The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported two accidents involving a CAG bus and a Stallion Cruise bus. Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the police are concerned about accidents where motorists are hitting pedestrians. They are also urging public service vehicle operators not to overload their vehicles. Nyathi said in a statement:

<h3>ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT INVOLVING CAG AND STALLION CRUISE BUSES</h3>
The Zimbabwe Republic Police reports a serious road traffic accident which occurred on 23rd December 2023 at 1300 hours when a CAG bus travelling along Centenary-Muzarabani Road failed to negotiate a curve at the 55 km peg and rammed on the mountainside of the road. 
The bus had 68 passengers. 15 passengers sustained various injuries due to the accident and were taken to St Albert Mission hospital for treatment.
In another accident which occurred on 24th December 2023 at 0100 hours, a Stallion Cruise bus fail to go through a blind rise at the 22 km peg, Gwai River, along Binga Road near Kamativi and rolled backwards. The bus fell on its side. 24 passengers were injured and were referred to Kamativi clinic for treatment. The police has established that the bus had 74 passengers.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned with road traffic accidents recorded so far in which motorists are running over pedestrians throughout the country. The pedestrians will either be standing on the side of the road, bus stop or walking beside the road.
On the other hand, Public service vehicle operators are implored not to overload their vehicles as this is contributing to some of the accidents being recorded.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police will release consolidated road traffic accident statistics for the Unity day, Christmas and Boxing day on 27th December 2023.
The Police reiterates that no private taxis or mushika shika will be allowed to pass through police checkpoints which include road safety campaigns points.

Police Confirm Accidents Involving Stallion Cruise And CAG Buses

The Government says it will soon introduce a new law to curb road traffic accidents that have killed hundreds of people so far this year.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona Mhona said that the Government will soon gazette a new Statutory Instrument on measures to curb the road carnage.
He said the law would ensure the right age requirement for bus drivers is met while fixing the maximum speed for buses, among other measures.
Mhona made the remarks in Dotito, Mashonaland Central province last week after visiting the scene of the CAG bus accident that claimed seven lives. He said:

The law will make sure buses that are brought into the country are fixed in a manner that makes sure they do not go above 100km/hr.
We have excitable drivers who are also inexperienced and underage. We will address all this in our new law that is coming soon.
</blockquote>
Mhona also announced that the soon-to-be-introduced plastic discs will reduce a massive backlog of driver’s licenses. He said:

It will be acceptable in 27 countries in and out of SADC. There is a code that shows everything about the driver and on the 19th of this month, there will be an official launch of the license. It will also reduce the making of fake driver’s licenses.
We had a backlog of over 600 000 driver’s licenses and this will ensure we bring this to an end. We were having problems with licenses.

Govt Mulls New Law To Curb Road Accidents

An unnamed Harare bus terminus tout was killed, allegedly by a bus crew, in the early hours of Wednesday 16 June 2021 in Harare.
The body of the unnamed man was still at the 4th Street bus terminus at 7 AM as police interviewed witnesses.
A witness at the scene told ZimLive by phone:
<blockquote>_He was stabbed in the chest during a fight over passengers at around 5 AM. He was tussling with a C.A.G Travellers Coaches bus crew._</blockquote>
The witness said the C.A.G bus had left for Mutare after the incident.

The dead man’s body was covered with a purple blanket as police moved around the area for witnesses.
Touts at bus terminus often engage in nasty fights over passengers. Some travellers have lost property or been roughed up by the touts who often drag them, against their will, to a particular bus.
In April this year, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/04/04/touts-in-viral-beitbridge-video-jailed-six-months-for-manhandling-woman/">four touts were jailed for six months</a> after they were recorded manhandling an elderly woman at Dulivhadzimu Long Distance Bus Terminus in Beitbridge.

Harare Bus Terminus Tout Killed By A Bus Crew

A Harare woman has dragged CAG Tours bus company to court demanding US$407 000 for the death of her husband who died last year due <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/12/20/many-passengers-injured-as-a-cag-bus-falls-into-ditch/">to the bus driver’s negligence.</a>
The widow, Wona Macingwane wants the damages for her upkeep as well as that of her daughter Ayana Aneni Macingwane Chidzanira and father-in-law Webster Chidzanira.
The driver, Mamwena Tinashe Marombo, was convicted of culpable homicide and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
Court papers show that Marombo failed to give way at the intersection of Sam Nujoma and Josiah Chinamano on October 8, 2020, and rammed into a Toyota Hilux single cab vehicle driven by Macingwane’s husband, Tadiwanashe Chidzanira, killing him instantly.
Macingwane says she was forced to seek legal recourse after the bus company refused to entertain her compensation request. Her summons filed at the High Court read:
<blockquote>The premature termination of her husband’s life has necessitated a claim for basic necessities such as food, transport, and shelter until she remarries.
She endured trauma, pain, and suffering for the loss of life of her husband through Marombo’s negligence. She was not working as she was to complete her degree and solely relied on the deceased to take care of her and pay her tuition.</blockquote>
Macingwane is claiming:
<blockquote>

<li>US$50, 000 for the loss of her husband and family breadwinner</li>
<li>US$41, 200 for loss of love and emotional support.</li>
<li>US$218,000 for her daughter for emotional pain for the loss of a father and guardian.</li>
<li>US$168,000 for the daughter’s upkeep, with a US$1,000 monthly payout until she can support herself.</li>
<li>US$87,000 in damages for losing his son who was responsible for his upkeep and medical expenses.</li>
<li>US$2,095 for the casket,</li>
<li>US$800 for the purchase of a grave at Glen Forest,</li>
<li>US$9,600 in air travel for 6 families, among others costs.</li>
<li>US$14,000 for damage to her husband’s vehicle and</li>
<li>US1,000 for his cellphones that were crushed in the accident.</li>
</ul>
</blockquote>
Macingwane’s husband was employed at Trade Kings Zimbabwe (Private) Limited as a quality controller.
The matter is yet to be heard.
