Tanaka Shandirwa has signed a pre-contract with CAPS United ahead of the 2025 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.
The talented midfielder, who is currently a Yadah player but on loan to Dynamos, has struggled to find form at DeMbare following a series of disciplinary issues both on and off the field.
Shandirwa, who had once been a promising talent, fell out of favour at Dynamos, and his future with the club was uncertain.
However, Makepekepe confirmed on their social media platforms that the player has agreed to a three-year deal with them.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/shandirwa-finds-new-home/">Zimpapers Sports Hub</a> on Monday, CAPS United president Farai Jere said Shandirwa has the potential to rediscover his best form and once again become one of the top players in the league. Said Jere:

Lot Chiwunga emerged as the hero for CAPS United, scoring the Green Machine’s third goal in added time, securing a 3-2 victory over Bosso.
The decisive goal came just moments after Junior Bunjira had equalized with five minutes left in regulation time.
CAPS United had trailed for much of the match due to a brace from Lynoth Chikuhwa within the first 32 minutes.
Facing potential defeat, CAPS United found hope when the league’s top scorer, William Manondo, converted a first-half penalty.
In his post-match remarks, coach Chitembwe highlighted the impact of his second-half substitutions, Ralph Kawondera and Chiwunga, on the match’s outcome. He said:

CAPS United players have called off their two-day strike and resumed training on Wednesday after receiving their outstanding June salaries.
Earlier this week, the CAPS United squad had been staging a sit-in protest at their training grounds at the Standard Chartered Sports Club, demanding the payment of their overdue salaries and signing-on fees.
On Wednesday, the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Morton Dodzo, told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/normalcy-returns-to-caps-utd/">The Herald</a> that the salary issues have now been resolved, and the team is fully focused on their upcoming Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against Chicken Inn scheduled for this Sunday at Luveve Stadium. Today the team has trained as we just promised on Tuesday that the club was processing their payments for the June Salaries.
We have already shifted focus to our coming encounter against Chicken Inn. I believe that come Sunday, the boys will be ready.
So now the outstanding issue is that of the signing-on fees. The club owes some individuals signing on fees and we already working on that.
We are hoping to avoid a scenario where other players receive their money while others appear like they are being overlooked.
So, we will try to let them receive their money in batches and clear everyone accordingly.
But the process can be duly done by calling individual by individual and coming to terms with their contracts.
We can’t afford to pay a single individual and leave some that will mean that the dressing room would be divided.

CAPS United could have lost thousands of dollars through leakages after officials claimed that 12,000 fans paid to watch the Harare derby on Sunday when the 23,000-seater Rufaro stadium appeared to be almost full.
Makepekepe were the hosts and therefore entitled to the matchday revenue.
Thousands of football fans turned up to watch the high-profile encounter between Harare rivals CAPS United and Dynamos, with the game ending 1-1.
The cheapest entry charge was pegged at $5 for the Rest of Ground ticket, while the Upper Grandstand tickets were sold for $10. The VVIP ticket cost $20.
According to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200027197/rufaro-gate-takings-raise-eyebrows">NewsDay</a>, this was the biggest crowd to attend a football match at Rufaro since it was reopened this year, with some even estimating the spectators to have been around 20,000.
However, the official attendance figures show that only 12 446 people paid to watch the derby, with CAPS United grossing around US$ 62,500.
Makepekepe were reportedly left with around US$30,000 after paying service providers such as hiring the stadium from the Harare City Council, police, ambulance services, private security, match officials as well as the ZIFA and SRC levies.
After deducting other indirect costs which included camping and allowances for the players, CAPS United will likely net around US$25 000.
A football expert who spoke to NewsDay on Monday on condition of anonymity said the figures were not adding up. He said:

If the official capacity is around 23,000 people, then it is easy to guess that over 20,000 attended. That stadium was almost full to capacity.
But when we hear that only 12,000 attended, then two issues immediately come up.
It is either the officials understated the figures or the ticketing system is porous. I want to believe it is the latter.
It’s high time that the PSL introduces the electronic ticketing system and pre-match ticket sales.
This is the only way to minimise leakages at the gate. Clubs are being prejudiced a lot of money through these leakages.

