Police have confirmed the arrest of Eleph Khumbula Gula-Ndebele (39), the son of the former Attorney General Sobusa Gula-Ndebele, and five others for unlawful possession of Cocaine.
Sobusa Gula-Ndebele was Zimbabwe’s Attorney General for a short stint from 2006 and 2008.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Gula-Ndebele, who is also a lawyer, was implicated by a victim of drug abuse, one Tsitsi Vundla, who was arrested in March this year. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Eleph Khumbula Gula-Ndebele (39) for unlawful possession of Cocaine.
The suspect was implicated in dealing in dangerous drugs by a victim of drug abuse, Tsitsi Vundla who was arrested in March 2024. The other suspects arrested in the gang include Talent Mapanga, Takunda Godoka, Tanaka Chimuka, Tapiwa Mutebuka and Sam Chasaya.
On 24th May 2024, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, Harare arrested Khumbula Gula-Ndebele (39) after receiving information that the suspect was at a house along Knightsbridge Road, Highlands, Harare.
The arrest led to the recovery of a sachet containing Cocaine which was stashed in the front door panel of the suspect’s vehicle, a VW Polo, registration number ABF 8319.

Assistant Commissioner Nyathi reiterated that the Police will not relent in the fight against drug and substance abuse in the country. He added:

Gula-Ndebele Arrested For Unlawful Possession Of Cocaine

A 38-year-old suspected drug dealer was recently arrested after a high-speed chase with police detectives in Harare, reported <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/drug-dealer-busted-in-dramatic-high-speed-chase-with-cops/">ZimLive</a>.
The suspect, Taurai Musindo, appeared before Magistrate Munashe Chibanda on Monday charged with resisting a peace officer and unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.
He was remanded in custody and is expected back in court on 21 June for bail application.
Allegations are that detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics had received a report that Musindo was selling drugs near Harare’s Avenues area.
The detectives then contacted Musindo and lured him into the CBD while pretending to be potential buyers of the illicit drugs.
When police tried to arrest him, Musindo escaped, resulting in a high-speed chase with police. Said prosecutor Zororai Nkomo:

The detectives approached the accused and identified themselves as police officers and that they intended to talk to him.
On sensing the danger, the accused quickly set his vehicle in motion and sped off at high speed along Third Street resulting in a speed chase with the police officers in hot pursuit.
The accused drove into George Silundika Avenue and was involved in an accident with two other vehicles near Ralton Sports Club and was immediately apprehended at the accident scene.

When police apprehended him, they conducted a body search and found four sachets of cocaine in his trousers.
Police also found six sachets that he had hidden in the dashboard.
The recovered cocaine was weighed at CID Drugs and Narcotics and recorded 8 grams, which is estimated to be ZW$1 922 079.

Drug Dealer Crashes Vehicle In High-speed Chase With Cops

A Zimbabwean woman was Wednesday arrested after she was found in possession of a kilogram of cocaine by customs officers at the Indira Gandhi International airport, India.
The woman has not been named but is due to appear before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (Economic Offences) for judicial custody according to Asian News Agencies (ANI).
Reports say the Zimbabwean national arrived at the airport from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Delhi Airport customs seized 1 015 grams of cocaine which was concealed in the soles of her sandals. 
In December last year, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/12/10/two-zimbabwean-nationals-arrested-in-india-for-possession-of-drugs-worth-over-us30-million/">two Zimbabwean nationals were arrested</a> at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, India for possession of a large consignment of drugs. 
In a related recent development, a 40-year-old Zimbabwean woman only identified as Rossie, who is a cancer patient, was arrested at Mumbai airport while trying to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine into India.
Rossie belongs to a family with a poor financial background.
The drug cartel, which was using her as a mule, promised to take care of her medical expenses in lieu of smuggling drugs into the country according to Customs officials at Mumbai airport at the time of her arrest.
The news comes barely a few days after a Harare magistrate had <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/07/20/brazilian-drug-dealer-zimbabwean-couple-arrested-and-jailed/">jailed a Brazilian drug dealer</a> Karoline Silver Mafra (23) for seven years after she was convicted of unlawfully dealing with dangerous drugs.
Mafra was jointly charged with two locals, Patience Murinda (32) and her husband Slegfriend Zibusiso Ndlovu (33) who were also slapped with a seven-year jail term.

Zimbabwean Woman Arrested In India Over Possession Of Cocaine

A Zimbabwean woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for the importation and trafficking of controlled drugs in Seychelles.
Seychelles’ Supreme Court on Thursday sentenced Elsie Esther Vambe (45) to five years in prison for the importation of a controlled drug and another five years for trafficking a controlled drug.
According to the Anti-Narcotics Bureau (ANB), the sentences will run concurrently, which means Vambe will be imprisoned for five years.
Vambe pleaded guilty to both offences. She was given two five-year prison terms instead of the six years each, which apply to such offences after the judge considered certain facts.
The presiding Judge, Mohan Burhan, noted that Vambe is a first offender and pleaded guilty to all charges and this was considered by the court before she was sentenced.
The court heard that Vambe was arrested on October 26 after the ANB found 1.51kg of heroin and 503.70g of cocaine that she had hidden in the toilets on an Air Seychelles flight from Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Zimbabwean is the first foreign national to be sentenced on controlled drug charges in Seychelles this year.
The Indian Ocean island nation has a zero-tolerance drug policy and has recently put in place several measures to combat the trafficking of illicit drugs on its shores.

