A study published in the journal <a class="class" href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36699165/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Acta Endocrinol</a> has revealed that drinking Coca-Cola and Pepsi can lead to bigger testicles and higher testosterone levels.
The research, done on mice, showed adult males who drank Coca-Cola or Pepsi had higher testosterone levels and bigger testicles than those who didn’t.
However, experts are not suggesting that men should rush out and drink lots of Coca-Cola or Pepsi.
In fact, previous studies have linked sugary sodas to a host of health problems including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and tooth decay.
The Northwest Minzu University in China was attempting to show that sugary sodas were bad for fertility and sex organs in men.
They cited previous research which showed that carbonated drinks had negative effects on female ovaries.
According to <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-11776783/Men-drink-Coca-Cola-Pepsi-larger-testicles-study-mice-suggests.html">MailOnline</a>, one group of 30 male mice was kept in a cage, and their water bottle was filled with 50 percent Pepsi mixed with tap water.
Another 30 mice were kept in a different cage and given pure Pepsi.
The same was done for two groups of mice but with Coca-Cola. A fifth group was used as a control and given pure water.
All mice could drink as much as they pleased for 15 days.
The mass of the mice’s testicles was measured on days zero, five, seven, 10, 13 and 15.
On the 15th day, the mass of the mice’s testicles was significantly higher in the groups that drank Coca-Cola and 100 percent Pepsi, compared to the 50 percent Pepsi and control groups. Said the study:

The outcomes demonstrated a high dose of Pepsi-Cola or Coca-Cola could promote testis growth and development.
</blockquote>
Testosterone levels were also recorded, and on days 10 and 15, the group which drank pure Pepsi had significantly higher concentrations of testosterone than the control group.
The mice who were allocated the pure Coca-Cola also had higher levels of the male hormone than the control group.
The results suggest that large doses of Pepsi and Coca-Cola could improve testosterone production in male mice.
However, the mice used in the study are non-copulating, meaning they do not mate.
The long-term effects of carbonated drinks on testicle mass and testosterone production are also unclear.

The Coca-Cola Foundation Funds Seven Solar-Powered Boreholes to help provide the Greater Bulawayo, Zimbabwe community Better Access to Safe Drinking Water.
Funded by a USD 50,000 grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation, DanChurch Aid has overseen the completion and handover of seven boreholes to the Bulawayo City Council management.
The solar-powered boreholes in Emakhandeni, Pumula, Nketa and Emganwini suburbs of Bulawayo will benefit over 25,000 people.
The project which was initiated in February 2021 is focused on addressing the problem of inadequate water and poor sanitation in low-income urban communities in Bulawayo that will also contribute towards mitigating the spread of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Bulawayo has perennial water shortages and outbreaks of diarrhoea and typhoid are common in the community as a result of people using contaminated and unclean water.
The Coca-Cola Foundation, the philanthropic arm of The Coca-Cola Company, granted US$50,000 to DanChurchAid Zimbabwe for the much-needed water and sanitation project to provide clean and safe water to the urban poor in selected high-density suburbs of Bulawayo.
The Bulawayo City Council identified and availed the locations in the areas with the most need.
“This project is built on the success of the Coca-Cola Foundation’s Replenish Africa Initiative (RAIN), which improved access to clean water for six million Africans in more than 4,000 communities across 41 countries”, said Coca-Cola Foundation President, Saadia Madsbjerg.
“Our strategy is to deploy Coca-Cola Foundation funds in a way that emphasizes more sustainable, efficient water usage, helps address local water challenges and partners with others to improve watershed health and enhance community water resilience. These projects uplift lives in these communities, in particular women and girls. Our giving strategy has a strong emphasis on understanding the local context and needs of communities, which then informs the choice of appropriate interventions”, added Madsbjerg.
DanChurchAid Country Director Mads Schack Lindegaard said, “this project has enabled us to take a step towards empowering communities to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, while delivering on the vital human need, of access to water.”
“The provision of the solarised boreholes will alleviate climate change-induced water shortages in low-income residential areas housing some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the city, which has been made possible through a generous grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation.”
The Mayor of Bulawayo, Councilor Solomon Mguni welcomed the project saying it will assist Bulawayo City Council to the extent that it is likely to lift the water-shedding programme earlier than scheduled owing to the improved supply throughout the year.

