CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has successfully filed his candidate nomination papers at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) ahead of the 23 August 2023 harmonised elections.
Chamisa ran for the highest office in the land in 2018 on an MDC Alliance ticket but lost the race to ZANU PF’s Emmerson Mnangagwa who received 50.8% of the vote against his 44.3%.
The results gave Mnangagwa the majority needed to avoid a runoff but Chamisa rejected the results and sought to have them nullified by the Constitutional Court.
The Constitutional Court bench unanimously upheld the results and ruled that Chamisa had failed to provide evidence that the election was rigged as he had alleged.
Posting on Twitter this Tuesday, Chamisa said he was ready for the challenges ahead after successfully filing his nomination papers. <a href="https://twitter.com/nelsonchamisa/status/1671148523968929792">He said</a>:

CCC also announced that Chamisa had successfully filed his nomination papers. It said:

Our Change Champion in Chief, Advocate Nelson Chamisa has successfully filed his nomination papers in preparation for the upcoming elections.
This brisk filing involved submitting a nomination form, signed by the candidate, his chief election agent, and party signatories to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
The payment of $20,000 was duly settled. It’s officially GAME TIME!
We are ready to win Zimbabwe for change!

Mnangagwa of ZANU PF will be running for his second and final term in office, while self-exiled former ZANU PF member Saviour Kasukuwere on Monday announced that he will be contesting in the presidential election.
In 2018, 23 candidates were on the presidential ballot paper but this year there are likely going to be fewer names on the ballot after ZEC hiked nomination fees to US$20 000.

Chamisa Successfully Files Presidential Candidate Nomination Papers

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa is reportedly set to remove from party nomination lists some current Members of Parliament for taking up the US$40 000 “housing loans” offered to MPs by the Government last year.
Last year, Chamisa criticised the Government for alleged misplaced priorities over the housing loans advanced to Cabinet Ministers, their deputies and MPs.
He said it is “morally and ethically wrong” for the government to give out loans to “chefs” when the majority of the country’s citizens are suffering.
<a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/chamisa-set-to-snub-incumbent-mps-in-candidate-selection/">The Herald</a> quoted an unnamed CCC insider as saying the issue of loans resurfaced during the opposition party’s candidate selection process. Said the official:

What is happening right now in the camp is something else. There is gross disorder and nothing that is happening there is transparent because as we speak Chamisa is threatening to dump some of the MPs who took the US$40 000 loan.
We thought it was something that was in the past as it was done above board, but to our surprise, it is something that is still weighing heavily in his head and some MPs will face his wrath.

However, CCC Chief Whip Prosper Mutseyami, who declined nomination for the upcoming general elections is on record as saying the loans were above board, hence the opposition MPs were justified in taking them up. He said:

The loan is, therefore, not a surprising executive instrument, but one that went through due process of appropriation and it’s provided for in the Constitution of the country and it’s not a donation and it is above board.
It was in this context that a housing facility was raised. Indeed over the years different facilities and loans have always been provided to Parliament.
The most common of these loans have been vehicle loans of up to US$60 000 in some cases. The loans have always been repaid.
Where there has been a default, Parliament has instituted legal proceedings and court records are public.

CCC is yet to announce its candidates for the 23 August general elections, with just a day before they file their nomination papers with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Chamisa Set To Snub Incumbent MPs In Candidate Selection For Accepting Housing Loans | Report

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa said that those who lost in the party’s recently concluded candidate selection process and are not happy about it are free to contest as independent candidates in the 23 August general elections.
Speaking during a press conference on Sunday, Chamisa also said the party will not disclose the final list of its candidates claiming that doing so will expose them to victimisation by ZANU PF. Said Chamisa:

