The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) faction led by Welshman Ncube has accused certain Members of Parliament of buying positions from Sengezo Tshabangu, the leader of a rival faction and contested interim secretary-general.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200036038/ccc-mps-paying-tshabangu-for-posts">NewsDay</a> on Sunday, CCC spokesperson Willas Madzimure claimed that some MPs were paying Tshabangu to either secure their places in Parliament or gain appointments to key positions. Said Madzimure:

There is money at play. Money is exchanging hands in a very serious manner. I am talking about large sums of money here.
It is not by merit that they are taking those positions. Some people are paying to assume those positions.
Kuti ahh ndoda kumbonzwa kuti chigaro ichi chinoita sei, then they pay money and are appointed.
You remove Mai Kore (Lynette Karenyi) as senior as she is — does that make sense? They are buying and selling positions.

This follows Tshabangu’s dismissal of Kore as the Leader of the House in the National Assembly, replacing her with Maureen Kademaunga, the Sunningdale legislator.
Edwin Mushoriwa, the former chief whip, was also removed in the reshuffle.
In the first six months after the 2023 general elections, Tshabangu recalled dozens of CCC MPs and councillors, asserting that they were no longer party members.

A group called CCC says some politicians are giving money to Sengezo Tshabangu for important positions in Parliament. CCC spokesperson says MPs are paying for positions they don't deserve. Tshabangu removed some leaders and put others in their place. He also removed many CCC members, saying they are no longer part of the party. This is causing a lot of drama within the political party.

CCC Faction Claims MPs Are Paying Tshabangu For Positions

CCC’s self-proclaimed interim secretary general <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Sengezo_Tshabangu">Sengezo Tshabangu</a> has claimed that he has been inundated by calls from the party’s MPs and Councillors who are swearing their allegiance to him and begging not to be recalled.
In October this year, Tshabangu recalled 14 MPs, 9 senators as well as more than a dozen councillors, and the move was upheld by High Court judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi on Saturday after the expelled members had challenged the expulsions.
In the latest video circulating on social media, Tshabangu said he assured the elected party legislators that he will spare them but warned that those elected “illegally” will be recalled. He said:

They (CCC MPs) are actually calling me every day, every hour, every minute that SG please don’t recall us we will take whatever you say and we are prepared to work with you.
So I didn’t sleep last night because members of parliament were reaching out and I promised them that look as long as you know that you were in that position elected by the people you were not there in that position illegally, you are safe.
But if you know that you paid up people for you to get into that position unfortunately my office is going to visit you.

Tshabangu also dismissed CCC leader Nelson Chamisa’s order to the party’s elected representatives to “disengage” saying it may create an unnecessary constitutional crisis. Said Tshabangu:

We can’t disengage, we can’t create a constitutional crisis unnecessarily. So if there are any problems we will discuss them with members of parliament. We will whip them into line, we will consult them, we are going to reshuffle.
In fact, we are going to reshuffle the setup in parliament, who is going to be the chief whip, we are going to have a fresh caucus, who is going to be the leader of the house, who is going to be the leader of that committee.
We are going to have a reshuffle because those people had positioned themselves there without consultation, broader consultation of the movement so things are going to change.

However, posting on X, CCC deputy spokesperson, Gift Siziba, who is also Pelandaba-Tshabalala MP, ridiculed Tshabangu’s claims, saying he was not deployed by the self-proclaimed interim secretary general. Said Siziba:

We can’t pretend to be confused for convenience. We were never deployed to parliament by Tshabangu. That is a fact known by him and those who associate with him.
Principles matter especially in this protracted struggle for democracy. Parliament to me is a zone of struggle and not a career.
As long as the Citizens have not recalled me l worry not because it’s them who voted for me under a CCC that was and is led by President Nelson Chamisa.

Recalled former MP for Cowdray Park, Pashor Sibanda said “We will not surrender the victory of our people to political vultures, hoaxers and imposters in whatever form or shape.”

CCC MPs "Begging" Tshabangu Not To Be Recalled

The opposition CCC has condemned what it considers the “persecution and illegal arrest” of its councillors and Members of Parliament since the 23 August Harmonised Elections.
This follows the arrest of Sunningdale MP Maureen Kademaunga, CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba, Harare Deputy Mayor Kudzai Kadzombe and CCC’s Chirumanzu South candidate Patrick Cheza.
CCC Spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi is in hiding after police said he was wanted for allegedly defaulting in court over a public violence charge from 2020.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/zimbabwe-headed-into-dark-cloud-of-uncertainty-says-ccc-after-arrest-of-three-leaders-barely-two-weeks-after-mnangagwas-inauguration/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>, Siziba, who is expected to appear in court this Friday for allegedly inciting violence at a football match on Sunday, said Zimbabwe is moving towards a period of uncertainty. He said:

The recent attacks, persecution and illegal arrest of our Councillors and MPs is a clear sign that the regime is petrified.
We just came out of an election, and our people are being punished for rejecting ZANU PF on the ballot.
No victor would punish his people, no father would beat up his kids after winning a lotto.
It is self-evident that our country is going back into a dark cloud of illegitimacy, stagnation and uncertainty.
The closure of democratic space and attack on dissenting voices will soon show its ugly face on the economy.
A disputed and discredited election cannot produce legitimate leadership.

Journalist and government critic Hopewell Chin’ono on Thursday said the arrest of CCC MPs is a brazen attempt by ZANU PF to whittle down the opposition’s numbers in Parliament and attain a two-thirds majority to enable the ruling party to push for constitutional amendments.
He said ZANU PF is planning to arrest “as many CCC MPs as possible” and then call for by-elections which it will rig to achieve a two-thirds majority necessary for constitutional amendments.
Chin’ono warned CCC MPs to avoid saying things that will get the government to craft “false charges” against them.