Coca-Cola Foundation Hands Over Seven Solar-powered Boreholes To Bulawayo

Cristiano Ronaldo’s snub of Coca-Cola during a press conference that was a prelude to Portugal’s Euros match against Hungary might attract sanctions on Portugal as it was a breach of contract.
During the press conference, Ronaldo moved two Coca-Cola bottles aside as he sat down to speak to the media, took a bottle of water and said “aqua,” a gesture suggesting he was recommending drinking water and not Coca-Cola.
A day later, France midfielder Paul Pogba, who is a Muslim, removed a Heineken beer bottle from in front of him after France’s 1-0 victory over Germany.

Italy midfielder Manuel Locatelli also moved Coca-Cola bottles aside and placed a bottle of water in front of him before speaking to the press after his Man of the Match display in a 3-0 win against Switzerland on Wednesday.
The tournament organisers Thursday reminded teams participating at the tournament that they had contractual agreements with sponsors including Coca-Cola and Heineken. Said Uefa:
<blockquote>_Uefa has reminded participating teams that partnerships are integral to the delivery of the tournament and to ensuring the development of football across Europe, including for youth and women._</blockquote>
Uefa’s Euro 2020 tournament director Martin Kallen said the main issue had been with Ronaldo’s action but there was an understanding of players who did such things for religious reasons. He added:
<blockquote>_If it is for religious reasons, they don’t need to have a bottle there._
_We are never fining a player directly from the Uefa side, we do this always through the participating national association and they can look if they go further._
_We have regulations signed by the participating federations. We have reminded them of their obligations but of course this (fining) is always a possibility._</blockquote>
The Uefa official did not, however, rule out sanctions if there are further cases.

Ronaldo's Coca-Cola Snub Might Attract Sanctions For Portugal

Coca-Cola has lost US$4bn in value since Cristiano Ronaldo’s snub of the beverage at a press conference before Portugal’s UEFA Euros match against Hungary on Tuesday night.
Ronaldo, a renowned health fanatic, removed two Coca-Cola bottles during a press conference and made it clear what he thinks of the carbonated soft drink.
The 36-year-old then held up a bottle of water before declaring in Portuguese: “Aqua!”, appearing to encourage people to choose that instead.
Coca-Cola’s share price dropped from $56.10 to $55.22 almost immediately after Ronaldo’s gesture, a 1.6% dip. The market value of Coca-Cola went from $242bn to $238bn – a drop of $4bn.

Coca-Cola, one of the official sponsors of Euro 2020, replied on Tuesday with a statement that said “everyone is entitled to their drink preferences” with different “tastes and needs”.
A Euros spokesperson said:

Ronaldo has a very huge fanbase on social media, boasting nearly 300 million Instagram followers.
On Tuesday, he scored twice in Portugal’s 3-0 win over Hungary – moving beyond France great Michel Platini as the record goalscorer at the European Championship finals with 11.
France midfielder, Paul Pogba, a devout Muslim, also removed a Heineken bottle from his site during a press conference. We are yet to hear if that act had an impact on the company.

Coca-Cola Loses US$4bn In Value Following Ronaldo's Snub

Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited has revealed plans to resume production of Mazoe Orange Crush after stopping production for three weeks due to shortage of essential ingredients.
The company revealed last week that Coca Cola had stopped supplying them with concentrates due to US$10 million legacy debt spanning over three years.
Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited commercial and public affairs director, Mrs Unaiswi Nyikadzino, told Chronicle Business that there has been inconsistency in the supply of raw materials a scenario which affected production. She said:
<blockquote>Mazoe Orange Crush production is dependent on full availability of raw materials, which has been inconsistent of late due to outstanding payments to various suppliers. Product availability is a function of various workstreams, which is not limited to concentrate availability but includes other raw materials, utilities (power and water) among others.</blockquote>
She added that the company was engaging stakeholders to ensure that operational matters are managed in an efficient and effective manner.
Nyikadzino projected that the production of one of Zimbabwe’s top exports found in a number of countries on the continent and Europe will start at the weekend.