Those who want to be independent are free to do so. Being independent is the simplest thing to do. They can even file now. One is free to stand on their own.
Those who want to be in CCC are already on the party ticket and they will register as party-nominated candidates.
If one has any query and you have approached the grievance body and your issue has not been resolved, you are free to stand on your own.
</blockquote>
Chamisa said the losing nominee in Harare East between legislators Tendai Biti and Allan Markham will be redeployed somewhere.
NewZimbabwe.com reported that former MDC official, Last Maengehama, was nominated to stand as CCC parliamentary candidate for Glen View North constituency.
Maengahama was jailed for 20 years together with Tungamirai Madzokere for allegedly killing a police officer in 2011 but served eight years at Chikurubi Maximum Prison before they were acquitted.
Maengahama was a national executive member of the MDC at the time of his arrest.
Other CCC nominees for parliamentary elections include former Harare Mayor Herbert Gomba (Glen Norah), Zivai Mhetu (Epworth North), Fadzayi Mahere (Mt Pleasant), Maureen Kademaunga (Sunningdale), Lovemore Chinoputsa (Hunyani), Masimba Manyanya (Goromonzi North), Luke Tamborinyoka (Goromonzi West) and Richard Tsvangirai (Norton).
Job Sikhaka Junior was nominated for Zengeza West where his father, who is in prison, is the incumbent MP.
CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba and Enerst Rafamoyo were both nominated for Phelandaba-Tshabalala constituency.

Chamisa Tells Disgruntled CCC Losing Nominees To Contest As Independent Candidates

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has said those on the party’s nomination list who won’t make it in the final list of 2023 parliamentary and local government candidates will be redeployed in the CCC “Government.”
Addressing a press conference in Harare on Sunday afternoon, Chamisa was asked specifically about what will happen to either <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Tendai_Biti">Tendai Biti</a> or <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Allan_Markham">Allan “Rusty” Markham</a>, the Harare East and Harare North MPs, respectively, who were nominated for Harare East, since both cannot be CCC candidates for the constituency. In response, Chamisa said:

Well, they will be redeployed elsewhere. You know, the citizens’ movement is a big movement. Roles and tasks are given by the citizens.
The one who has been nominated will be the candidate and the one who is not nominated will also be deployed. They will be given other responsibilities.

Asked if the losing candidates will be coming back to Parliament as Senators or through Proportional Representation, Chamisa said:
<blockquote>
They will come into Government. We are no longer talking about Parliament now. Our eyes are on Government. They will be in Government serving the people of Zimbabwe.

Following the recent 2023 delimitation exercise by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) which came up with new electoral boundaries for wards and constituencies, Ward 18 which was part of the pre-delimitation Harare North was moved to Harare East constituency.
ZEC dissolved the Harare North constituency and Markham contested in Harare East for a ticket to represent CCC in the 23 August elections.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Markham will be the CCC candidate for Harare East, which means Biti will either contest as an independent candidate or revive his PDP party to have any chance of retaining his seat.

Chamisa Pledges To Redeploy Losing Candidate Nominees In CCC Government

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa said that the opposition party has completed the selection of parliamentary and local government candidates who will represent the party in the 23 August harmonised elections.
However, a list of candidates’ names announced during a press conference held by the party in Harare on Sunday revealed that most constituencies have up to three nominees.
Responding to journalists on why the final list of successful candidates was not available just two days before the nomination court sits, <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/zanu-pf-is-pursuing-our-candidates-we-wont-advertise-targets-says-chamisa-adds-ccc-will-only-avail-final-nominees-list-to-zec/">Chamisa said</a>:

Why should we announce a final list of candidates when ZANU PF is literally pursuing our candidates one by one?
Why should we give you the list now? Do you want us to advertise targets and victims?
We are dealing with ZANU PF, and we know how to deal with it. Even if they come, hoping to get information from journalists, we will not give them that information.
The only information that we will give them is that we are ready, and we will win.
</blockquote>
Chamisa also said a list will only be given to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) on Wednesday adding party members already know who their candidates are. He said:

The citizens’ movement already has candidates. We have already concluded the process.
Candidates are selected at the local level for wards’ representatives, it has already been done.
The list we have given you has the final nominees in each constituency.
The citizens have already decided on which candidates they prefer.
Citizens already know who their candidates are and as leaders, we just facilitate the selection process.
Are you the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission: Why do you want the final list?
The final list is for various constituencies. You are not the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
We have given you what you were supposed to get. The final list you have already as per constituency.
I am not so sure if you want us to announce it again. We have had a consensus. Wait for Wednesday. You will see the final list of the candidates.
We have given you the report and all the necessary information regarding the journey of candidate selection.
When we mention names, we are very specific. We have given you the names of preferred candidates in each constituency.
All that is missing is to say, so and so will be filled at the nomination court. 
So, if you are given a choice of answers A, B, and C, you have to choose the best one.

