Henry Khaaba Olonga, a former Zimbabwean cricketer, has denied the rumours surrounding the death of his former teammate, Heath Streak. Olonga took to Twitter to clarify that reports of Streak’s demise are false.
In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, the former all-rounder stated that he had been in contact with Streak, who is alive and currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Olonga further expressed that the rumours had been greatly exaggerated and likened the situation to a cricket match where the third umpire has called Streak back, emphasizing that he is very much alive. He posted:

Henry Olonga Dismisses Heath Streak's Death Rumours

Zimbabwe cricket team all-rounder Sikandar Raza says he is “devastated” and “shattered” following the Chevrons’ failure to qualify for the ICC Men’s World Cup.
In an emotional message posted on social media, Raza (37) said despite failing to qualify for the World Cup, he was proud of the progress the team has made. <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/devastated-hurt-broken-sikandar-raza-apologises-for-world-cup-heartbreak/">He wrote</a>:

The Chevrons were on course to qualify for the World Cup after winning all four of their matches in the group stages and their opening Super Six match against Oman.
Zimbabwe needed to win one of their two remaining World Cup Qualifier Super Six games against Sri Lanka and Scotland but lost both.
The Chevrons lost to Sri Lanka and Scotland by nine wickets and 31 runs, respectively.
Raza was one of Zimbabwe’s top performers during the ICC World Cup qualifier as he finished with 325 runs and scalped nine wickets in seven games during the qualifiers.
The 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by India From 5 October to 19 November 2023.

Sikandar Raza "Shattered" By Chevrons' Failure To Qualify For World Cup

Ireland beat by 46 runs in a One Day International (ODI) match played at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, to level the series 1-1.
Having won the first ODI in dramatic fashion at the same venue three days ago, Zimbabwe won the toss and stand-in captain <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sikandar_Raza">Sikandar Raza </a>elected to bow first.
The Chevrons didn’t start well, as scrappy bowling allowed the Irish openers Paul Stirling and Stephen Doheny to race to 47 without loss at the end of the powerplay.
Ireland posted a respectable 294/7 in their allotted 50 overs with Doheny top-scoring with a well-played 84 off 111 deliveries.
Needing 295 to win, Zimbabwe got off to the worst possible start as Tadiwa Marurami was trapped by Joshua Brian Little for a duck in the 3rd over. 
After 7 overs, Zimbabwe were 20-1.
Innocent Kaia and Chamu Chibhabha revived the Zimbabwe innings, before the latter was caught by Graham Hume off the bowling off Andy McBrine for 40 in the 30th over.
Kaia brought up his well-played 50 off 66 deliveries shortly after, before he was dismissed by Josh Litte.
Crowd favorite Raza was next at the crease and scored 21 before he was dismissed by Mark Adair and left the Chevrons at 140-4, needing 155 from the last 20 overs.
It got more complicated for Dave Houghton’s men when Gary Balance was caught by Little off the bowling of Hume for 52 as Zimbabwe crumbled and needed 53 in the last 21 balls.
They fell short and were bowled out for 248 in the 47th over as Ireland levelled the 3-match series 1-1.

Ireland Beat Zimbabwe To Level ODI Series

Chevrons Player, Cricketer, Timysen Hlahla Maruma was yesterday in court after a lady made a report to the police that he ra_ped her, H Metro reports.
According to the publication, the complaint said she was in the car with the accused who after being denied his advances locked his car doors and violated her.
It is the state’s case that:
<blockquote>She (the complaint) was in the company of Maruma and another acquaintance she only knows as Roy.

After the act, he unlocked the door and she went away.
The complainant is said to have contacted her friend who advised her to make a police report which she made on February 5 this year.</blockquote>
Marima, however, claims the act was consensual and produced evidence that they were in constant communication after the incident.

Zim Cricketer In Court For R_ape

Zimbabwe has been confirmed as the hosts of the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers which are scheduled to take place from June-July 2018. This was confirmed by Minister of Sports Makhosini Hlongwane today. This comes after ICC chairman Shashank Manohar visited the country on a five-day tour.
The qualifiers were due to be held in Bangladesh but need to be moved, since Bangladesh is likely to qualify automatically, as they are currently ranked 7th in the world. Zimbabwe, the UAE, and Scotland and Ireland (joint hosts) were all vying for hosting rights. One other factor, that was in Zimbabwe’s favour is the weather, as the qualifiers are scheduled for June-July, where conditions will be dry and pleasant.

