<p>A fourth-year student at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) was killed by a haulage truck on Friday while walking near the campus’s main entrance.</p>
<p>Talent Chari and her friend from the same institution were walking from the university along Harare-Chirundu Highway when a haulage truck veered off the road and hit her.</p>
<p>Neither the Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Margaret Chitove nor CUT’s acting director of communications and public relations Gifford Chikuya could immediately confirm the incident.</p>
<p>However, some witnesses claimed that the now-deceased student was smashed by the truck’s trailer and died instantly after she had saved her friend from being killed by the same truck.</p>
<p>Student Representative Council (SRC) secretary of external affairs, information and publicity Regis Muzambi confirmed the accident to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200001674/cut-student-knocked-down-by-haulage-truck"><span><strong>NewsDay</strong></span></a>. He said:</p>
<blockquote>
<p>She was hit by a haulage truck en route to Zambia near New Greens Building along the Harare-Chirundu highway.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>Her body was taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital mortuary for postmortem.</p>
<p>Muzambi said the other student was rushed to Chinhoyi hospital in critical condition.</p>

Fourth-year CUT Student Knocked Down By Haulage Truck

<p>A High Court judge has ruled in a favour of a Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) student, Panashe Mphathisi Ndlovu who was accused of hacking the learning institution’s examination database.</p>
<p>Ndlovu, who is studying towards a Bachelor’s degree in business management and entrepreneurship, has been out of school since August 2020.</p>
<p>The CUT student disciplinary committee found him guilty of misconduct and suspended him for four semesters.</p>
<p>Ndlovu was charged with contravening the Rules of Student Conduct and Discipline Ordinance 2 on the prohibition of cybercrimes, court papers showed.</p>
<p>The university alleged that in 2019, Ndlovu engaged an unknown hacker or manipulated the examination database himself and forged his results in two courses, which he had failed and converted into passes.</p>
<p>A disciplinary hearing found him guilty and suspended him from August 2020 to June 2022.</p>
<p>Ndlovu then approached the High Court, arguing that the decision to suspend him was grossly irregular because it was arrived at in the absence of a reasoned process.</p>
<p>In her judgement, High Court judge Justice Emilia Muchawa said there was no evidence to prove Ndlovu committed the alleged offence. She ruled:</p>
<blockquote>
<p>For the disciplinary committee, fully aware of its standard of proof, to have convicted after making it clear in its judgment, that there were loopholes in the university’s evidence, insufficient evidence in some respects, that certain aspects had been proven on a balance of probability was grossly unreasonable.</p>
<p>Most fatal was the admission that it was impractical to prove this kind of offence beyond a reasonable doubt.</p>
<p>The decision of the first and third respondents to convict Ndlovu be and is hereby set aside.</p>
<p>Their decision to reverse his passes in the CUMT 105 and CURMSC 223 be and is hereby set aside, their decision to suspend the applicant for four semesters be and is hereby set aside.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>Justice Muchawa also ordered costs against the university on a higher scale for causing Ndlovu to spend funds filing the court case.</p>

High Court Orders CUT To Reinstate Student Suspended For Hacking

<p>Seven students at Chinhoyi University of Technology have tested positive for coronavirus following tests conducted by the rapid response team in Makonde district.</p>
<p>ZBC News reports that of the seven students, five females and two male, four of are symptomatic.</p>
<p>The development was confirmed by Chinhoyi Director of Health Services, Dr William Mayabo, who added that the seven students will be taken to Mzari clinic for isolation.</p>
<p>This comes after 100 learners at Jones Tallach in Matebeleland North contracted the novel virus prompting the authorities to close the school.</p>
<p>Kwekwe Polytechnic and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo polytechnic also suspended lectures after some of their students tested positive for the virus.</p>
<p>The coronavirus curve in Zimbabwe has been flattening in recent months but is starting to rise again triggering fears of a second wave.</p>
<p>There has been complacency around the country with the majority of the citizenry flouting coronavirus regulations including the wearing of masks and maintenance of social distancing.</p>
<p>As a result of new cases that are being recorded, some government officials have hinted that the government might consider reimposing the lockdown to curb the spread and transmission of the virus.</p>
<p>Another lockdown will likely deteriorate further the economy that is already on a downward trend for the past 24 months.</p>