Chamisa Says CCC Will Only Avail Its Final Election Candidates' List To ZEC

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) on Saturday held its last candidates’ selection process in Harare Province.
The run-up to the candidate selection process was dominated by reports of a fierce battle for the nomination in Harare East constituency between incumbent legislator Tendai Biti and Harare North MP Allan Markham.
The results of the CCC Harare Province nominations are yet to be announced.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200012968/ccc-finalises-candidates-selection">The Standard</a> on Saturday evening the party’s candidate selection process went smoothly. She said:
<blockquote>
We saw an overwhelming turnout of citizens and every one of the caucuses was conducted in peace.
The citizens’ voices were heard. Reports will be furnished to the Citizens’ Independent Selection Panel in due course.
</blockquote>
Mahere said the panel would collate information from nomination stakeholder consultation and community consensus before announcing the winners.
However, reports suggest that the CCC candidate selection process was marred by violence and bussing of supporters in some suburbs.
The Harmonised Elections will be held on 23 August 2023, with the Nominations Courts set to sit on Wednesday across the country to consider names of aspiring MPs and councillors.
In Harare, the nomination court will consider the names of presidential candidates.

CCC Finalises Candidate Selection Process

The opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates selection process has been marred by confusion as the party is yet to release the candidates list only a week before Nomination Courts sit.
The purpose of the Nomination Courts is to select candidates who qualify for the Presidential, National Assembly and Local Authority categories.
CCC deputy spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Siziba told <a href="https://tellzim.com/confusion-mars-ccc-candidates-selection/">TellZim</a> in an interview that the candidate selection process will be completed soon after which the party will announce its candidates. He said:
<blockquote>
The process is almost done, we will announce the list of candidates soon, our members should not be worried at all.
</blockquote>
Siziba, however, could not give a specific date as to when the candidates will be announced but sought to assure supporters that the party has everything under control.
CCC members and supporters fear that the party’s candidates won’t have enough time to campaign especially in rural areas where ZANU PF arguably dominates the voter base.
In Masvingo Urban and Chiredzi Town, supporters were expected to vote for their preferred candidates on Saturday.
The elections were to be held through the traditional “Bereka Mwana” method where party members will stand behind their preferred candidate.
The presiding officers would manually count the people and the one with more people behind him/her would become the winner.
However, some party insiders told TellZim that winning the vote will not automatically mean the candidate wins the chance to represent the party as other nomination stages will be taken into consideration. said A source:

Nominated candidates will have to go through another stage where people are going to be elected by party supporters. They will present their manifestos to the electorate before the election.
After that, they will then be ranked and the top three will go to the next which is probably the final stage.

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa openly said he is going to sign the nomination papers for the candidates to avoid double candidates.
In Masvingo, all nominated CCC aspiring candidates were on Sunday expected to bring their papers to the cluster center where they will be taken to the independent commission which will determine who among the three top candidates is most suitable, taking into consideration scores from the four vetting stages.

Confusion Mars CCC's Candidates Selection Process

CCC has dismissed purported lists of its candidates for the upcoming harmonised elections circulating on social media platforms and has warned its aspiring candidates against celebrating early victory.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200012534/ccc-dismisses-leaked-candidates-list">NewsDay</a> quoted CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere as saying the Candidate Independent Section Panel (CISP) was yet to release the list of successful candidates.
Mahere said a formal list of successful candidates will be announced: “at the appropriate time”. She said:
<blockquote>
It’s important to highlight that once each step is complete, a formal report is presented to the panel, which then collates all the factors to select a candidate.
The citizen caucuses are not decisive nor are they meant to necessarily produce a single candidate.
All factors will be taken into account and a formal list will be announced at the appropriate time.
No person who is not the CISP has the prerogative to announce candidates. We call on all citizens and stakeholders to be patient with the process and to disregard mischievous elements referring to ‘leaked lists’.
As soon as the final, official candidate list is complete, it will be made public and communicated officially.