Zimbabwe to host 2018 ICC World Cup Qualifiers

Zimbabwe lost its one off Test match against Sri Lanka by 4 wickets after the hosts pulled off the highest successful chase in Sri Lanka and the fifth-highest of all time. Zimbabwe had batted first and scored 356 and 377 in their innings. Sri Lanka responded with 346 and 391/6 after 114.5 overs in their second innings. This was only the third time in Tests that all four innings have been between 300 and 400. Umpire C Shamshuddin made a contentious decision which allowed Sri Lanka batsman Dickwella to survive a stumping. Rangana Herath was named Player of the Series and Asela Gunaratne was named the Player of the Match.
Zimbabwean captain Graeme Cremer said:
<blockquote>Disappointing but credit to Sri Lanka, to chase 380 on a day-five pitch is pretty special.
So credit to them, but credit to our guys as well. The way the guys fought and got the runs on the board and pushed Sri Lanka till he last day was great. We don’t play enough Test cricket, so it’shard sometimes making decisions out there, but there is a lot to learn from this Test match. The one-day series is a high point for us, we brought that confidence into the Test match and it gave us the belief that we could push the big teams.</blockquote>

Zimbabwe lose Test Match by 4 wickets

The Zimbabwe Chevrons defeated Sri Lanka by 3 wickets in the final one-day international (ODI) match which was played at the M Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota to claim a first ever series win against Sri Lanka 3-2. Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to field first. The Chevrons’ attack was inspired and restricted Sri Lanka to 203/8 in 50 overs. However, this seems to have been a let off as the Sri Lankans were at one stage on 34/3. The Sri Lankans looked to be in danger of failing to complete their overs having slipped to 127/7 in the 35th over. However, they battled back to post 203 for 8. Sikandar Raza was the pick of the Zimbabwean bowlers, claiming 3 for 21, but Graeme Cremer, Sean Williams and Malcolm Waller also made breakthroughs and were disciplined in their bowling, conceding just over three an over as a unit. However, the bowlers gave Sri Lanka 28 extras.
Zimbabwe started the chase off well with Hamilton Masakadza scoring 73 runs. Solomon Mire provided valuable support with 43 runs. However, Zimbabwe almost made a mess of it after losing the wickets of Craig Ervine(2), Sean Williams(2) in quick succession.  Malcolm Waller and  PJ Moor also went out cheaply.  However, Sikandar Raza(27) was able to steady the ship with the help of captain Graeme Cremer(11). The Chevrons managed to reach the target with 71 balls remaining, with a big six from Raza.
This was also Zimbabwe’s first away series win since 2009.  Sikandar Raza was named the Player of the Match for his contribution with both the ball and the ball.

Zimbabwe defeats Sri Lanka in final ODI to clinch historical series

The Zimbabwe Chevrons defeated Sri Lanka in the 4th one day international (ODI) match played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium today.  The win by the Chevrons levelled the series 2-2, leaving the series finely poised for the decider which will be played on Monday. Zimbabwe won the match by 4 wickets after its target was revised using the Duckworth-Lewis method, after a rain delay.
Sri Lanka batted first and looked set to post a huge total after their openers managed to score 208 with no loss of wickets by the 35th over. However, Sri Lanka ended up posting 300/6 in their allotted 50 overs. Zimbabwe’s target was later revised to 219 from 31 overs, which they managed to reach with 10 balls remaining. Craig Ervine top-scored for Zimbabwe with 69 and was named the man of the match.
Captain Graeme Cremer said:
<blockquote>We knew we were ahead of the rate, and that we were in the game during the rain. Our batting was excellent. The pressures of winning a series does not put pressure on us. We can put up scores as well as chase them. Our final ten overs were excellent. Our bowlers really pulled it back.</blockquote>

Zimbabwe beats Sri Lanka to level series

The Decison Review Sytem (DRS), which has been around for a while now, was used in Zimbabwe for the first time during the first day of their second Test against Sri Lanka at Harare Sports Club. Sri Lanka batted first and posted 290 for 5, with Dhananjaya Silva top scoring with 100 not out.  Of the 5 wickets that Zimbabwe claimed, 2 of them were courtesy of the DRS.  Part time bowler, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Hamilton_Masakadza" target="_blank">Hamilton Masakadza</a> got 2 wickets.

Decision Review System makes its debut in Zimbabwe

Captain <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Graeme_Cremer">Graeme Cremer </a>led from the front, scoring his maiden test century, in the process saving the <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/The_Zimbabwe_Chevrons" target="_blank">Chevrons</a> from the ignominy of a follow on, in the first innings of the first test match against Sri Lanka.  Earlier on, Zimbabwe had collapsed to 139/6, until Cremer rescued the innings, to lead Zimbabwe to a respectable 373 all out. The skipper was assisted by <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/PJ_Moor">PJ Moor</a> with  79 runs and <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Donald_Tiripano">Donald Tiripano</a> with 46 runs.
Commenting on his maiden century, after the innings Cremer said:
<blockquote>It has not sunk in yet. When play began, we wanted to get past the follow-on score that was the main thing for us. But then, after I got fifty-sixty, I thought there could be a chance here and it just was my day today. We were struggling a bit in the morning and just to get us back into the game that was a big thing for me.</blockquote>
 
The match continues, with Sri Lanka batting again, after posting 537 in the first innings.
