Former football powerhouses Dynamos and reigning champions FC Platinum failed to secure a win in their goalless encounter on Saturday. This match was part of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Match Day 14 round of fixtures, but it did not live up to its expected hype.
FC Platinum dominated the first half of the game, while Dynamos, the home team, attempted to make a comeback in the second half but failed to score. The match had a modest turnout, possibly due to a more popular match happening across town, where Bulawayo Chiefs and Caps United were competing at Luveve. The Premier Soccer League matches played over the weekend are listed below.

PSL Results: Dynamos, FC Platinum Draw, Highlanders Win

CAPS United’s financial challenges which resulted in a chaotic 2022 season for the club, have resurfaced.
<a href="https://www.soccer24.co.zw/2023/04/17/money-issues-resurface-at-caps-united/">Soccer24</a> reported that CAPS United players initially refused to train on Thursday due to outstanding winning bonuses.
The players had reportedly been paid winning bonuses for only one of their three wins so far — the 2-0 win over Manica Diamonds on Matchday 1.
CAPS United also beat ZPC Kariba (1-0) and Black Rhinos (2-0) but winning bonuses for those games have not been paid.
On Thursday, club president Farai Jere held a crisis meeting with the players ahead of the top-of-the-table clash with FC Platinum after they refused to train.
A CAPS United player who spoke to Socer24 on condition of anonymity said Jere promised the players that the outstanding winning bonuses would be paid before the FC Platinum game. Said the player:

When the president (Jere) came to training on Thursday, it was because of a crisis meeting after he had heard we were refusing to train.
He (Jere) then promised us that our outstanding winning bonuses for the ZPC and Rhinos games would be paid ahead of the Platinum game.
The outstanding winning bonuses were not paid and nobody said anything to us. We just played the FC Platinum game and we are waiting to hear from the club’s leadership.

On 1 May 2022, CAPS United players threatened to boycott the league match against Cranborne Bullets over unpaid salaries and outstanding winning bonuses.
The players did not meet at the hotel in preparation for the match and instead grouped at a different location and arrived at the National Sports Stadium well after the kick-off time.

CAPS United's Financial Struggles Resurface

Warriors midfielder <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kelvin_Madzongwe">Kelvin </a><a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kelvin_Madzongwe">Madzongwe</a> says he is honoured to be at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Caps_United_Football_Club">CAPS United</a>, and promises the Green Machine’s fans a better season compared to last year.  
Madzongwe joined the Harare giants this year, after he part ways with <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bulawayo_Chiefs_Football_Club">Bulawayo Chiefs</a>.
Speaking to the CAPS United media department ahead of the upcoming season, Madzongwe relished the prospect of playing for the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lloyd_Chitembwe">Lloyd ‘Lodza’ Chitembwe</a>-coached side. He said:

 I’m really excited about the opportunity because obviously CAPS United is a big brand. So definitely playing for them is like playing for one of the biggest teams around, considering the history that they have and the calibre of players that have gone through CAPS United. 
So it’s a huge honor to be here, my family was excited when I joined,  mostly my dad because he has always been a huge CAPS United fan so for him, I think it’s one of those dreams that he has realized for me.

CAPS’ season last year was marred by financial struggles which saw the club losing a lot of key players but Madzongwe assured the team’s fans that things will change in the green half of the capital.

Madzongwe 'Honoured' To Be At CAPS United, Promises Green Machine Fans A Better Season