Schweppes Zimbabwe Stopped Producing Mazoe Orange Crush Due To US$10M Coca Cola Debt

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Schweppes_Zimbabwe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited</a> has not been manufacturing <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mazoe_Orange_Crush" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mazoe Orange Crush</a> for the past three weeks.
The Coca-Cola Company cut off supplies of critical ingredients of the product after Schweppes failed to settle a debt estimated at US$10 million.
The development was on Wednesday confirmed by Schweppes managing director, Charles Msipa. He said:
<blockquote>Yes, there is an amount due and need to be paid so that the release of the concentrate can be done.
It’s a forex issue which is causing frustration. Part of the resolution is that we are working with local banks and the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Reserve_Bank_of_Zimbabwe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe</a> because that amount due, though it is less than US$10m, is legacy debt accrued over three years. So, this is part of the blocked funds.</blockquote>
The huge debt is understood to have emanated from failure to pay for concentrates for cordials supplied by Coca-Cola.
Delta company secretary, Alex Makamure said the delay in the purchase of ingredients for Mazoe Orange Crush was not only caused by legacy debts but was also administrative.

Schweppes Zimbabwe Stops Manufacturing Mazoe Orange Crush

In an article published in the Sunday Mail On December 30, 2018, Zimbabweans are characterised as “gluttonous consumers”. This comes after there has been an outcry, especially across various social media platforms about the shortage of soft drinks over the festive period.
There is a tendency to overlook the success stories because they are ‘boring’ and rather focus on mundane things. Excerpts from the opinion piece read as follows
<blockquote>So Zimbabweans fretted and vented about the shortage of Coca-Cola over the festive season. Curiously, even grown-ups who found the funny side of it had to take to social media to cynically explain why the sugary water had become scarce. The symbolism is obvious: essentially, there is an attempt to explain the shortages within the context of a deteriorating economy.
There also seems to be a proud affirmation that Zimbabwe’s success story must be defined not so much by how much she produces, but essentially by what she eats and how much she eats.
Apparently, for many, it seems crucial issues such as changing weather conditions and their impact on local agriculture is not something worth discussing.
Even the miracles being performed by our small-scale miners through huge deliveries to Fidelity Printers and Refiners is not the story for economists and analysts.

Zimbabweans Eat A Lot Yet Produce Little, That's Why We Are In This Economic Mess - Sunday Mail Editor

Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited and Coca-Cola Zimbabwe have released a statement saying that the ingredients being used in the manufacture of  Mazoe beverages are perfectly safe and pose no health risk. This comes after the company started using <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/06/12/we-are-fighting-obesity-coca-cola-explains-mazoes-new-taste/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">artificial sweeteners saying that it was fighting obesity</a>. However, a good number of Zimbabweans did not appreciate the new taste of the iconic beverages and made their feelings known on social media.
A joint statement from Schweppes Zimbabwe and Coca-Cola Zimbabwe said,
<blockquote>The sweeteners we use to do this are some of the most thoroughly researched ingredients in the world, with scientific studies consistently confirming their use and safety. They have been confirmed as safe by globally recognised authorities and local regulatory bodies…We take pride in what we do and listening to feedback and preferences for taste is a key element to this. As we move towards being a total beverage company and introduce more new drinks and recipes, we commit to communicating the changes we are making.</blockquote>

Artificial Sweeteners Used To Make Mazoe Beverages Are Perfectly Safe: Schweppes Responds To Backlash