7 Students At Chinhoyi University Contract COVID-19

<p>The Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) has announced that its graduation to be held on October 2 will be virtual and that proceedings will be live-streamed on ZTV and on the CUT Facebook page.</p>
<p>In a statement, CUT said only selected graduands will be formally invited to attend the physical proceedings in line with measures put in place to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. The statement read:</p>
<blockquote><p>The rest of the graduands will graduate virtually in the comfort of their homes with their families.</p>
<p>Proceedings will be live-streamed on ZTV and CUT Facebook page. Graduands who are graduating virtually will follow proceedings in their gowns and respond to announcements as shall be beamed on the stated platforms.</p></blockquote>
<p>The Seventh-day Adventist-run Solusi University has also announced that its graduation ceremony will be held online.</p>
<p>This comes when many academic institutions the world over have been forced to postpone exams or resort to online graduations due to the threat posed by SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus which causes the respiratory disease called COVID-19.</p>

<p>Zimbabwe’s youngest legislator, Joana Mamombe was arrested Saturday morning apparently for being part of the groups that organised the January 2019 shutdown protests that turned violent. Mamombe is an MDC Alliance member and the party has bemoaned the harassment of its MPs as part of the violent crackdown and arrests that followed the violent protests.</p>
<p>Here are some facts about Joana Mamombe that many people may not be aware of:</p>
<h3>1. Joana Mamombe is a Molecular biologist.</h3>
<p>She trained in molecular biology at the universities of Bergen in Norway and Sussex in the UK where she studied for a Masters in molecular biology and genetic manipulation respectively. She also has a degree in biotechnology from Chinhoyi University of Technology.</p>
<h3>2. She was a ZINSAU Leader</h3>
<p>She was the Gender officer for the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_National_Students_Union" title="Zimbabwe National Students Union">Zimbabwe National Students Union</a> (ZINASU) from 16 November 2013 to December 2015.</p>
<h3>3. Tajamuka Co-Founder</h3>
<p>She’s one of the co-founders of Zimbabwe’s prominent political activist group, #Tajamuka.</p>
<h3>4. Learning from Jessie Majome</h3>
<p>Even though she was pitted against Jessie Majome in the 2018 MDC Alliance primaries, Mamombe has said there’s no hatchet to bury between them and she learnt a lot from Majome as a more senior member of the party.</p>
<h3>5. The challenges of being a Female politician in Zimbabwe</h3>
<p>Mamombe has said being a young female politician has some challenges. Political spaces, she said, are difficult to penetrate due to heavy domination by males. She also said it is sometimes difficult to fundraise as it exposes young female politicians to unwanted and unsolicited advances from would-be funders.</p>
<p>Such challenges include the accusation during the run-up to the 2018 elections, that she was MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa’s girlfriend. An accusation she denied.</p>

<p>Zanu-PF Mashonaland West province vice chairman Dexter Nduna told The Chronicle that President Mnangagwa will hold a rally at Chinhoyi University of Technology tomorrow. He said Mnangagwa will then commission the recently refurbished Kadoma General Hospital at a date to be announced during the course of the week.</p>
<p>Nduna said the provincial executive had met to put in place logistics to ensure people attend the rally. Said Nduna:</p>

Mnangagwa Holds Rally At Chinhoyi University of Technology

<p>President Emmerson Mnangagwa capped a <span>total of 1 218 graduates at his first graduation ceremony at Chinhoyi University of Technology. Of the 1 218, 7 graduated with PhDs, 163 masters and 1 048 undergraduates.</span></p>
<p>Mnangagwa was also i<span>nstalled as chancellor of the institution by CUT Vice Chancellor Professor David Simbi. In his acceptance speech, Mnanagagwa </span>challenged higher education institutions to become cradles of new design concepts, research and new technologies and systems with a positive impact on industry and commerce. <p>1 682 graduands who were conferred with various degrees at Chinhoyi University of Technology on Friday, 14 October 2016. President Robert Mugabe capped the graduands at the institution. 2016 had a 19% increase in the number of graduands, compared to 2015.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Chinhoyi_University_of_Technology">Chinhoyi University of Technology</a> who are Zimbabwe’s representative at the Enactus World Cup Championships, formerly known as SIFE, have reached the semi finals of the competition. Chinhoyi University of Technology became Zimbabwe’s representative after the University of Zimbabwe was disqualified after an audit uncovered inconsistencies in the results reported by the <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/University_of_Zimbabwe">University of Zimbabwe</a> ENACTUS team. The finals are currently being held in Toronto, Canada and Chinhpyi is among the 35 Enactus countries competing for honours at the competition.</p>