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/CAPS_United">CAPS United</a> president <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Farai_Jere">Farai Jere</a> says US$40 000 is needed to run the Castle Lager Premiership football club every month and he is willing to dispose of the Green Machine for free to anyone with the capacity to sustain the Harare giants.
Makepekepe have deteriorated in the face of a damaging series of industrial action since 2019, with the club struggling to get results on the field of play.
With 17 games into the season, the Harare giants have managed only 17 points, one above the team occupying the last relegation slot.
And there have been mumbles of dissatisfaction over the manner in which Jere and his partner Nhamo Tutisani are running the club.
CAPS United fans have been unequivocally calling out the duo to sell the club amid reports several individuals and entities are interested in the team.
<a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/jere-ready-to-give-away-caps-united/">The Herald reports</a> that Jere yesterday said he had been approached but no one has bothered to come back to him once he explains they would need at least US$40 000 every month to be able to sustain the club. He said:
<blockquote>
That’s stupidity, people will just be talking to impress the public. They would be saying we have money but he (Jere) doesn’t want to sell (CAPS United).
But the moment they come to my office, I give them everything, the breakdown, you need US$40 000 per month to run CAPS United, they never come back.
We are not talking of someone who has just got some money, we are talking of consistency, for how many years would they be able to run this team, not someone who has got money now. Do you understand? (We are talking of) sustainability.
We look into the future, are you able to sustain this? I am very proud of having run CAPS United over the last 18 years, since 2004, this is 2022, the consistency, who has got it, they should come forward. We will give them the team, no problem, not a problem at all, not just talking, pub talk, that we have approached them and they refused the sponsorship, that’s pub-talk.
Understand the issue of pub-talk, people talking while drinking beer, showing off that I have the money, let them come and we sit on the table, I can even give them the team without paying the money, I am telling you this on record.
</blockquote>
Jere said he loves the Green Machine so much and he would only dispose of the club on condition that the potential suitors demonstrate their potential to run the team for at least a year.

Farai Jere Ready To Dispose Of CAPS United For Free

CAPS United’s 1996 championship-winning coach Steve “The Dude” Kwashi has died at the age of 67.
Close family members confirmed Kwashi died at his home in the early hours of Monday due to suspected Covid-19 complications.
Kwashi led the Green Machine to their first league title in the post-Independence era with his 1996 all-conquering squad.
The star-studded side also bagged a number of silverware including the Charity Shield, BP Cup and the Independence Trophy.
His son Fungai Tostao Kwashi, who also played under his father at Makepekepe, said funeral arrangements were still being worked on.
The veteran coach has been down for two decades with permanent physical disabilities he sustained when he was involved in a road accident from a Premiership match against Hwange in 2001.
He has had to rely upon his family for support all the years as he struggled with speech and other routine physical activities like walking.
Kwashi also previously worked with Black Aces.

Former Caps United striker Nyasha Mushekwi said he has no power to decide how CAPS United should use the bus he donated to the club since it’s no longer his.
He made the remarks during an interview with Star FM‘s Yvonne Mangunda on Instagram after the bus was pictured loaded with sacks of maize. Said Mushekwi:
<blockquote>Many people have asked about my thoughts regarding that picture, but I told them it’s not my bus.
They (CAPS United) can use it in whatever they want, even putting pigs underneath.
It’s up to them, not me and at the end of the day they know what’s best for their bus.
CAPS United has existed for many years, who am I to tell them how to run something because I donated it.
I believe if you give something to someone, it’s not your business to monitor how they are using it.</blockquote>
Mushekwi donated the luxury coach last year for his club to use as a team bus.
A picture of the bus loaded with maize sacks went viral last week, stirring controversy on social media.
The club said the maize was to be distributed to the players and staff to cushion themselves during this lockdown.

Mushekwi: Caps United Can Put Pigs Into The Bus If They Want To

Caps United winger Phineas Bamusi says club vice president Nhamo Tutisani is always picking on him for allegedly leading player revolts but is not afraid as he (Tutisani) has no power to expel him.
Bamusi was part of a group of players that besieged the offices of the club’s vice-president Nhamo Tutisani early last week demanding their salaries. He said:
<blockquote>We don’t see eye-to-eye (with Tutisani). He always perceives me as the ringleader for all the player strikes that have been happening at Caps. But the problem is that he doesn’t have the power to fire me. If he had the power, I wouldn’t have been at Caps right now.</blockquote>
Bamusi added that time to leave Makepekepe will always come and if he is sacked now, it will be a blessing in disguise.
Caps United players claimed that they haven’t been paid their salaries since March and this resulted in the confrontation with Tutisani.
Meanwhile, the Green Machine’s failure to win the championship in 2019 was blamed on a players’ strike that hit the club in the final stages of the season which saw them refusing to train in the run-up to the last two games.
Makepekepe performed a Devon Loch when they lost the two matches, allowing FC Platinum to win the third title in a row.