The CCC candidates’ selection criteria is a five-step process. These are nomination, candidate acceptance of confirmation, candidate vetting, announcement of candidates, and consensus-building caucuses.
During the candidate selection process, CCC was also looking at three attributes of loyalty, the first is loyalty to the country, the second is loyalty to the people or the constituency, and the third one is loyalty to God.

CCC Dismisses "Mischievous" Leaked Candidate Lists

The leader of Zimbabwe’s main opposition party, the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC), <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a>, has said the party has barred members who are after money or suspected of working with ZANU PF from representing it in the 23 August harmonised elections.
CCC abandoned primary elections and adopted what it calls a citizens-centred selection process whereby candidates are selected based on their ability to represent the interests of the people.
The opposition party said primary elections were prone to infiltration by ZANU PF and State agents working on behalf of the ruling party.
Posting on Twitter this Wednesday, Chamisa said CCC has come up with credible candidates to contest for parliamentary and local government seats. He said:

NOT DIGGERS AND DEALERS…The Citizens’ representatives have been chosen by communities across Zimbabwe.
It’s so exciting that we have credible representatives for Parliament and Council.
Whoever is after self-gain or self-care will not serve in the new!
Whoever uses money and trinkets to buy citizens or bribe voters can’t serve.
Whoever is tainted, compromised or plays for the other team can’t serve!
Zimbabwe needs change and deserves truly new leaders!

Reports suggest that several CCC bigwigs in Bulawayo Province aspiring to represent the party in the 23 August elections were disqualified during the verification process.
The verification process started on Friday and ended on Saturday in Bulawayo.
Most of the sitting councillors and some Members of Parliament were disqualified as the opposition party tries to remove suspected secret agents from genuine members.
Some aspiring candidates were reportedly disqualified for vote-buying and bussing supporters.
Candidates who failed to make it to the list of nominees include current Bulawayo Metropolitan MP, Jasmine Toffa, CCC Bulawayo Provincial Spokesperson, Swithern Chirowodza, Njube -Lobengula MP Gift Banda, and former Bulawayo Deputy Mayor <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Tinashe_Kambarami">Tinashe Kambarami</a>.

Diggers, Dealers Will Not Represent CCC, Says Chamisa

Zimbabwe’s main opposition party, the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) is yet to come up with its final list of candidates who will contest this year’s parliamentary and local government elections just over two months before the polls.
CCC abandoned primary elections and adopted a citizens-centred selection process whereby candidates are selected based on their ability to represent the interests of the people.
The process is in five stages namely:
<ol>
<li>Nomination which happened on 5 April 2023</li>
<li>Candidate acceptance confirmation in which nominated candidates were supposed to accept the nomination;</li>
<li>Candidate vetting to weed out suspected secret agents</li>
<li>Announcement of candidates that would have passed the vetting stage</li>
<li>Consensus-building caucuses before the official announcement of victorious candidates</li>
</ol>
The CCC’s candidate nomination process is being conducted by an independent body, the Citizens’ Independent Candidate Selection Panel (CISP).
The Citizen Independent Selection Panel will deal with any complaints that will arise during the candidate selection process.
Speaking during an interview with <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/interview-chamisa-outlines-citizenocratic-candidate-selection-says-nomination-process-kicks-off-this-week/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> in April this year, CCC leader Nelson Chamisa explained the rationale behind the candidate selection process. He said:

It’s novel and it’s modern and places the citizen at the centre of the process. Citizenocracy is government by the citizens. It’s a citizenocratic selection process.
Citizens want candidates to be selected on merit, integrity, dignity, suitability and accountability. Citizens prefer representatives who are visible, accessible and available.
Those leaders regularly report back to constituencies and communities to get instructions and progress on policies and national priorities of public interest.
All these are going to be considered through a rigorous vetting panel that looks at these critical tests.
In the event that we have more candidates nominated, citizens’ caucuses are convened.
A citizen caucus is constituted of those who have subscribed to citizen philosophy and ideology in the constituency or in a particular ward.
The process also involves wide consultation with stakeholders in that particular constituency or ward.
Your community track record is the qualification to be nominated.
It is your service to the nation and we have criteria for that, we are looking at three attributes of loyalty.
You must pass that. The first is loyalty to the country. The second is loyalty to the people or the constituency.
The third one is loyalty to God, the author of the universe. You can’t lead the people of God when you do not have a relationship with the God of the people.

