The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with an armed robbery that took place at Pircy Farm, Goromonzi, on November 6, 2024. During the robbery, thieves made off with US$3,000 in cash and valuables estimated at US$10,000.
The suspect, identified as Sarezi Shonhiwa (57), was arrested on November 9 at Zin’anga Village in Seke by detectives from the CID Homicide division.
According to the ZRP, the robbery was captured on CCTV, and images of the suspects were shared on social media as part of a public appeal for information.
The robbers, armed with machetes and pistols, gained access to the farm by cutting through a backyard fence.
They entered the house through an open kitchen door, where they attacked the farm owners and stole cash, clothing, two speakers, three cellphones, laptops, jewellery, groceries, and three firearms.
In a statement released on November 10, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that Shonhiwa had admitted to his involvement in the robbery and had implicated his accomplices in the crime. Said Comm. Nyathi:

The suspect admitted to being one of the suspects and implicated Godfrey Mapanzure, Brian Chiyanwa, Tawanda Manokore and Mhofu (no further particulars known) as his accomplices.
Investigations by the detectives revealed that Godfrey Mapanzure and Tawanda Manokore were arrested on 09th November 2024 in connection with a case of armed robbery which occurred in Mutorashanga.
Sarezi Shonhiwa and his accomplices are also clearing another case of armed robbery which occurred on 26th October 2024 along Christon Bank Road, Christon Bank, where a Toyota Rav 4 vehicle, registration number AEE 6525, a Star pistol, five cellphones and USD 760. 00 cash were stolen.

Commissioner Nyathi commended members of the public for ongoing support and cooperation in the fight against crime.
He also appealed for further assistance, urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects to come forward.

ZRP Captures Goromonzi Farm Robbery Suspect After CCTV Images Shared

Two security guards are facing allegations of colluding with armed robbers to steal cash from the premises they were tasked with guarding.
According to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/guards-caught-on-cctv-sharing-loot-with-robbers/">H-Metro</a>, the guards were caught on CCTV receiving their share of the stolen money from their suspected accomplices.
The guards, Marshal Siyamboko and Tonderai Sixpence are employed by Raven Shield security company and were stationed at Turnal Holdings.
It is alleged that in the early hours of an unspecified date, a group of armed robbers arrived at the complex armed with pistols, machetes, and iron bars.
The robbers subdued the other security guards on duty, leaving them under the watch of one gang member outside the premises.
Siyamboko and Sixpence allegedly assisted their accomplices by showing them around the yard, pointing out offices and identifying their target room.
Using iron bars, the armed robbers broke into various office doors, ultimately accessing a safe from which they stole US$5,866.
The CCTV footage later revealed Siyamboko and Sixpence receiving a share of the loot and chatting with the robbers.
During police investigations, Siyamboko led them to recover US$40, which he had hidden under a plank in the Turnal Holdings car park. He also directed detectives to another US$40, concealed in a jacket in his bedroom.
In court, Sixpence claimed that he never received any money from the robbers and insisted that he was coerced into compliance with their demands.

Harare Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume said that the local authority will install cameras in the central business district to deal with those who violate traffic and other by-laws.
Speaking at the commissioning of two vehicles donated by City Parking at Rufaro Stadium early this week, Mafume said the Council had authorised City Parking to procure cameras to put at every corner of the city.
He said city fathers will work together with the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) to track motorists who do not pay road licences. He said (<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200025465/hre-to-install-cameras-at-intersections">via NewsDay</a>):

We have come to receive these cars today and we don’t want city municipal officers beating up people and we expect you to approach people with respect not coming out of the lorries which they move around with.
We will be talking to ZINARA so that our system is computerised so that those without ZINARA licences will be arrested by our municipal police.
We will also put cameras so that it will be easy to identify those breaking city by-laws.

Mafume also said that the Council gave management the mandate to acquire resources and put road markings in the city.
The Municipal police will be deployed at every intersection in the city to direct vehicles whenever traffic lights are not working to reduce congestion in the central business district, said Mafume.
He also warned municipal police officers who do not respect residents that they will be dismissed from work.