Bamusi Speaks On His Relationship With Club Vice President

Caps United F.C. players on Tuesday morning stormed club vice president Nhamo Tutisani’s offices in Harare demanding their salaries.
A heated exchange between a club official and the players ensued, with the latter going as far as requesting their contracts to be terminated so that they could join other clubs.
During the exchange, an unnamed player was summarily fired from the club for “talking too much”.

Caps United yesterday distributed foodstuffs, including 50kg bags of maize meal, to its players and officials to cushion them from the coronavirus-induced economic hardships and keep them motivated.
The distribution of goodies to the club’s staff comes at a time when the Green Machine has lost its principal sponsor, NetOne.
The mobile telecommunications company said it was doing away with sports sponsorship to fully focus on other sectors, including fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
Makepekepe vice-president, Nhamo Tutisani, recently told The Herald that they will always try to make sure their employees were kept motivated. He said:
<blockquote>… as a club, we will always try our best to keep our players and staff happy.
The lockdown is challenging, especially in terms of mindset, so we have to see to it that the staff get what they need in times like these.
Remember if the season was underway, they were supposed to be getting allowances, ranging from winning bonuses to travel.</blockquote>
The commencement of the 2020 Premier Soccer League season was postponed after the coronavirus outbreak and will likely not be back before August.

Highlanders and Caps United, two of the country’s biggest clubs, have welcomed foodstuffs donated by well-wishers to help players during the current coronavirus-induced lockdown.
Recently, Bosso received 60 bags of 10kg mealie meal and 150kg of rice from an Apostolic sect, Johane Masowe Chishanu while club members, fans and corporate partners also chipped in with an assortment of groceries.
Makepekepe were on Wednesday given groceries ranging from salt, sugar, mealie meal and cooking oil, among other things from socialite Wanisai Mutandwa through her Mahwindo Foundation.
Highlanders communications manager Ronald Moyo justified the development saying the club always gives and receives from the community. He said:
<blockquote>The club has a symbiotic relationship with the community. This relationship will always see the club receiving and giving back to the community.
For that reason, the club will continue attracting donations from its members, fans and corporate partners. There is nothing unusual about that.</blockquote>
CAPS United vice-president Nhamo Tutisani said people should learn to appreciate donations irrespective of the size as we are living in trying times. Said Tutisani:
<blockquote>It’s a welcome development actually. That’s why it’s a donation that we appreciate. Why should we question, in fact, be grateful?
It’s not about quantity or size, that gesture on its own is huge and people should learn to appreciate. These are not ordinary times.</blockquote>

Caps United midfielder Ronald “Rooney” Chitiyo says the coronavirus has changed everything and he is struggling to cope with life without football.
Chitiyo, who bounced back last season after a long spell out with a knee injury, however, said it is important to keep safe by following the rules to curb the spread of the virus. He said:
<blockquote>I must admit that it’s no longer the same, we are used to playing football and training.
This game is part of me, football is our life but we are only staying at home, no more running on the pitch.
But there is nothing we can do, it is a global situation and we have to obey the rules.
Yes, we have missed football but staying safe is more important, being healthy is more important at the moment.
We are doing everything to follow the rules, maintaining social distance.</blockquote>
Local football has been suspended indefinitely after the government imposed a lockdown to suppress the spread of coronavirus towards the end of March.