The verification process started on Friday and ended on Saturday in Bulawayo.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200012519/ccc-bigwigs-fall-in-bulawayo">NewsDay</a> reported sources as saying most of the sitting councillors and some Members of Parliament were disqualified as the opposition party tries to remove suspected secret agents from genuine members.
Some aspiring candidates were reportedly disqualified for vote-buying and bussing supporters. Said a source:

Besides the 11th-hour disqualification of almost all incumbents, the process proceeded smoothly in all wards except in ward 24, where the caucus didn’t take place on numerous allegations of bussing (in of voters).

CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba who will represent the party in Pelandaba-Tshabalala said:
<blockquote>
I have just received a report from our security department that some of my good friends have been vetted out because you know this struggle has taken too long, so we are dealing with sell-outs and nincompoops in our midst.
</blockquote>
Siziba made the remarks at the launch of the Deputy Prime Minister in the 2009-13 Government of National Unity, Arthur Mutambara’s book on Friday.
In Bulawayo’s Ward 25, there were alleged attempts to disqualify Alderman Mzamo Dube after he was overwhelmingly nominated. Said a source:

The process was chaotic because whoever was able to transport people was ahead. The process was also slow, and there was sheer disregard for people’s time.
Vote-buying allegations were flying all over as some candidates were buying people with US$5 notes and alcohol.

In Cowdray Park, former Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe will face Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube.
In Nkulumane, CCC will be represented by Desire Moyo, while Tendai Nyathi will represent the opposition party in Lobengula-Magwegwe where Kucaca Phulu is currently the MP.
The other nominees, subject to confirmation by the party are as follows:

CCC Disqualifies Several Top Officials During Verification Process

Some Citizen’s Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates who failed in their bid to represent the party in the upcoming elections are reportedly set to appeal before the final list of successful candidates is announced.
<a href="https://cite.org.zw/losing-ccc-candidates-launch-last-ditch-appeals/">CITE</a> reported that some candidates who failed to make it to the list of nominees include current Bulawayo Metropolitan MP, Jasmine Toffa, CCC Bulawayo Provincial Spokesperson, Swithern Chirowodza, Njube -Lobengula MP Gift Banda, and former Bulawayo Deputy Mayor <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Tinashe_Kambarami">Tinashe Kambarami</a>.
CCC had a citizens’ caucus meeting on Saturday in all provinces to confirm its election nominees. A source was quoted as saying:

Candidates who were dissatisfied with Saturday’s outcome might file their appeals within seven days before the final list is made public.
Naturally, there won’t be an announcement within that period as we have seven days to make appeals.
Judging from that it is quite definite there won’t be any announcement this week.
There can’t be an announcement of who made it before these appeal processes are through, it’s only logical.

CCC insiders told CITE that getting the most nomination votes does not necessarily mean that one becomes the party’s candidate in the 23 August elections. Said the source:

We have what we call “Consensus preference” which when defined in the media is mobilisation of consensus in relation to numbers.
But the person who gets the highest numbers in consensus preference will not automatically be the candidate and that is what people must bear in mind.
There are boxes to tick such as if the said person has a role in the party, which position did they have, what does their CV look like, and what is their credibility, loyalty and service in the party?
All these play a part, consensus preference is just one of the boxes that has to be ticked.