The expert also noted that the old gate turnstiles used at Rufaro Stadium have proved to be slow in admitting fans resulting in some spectators getting into the stadium at halftime.
In the case of Sunday’s Harare derby, thousands of fans were still queuing outside the stadium when the match kicked off at 3 PM.
CAPS United chief executive officer Morton Dodzo expressed satisfaction with the turnout, saying the match itself was enjoyable. Said Dodzo:

Defender Kelvin Moyo put Dynamos converted a penalty early in the second half before Ralph Kawondera bundled the ball over the line to give the Green Machine a share of the spoils.
The point moved CAPS United into sixth position with 17 points, but heaped more pressure on DeMbare coach Genesis Mangombe whose side sits on 12th position with 13 points.
The Glamour Boys are likely optimistic about defeating PSL debutants Arenel Movers in their upcoming match on Sunday, considering that their only two wins this season have been against newly promoted teams, Bikita Minerals and TelOne.
The 2014 champions will be hoping to get another third win when the PSL rules on their abandoned match against another promoted side, Chegutu Pirates.
The match was abandoned just after DeMbare had scored the only goal of the match in second-half stoppage time.

Harare Derby Generates Over US$60 000, CAPS United Left With Less Than US$30 000

The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has fined CAPS United US$5,000 for their fans’ behaviour which resulted in the abandonment of their match against FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium on April 6, 2024.
CAPS United were found guilty of contravening sections of the PSL Rules and Regulations after their fans invaded the pitch in protest of a referee’s decision to disallow a late goal by Ralph Kawondera for offside.
In addition, CAPS United forfeited the game on a 0-3 scoreline. Following the ruling, FC Platinum moved to third position on 18 points just one behind the log leaders Highlanders and Manica Diamonds who are second on goal difference.
The committee, however, suspended US$500 from the US$5,000 on condition of good behaviour. The club must pay the remaining US$4,500 along with hearing costs by May 27, 2024.
CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe was fined US$400 for criticising match officials after the match was abandoned.
A statement issued by the Premier Soccer League’s Communications and Media Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare this Wednesday, 08 May, reads:

The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has released the judgement in the matter involving CAPS United FC following the abandonment of their match against FC Platinum played at Mandava Stadium on 6 April 2024.

The effective fine of US$4500 together with the costs of the hearing is to be paid by 27 May 2024.

Some of them have been suspended when reports came in. But generally, the quality of our refereeing has improved.

The official statement unequivocally declares that incidents of violence and pitch invasions are not only embarrassing but also entirely unacceptable, as they tarnish the club’s reputation. It reads:

I almost cried when I came back to see that everyone at the time got something including those who came to watch the team training.
He brought at least 60 pairs of soccer boots, real boots with a value of at least US$340 per pair. It’s a donation which you can’t find anywhere every day.
We are talking of something between US$25 000 to US$35 000 which he poured to the team if we are to put it into monetary terms.

Dynamos Football Club has advanced to the semifinals of the Chibuku Super Cup after defeating FC Platinum in the Quarterfinals. The match ended in a 1-1 draw at regulation time, leading to a penalty shootout.
FC Platinum missed two penalties, while Dynamos FC successfully converted all five of theirs.
FC Platinum initially took the lead with a goal by Selemani in the 66th minute, but Dynamos equalized through Keith Madera ten minutes later.
Denver Mundikumbuke Mukamba, a fan favourite, was only introduced during injury time.

CAPS United has issued a statement refuting reports of Lloyd Chitembwe’s resignation as coach. The club expressed concern over the fake news circulating and confirmed that Chitembwe is still in charge. Said the club in a statement:

CAPS United climbed to the summit of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) following a narrow 1-0 win over Yadah Stars at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.

CAPS United Go Top With 1-0 Win Over Yadah Stars

CAPS United’s financial challenges which resulted in a chaotic 2022 season for the club, have resurfaced.
<a href="https://www.soccer24.co.zw/2023/04/17/money-issues-resurface-at-caps-united/">Soccer24</a> reported that CAPS United players initially refused to train on Thursday due to outstanding winning bonuses.
The players had reportedly been paid winning bonuses for only one of their three wins so far — the 2-0 win over Manica Diamonds on Matchday 1.
CAPS United also beat ZPC Kariba (1-0) and Black Rhinos (2-0) but winning bonuses for those games have not been paid.
On Thursday, club president Farai Jere held a crisis meeting with the players ahead of the top-of-the-table clash with FC Platinum after they refused to train.
A CAPS United player who spoke to Socer24 on condition of anonymity said Jere promised the players that the outstanding winning bonuses would be paid before the FC Platinum game. Said the player:

When the president (Jere) came to training on Thursday, it was because of a crisis meeting after he had heard we were refusing to train.
He (Jere) then promised us that our outstanding winning bonuses for the ZPC and Rhinos games would be paid ahead of the Platinum game.
The outstanding winning bonuses were not paid and nobody said anything to us. We just played the FC Platinum game and we are waiting to hear from the club’s leadership.

