A 20 year old Banket man, Malvern Makuranga was jailed for one year by Chinhoyi magistrate Letwin Rwodzi for wearing Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) uniform.
Mukaranga of Templeton Farm, Banket, who is employed at UMC Gold Mine, was arrested on March 7 after he was found wearing a ZNA uniform. He was charged with unlawful possession or wearing of an army uniform. Makuranga pleaded guilty to the offence. He said he did not know that he was committing an offence by wearing the uniform that belonged to his older brother who works for the ZNA in Mutare. Mukaranga said he wore the uniform because he wanted free transport because he did not have bus fare from Banket to Chinhoyi.
Rwodzi slapped Makuranga with a one-year prison sentence. However, he will spend nine months after three months of his sentence were wholly-suspended for five years.

Man Jailed For Wearing Army Uniform

ZimLive reports that Zimbabwe’s soldiers have been banned from wearing uniforms unless they are on deployment.
In an internal memo, obtained by the website, the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) commander Lieutenant General Edzai Chimonyo said the measure had been taken “to ensure impostors abusing the uniforms will be easily identified and also ensure safety of members outside cantonment areas.”
In the memo dated February 6, Chimonyo said no soldiers will be allowed to travel to work wearing their uniforms. He said the uniforms will be left in the barracks.  Said Chimonyo:
<blockquote>It has been noted with concern that ZNA uniform has been abused in offences being committed such as robbery, gold panning, fraud, theft and extortion among others. Some members have also been attacked by civilians whilst in uniforms.</blockquote>

Zimbabwe Soldiers Banned From Wearing Uniform Outside Barracks Unless When Deployed- Report

Speaking in the Senate while responding to a question by Zanu PF Senator Tapera Machingaifa on Thursday, Defence Minister Sydney Sekeramayi warned shops that are still selling military attire.
Machingaifa had asked if those found wearing or selling clothing with camouflage design would be prosecuted. In his response, Sekeramayi said victims of crimes such as rape, murder, armed robbery and forms of corruption were blaming their unfortunate experiences on the military, which is why Government is  saying, it is illegal for anybody to wear military regalia or anything camouflage. Said Sekeramayi:
<blockquote>Now, this is a directive to shop owners and retailers that it is illegal to sell this type of regalia. This should also serve as a warning to civilians that it is illegal for you to wear fashionable look alike military regalia. We do not want to end up prosecuting people unnecessarily. Hence, I am pleading with Honourable Senators and Members of Parliament to go and advise shop owners, retailers and hawkers in your respective constituencies to stop selling fashionable look alike military regalia because it is illegal. So, people who continue putting on such attire should stand warned that it is illegal and whosoever is found in future to be abrogating this law may find themselves being arrested and prosecuted.  Putting on military attire, fatigue or camouflage is illegal.</blockquote>
He also clarified when asked by Senator Lilian Timveos if musical performers such Jah Prayzah were permitted to don the attire and said members of Jah Prayzah’s group are known even their physique and sizes are well known by the military. He said Jah Prayzah is allowed to wear camouflage because he is Zimbabwe’s military ambassador. Sekeramayi also warned civilians not to imitate Jah Prayzah.

Govt warns shops still selling camouflage, clarifies on Jah Prayzah

People seem to have heeded the <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2016/12/28/zna-news-release-wearing-camouflage-regalia-resembling-army-uniforms/" target="_blank">warnings</a> from the <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police" target="_blank">ZRP</a> and the <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_National_Army" target="_blank">ZNA</a> about the illegal wearing of camouflage uniforms.  Judging from the dressing at the end of the year Fill-Up HICC concert.  There were no “camouflage uniforms’ which had become a defining characteristic of <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Jah_Prayzah" target="_blank">Jah Prayzah</a>‘s fans.
The attendance of the concert was less than what was expected, as fans stayed away.  The concert was organized by 2 Kings Entertainment and featured artists such as Jah Prayzah, Oliver Mutukudzi, Killer T and  Freeman among a whole host of performers.
