. This is a serious matter that deserves our attention.
We surely cannot tolerate such wayward behaviour. People cannot be intimate in public, let alone on a grave during a funeral with onlookers cheering as if they are watching a soccer match. It is unacceptable.

Mourners Engage In Sex On Top Of Brothel Owner's Grave

Zvishavane Town Council is running a brothel with council officials saying it is a way of raising funds as 80% of residents are not paying rates.
This came out during Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Midlands, Larry Mavima’s business tour of the town on Wednesday.
Mavima described Zvishavane Town Council as shameful and the worst run local authority in Midlands Province.
This comes as top council officials including town secretary Tinoda Mukutu are on suspension on corruption charges.
The sex workers pay US$30 a day to the local authority’s security department so that they can bring in their clients day and night.
Mavima ordered that the sex workers to be removed with immediate effect, describing the situation as “depressing”. He said:

This visit is depressing, Zvishavane has the worst management for any local authority. It is not only embarrassing but shameful and unacceptable that a local authority can resort to brothels as a way of fundraising. That brothel should be closed immediately.

Meanwhile, Mandava has 500 people who are sharing public toilets and bathrooms.