Harare City Council To Install Cameras At Intersections - Mayor

Three men who are accused of killing a Rusape man last week and were allegedly caught on camera dumping his body were granted bail last week by Mutare High Court Judge, Justice Issac Muzenda.
Clever Nyabote, Macdonald Ndamba, and Takawira Munanzvu were granted $150 000 bail each with reporting conditions.
The three allegedly murdered Marcus Runduke before dumping his body at Vengere Bus Terminus.
Prosecutor Malvern Musarurwa had opposed the granting of bail arguing that the three were facing a serious offence and were not proper candidates for bail.
In his bail application, the accused’s lawyer, Tendai Bvuma of Bvuma and Associates, said his clients mistook Runduke for a robber after he jumped onto their truck from the driver’s door. He said:

The now-deceased violently hit the window on the driver’s door while attempting to force it open.
Applicants assumed the now deceased was a robber, as he was also whistling, probably signaling other accomplices to come.
The driver swiftly sped off and after driving for about 70 meters, the now-deceased jumped off.
The applicants were relieved they were now out of danger and proceeded into the CBD. 
They had US$2 871 on them and thus did not want to risk entertaining suspicious people around the vehicle.
The following morning they went to Mabvazuva shops where they sold their potatoes up to around 12 noon when they heard some people gossip that they had killed a person and thrown him out of their moving vehicle.
They drove to Rusape Central Police Station to enquire about the matter and were arrested on their way.
Applicants will submit that had they been responsible for the now-deceased’s demise, they would not have spent the whole day selling potatoes in the same town.

Bvuma further submitted that the CCTV footage which is being used as evidence against his clients does not clearly show what happened and the metal bar found with them is used as a lever when attending to faulty tyres. He said:

It is respectfully submitted that the footage does not show the now-deceased being assaulted.
It does not show the applicants throwing the now deceased from their motor vehicle. 
The footage does not show whether the now-deceased fell on his own accord or that he was pushed or thrown out.
It is important to point out that the CCTV took the footage from the side of the lorry opposite the driver’s side where the now deceased fell from.
It is also important to point out that the footage only shows the truck passing and that as it passed, a person was left on the ground.
How the person came to be on the ground, the footage does show. The metal bar is used by applicants as a lever when removing a punctured tyre from the motor vehicle and every truck has one or more such bars. It was not used to murder a person as alleged.

Rusape "Body Dumping Caught On CCTV" Case In New Twist

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras mounted outside a wholesale in Rusape helped the police solve a murder case after capturing the suspected killers throwing a dead body from a moving truck onto the tarmac.
According to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/cctv-captures-killers-dumping-body/">The Manica Post</a>, the alleged murderers reportedly wanted it to appear as if their victim had been killed in a hit-and-run accident.
Marcus Runduke of Magamba suburb’s body was found dumped at Global Brothers Wholesalers opposite the main bus terminus.
CCTV footage was handed over to the police last week on Friday resulting in the arrest of two well-known Rusape potato traders — Clever Nyabote (28) of Makochere Village, Mutoko; and Takawira Munanzvu (27) of Hopley, Harare.
Nyabote and Munanzvu were arrested barely 12 hours after committing the alleged crime.
The two suspects this week appeared at the Rusape Magistrates’ Court facing murder charges as defined in Section 47 (1) (a) or (b) of the Criminal Law, (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.
They were not asked to plead when they appeared before Rufaro Mangwiro.
They were remanded in custody to 23 February for routine remand and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecuting, Nyaradzo Ndachengedzwa said that last week on Thursday, Nyabote and Munanzvu allegedly fatally assaulted Runduke using an iron bar and other unknown, but dangerous weapons. She said:

During the night of February 9, the accused persons who were travelling in a truck that was being driven by Nyabote picked up the now late Mr Runduke in Vengere and drove him towards the Central Business District.
Along the way, the accused persons fatally assaulted Mr Runduke using a metal bar and other unknown objects all over his body.
On reaching the Global Brothers Wholesalers (Madhadha), the accused persons threw the body from their moving truck onto the tarmac and drove off to an unknown destination.
Mr Runduke’s body was later found lying on the road with multiple head injuries, as well as a deep sharp cut on the groin and scrotum. The body was lying in a pool of blood.
The accused persons were captured by a CCTV installed outside Global Brothers Wholesalers as they dumped Mr Runduke’s body on the tarmac.

She said Nyabote and Munanzvu were arrested on 10 February as they were in the same red scania truck along the Mutare-Harare Highway.
Police recovered a bloodstained murder weapon from the truck.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is now reported to be using closed circuit television (CCTV) installed at traffic lights and other locations to go after errant motorists. The move which was implemented by acting Commissioner-General of the ZRP, Godwin Matanga has resulted in the arrest of at least 37 motorists for reckless driving and driving without due care and attention. The accused were taken to court where they were convicted and sentenced to between 30 days to 180 days in prison. Fines ranged from $100 – $300. In a statement, deputy police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said

These convictions follow the recent arrest of 37 rogue drivers in Harare for reckless driving and driving without due care and attention after they were caught on camera during the ongoing Operation Adhere to Traffic Rules and Regulations.</blockquote>
Under former police commissioner-general Augustine Chihuri the police force had become one of the most loathed organisations in the country and had a reputation of extorting motorists at numerous roadblocks mounted across the country.
