Patricia Makoni, the widow of the late musician Dickson “Chinx” Chingaira, passed away after a battle with breast cancer at her home in Mabelreign on Sunday.
Lenin Chingaira, the family spokesperson and son of Chinx, confirmed her mother’s death to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/cde-chinxs-wifes-burial-set-for-thursday/">The Herald</a>, adding that she will be laid to rest in Harare on Thursday. Said Chingaira:

We lost our mother on Sunday due to breast cancer. She fought hard for years.
As a family, we have lost a pillar and life will never be the same without her. Her burial will take place on Thursday in Harare.
My mother was an ex-combatant. She taught us to be principled and respectful. We will miss her wisdom and the boldness she had when it came to instilling discipline at home. She was a real combatant.
She was also a musician in her own right as she sang alongside her late husband, my father.

Patricia Makoni, the wife of musician Chinx, died of cancer. Her son Lenin confirmed her death. She will be buried on Thursday in Harare. She was a brave and wise woman who was respected. She also sang like her husband. Mourners are at her house in Mabelreign.

The family of late musician Cde Chinx, real name Dick Chingaira, have reportedly refused to accept the <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/06/21/comrade-chinx-declared-national-hero-buried-heroes-acre/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">liberation war hero status </a>that was bestowed on the musician by President Mugabe. They are demanding national hero status instead and have asked the Zanu-PF to review the decision. It is reported that War Veterans Minister Tshinga Dube and permanent secretary Walter Tapfumaneyi had to leave Chingaira’s home without reading the contents of letter conferring the singer with provincial hero status after the family refused to accept the letter.
Zanu PF national director of administration, Dickson Dzora, confirmed the development saying:
<blockquote>It is true that the family has rejected the provincial hero status. They have appealed to the politburo and the matter is now going to be discussed in today’s (yesterday’s) meeting.</blockquote>

Cde Chinx’s family praised the late war veteran who they labelled as a loving father.
His son Lenin who is a member of the Urban Grooves group Slice said his father was more of a friend while his daughter Zealdine said he never treated them differently despite having two wives. His wife Patricia Makoni recounted how they met during the liberation struggle while his second wife Ntombizodwa said she will continue with music as a tribute to him.

Cde Chinx's family praises him

Musician <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Chinx_Chingaira">Comrade Chinx</a> is set to release a gospel album.  This comes after Chinx suffered from a mystery ailment.  The ailment alarmed Chinx so much that he turned to the Lord for deliverance.  The musician is yet to recover fully.  However he confirmed that once he is in better health he will start recording.
Speaking to Zimbuzz, Comrade Chinx said: .

Cde Chinx to record a Gospel Album after mystery ailment

Several musicians through a local business and arts group known as The Hub, have come together in raising money to assist revolutionary musician <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Chinx_Chingaira">Dickson “Cde Chinx” Chingaira</a>.
Speaking to The Herald, the group’s treasurer and Nash Paints chief executive officer, Tinashe Mutarisi, said The Hub felt compelled to play a part in respect of Chingaira’s contributions to Zimbabwe and the music industry. He also revealed that the proceeds will be used to buy groceries which will be handed to Cde Chinx this week.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail Leisure at his home last week, musician and war veteran, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Chinx_Chingaira">Chinx Chingaira</a> revealed that he has been suffering from an unknown ailment since 2013 and that at times he wishes he were dead.
He said that despite Government assistance regarding medical bills the doctors have not been able to pinpoint what it is that he is suffering from. He said that at first they suspected he was suffering from arthritis, then TB and even gout, but after a series of tests he emerged clean. Now they suspect it is cancer yet still the specialists he has been to are not sure. He however revealed that whatever disease he is suffering from makes him weak in the joints and equated the kind of pain he experiences to being mauled by lions all over the body but without dying.
He says he has been given strong painkillers that require food which he does not have. His wife, Patricia who lives in Chitungwiza said that he cries like a baby at times because of the pain. Chingaira has been to self-styled prophets, apostolic faith churches and other healers in a bid to get well.
