A Municipality of Chinhoyi pick-up truck’s rear windshield was shattered, and a security officer was injured during a violent clash with vendors in the central business district (CBD) at a popular vending spot known as Magaba on Tuesday afternoon.
The confrontation happened when council employees attempted to remove vendors from the streets. The move was part of the Municipality’s response to a recent directive from Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe, ordering local authorities to remove illegal vendors from undesignated vending areas.
Chinhoyi Municipality public relations officer Tichaona Mlauzi confirmed the clashes and identified the injured officer as Virginia Mlambo. Said Mlauzi:

There were some skirmishes, which occurred at Magaba complex. Our municipal police officers were busy enforcing bylaws that do not allow vendors to operate from undesignated areas, asking vendors to start operating from designated areas.
However, the vendors got rowdy after some instigation from one of them, and in the process they happened to be throwing stones which apparently shattered the rear screen of the municipal vehicle and also injured Constable Virginia Mlambo.

After the attack, the driver took the injured security officer to Chinhoyi Central Police Station, where she filed a formal report. Her condition was not known at the time of writing.
Police have opened a case for malicious damage to property and have arrested some suspects in connection with the violence.

In Chinhoyi, a businessman’s shop was engulfed in flames on Sunday evening, resulting in the loss of valuable merchandise, including household appliances and furniture.

Fire Destroys Chinhoyi Shop, Electrical Appliances, Furniture Reduced To Ashes

Two minors who went missing after being swept away by floods have been found dead along the Hunyani River in Chinhoyi. The girls, who lived in Zvimba District, disappeared on New Year’s Eve while trying to cross the flooded river on their way to town. The first body was recovered by the police’s subaqua unit on January 2, 2024, and the second body was found a day later.
In another tragic incident, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) reported that on December 30, 2023, an eight-year-old boy named Devine Musandipa drowned in a two-meter-deep pool near Sunrise Township in Sanyati, Kadoma. The incident occurred when the edge of the pool on which Devine was sitting collapsed. Devine’s father, Sifiso Bhebhe, also drowned while attempting to rescue his son.
The national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident, stating that Devine and his 12-year-old sister were collecting firewood when they came across the pool. The tragic incident occurred as they were near the pool, resulting in the loss of both the young boy and his father.

They urge the public to avoid crossing flooded rivers or streams, as they can be swift and dangerous. Two Minors Swept By Floods In Chinhoyi Found Dead

A medical doctor who worked at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital as a Government Medical Officer died this morning after being struck on the back by a wheel dislodged from a Scania haulage truck while walking along the road.
A police report seen by Pindula News identified the victim as 30-year-old Dr. Tinotenda Madzima. The report also said the Scania haulage truck was travelling towards Harare. Read the police report:

The incident occurred on the Harare-Mutare Road at the 51-kilometre mark.
Murder Cases:
In Guruve, the police have arrested a person named Bayisai Scotch (28) in connection with a murder case. The incident occurred on January 1, 2024, at Marirambada Farm, where Isaac Kusikwenyu (33) was fatally struck on the head with a log. Sadly, Kusikwenyu passed away on January 2, 2024. The cause of the altercation was related to a payment dispute. The suspect had refused to pay for gumboots that had been sold to him by the victim’s mother. The police are investigating the case further.
In another incident, the police in Bulawayo are seeking information from the public regarding a murder case. An unidentified woman was discovered dead in a bushy area at Denver Farm, Cowdray Park. The victim had swollen lips, cuts on the head and knees. She was wearing a red and white dress with a charcoal-grey hooded jacket. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and report it at the nearest police station. This information could be helpful in their ongoing investigation.

Wheel Dislodged From A Moving Truck Fatally Hits A Doctor Walking Along The Road

Three boys from Chinhoyi aged between 11 and 13, managed to escape from their abductors on the 27th day of December 2023 at around 0900 hours. The boys were taken while they were gathering grass for rabbit feed in a bush near the Rusununguko suburb.
According to a leaked police memo, an unknown assailant approached the boys, armed with a machete, and forced them to walk to a secluded area over 10 kilometres away. Read the memo in part:

On the 27th day of December 2023 at around 0900 hours and at Rusununguko bushy area, three male juveniles (names and addresses withheld) went to the bush in Rusununguko to fetch rabbit feed (grass). 
  
Whilst they were busy gathering the grass they were approached by one unknown adult male who was holding a machete and he ordered them to walk in a single file in front of him and they complied for fear of their lives. 
  