On 1 May 2022, CAPS United players threatened to boycott the league match against Cranborne Bullets over unpaid salaries and outstanding winning bonuses.

CAPS United's Financial Struggles Resurface

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League defending champions FC Platinum are hoping to knock CAPS United off their perch when the two sides meet at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
CAPS United have kept clean sheets in all of their opening matches of the current campaign which has propelled them to the summit of the league.
Makepepeke, who are led by coach Lloyd Chitembwe, beat Manica Diamonds and were held to a goalless draw by Ngezi Platinum Stars in Mhondoro in their first two matches, respectively.
They then beat ZPC Kariba and Black Rhinos in the other two matches.
However, FC Platinum get into the high-profile fixture in mourning following the death of Platinum Queens’ netball star Sbekezelo Ncubewho died suddenly on Thursday.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200010203/platinum-primed-to-burst-caps-bubble">NewsDay</a>, FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza said he hoped the tragedy won’t affect the players in tomorrow’s match. He said:

It hasn’t been easy for us. We lost one of our sisters from the Platinum Queens. We are trying to cope with the situation.

FC Platinum To Provide Litmus Test For CAPS United's Mettle

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ronald_Pfumbidzai">Ronald Pfumbidzai</a>, a 28-year-old Zimbabwean left-back, is one of the players to watch as Chippa United host Orlando Pirates this Saturday.
The former <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Caps_United_Football_Club">Caps United</a> player has impressed for the Chilli Boys this term and scored a brilliant goal to break the deadlock against SuperSport United. It was Pfumbidzai’s fourth goal in 16 outings and his form has led to the Tshwane giants signing him on a pre-contract earlier this week.
Etiosa Ighodaro, a 21-year-old Nigerian striker, is another player to watch for Chippa United, especially after being unable to make an impact against SuperSport. Ighodaro has been performing well in his debut season in the DStv Premiership, scoring eight goals in 18 top-flight matches since joining from the University of Pretoria in August 2022. He will be aiming to make a bigger impact against the Pirates, especially after scoring the equalizer against Sekhukhune.
Monnapule Saleng, a 25-year-old winger, is a player to watch for Orlando Pirates. Harare Mayor, Councillor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jacob_Mafume">Jacob Mafume</a>, has reiterated that the Premier Soccer League match between Dynamos FC and CAPS United, dubbed the Harare Derby, will be played at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Rufaro_Stadium">Rufaro Stadium</a> this season.
The 2023 football season kicks off this weekend and the derby will be in week seven of the 2023 season.
Mafume made the remarks during a recent tour of the ceremonial home of Zimbabwean Football which is undergoing renovations. He said:

I have looked at the itinerary and I’m sure it will be played.

Mayor Mafume Says Harare Derby Will Be Played At Rufaro Stadium

CAPS United have announced the signing of nineteen-year-old winger Tanaka Koni from Division One.
Makepekepe took to Facebook to announce the transfer of Koni from Guruve United on a permanent transfer. The club described the winger as speedy and creative.

CAPS United came from behind twice to snatch a 2-2 against Ngezi Platinum Stars on Sunday and deny Benjani Mwaruwari his second Castle Lager Premier Soccer League home victory.
Arial Makopa put the hosts in front after 17 minutes before William Manondo scored his 12th goal of the season for Makepekepe three minutes later.
Former Triangle player Delic Mulimba had Baobab Stadium bouncing when he restored Ngezi Platinum’s lead in the 25th minute.
But Thulani Joseph struck 10 minutes from time to ensure that the Green Machine left Mhondoro with a share of the spoils.
Mwaruwari bemoaned the team’s failure to win at home but expressed satisfaction with the team’s battling qualities shown against CAPS United following the 3-0 chastening by Herentals College. He said:

CAPS United Fight Back To Deny Ngezi Platinum Stars Home Win

CAPS United ended a seven-match winless streak in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with a 2-1 victory over Harare City at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.
Makepekepe picked the win courtesy of William Manondo’s two strikes on either side of half-time.
The forward opened the scoring in the 17th minute before completing his brace from the spot in the 52nd minute.
Harare City got their consolation just after the hour through Zorodzai Semure.

CAPS United have reportedly identified Bulawayo Chiefs assistant coach Thulani Sibanda as a possible replacement to Lloyd Chitembwe who may be fired if results do not improve in the next few games.

