Zimbabwe Arts and Culture Industry Association president, Boniface Chimedza told NewsDay that Chinhoyi 7 producers have paid white actors while the black actors are yet to be paid.
Chimedza said he was first approached by the affected actors in 2015. Said Chimedza:
<blockquote>Chinhoyi 7 was produced using a multi-racial cast, whites and blacks. The whites have all been paid and were paid handsomely. They were actually paid when they came for the shoot and they left. Most of the people complaining are black actors, so what does that say about the way we treat each other. We are not after victimising anyone, but we want this industry to grow, we will also not watch our artistes being victimised.</blockquote>
When contacted for comment, movie director Moses Matanda said the debt shall be paid when the production can afford. He said he is not responsible for paying actors and referred NewsDay to the producer. ZDF public relations officer, Overson Mugwisi said payment was only partly done to international actors and all actors will be fully paid from the movies’ profits.

Chinhoyi 7 Producers Pay White Actors, Black Actors Yet To Be Paid

The premiere of Chinhoyi 7 is set for today in Harare’s Ster Kinekor cinemas before it is released to other cinemas tomorrow. Ster Kinekor Bulawayo spokesperson, Maybe Simbisai said the movie will not be screened in their cinemas but they are working on having the movie shown at different locations in the city as a pop up.
Said Simbisai:
<blockquote>We’ll not be showing Chinhoyi 7 in the cinemas. We may have it under our pop up cinema meaning we’ll screen the movie at other venues like halls and parks.</blockquote>
Chinhoyi 7 writer and director Moses Matanda told The Chronicle that all was set for the Harare premiere.

Chinhoyi 7 Premieres Today

Chinhoyi 7, will be premiered in Bulawayo and Harare on 25 May. The Zimbabwean movie will be shown as from 6PM at Ster Kinekor. Entrance to the movie has been pegged at $10 for ordinary tickets and $20 for VIP.
The movie had to be shown exclusively to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Cabinet who approved it according to producer Moses Matanda. The movie features Albert Nyathi as Joshua Nkomo, Fungisayi Zvakavapano-Mashavave as Ian Smith’s maid and Brian Bera as Robert Mugabe. The movie is based on true events about seven liberation war fighters David Guzuzu, Arthur Maramba, Christopher Chatambudza, Simon Chingosha Nyandoro, Godfrey Manyerenyere, Godwin Dube and Chubby Savanhu who challenged the Ian Smith regime after a successful journey from Zambia in 1966.