Losing CCC Aspiring Candidates Set To Appeal

The Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) said it will not share the names of members who were nominated during the ongoing Consensus Candidate Selection process to protect them from victimisation by ZANU PF, especially in rural areas.
CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba told journalists on Thursday that after the party’s nomination process, a vetting process was conducted which will be followed by manifesto presentations.
He said the presentations are set for this Saturday and Sunday, with CCC’s final list of council and parliament candidates set to be announced soon. <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/rural-folks-shying-away-from-chamisas-ccc-says-partys-deputy-spokesperson-as-candidate-selection-process-concludes/">Said Siziba</a>:

We are dealing with a brutally callous, indifferent regime that is in panic and one of its manner of manipulation is the harvest of fear, the use of fear against those who differ with the state or President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.
It is without doubt that citizens have subscribed to the citizen’s movement and are ready to represent the party from various angles however one of the challenges we have faced during this process is this harvest of fear particularly in the countryside.
It is because of that strategic necessity that we have not publicly released the names of those that have been nominated in the countryside because ZANU PF has deployed violence as a tool to try to influence our people to withdraw from nominations and the process.
Remember the election has not been declared, and the nomination court has not been sat. We have agreed to protect our people.
You know in Zaka one of our candidates was abducted and tortured.

Elections in Zimbabwe in the past two decades have been characterised by politically motivated violence.
Opposition party members and supporters have been targeted by ruling ZANU PF party supporters and security forces.

CCC Won't Reveal Names Of Nominees In Rural Areas  - Siziba

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has said vetting for aspiring Members of Parliament has been completed with the party having received over 2 000 nominations.
Giving an update on the candidate selection process, CCC deputy national spokesperson, Gift Siziba also said more than 10 000 people who have been nominated to be councillors. <a href="https://cite.org.zw/ccc-says-over-40k-nominations-received-for-aspiring-candidates/">Siziba said</a>:

We have had an overwhelming subscription from different Zimbabweans. We have more than 10 000 people who have been nominated to be councillors who are currently going through vetting.
… We received more than 36 000 forms for the nomination of the Presidential candidates and President Nelson Chamisa was nominated overwhelmingly, it’s impressive for us, we are very happy with the subscription.

Siziba denied reports that CCC was failing to get candidates in some rural areas.
He said people are willing to represent the party “in deeper parts of the country like Uzumba, Chiredzi, Mwenezi where traditionally the Democratic alternatives had problems.”

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has claimed their political opponents are trying to infiltrate the party’s ongoing candidate selection process.
Chamisa said the selection process, which is now at the vetting stage, will be thorough and meticulous to prevent infiltration by ZANU PF members. Said Chamisa:

The other side’s investment in infiltration is huge, they are quaking and sweating!

On Thursday, CCC said the candidate selection process is transparent and will produce the right candidates to represent the party in upcoming general elections. The party said:

Chamisa Claims His "Structureless Structure" Has ZANU PF Quaking

Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators for Mutare Central and Mutasa Central, Innocent Gonese and Trevor Saruwaka, respectively, stepped down from contesting in upcoming elections despite being nominated.
In a statement, Gonese, who is one of the opposition’s senior officials, said he had decided to back another nomination candidate Brian James to contest for the seat.
Gonese announced his decision to not contest in the upcoming general elections shortly after Saruwaka stepped down from contesting. Said Gonese:

I would like to thank the people of Mutare Central for giving me the opportunity to represent them as their representative in Parliament and also for nominating me as a Candidate in the forthcoming elections.
I am also happy that the former Mutare Mayor was also nominated as a candidate and while all the names are being vetted pending further processes, such as consultations and consensus in terms of the new candidate selection procedures, I have decided to decline the nomination.
I had a fruitful discussion with James yesterday as I consider him a very worthy and deserving person to take over from me and I am pleased to advise that we are going to work together to ensure that Mutare Central remains yellow and plays its part in ensuring that we deliver maximum votes for President Chamisa and all candidates in other positions.

Two Veteran CCC Lawmakers Decline Nomination

The Citizens’ Coalition For Change (CCC) on Tuesday continued its candidate nomination process ahead of the 2023 general elections to be held later this year.
The CCC candidate selection process comprises four key milestones, that is, candidate nomination, candidate vetting, candidate caucuses, and declaration of successful candidates.
Today, thousands of candidates who were recently nominated to represent the party in forthcoming elections are being vetted in their respective provinces. CCC said in a statement:

Today, candidates who were recently nominated to represent the Citizens’ movement in the upcoming general elections are currently undergoing a vetting process in their respective provinces.
The nomination process has received an overwhelming response with a 100% success rate in all the 210 constituencies and 1971 wards.
The Citizens’ Independent Selection Panel is committed to delivering candidates that are a product of free, fair, credible and transparent process which is in line with the values, principles and objectives of our CCC candidate selection regulations and procedures.