The Herald reported a source as saying the CAPS United hierarchy held a meeting from which the future of Chitembwe was also discussed. Said the source:

The president of Simba Bhora, a Shamva-based club playing in Division One, has said he has no intention to take over Premier Soccer League side CAPS United.
Simba “Buju” Ndoro, a Makepekepe supporter, reportedly offered CAPS United players a winning bonus ahead of the Harare Derby last week.
However, CAPS United lost 0-3 to Dynamos, their sixth consecutive loss in the topflight.
Speculation has been growing that Ndoro could buy the CAPS United franchise from its two owners, Farai Jere and Nhamo Tutisani after the clubs’ fans turned against the duo. Responding to the speculation, Ndoro said:

I have also heard the news, but I have a Simba Bhora project which is very promising, and can’t imagine myself shifting focus at this juncture.
I am CAPS at heart, everyone around me knows the love I have for the club and I’m really saddened with how the team has been performing, just like any other supporter.

Simba Bhora Owner Dismisses CAPS United Speculation

Former CAPS United captain David “Maketo” Sengu has criticised the current players at his former club following their six-game losing streak that include a 3-0 loss to arch-rivals Dynamos in the Harare derby this past Sunday.
Posting on his Facebook page, Sengu, who is now a football pundit on the ZTN Prime TV channel, said the CAPS United players are a disgrace. He wrote:

Most of the Caps fans are blaming Farai Jere for the financial crisis currently bedevilling CAPS United.
There is a strong link between the players’ poor working conditions and poor performance.
However, I have looked at the situation from another angle. My understanding is that these days players now get more money from winning bonuses, than from basic salaries.
One player told me they are entitled to a winning bonus of around the equivalent of USD100.
Imagine if the team wins 6 games, players would expect USD600. This means that the more you win games the more money you earn.
So my question is what benefit do the Caps players get by losing 6 games consecutively?
When the boys threatened to boycott the Cranborne Bullets game, Farai Jere managed to get them the owing bonus for the two wins, but the team went on to lose the game.
As if that was not enough, they continued to lose 4 more games.
As it is Jere will not be looking for more money to pay them since no bonuses will be paid for 6 games.
Is it really about money or it is something else? Who are they fixing and for what reason?
To make matters worse, this poor run has made many fans stay away from Caps home matches, and this has impacted negatively on the money raised from gate takings.
In 2004 Caps could attract up to 15 000 fans at home simply because the trailblazing side was on fire.
Even without sponsorship, a team can afford to pay its players from such gate takings.
I think the current crop of players is a disgrace and don’t deserve to be at CAPS United.

"Disgraceful" CAPS United Players Don't Deserve To Be At The Club - Sengu

Dynamos coach Tonderai Ndiraya says today’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against CAPS United is the club’s biggest game of the season.
Dynamos are second on the log standings with 31 points, while CAPS United currently sits in 12th place with 17 points.
DeMbare are on their longest winless run of the current season and will be without teenage star Bill Antonio who is serving a three-match suspension. Said Ndiraya:

For us, I think this is the biggest game of the season. Back then, before COVID-19 hit, despite the form of the two teams, it has always been an exciting fixture on our football calendar.
So we have told them, particularly those new players, of the history associated with this fixture.
We have tried to explain the importance of the fixture and what it brings to the club.
So we hope that they will be up for it and we are preparing them enough to face the challenge. These are the sort of fixtures, which make or break a player.
So we are hoping that we can work hard during that match and get a good result.

The Glamour Boys have failed to win in their last three matches including the match against Highlanders which was abandoned due to crowd trouble.

Dynamos Versus CAPS United Biggest Game Of The Season, Says Ndiraya

Former “Cup Kings” CAPS United face cross-town rivals Dynamos this Sunday on the back of five consecutive defeats.
Makepekepe and DeMbare lock horns at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon with bragging rights and Premier League points at stake.
CAPS United have been facing financial challenges this season and players almost boycotted a game last month in protest over delayed salaries.
Head coach Lloyd Chitembwe said people tend to exaggerate some of the challenges bedevilling the Green Machine. Said Chitembwe:

We have gone through a hell of a phase. You can’t really blame anyone within the football club but we tend to exaggerate some of these things, but it’s normal.
When your mind is not there, it’s very difficult to apply yourself in football.
If you are not there spiritually, it will be difficult to make it. People don’t have to blame these boys.
In any case, you give the responsibility to the coach. As the coach, I know my responsibility is to do with performance and results.
Deep down I know why we are not winning, but going to this game the boys are buzzing and the guys are good to go.