He crossed Hunyani River with the kids and walked with them for a distance of about 11km until they reached a place in the bush where there was a parked black unregistered Caravan kombi.

The memo states that two other men wearing black clothing and masks disembarked from the vehicle, tied up the boys’ hands and legs, and placed them inside sacks. The boys were then put in the kombi and driven for about two kilometres before being taken out, undressed, and forced to hand over their belongings.

Kangela Mine Collapses Killing 4 People

Dyke Makumbi, the former Chinhoyi mayor who rejected the council’s offer to buy him a Toyota Fortuner valued at US$$75 000 and instead used his own Volkswagen Bora sedan for council errands is facing persecution for accepting fuel compensation
Chinhoyi Municipality has decided to pay Dyke Makumbi around US$7,000 for using his own car while working for the council. This decision has caused some controversy. Makumbi was given 40 litres of fuel per week and was allowed to use his car from September 2018 to November 2020. He is expected to receive compensation for 4,600 litres of fuel. The Finance Committee has recommended that the council pay US$325 to cover the cost of 37 council meetings, which involved travelling a distance of 740 kilometres.
He insists his compensation was above board and selfless, and that his political enemies are behind the persecution. Makumbi, the incumbent CCC Chinhoyi Ward 12 councillor, told NewZimbabwe.com:

What has to be appreciated is that l actually stopped the purchase of a Toyota Fortuner for mayor, which had been approved at a cost of US$75 000 at that time and ordered that the money be used for service delivery to residents and ratepayers.
My conscience is clean to accept the compensation amid all the hullabaloo because l was not greedy but selfless in sacrificing my personal vehicle for use on council business. I bought my own fuel notwithstanding the depreciation of my car and what do l get in return, persecution. 
The crux of the matter is that council technocrats calculated the distances and came up with the quantum for compensation, which l wasn’t part of. The figures then went through a council committee and subsequently ordinary council. 
My political enemies are behind this persecution. It is a clear smear campaign because l have not made secret my ambition to reclaim the mayoral seat because l have unfinished business that l need to complete.

Makumbi pointed out that water augmentation was one of the incomplete projects during his time as mayor.
He will likely face competition for the Mayoral post from within the opposition party, as David Malunga, an aspiring Ward 8 Councillor, has confirmed that he is also aiming for the job currently held by Ward 5 Councillor Garikai Dendera.
Sources say the CCC plans to conduct internal interviews for mayors and chairpersons of smaller local authorities across the country before selecting suitable candidates. Makumbi served as mayor from 2018 to November 27, 2020, when he was recalled by MDC Alliance president, Douglas Mwonzora.

On Thursday 22 June 2023, very cold morning conditions are anticipated over the Highveld, with moderate ground frost in Matopos, Lupane, Nkayi, Gweru, Henderson, Rusape, Marondera, Nyanga, Mukandi, and Mount Darwin. All other areas will be cold at first, becoming warm by afternoon with clear skies and a cooling breeze towards evening.

Zimbabwe Evening Weather Report And Forecast For May 12-14, 2023

A magistrate in Chinhoyi on Tuesday acquitted Godfrey Makoko, an activist for the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC), who had been accused of threatening to kill MDC president Douglas Mwonzora.
This acquittal is a significant setback for Mwonzora, who had already suffered another legal defeat earlier in the week when the Constitutional Court rejected his challenge to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s (ZEC) delimitation report and his request to postpone the 2023 elections.
After a lengthy trial, Chinhoyi Magistrate Toendepi Zhou released Makoko (40), as the four witnesses called by the prosecution gave conflicting versions of events and their testimonies were deemed unreliable.
The court also noted that one of Mwonzora’s security aides, who worked at the Chinhoyi Court Complex where the alleged threats were made, testified that he never saw or heard Makoko issuing any threats of violence.
Makoko had argued, through his lawyer Kudzai Choga, that the charges against him were fabricated to settle political scores, and that Mwonzora had laid the charges to retaliate against CCC activists who had chanted political songs outside the courthouse on November 11, 2022, after Mwonzora’s application for a spoilation order against CCC was ruled defective. The magistrate ruled:

The State did not crucially interrogate fourth State witness who said he never saw accused person near complainant,” the magistrate ruled.
The State shot itself in the foot by calling the fourth witness (name supplied) who said he didn’t see any such incident of threats of attack on Mwonzora by accused person.
The State failed to prove itself beyond any reasons doubt and, therefore, this court will give benefit of doubt to accused person who is hereby acquitted and discharged.