The candidates will stand at the council, parliament, and presidential level in upcoming general elections.
The opposition party decided not to hold primary elections but to allow communities to select suitable party representatives to contest the 2023 elections.

CCC Candidate Selection Process Now At Second Stage

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere has accused journalist and Government critic Hopewell Chin’ono of spreading malicious information about the opposition party.
Chin’ono claimed that CCC has failed to field candidates in some constituencies and wards in Manicaland and Mashonaland West provinces.
In response, Mahere said the party accepts constructive criticism and respects freedom of expression but will not be swayed by people with a “dirty agenda”. She said:

Why not be respectful enough to allow the Independent Selection Panel to complete its work instead of churning out malicious disinformation?
Wait for due process and official announcements instead of getting ahead of yourself with erroneous reporting. This is regrettable.

We won’t stop working hard, holding the Govt to account, speaking out against corruption, mobilizing the masses &amp; fighting to win Zimbabwe for change.

Chin’ono, who recently clashed on social media with CCC activists after claiming the opposition in Zimbabwe was as dead as a Dodo, claimed that CCC was finding it difficult to find candidates in some rural areas. He tweeted:

Fadzayi Mahere Accuses Chin'ono Of Spreading Malicious Disinformation

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has been nominated, uncontested, as the presidential candidate for the opposition party in the upcoming elections, reported <a href="https://cite.org.zw/chamisa-confirmed-as-ccc-presidential-candidate/">CITE</a>.
The party’s Citizen’s Independent Selection Panel (CISP) gave an update on the candidate selection process during a press conference held on Thursday in Harare.
Rashid Mahiya, a member of CISP, said Chamisa was nominated as the Presidential candidate by all streets and villages. He said:

Presidential nominations, Chamisa Nelson has been nominated as the Presidential candidate by all streets and villages whose returns are in our possession.

He said there was an overwhelming response from aspiring candidates across the country. Said Mahiya:

The summary outcome of the candidate’s nomination after consulting stakeholders, village and street committees is as follows: The local authority nominations have been received from all the 36 000 villages, thousands of streets and 1 970 wards.
For the House of Assembly nomination, we received nominations from all 210 constituencies, an interesting phenomenon has been noted in some hotly contested constituencies for instance a constituency where 11 nominations were received for one seat.

Mahiya said the nominated candidates will be checked using set criteria including capability and competence. He said:

The opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) party has postponed the announcement of the names of candidates who were successfully nominated in the candidate nomination process conducted last week on Wednesday.
Last week, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the names of those who were nominated will be announced this Tuesday.
However, in a post on Twitter on Tuesday morning, Mahere said the announcement had been deferred to tomorrow, Wednesday, 12 April. She said:

CCC Expected To Announce Successful Candidate Nominees On 11 April

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) will conclude the candidate nomination process this Monday.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere on Monday said the nomination process will be done where it was not completed last Wednesday due to logistical challenges. She said:

Today (Monday, 10 April), we will complete the nomination process in areas where, due to logistical issues, the process could not be completed last week.
These aren’t “elections” so there are no “reruns.” All nominated candidates will be announced tomorrow and then proceed to the vetting stage.

Last week Mahere said the process has at least four stages with the nomination being the first stage.
She said the process will also include vetting and the consultation of “key stakeholders” to further scrutinise the list. Said Mahere:

Following nomination, there is going to be a vetting process and the fact that one has been nominated is not the end of the situation, it doesn’t mean that you are yet eligible to be a candidate.
There will also be a process of community consensus building where citizens will come together and be told there is X, there is Y candidate, who do you prefer and why, they have an opportunity to make their case, deliver a very brief manifesto of what they plan to deliver in their wards or constituency and also to take questions from the community concerning their eligibility to run.

Mahere was nominated for the Mt Pleasant constituency seat, while deputy CCC spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Siziba will likely represent the party in the Pelandaba-Tshabalala seat.