Dynamos and CAPS United are meeting for the 79th time in the league, since Independence.
CAPS United has won three of the last seven derbies while Dynamos have won only two.
Makepekepe currently sits in 12th place with 17 points from 16 matches while Dynamos are second with the same number of points as FC Platinum (31).

We Have Gone Through A Hell Of A Phase - Chitembwe

CAPS United have appointed club legend Charlie “Kabhasikoro” Jones as their new chief executive officer (CEO).
Club president Farai Jere introduced Jones to the players, technical team and club officials at the training ground on Wednesday afternoon. Jere said:

We are here to introduce Charlie as our new chief executive officer, in line with our structure and in line with our plan which we had before COVID-19.
So we appointed a chief executive officer after a very rigorous exercise.
There were so many people who were interested in this position and obviously we settled for one.
We are very happy to say we managed to trace our roots and he is one of the yesteryear heroes that earned CAPS United the nickname of Cup Kings.
He is here with us today and will take over the reins in the running of the club starting from today.

Jones featured for Makepekepe and the now-defunct Arcadia United as a speedy right-winger, hence the nickname Kabhasikoro.
At CAPS United, Jones played alongside the likes of Stanford “Stix” Mutizwa and the late Joel “Jubilee” Shambo.

CAPS United Appoint Club Legend Charlie Jones CEO

Caps United defender Jimmy Dzingai has reportedly quit the club following a dressing room bust-up with one of the coaches at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane last week.
The Harare football giants lost 3-0 to FC Platinum, their third consecutive defeat.
As tensions built up, there was a harsh exchange of words between the player and the coach over the leakage in defence. 
Dzingai, who partnered Marshal Machazane at the heart of the defence is said to have been angered by being singled out for the poor performance and exited the players’ WhatsApp group without explanation.
Reports suggest he had officially announced that he was no longer interested in continuing to play for the club and was already looking elsewhere.
But coach Lloyd Chitembwe downplayed the issue after the team’s training session yesterday. He told NewsDay:

The issue is not about controversies. We want to talk about the positive things we have seen at training. He is not here because we excused him.
</blockquote>
The incident comes just after the club leadership sacked three players – goalkeeper Simba Chinani, defender Dennis Dauda and striker Clive Augusto – for allegedly leading a player strike which almost led to a cancellation of their match against Cranborne Bullets. They lost the match 2-0.
Meanwhile, Ronald Chitiyo who was among the players who were sacked before being pardoned, is sbeing linked with a move to Simba Bhora, a Division One club.
Despite management calling him to a meeting where he was told he still had a role to play at the club, Chitiyo has not been reporting for training amid reports that he has set his sights on the Northern Region Division One outfit.
The club hierarchy is also said to be making moves to persuade Dauda to return in the midst of a defensive crisis, especially after Dzingai walked out.
Dauda told NewsDay Sport this week that he had no hard feelings over the sacking and was waiting to consider offers from elsewhere.
With defender Valentine Musarurwa unavailable for the clash against Chicken Inn after accumulating three yellow cards, Chitembwe will be thin in defence.
The Caps United mentor, though believes the preparations have been much better this week in comparison to the past two weeks. He said the disappointing results in the past games were expected in the context of the turbulence the team went through.

Caps United Crisis Continues As Top Player Has Reportedly Quit

CAPS United have forgiven three players that they had sacked for influencing the squad to stage a demonstration on Sunday before a Castle Lager Premiership match against Cranborne Bullets.
Rodwell Chinyengetere, Devon Chafa and Ronald Chitiyo, who are all midfielders were pardoned by the club hierachy on Tuesday following their axing on Monday.
However, goalkeeper Simba Chinani, defender Dennis Dauda and striker Clive Augusto were held responsible for the debacle and were all released.
In a statement on Tuesday, CAPS United said that they conducted internal investigations and established that Chinyengetere, Chafa and Chitiyo were not responsible for fomenting the industrial action.
The trio had actually persuaded other players to play the match after they had threatened a boycott. CAPS United said:

So far only three players have been released after further investigations showed that some of the players that were fingered as ring leaders actually played a big part in trying to diffuse the flames.
We did internal investigations and got hold of a new piece of information which helped us to get a clear and full picture.
So we decided to pardon Rodwell (Chinyengetere), Devon (Chafa) and Ronald (Chitiyo); and part ways with the other players.

The CAPS United players caused the tie against Cranborne Bullets at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday to be delayed by 45 minutes after they had threatened to boycott the match over unpaid winning bonuses.
Makepekepe lost the match 0-2 and head coach Lloyd Chitembwe criticised the players for the “thuggish behaviour”.