Former Caps United midfielder Dominic Mukandi said he was embittered by the manner in which he was let go by the club at the end of the 2019 Premier Soccer League season.
Mukandi revealed that he learned through a WhatsApp group message that the Green Machine were not renewing his contract. He said:

FC Platinum (FCP) coach <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lizwe_Sweswe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Lizwe Sweswe</a> is rumoured to be a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Caps_United_Football_Club" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Caps United</a> target for the head coach’s role.
Sweswe was an assistant to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Norman_Mapeza" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Norman Mapeza</a>, who dumped the club towards the end of last season and is now at South Africa side Chippa United.
Following Mapeza’s departure, Sweswe took over the reins and led the club to another Premier League title on the final day of the season having trailed Caps United for much of the campaign.

The player’s manager Gibson Mahachi confirmed that not only are DeMbare and Makepekepe interested in the 21-year-old sensation but also Swedish side Djurgardens. Said Mahachi:

Makepekepe co-director Nhamo Tutisani said the club is already in partnership with telecoms company NetOne and is looking at attracting more sponsors to its brand. Said Tutisani:
<blockquote>It is a transformation, a professional way of running the club as a business entity. We look at it from a beneficial return on a sponsorship basis.
We already have one of our strongest corporate partners, NetOne, whom we believe our relationship will grow even stronger.

Former <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Caps_United_Football_Club" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">CAPS United</a> and Dynamos midfielder <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tafadzwa_Rusike" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Tafadzwa Rusike</a> has expressed excitement after sealing a move from Zanaco Zambian Super League football rivals and champions ZESCO United on a two-year contract.
Rusike labelled ZESCO “a great football club” after the Ndola-based outfit won the title in the past three seasons. He said:

Tafadzwa Rusike 'Delighted' To Join ZESCO United

Caps United captain <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hardlife_Zvirekwi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Hardlife Zvirekwi</a> has apologised to the club’s supporters for the club’s failure to win the 2019 Castle Lager <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Premier_Soccer_League" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Premier Soccer League</a>.
In an interview with H-Metro, Zvirekwi implored fans to derive satisfaction from the fact that at least the club finished the season in third place. He said:
<blockquote>I’m deeply sorry to our fans for disappointing them. However, they should not lose hope because the third position is not that bad and it is not every time that a team comes out on top.
As players, we were also disappointed by the outcome so it’s also difficult to comfort our fans because us as players we are also hurt for not winning the championship.</blockquote>

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ngezi_Platinum_F.C." rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ngezi Platinum Stars</a> coach Rodwell Dhlakama believes that FCP’s experience in winning the title last season and playing in the CAF Champions League gives them a slight advantage over Makepekepe. He said:
<blockquote>Given the pedigree that FC Platinum has, I think they have a slight advantage. They have been there in the last two seasons winning the league and also playing in the Caf Champions League.
That experience and exposure in the African safari give them an edge. But football being football, I don’t really know what will happen, but I will give the advantage to FC Platinum.</blockquote>

Mushekwi, who is currently in South Africa where he is preparing for the upcoming Chinese football season, believes that buying the bus was perhaps a mistake. He said:
<blockquote>What I can say is that the news is very disappointing, especially after you have done everything to try and help sport in your country, and – for me – it’s like saying in Zimbabwe one can’t do something good and it gets celebrated because this is our country and we are the ones who can make a difference.
It makes you think twice, when such things happen, and you end up asking yourself if this was worth it, at all, or I could have taken whatever money I invested into the project and use it for my personal needs where I would not have to go through all these problems.</blockquote>
Mushekwi revealed during the handover ceremony of the bus to Caps United that he had tried to get a waiver on duty for the bus but was asked to pay.

ZPC Kariba scored first but was pegged back when <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Caps_United_Football_Club" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Caps United</a> super-sub Newman Sianchali rose from the bench to score twice in the second half.
Wins by Chicken Inn and FC Platinum on Wednesday had pushed the Green Machine down to third.
The win over Katuruturu ensured that Makepekepe is now on top with three games left before the curtain comes down on the 2019 season.
Caps United are now on 54 points while Chicken Inn and FC Platinum are both on 52 points although the former boasts of a superior goal difference.