Zimbabwean Woman Sentenced To 5 Years In Prison In Seychelles For Drug Trafficking

Former model and Zim Fashion Week founder Priscilla Chigariro has been acquitted of the charges of illegal possession of dangerous drugs.
Chigariro, who was being co-charged together with her sister Ndaka, was acquitted on Thursday after a full trial by Harare regional magistrate Loice Mukunyadzi.
Magistrate Mukunyadzi ruled that the state failed to establish beyond a reasonable doubt that the two were dealing in cocaine as alleged.
She said the person who tipped off the police could have done it out of malice because only 0,6kgs of cocaine were found in the wardrobe full of clothes.
The magistrate opined that the manner the report was made shows that whoever tipped the police had scores to settle. She said:
<blockquote>In their defence, the two said they said they were shocked and weren’t aware of its existence. There was no knowledge of possession and in such cases, the State then has to prove knowledge of possession.
The accused persons said they were not even aware that it was in their wardrobe.
The possibility that it could have been planted cannot be ruled out more so, the state didn’t lead evidence to rule out the possibility of it being planted.
It’s a 50-50 situation and the state should prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt, the doubt that’s there should benefit the accused persons and having assessed the evidence placed before this court.
There’s no convincing evidence to link the two to the charge of dealing in cocaine which was found in their wardrobes, they benefit from the doubt that exists and they are found not guilty and discharged.</blockquote>
In her defence, Chigariro denied ever dealing in, abusing let alone the possession of drugs. She said she thought her estranged husband Allen Aleskey Gessen, with whom they have had a plethora of litigation in both magistrates civil and criminal courts, some of which are still pending, may have paid her maid to “plant” the cocaine in her wardrobe.
She also claimed that in October last year, her estranged husband had orchestrated a plan to frame her for possession of drugs while she was in Russia and the ploy failed because she was tipped by a former driver.

Former Model 'Found With 0,6kg Cocaine' Acquitted

Magistrate Morgan Nemadire has been arrested and charged with criminal abuse of office after he convicted but fined a Venezuelan national $700 after the latter was found in possession of 5kg of cocaine worth US$500 000.
Nick Mangwana, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services confirmed Nemadire’s arrest. Mangwana said in a tweet:
<blockquote>In October 2020, Magistrate, Morgan Nemadire imposed a ZWL$700 fine on a Venezuelan national, Delcy Daymar Rodriguez Guererro, who was convicted of possessing more than 5kg of cocaine worth US$500,000. He has now been arrested and charged with abuse of public office (Corruption).</blockquote>
Mangwana’s tweet stirred interest among Twimbos with some condemning Nemadire’s arrest while others praised authorities for fighting corruption.
One of the people, who reacted to the tweet identified as Makoromokwa Zimba, said:
<blockquote>In Zimbabwe, a judge has dismissed Nguwaya who was facing USD 60 million fraud scotfree. Draxgate the judge is still at work;
Former Health Minister (Obadiah Moyo) has been charged with the looting of more than USD20 million and he’s still outside remand while those who hold placards demonstrating are jailed without trial. Sour grapes. Shame.</blockquote>
Responding to the same tweet, Tawanda Machaka, said:
<blockquote>I think it’s wrong to arrest a judicial officer for handing down judgments or sentences we are not happy with.
The law always provides recourse against such. Judicial officers must exercise their functions without fear of arrests in case some don’t agree with them.
For instance, we have a magistrate who almost had all his judgments denying bail 2 certain figures have overturned at the High Court.
If it’s a case of incompetence then the JSC (Judicial Service Commission) must step in &amp; discipline its employees. Arresting them should only be on concrete evidence of corruption.</blockquote>
The lenient sentence imposed on the Venezuelan national by Nemadire contrasts sharply with that meted on a Mbare woman, Veronica Matongo, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison after she was arrested last year and found in possession of 2,3 kilograms of cocaine worth $184 464.
A Peruvian, who was also arrested and found with one kilogram of cocaine last December, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Harare Magistrate Arrested Over 'Lenient' Sentence For Cocaine Dealer

A 28 year old Chinese national who was arrested for possessing cocaine told the court in his defence that the dangerous drug belonged to an assistant inspector of the police. Yu Yazhou, who is the owner of Rui-Tai Investment, a gold extracting company pleaded not guilty to possessing cocaine.
Yu said two police officers named Evidence Hanya and Washington Rimayi were the owners of the cocaine and had planted the cocaine to frame him,
<blockquote>They wanted to plant the cocaine into my car for reasons best known to them.</blockquote>
The court heard that Detective Assistant Inspector Hanya conducted body search and recovered two plastic sachets containing a white powder wrapped in a piece of bond paper. The sachets were in Yu’s front denim trousers’ pocket. He was arrested. The white substance was sent for analysis at ZRP Forensic Science Laboratory and it tested positive for cocaine. The cocaine weighed 0,94 grams and has a street value of $75.
