The United States Embassy in Harare has corrected the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Ndavaningi Nick Mangwana.
Writing on Twitter, Mangwana responded to the Zimbabwe Media Review which has bemoaned censorship of artists by the government.
Mangwana sought to correct the media freedom exponents by making a comparison with the United States of America. Wrote Mangwana:
<blockquote>Artists are quite free to express themselves through their art or theatre. But it’s not a lawless jungle. I don’t believe in the USA you can have a play that venerates Al Qaeda or such terrorists.
That is an example of a caveat to the freedom of expression.</blockquote>
However, The United States Embassy told Mangwana that in America, even offensive media is protected. The embassy wrote.
<blockquote>Sorry @nickmangwana, you picked the wrong example. The first amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects our freedom of speech and expression.
Even offensive speech is protected, except in the case of imminent violence.</blockquote>

"Sorry Nick, You Picked The Wrong Example", United States Responds To Govt Spin Doctor

South African socialite and dancer Zodwa Wabantu is returning to Bulawayo on Thursday for another appearance at Club Connect where she performed in August.
After her appearance in Bulawayo she will embark on a national tour that will see her appearing at Private Lounge in Harare on Friday. From there, she will travel to Mutare where she will appear at the new Club 263 on Saturday. Show organiser, Devine Assignments director, Biggie Chinoperekwei said Zodwa was expected to arrive in Bulawayo on Thursday. Said Chinoperekwei:
<blockquote>Initially, Zodwa was meant to go to Private Lounge in Harare in September and unfortunately, we had to cancel that event as it clashed with the Harare International Carnival which happened during the same week. We decided to postpone her visit as we didn’t want her to offend people at the carnival who may not understand her entertainment. When we host our events, we always ensure that they go to the right crowd. The carnival attracts a diverse crowd including children so she could not be part of it.</blockquote>
The Censorship Board of Zimbabwe has since cleared the SA entertainer to perform at the three clubs.

Zodwa Wabantu cleared to do Zim tour

The Censorship Board of Zimbabwe has cleared South African dancer and socialite Zodwa Wabantu to perform in Harare. Zodwa is scheduled to perform at the Private Lounge on Friday It however, remains unclear if she will perform at the Harare International Carnival after she was banned by then acting Tourism Minister Patrick Zhuwao.

Zodwa Wabantu cleared to perform by Censorship Board of Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) chief executive officer Karikoga Kaseke has said that he will be meeting with the Censorship Board on Monday to fully understand the extent of the board’s ban on South African dancer Zodwa Wabantu. Kaseke wants to know whether Zodwa was banned from taking part in the Harare Internationa Carnival only or banned from coming into the country. Kaseke said:
<blockquote>We are meeting them on Monday. We want to understand where they are coming from as a board. The meeting will help to iron out some of the vague issues around Zodwa’s visit. It is not clear whether the board banned her from visiting the country or to take part in the carnival</blockquote>
Zodwa Wabantu, on the other hand, remains defiant and has insisted that she is still coming to Zimbabwe because her contract with her promoter has not been cancelled. Zodwa was banned after from performing after the censorship board ruled against her for dancing without wearing any panties, arguing that it was against our culture.  Zodwa dismissed the complaint by Anne Nhira said:
<blockquote>My booking is not cancelled and all my travel arrangements remain the same.
That woman is talking rubbish; my invite has not been cancelled.
In Zimbabwe, it’s where I will be on September 7, I will not be stopped by her jealousy driven complaint. She is not the one who invited me in the first place.</blockquote>

Karikoga Kaseke to meet with censorship board as Zodwa Wabantu insists that she is still coming to Zimbabwe

The Censorship Board will today decide on whether or not South African dancer Zodwa Wabantu should be allowed to perform at the forthcoming Harare International Carnival without underwear.
The board will announce today if Zodwa Wabantu will  be given a licence or denied. The board will consider if her acts comply with the rules and regulations of this country. It remains to be seen if she will be let into the country to perform after acting tourism mimister Patrick Zhuwao banned her from performing at the carnival.