The Chinhoyi Municipality has dismissed as fake news a report claiming that a vagrant drowned in one of the Council’s waterworks.
This comes after a message claiming Chinhoyi’s water shortage was being caused by a decomposing body inside the Council’s waterworks circulated on social media platforms.
The local authority’s spokesperson, Tichaona Mlauzi, described the message as an April Fools’ Day joke that was in bad taste. He said:

I think someone wanted to make an April Fools’ joke, but it was in bad taste.
We have not had any deaths at our waterworks plant.
If there had been a death at the plant, it would have been reported to the police.
We are law-abiding citizens and we report such issues to the police for them to take action.

Zimbabwe Weather 8 -10 April 2023: MSD Forecasts Clear Skies, Cool Weather On Sunday

A Chinhoyi family was also involved in an accident on Sunday while it was on its way to Harare for a church service at United Family International Church (UFIC).
It is alleged that the daughter who was driving a Honda Fit failed to negotiate a curve just after the Mapinga Great Dyke escarpment.
The accident claimed the life of the father on the spot leaving four other family members critical.
In another case, four Banket youths died in an accident that occurred on Sunday night near Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) fields, located a few kilometres from Chinhoyi. Three youths died on the scene while the other is said to have died at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital.
Mashonaland West police spokesperson, Inspector Margaret Chitove confirmed the accident before referring questions to the National Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Paul_Nyathi">Paul Nyathi.</a>
The four, all from Banket, were coming from a popular drinking spot in Chinhoyi. The vehicle was engulfed in a ball of flames after colliding with a haulage truck.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a hit-and-run road traffic accident case which occurred at the 33km peg along Gweru-Zvishavane Road on the 1st of April 2023 at around 2100 hours. It is alleged that a 37-year-old man was hit by an unknown motorist and died on the spot. Police are appealing to members of the public with information on the case to approach any nearest Police station.
Road traffic accidents may be caused by poor road infrastructure, human error, poorly maintained vehicles, overloaded vehicles, unsafe pedestrian behaviour, lack of road safety education, poor enforcement of traffic laws, poor visibility, wildlife on the roads, and inadequate emergency response.
Authorities say human error, such as speeding, reckless driving, drunk driving, and failure to observe traffic laws, is the leading cause of road accidents in Zimbabwe. Both motorists and pedestrians have the responsibility of making roads safer.

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Meteorological_Services_Department">Meteorological Services Department (MSD)</a> of Zimbabwe has forecasted windy weather conditions from Saturday onwards. In a weather update seen by Pindula News, MSD also reported that Tropical Storm Freddy influenced the weather conditions recorded in the eastern and southern parts of Zimbabwe. Reads the update: 
<h2>ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS FRIDAY 10 MARCH 2023 VALID UNTIL SUNDAY 12 MARCH 2023.</h2>
Severe Tropical Storm Freddy is still in the Mozambique Channel (more than 500 km east of Nyanga) heading towards the north coast of Mozambique (near Quelimane). Freddy’s outer-spiral cloud bands (stretching over more than a 750 km radius) resulted in cloudy, windy and mild conditions over the southern and eastern parts of the country (Matabeleland South, Masvingo, south-western parts of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, Manicaland and all Mashonaland Provinces), with light drizzle in Masvingo, Manicaland and southern parts of Mashonaland East. Other parts of the country had mostly sunny but also became windy towards evening.
<h2>FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, SATURDAY 11 MARCH 2023 </h2>
Windy conditions are expected over much of the country, strengthening towards evening. It should be mild in Masvingo, Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Provinces, with partly cloudy conditions at first becoming cloudy towards evening with light rain, especially over high ground. Mostly sunny and warm are anticipated in all other areas (Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands as well as Matabeleland North and South Provinces), though mild in the morning and windy towards evening.

Wind Gusts increase the probability of lost debris or roofs being blown-off. The wind factor makes the real-feel temperature much less than the actual. Light rains may affect outdoor activities.

• Secure rooftops and insure any loose objects that can be easily carried by the wind are secure. 
• Avoid being outdoors during episodes of strong winds as debris carried by the wind can cause harm and injury. 
• Ensure vulnerable persons are kept warm and safe, especially towards evening when winds are expected to strengthen. 
• Plan with the weather in mind as light rains and strong winds are anticipated especially over the eastern and southern parts of the country.

Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern areas of the Midlands, Masvingo, Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland east and eastern districts of Mashonaland Central should be mostly cloudy, windy and mild with intermittent light rain in places. All other areas, namely Matabeleland North, northern parts of the Midlands, Mashonaland West and western parts of Mashonaland Central, are expected to be partly cloudy and warm, with a generally light breeze, though slight gusts are probable, particularly overnight.

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Meteorological_Services_Department">Meteorological Services Department (MSD)</a> has reiterated that Tropical Cyclone Freddy is strengthening near the west coast of Madagascar. In a weather report and forecast seen by Pindula News, the department said there were isolated thunderstorms in some parts of the country this Monday. Reads the weather update:
<h2>ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS MONDAY 06 MARCH 2023 VALID UNTIL WEDNESDAY 08 MARCH 2023.</h2>
<h2>PREAMBLE</h2>
The outer fringes of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone, currently over the extreme northern parts of the country, resulted in isolated thunderstorms in Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland Central and Mashonaland East Provinces. Out of these, the highest was only 21mm at Mount Darwin followed by Chinhoyi at 14mm. The rest of the country was mostly sunny due to the influence of Tropical Storm Freddy (currently strengthening near the west coast of Madagascar, more than 1’000 km away), which continues to dry out much of the atmosphere. Meanwhile, moist winds from the southeast coast of Southern Africa have begun encroaching into the southern districts of Masvingo Province.
<h2>FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, TUESDAY 07 MARCH 2023</h2>
Cloudy, windy and mild morning conditions are anticipated over Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern parts of Midlands and Masvingo with patchy drizzle. Brief cloudy periods and isolated afternoon showers are expected in the extreme northern parts of Mashonaland Central and West Provinces. Warm by day and mild overnight All other areas should have mostly clear skies, mild at first becoming hot by noon.

MSD Update On Tropical Cyclone Freddy

A 27-year-old man from Chinhoyi was jailed using a friend’s credentials and other personal documents to obtain employment as a store assistant.
Blessed Believe Juruvenge of Ruvimbo Phase 1, Chinhoyi appeared before Magistrate Batanai Madzingira facing fraud, according to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/man-27-jailed-12-months-for-fraud-after-faking-cv-qualifications-to-get-job/">NewZimbabwe</a>. 
His actions were in violation of section 136 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act chapter 9:23.
Juruvenge was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment but five months were conditionally suspended.
The complainant was Blessed Hosiah Musasa, who is a forklift operator at the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) Chinhoyi.
According to the prosecutor, Clever Nyapfani, sometime in July 2022, Juruvenge went to Musasa’s home and requested his curriculum vitae (CV), educational transcripts, driver’s license, and recommendation letter.
Juruvenge claimed there was a vacancy for a driver which had arisen at the butchery where he was working and would help Musasa get the job.
It was further heard Musasa gave the accused person his CV, Ordinary and Advanced Level certificates, Class Two driver’s licence and referral letter from Cottco as well as an original national identity card.
On July 22 last year, Juruvenge went to Greater Grace Groceries, where he misrepresented to proprietor Tongai Mhizha that he was actually Musasa and tendered copies of qualifications and ID.
Juruvenge received a job offer as a general hand through false representation up until his arrest at the beginning of this month.
On January 13, 2023, the complainant got a tip-off from a churchmate of Juruvenge’s shenanigans.
The matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.
Police recovered Musassa’s documents that were used in the fraudulent job application.

Man Uses Friend's Qualifications And Particulars To Get A Job

A gold buyer held hostage a Chinhoyi couple for selling him fake gold worth US$24 000.
Donald Chiwenga (45) has since appeared before Dennis Manogid accused of holding hostage Eric Marangarire and Mercy Maphosa after establishing they had sold him 480 grams of fake gold, <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/chiwenga-duped-into-buying-fake-gold-for-us24000-takes-couple-hostage-in-revenge-and-force-them-to-handover-4-vehicles/">NewZimbabwe</a> reported.
The court heard that Chiwenga also forcibly took the couple’s four vehicles to make up for what they had done to him.
Chiwenga appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi and was remanded in custody until January 21 of 2023.
The  National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) alleges Chiwenga purchased 480 grams of fake gold worth US$24 000 from Marangarire and Maphosa.
The court heard that Chiwenga only realised it was fake when he was smelting it in Kwekwe.
Infuriated by this, Chiwenga planned a payback by holding the couple hostage and forcing the two to sign agreements of sale of their four vehicles to his name in the presence of a lawyer.
The cars include a Mercedes Benz, Honda Fit, Toyota Hilux and Toyota Corolla.