The Coca-Cola Company has explained that it is now using artificial sweeteners to reduce the amount of sugar in its Mazoe beverages. The company went on to say that this was being done in an effort to fight obesity. This follows an uproar on social media from Zimbabweans who are complaining about the new taste. In a statement, the Coca-Cola company said,
<blockquote>The Coca-Cola Company has taken a global decision to do more when it comes to the issue of obesity. Around the world, eating and drinking less sugar is an increasingly important issue for many people. Sugar in both foods and beverages can be part of a balanced lifestyle if people don’t have too much. We support the current recommendation by several leading health authorities, including the World Health Organization (WHO), that people should limit their intake of added sugar to no more than 10 percent of their total energy/calorie consumption. We’ve begun a journey toward this goal, including reducing the sugar in our Mazoe Syrups and MAZOE ORANGE CRUSH.
…We only use low and no-calorie sweeteners that have been thoroughly tested in scientific studies and are considered safe, including for children and adults, by globally recognized authorities, including the FAO/WHO Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA); and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)…Experts say diet soft drinks are safe for pregnant women. We recommend that anyone with questions about diet during pregnancy contact their doctor or midwife.</blockquote>

We Are Fighting Obesity: Coca-Cola Explains Mazoe's New Taste

Beverage manufacturer Coca-Cola Zimbabwe has partnered Unplugged Music Concert in order to promote local artists. Unplugged was represented by co-founders Chiedza Danha and Elinah Mutandwa. The concert will now run monthly until December.
Speaking to NewsDay, a Coca-Cola representative said:

Delta Corporation says it is now in discussions following last week’s announcement by the Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) on the acquisition of Anheuser-Busch InBev’s interest in bottling operations in specified markets but no immediate changes to its associate operations are anticipated.
In October, TCCC issued a notice of intent to terminate the Bottlers’ Agreements with Delta Corp subsidiary Delta Sparkling Beverages and associate Schweppes Holdings following the combination of AB InBev and SABMiller Plc.
Following the notice, the two companies last week announced that they had reached an agreement in principle for TCCC to acquire AB InBev’s interest in bottling operations in specified markets including Zimbabwe, for subsequent re-franchising to its preferred partners. In a statement,company secretary Alex Makamure said:
<blockquote>No changes to the operations of the company and its associates are anticipated at this time and the company will continue to operate in the usual manner.</blockquote>

TechZim reports that <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Econet_Wireless_Zimbabwe">Econet Wireless Zimbabwe</a> could benefit from Coca Cola’s termination of Delta Beverage’s bottling agreement. The publication notes that <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Mutare_Bottling_Company" target="_blank">Mutare Bottling Company</a>, the other bottler of Coca-Cola products in Zimbabwe is owned by Econet Wireless Zimbabwe.
The mobile operator has a 69% stake in the company which it snapped up in 2007 as part of its diversification strategy.
The announcement by Coca Cola could be an opportunity for Econet if it can secure distribution rights, expand capacity and in the process boost revenues from its ancillary investment.
As the local telecoms industry faces challenges that have resulted in a regular decline in revenue the one non-core asset that Econet once considered disposing five years ago could be the hedge that’s needed by the operator.

Econet could benefit from Coca Cola's termination of Delta's bottling agreement

The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) has given notice of its intention to terminate the bottler’s agreements with Delta Beverages and its associate Schweppes Holdings Africa Limited. This follows the combination of Anheuser-Busch InBev NV/SA (AB InBev) and SABMiller Plc. Delta and its associate Schweppes produce and sell TCCC brands under bottler’s agreements with TCCC.
AB InBev is a key Pepsi Beverages bottler in Latin America while SABMiller dominated Coke’s bottling in Africa. Not only are Coca-Cola and PepsiCo global rivals, but international reports often speculate that Coke is one of the eventual takeover targets of the ever-acquisitive AB InBev.
In a statement Delta said,
<blockquote>This Noti­fied Intention has been given on account of AB InBev becoming an indirect shareholder in Delta Corporation Limited following the combination of AB InBev and SABMiller Plc. No changes to the operations of the company and its associates are anticipated at this time, hence the company will continue to operate in the usual manner in the meantime.</blockquote>
